Celtic and AC Milan take their places in last 16

Celtic and AC Milan took their places in the last 16 of the Champions League despite vastly contrasting fortunes on Tuesday.

Celtic celebrated one of the best nights in their long history of European competition by beating English rivals Manchester United 1 0 in Glasgow to ensure first or second place in Group F and a berth in the knockout stage for the first time, van cleef rose gold fake bracelet.

Shunsuke Nakamura scored the only goal of the game with a free kick eight minutes from time, while Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc joined him on the hero's rostrum by saving Louis Saha's weakly taken 90th minute penalty.

Manchester United would have advanced with a win or draw at Celtic, but they now have to avoid defeat at home to Benfica in their last match on Dec. 6 to ensure they do.

Celtic top the group with nine points, followed by United (9), Benfica (7) and FC Copenhagen (4). Benfica beat Copenhagen 3 1 in the other game in the group.

While Celtic were rejoicing, AC Milan lost 1 0 at AEK Athens, who have now won their last two matches after establishing an unenviable record of 21 games without a victory in the competition.

Julio Cesar scored the only goal from a free kick after 32 minutes but despite the defeat Milan cannot finish out of the top two places in Group H.

Milan have 10 points followed by AEK (7), Lille (6) and Anderlecht (3).

CSKA Moscow and Lille could also have clinched their places in the last 16 but results went against them and prevented them from doing so.

In Group G, CSKA lost 2 0 at home to Porto who won with goals from Ricardo Quaresma and Lucho Gonzalez.

That setback, together with Arsenal's 3 1 comeback win over Hamburg SV in the same group, meant CSKA slipped from first to third in the standings behind Arsenal and Porto.

Arsenal have 10 points, Porto are also on 10, CSKA have eight and Hamburg none.

Arsenal made hard work of beating the bottom team in the group though, with the Germans taking the lead when Rafael van der Vaart scored with a superb shot after four minutes.

It took Arsenal until the 52nd minute to equalise through Robin van Persie before Emmanuel Eboue and Julio Baptista added two more for the Gunners in the last seven minutes, van cleef arpels alhambra fake bracelet.

However, Arsenal will be without Thierry Henry for the match in Porto after he picked up his third booking of the competition and now faces a one match ban.

Lille could have advanced with Milan from Group H but after being held to a 2 2 draw at home by Anderlecht they now face an uphill task in their last match at Milan.

In Group E,sweet knock off alhambra bracelet, Steaua Bucharest's 1 1 draw with Dynamo Kiev means the Romanian side qualify for a UEFA Cup place while Dynamo are eliminated from Europe.

Real Madrid's 2 2 home draw with Olympique Lyon in the same group ensures the French champions finish top although both teams knew they had already qualified after the last round.

Lyon have 13 points, bracelet alhambra fake van cleef, Real 10, Steaua four and Dynamo one.

Real became the first team to breach the Lyon defence in the competition this season but could have inflicted a first defeat if Ruud van Nistelrooy, who got Real's second in the 83rd, had not had his 89th minute penalty saved by Gregory Coupet.

are expensive cables a waste of money

You always get a free cable in the box: a phono interconnect with a CD player, an HDMI lead with a Blu ray device. But should you use it?

Speak to a shop salesman, audiophile or home cinema geek and they tell you that they not worth bothering with; they a weak link preventing the best picture or sound quality. If you want true quality, you need to spend hundreds or thousands of pounds on high end cables.

Others will tell you that spending just a few pounds on a well constructed lead will suffice. That as long as it isn shoddily made, the signal will whizz through with little or no degradation, thanks to the laws of physics.

We have spoken to cable manufacturers, engineers and psychologists, and conducted our own listening test, to get to the bottom of this controversial issue.

There are really two types of cable that we talk about here: digital and analogue. Inside a speaker cable, for example, is an analogue signal which literally drives the speaker. But inside an HDMI cable there resides a stream of digital image and audio data which the television interprets and displays in a systematic way.

Some information from the audio source is lost in the cable

Kevin Kelly, managing director of Atlas Cables, tells me that the problem to solve in analogue cables is attenuation; your sound source sends a signal to the amplifier which loses intensity on the way. Similarly, the amplifier sends a signal to the speakers which loses clarity before it arrives.

The very best cables and Atlas make some which cost up to 3,500 for a two metre length are designed to lose as little as possible.

can add anything, he tells me.

Kelly likens what his team of engineers do to the work of cycling coach David Brailsford, who helped Bradley Wiggins to victory in the Tour de France with his philosophy of gains Brailsford shook up the sport by using advanced science, medicine and engineering to eek out hundreds of tiny, miniscule improvements that, van cleef fake bracelet, when added together, van cleef and arpels fake clover bracelet, made the difference between being on the podium and not. the game we in, said Kelly.

For instance, the company believes that tiny inclusions and imperfections in the copper used by many manufacturers weakens the signal. So it uses a specially sourced type of copper that is cast in a continuous wire to achieve purity of 99.99999 per cent. This carries a signal better, it claims, but does not react well to being heated or bent, so it cannot solder connectors and has to crimp them at greater cost. For the same reason, it can coat the wire directly with hot,van cleef knock off alhambra bracelet, molten insulation, so has to wrap it with a tape like Teflon first. This all adds cost. But does it add sound quality? Or, at least, remove less?

come in and say just a wire well it not quite. There a lot of engineering in the process that trying to make a better and more efficient product. But the proof of the pudding comes down to the customer coming in, putting it in their system and justifying whether the value there or not.

could bamboozle a customer with lots of physics about the cables, but what we tend to do is give them a demonstration. The customers are trying to get closer to the music.

There is genuine value in R and materials going into these high end cables, Atlas claims. It makes the same profit margin, in percentage terms, on every cable it makes from 45 to thousands of pounds.

Not everyone agrees that you need to spend four figures, though, even among cable makers themselves.

Andrew Rothwell, founder of Rothwell Audio, claims that his reasonably affordable 69 interconnect cables are costly compared to the cheapest options for good reason, and more than good enough for most applications: cables are put together by hand, we don have millions of pounds worth of machinery to assemble things, and we don use far eastern labour.

done by hand in the UK and the price that you see on the website is the retail price. Once you taken VAT off that, and the shop profit margin, we not selling them to the shops for a vast amount of money. We don make a vast amount of money on each set. Its not as if we profiteering.

Rothwell is pragmatic about the effect its cables can have, and reflects this in its jargon free advertising: don make any rash claims on the website. I don claim that they or or Some people do, and to be honest I do take issue with some of their claims. I just say that they neutral and good quality.

have heard different cables sound subtly different. Possibly just due to small differences in capacitance, I don know. But it not simply a matter of one cable costs twice as much so it twice as good. Anyone can ask a lot of money for a cable, and some people will automatically assume it very good. I a little bit of a cynic.

you got an MP3 player or an iPad on a docking station with tiny little plastic speakers, you not going to hear any difference. But at the other end of the spectrum, van cleef fake gold bracelet, where you got speakers costing tens of thousands, you will hear something differences, not necessarily improvements.

He said that the average person seeking better sound quality would have more luck experimenting with the position of their speakers than buying expensive cables. The difference doing this makes can be and costs nothing but the inconvenience of having them in the optimum spot acoustically, rather than practically. Cables are often seen as a shortcut to better sound that requires less effort.

cable looks cheap. Because the market goes up to more than 3,000, people look at our cables and think can be very good, so let not bother with those If there was nothing over 100 on the market we probably sell more cables.

Obviously cable manufacturers are biased, so we turned to an impartial source for clarity. Patrick Gaydecki is a professor of digital signal processing at the University of Manchester School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Firstly, he told me that claims of higher quality made regarding digital cables like HDMI and USB cables are all nonsense The only real problem that could occur is a reflection of the signal bouncing back from the end of the cable, creating a spurious signal. Such problems are avoided by ensuring what is termed "impedance matching" and this has no bearing on cost all modern cables do this equally effectively.

cheap cable costing you 5 will perform no better or no worse than a cable costing orders of magnitude more, he said.

The Equator HDMI cable from Atlas Cables costs 75 for a metre

This is backed up by extensive and highly rigorous tests, such as this one from Expert Reviews, which have shown that HDMI cables varying from 5 to 150 produce literally identical results down to the exact shade of each and every last pixel.

So, it can be said with a high degree of confidence that you should spend enough on an HDMI cable to ensure that the connectors are robust and well made, but no more. Even if very occasional errors should creep in, modern televisions have built in circuitry that can spot an anomalous pixel caused by a stray bit and blend it in. You would never notice.

Turning to analogue, Gaydecki said once again that extremely expensive cables were a waste of time and money with one caveat.

BMC announces Tour team for super motivated Porte

The 31 year old will be representative of the nine man squad and receive equal support to American Tejay van Garderen in his career first bid for the maillot jaune, replica rolex datejust oyster perpetual.

Australian national time trial champion Rohan Dennis is among the seven riders, also including Brent Bookwalter, replica oyster rolex perpetual datejust, Marcus Burghardt, Damiano Caruso, replica datejust rolex, Amal Moinard, Michael Schr and Greg Van Avermaet, to support the pair's dual general classification bid from July 2.

"Richie and Tejay will both receive equal support from the staff and riders within the team structure during the race itself. Throughout the race, Richie will act as BMC Racing team's road captain and as such will represent the riders' interests both on and off the bike," general manager Jim Ochowicz said.

Porte displayed fine form at the Criterium du Dauphine earlier this month and held his own in the mountain stages alongside defending Tour champion and former teammate Chris Froome (Sky).

The Tasmanian transferred from Sky to BMC this season with the opportunity to chase his own success at the Tour an impetus.

Porte has a handy arsenal at his disposal with BMC, which aided Cadel Evans to become the first and currently only Australian to win the Tour de France in 2011. Bookwalter, Burghardt, Moinard and Schr all assisted Evans to victory that year.

"To know that Tejay and I will be supported by such a strong group of guys is really motivating," Porte said. "I've already raced with these seven riders a lot this season and I'm confident that we are going into the Tour de France in a really good position.

"My form is good, my legs are good and after another week of fine tuning, I'm definitely ready to race. It's an exciting time."

Van Garderen, who led BMC at the Tour last season, has observed a different lead up to the race than that of Porte.

The 27 year old will enter on the back of the severely weather affected Tour de Suisse in which he won a stage and finished sixth overall.

"I'm taking confidence out of the Tour de Suisse heading into the Tour de France, especially with the team that we are taking. I've already raced the Tour de France a couple of times with most of these guys, so I couldn't be happier to line up with them once again, replica rolex oyster datejust perpetual," van Garderen said.

Brooklyn Officials Urge MTA to Speed Up Reopening of Pennsylvania Ave

Elected officials in Brooklyn held a demonstration Monday demanding the MTA reopen the Pennsylvania Avenue stop on the 3 line in Brownsville, which has been closed since being damaged in an accident last year. NY1's Michael Herzenberg filed the following report.

The three train bypasses Pennsylvania and Livonia Avenues, van cleef alhambra fake bracelet.

The MTA initially said there was no structural damage and the repairs would take four weeks. But the agency later said the repairs would be more extensive than first thought, bracelet replica alhambra van cleef, setting a new reopening date of February 27. But with cosmetic damage still showing that's not happening.

"We are saying to the MTA you're dragging your feet you're inconveniencing our community and we want a response from you we want this station opened," said City Councilmember Inez Barron.

Barron complains that residents have been without subway service at Pennsylvania for the better part of a year because the station only reopened in September after six months of renovations. State Assemblyman Charles Barron, a political firebrand and Inez Barron's husband, van cleef and arpels fake bracelet alhambra, sees the delays as racism.

"We're saying to the MTA just like you prioritized the Second Avenue subway in the white community you made sure that there was a lot of hoopla around that the governor came everybody came and you opened the Second Avenue subway put billions of dollars into that. Well treat the black community the same way,van cleef & arpels fake alhambra bracelet," Barron said.

A change cannot come soon enough for local residents. They have spent the winter taking free shuttle busses to an open subway stop on Van Siclen Avenue almost a mile away but they say the busses are not very dependable.

"For us it's terrible especially when we have the terrible snow oh it was terrible. I had to walk from here to van Siclen Avenue because I didn't see no buses and I didn't want to be late to my job," said one straphanger.

The MTA responded saying it "always puts the safety of our passengers first regardless of location and the Assemblyman's rant is false and beyond the pale."

Asbury Park was center of Bruce Springsteen universe with release of 'The Rising' 10 years ago

DEBRA L. He is joined by E Street Band members, from left, Roy Bittan, Clarence Clemons, Patti Scialfa, Steve Van Zandt, Garry Tallent and Danny Federici on the porch on the south side of Convention Hall.

Ten years ago this week, Asbury Park was the center of the Bruce Springsteen universe with the release of "The Rising."

For a 10 day period during that summer of 2002, Bruce was all over Asbury Park with private rehearsals, three public rehearsal shows, two guest appearances at a small Cookman Avenue restaurant, driving NBC's Matt Lauer around town for a tour and a live appearance on "Today" from Convention Hall marking the release of the album, his response to 9/11.

The hoopla began with a private rehearsal by Bruce and the E Street Band at Convention Hall on Tues., July 23. They were preparing to head out on tour for the first time since the Reunion Tour in 1999 2000.

ABC's "Nightline" had several cameras filming the rehearsal for an upcoming story. They did interviews with every member of the E Street Band. as Bruce was going to be there. I wasn't quite sure why, but when I arrived, there weren't that many people there.

It was there that I heard Bruce was expected to show up with Matt Lauer and a crew filming them from "Today." Word had gotten out that Bruce would be stopping by, and soon Georgie's was pretty packed.

DEBRA L. ROTHENBERG

Bruce started the afternoon doing an interview with Lauer while walking on the Asbury Park boardwalk and they then headed into the Stone Pony for a sit down interview.

The two then hopped in a navy blue Mustang GT, with Bruce driving for a ride around Asbury Park as a camera crew followed.

"I think they're expecting me," Bruce says to Lauer as they pull up to Georgie's. Bruce, wearing jeans and a light blue denim shirt, cartier love bangle bracelet replica, has a bottled water behind the bar and signs a few autographs before heading out five minutes later.

When the footage later airs on "Today" Lauer later tells Katie Couric, "I could have been naked and no one would have noticed me."

They then stopped at Studebaker's Antiques and Collectibles on Main Street, a store on Cookman Avenue and Moonstruck Restaurant on Lake Avenue

The final stop was at Sonny's Southern Cuisine at 574 Cookman Ave. (now closed).

Bruce performs "My City of Ruins" with the Alliance Singers in Asbury Park on July 24,bangle cartier, 2002:

The next afternoon, Thurs., July 25, there was an industry only private rehearsal at Convention Hall. Only 40 "insiders" got to hear Bruce and the E Street Band play a dozen songs, nine of them from the new album. I listened from the boardwalk with about a dozen other fans. It was very cool to hear the new material.

The afternoon of Fri., July 26, saw the first of three public rehearsal show at Convention Hall. Many in the crowd are radio station contest winners from California. Bruce and the E Street Band run through 23 songs and "The Rising" opens and closes the show as it's being filmed for a video. "Into the Fire" is played with Clarence Clemons starting the song on the bagpipes. It works pretty well here but is soon abandoned.

Bruce was surprised at how a lot of fans at the show knew the new songs already as the album wasn't due out for a few more days. Little did he know that copies leaked out to fans about three weeks earlier.

After the show, Bruce and members of the E Street Band come out on the south deck of Convention Hall and pose for pictures and chat with the crowd. Clarence Clemons leads the fans on the beach, to the amusement of Bruce, used cartier love bracelet for sale, in several chants of "You can only expect greatness of the E Street Band!"

DEBRA L.

Later, Bruce and his wife, Patti Scialfa, are back at Sonny's for a mini private show and autograph session for the radio contest winners. Taking request, Bruce plays five songs: "Back in Your Arms," "Tougher Than the Rest" (with Patti),cartier bracelet for sale, "I Wish I Were Blind," "Growin' Up" and "Thunder Road" (with Patti).

After a quiet weekend, things heat up again on Mon., July 29. Bruce and the band go through a private afternoon rehearsal at Convention Hall as positions are set up for TV cameras and lighting for the next day's live broadcast of "Today."

Tues., July 30 is the main event. It beings at the stroke of midnight at the very hot Stone Pony. A packed crowd of Springsteen fans from all over the world are on hand as Jack's Music in Red Bank brings its midnight sale of "The Rising" to Asbury Park. The evening began with nonstop Bruce music and a trivia contest.
