Rough treatment of diabetic driver raises questions about N

Andre Malok/The Star LedgerDaniel Fried, 46, of Springfield, Pa., ended up in a struggle with New Jersey State Police after he pulled himself over in his van in November 2010 on Route 72 in Burlington County because he had gone into diabetic shock.

One November night two years ago, State Police found Daniel Fried slumped behind the wheel of his van along Route 72 in Burlington County. He stared forward, eyelids drooping. He was incoherent, slurred his words and seemed to be falling asleep.

He may have looked drunk or like he was on drugs, but doctors say these are classic symptoms of diabetic shock. Paramedics found Fried blood sugar was so low he could have suffered a coma, seized or died, according to State Police records.

But two troopers took his erratic behavior for belligerence. They wrestled him down, hit him with a baton and arrested him, their reports said. The struggle was captured by a microphone on one of the troopers, and the recording was obtained by The Star Ledger.

On the tape, Fried can be heard screaming and telling troopers they are hurting his arm, while they yell at him to stop resisting. Fried said in court records he suffered cuts, bruises and a broken wrist, and despite repeated requests, troopers refused to fetch the fruit punch he kept in his van.

"I was stuck somewhere between angry, frustrated and embarrassed," Fried told The Star Ledger in an interview.

As the number of Americans with diabetes soars toward 26 million, there is growing concern around the country among diabetes advocates and medical experts that too many police officers don know how to recognize people in diabetic shock or how to help.

Police car camera footage of Daniel Fried arrest

On Nov. 20, 2010, Daniel Fried, 46, of Springfield, Pa., was driving home from his shore house on Long Beach Island when he suffered low blood sugar and pulled over. State Police Trooper Paul Brown responded to a report of an erratic driver, found Fried's van on the side of Route 72 in Woodland Township and suspected he may be suffering from diabetes. But when a second trooper, Scott Tetzlaff, arrived, Brown did not mention his suspicion of a medical problem or the odd symptoms Fried was displaying. The video interview of Daniel Fried is here.

When the American Diabetes Association settled a class action lawsuit against the city in 2003, alleging diabetics were denied care while in police custody, it asked Fried, an award winning director and producer, to make the training video for officers.

"Compared to most diabetics, I an expert," Fried said. "It doesn matter how much you know and who you are. District Court in Camden, Fried, 46, claims the troopers Paul Brown and Scott Tetzlaff did the opposite of what the video shows they should have done. He said they fake van cleef & arpels earrings were not trained to recognize diabetic shock, used excessive force and violated his civil rights.

The state Attorney General Office and State Police declined comment on the case, the troopers actions or their training because the matters were central to the ongoing litigation. In the lawsuit, the state denies wrongdoing.

Two sources familiar with a State Police internal investigation said the allegation of excessive force was determined to be unfounded. The sources were not allowed to discuss internal disciplinary matters and requested anonymity. The two troopers could not be reached for comment.

Wayne Fisher, a professor with the Police Institute at Rutgers Newark, said while police must be prepared to recognize people needs and attend to them, "it just not possible officers can be prepared for every possible fact situation they might encounter."

In the recordings obtained by The Star Ledger, Brown uniform microphone was not working, making it impossible to know exactly what was said between him and Fried. None of the interactions between troopers and Fried were captured on video because his van blocked the camera view.

Fried attorney, Aaron Freiwald, said the case revealed a "deep problem" with the State Police: a lack of training and sensitivity toward people in need. About 38 minutes passed from when the first trooper arrived on scene until Fried received medical care.

"All he could do was pull over to the side of the road where he did and when he did," said Freiwald. "He needed medical attention; he did not need a beating."

In State Police reports and court depositions, Brown, who was first on scene, said he suspected Fried had diabetes but did not call paramedics because he could not rule out drugs or alcohol. He said he saw no evidence of drugs or alcohol and did not smell anything.

"I asked Mr. Fried if he was diabetic to which he replied, You didn know that?! Brown, who had two years on the force at the time, said in his report. "I then asked Mr. Fried if he takes insulin to which he replied, Yes. No. I don have diabetes. I told you that.

Brown said he initially did not think Fried was much of a threat. He said he asked Fried to get out of the van, but did not frisk him and left him alone when Tetzlaff arrived.

Before the struggle, Brown did not tell Tetzlaff about his conversations with Fried, the strange behavior and his suspicion of diabetes. He told his colleague "this guy giving me the runaround" and suggested Fried was being purposefully evasive, records show.

"In my experience with, you know, people that are having a medical issue, I haven I never experienced that where somebody was just disregarding me completely, so I felt at that time, you know, that there was some intent there," Brown said in his deposition.

Tetzlaff said in his report Fried would not take his hands out of his pockets, and when he did, he put them back. Tetzlaff said he feared Fried might have a weapon, though none was found. He said Fried was belligerent and tried to walk away, so he grabbed him.

"He clenched his arms downward and pulled me close to his body with force," Tetzlaff wrote. "I took the accused to the ground and gained control of his left arm. The accused was face down, kicking fake van cleef alhambra earrings and trying to roll over on his back."

In the recording, Tetzlaff later scolded Fried for not being upfront about his condition.

"Hey you know what bud, if this is all about the sugar you may have needed or something like that, this could have all been avoided by you just saying diabetic, I need sugar, " said Tetzlaff, who also had two years on the force at the time.

Rowan Wick goes from home run hitter to flame

North Vancouver native, a cartier love lock one time slugger, has already made it to triple A after just two years of mound workRowan Wick no longer thinks pitching cartier love bracelet 16 replica is boring.

That's what he tagged it initially. Exactly that. The North Vancouver native was quoted as saying, "pitching is 100 per cent boring my childhood dream was to hit in the big leagues," not long after the St. Louis Cardinals told him, in May 2015, that they had seen enough holes in his swing and enough hope in his right arm that they were moving him from the outfield to the mound.

At the time, he was one season removed from belting 20 home runs over two lower levels of single A ball. He was also a few days behind a 33 game stretchat the high A level that featured 50 strikeouts and a .198 batting average, and a few days ahead of spending three straight months on the practice field trying to grasp the finer points of pitching.

It probably seems like another guy from another life now. With a fastball that sits comfortably in the high 90s and an improving curveball, Wick has already made it to the Cardinals' top farm team, the triple A Pacific Coast League Memphis Redbirds.

He was knocked around in an outing onThursday, giving up five earned runs in an inning. But in his first six appearances of the campaign he had a 1.93 earned run average, thanks to allowing just three hits and two earned runs over nine and two thirds innings. He struck out 11 and walked four in that span.

The Cardinals certainly seem to be grooming him to be a fireballing closer. Those feelings aren't as prevalent as they once fake bracelets like cartier love were, though.

"I had no say in it," the 6 foot 3, 220 pound Wick, 24, explained of the change in job description. "I wasn't too happy at first but I can't complain now.

"I'm glad I made the switch. With the way I was hitting at the time it was a good move."

Surrey's Adam Loewen has switched from pitching to hitting and back again. Wick hasn't spoken to him about it. The Cardinals have been one of the better teams at making such things work, though. They drafted Jason Motte as a catcher in 2003. He was pitching in the minors by 2006and in the bigs by 2008, recording a 42 save season for St. Louis in 2012.

They drafted Trevor Rosenthal as a pitcher in 2009 after he had split time between the mound and shortstop at his Kansas junior college that season. As the story goes, the Cardinals scout who pushed to pick him had only seen him throw one inning but felt the athleticism he showed in the field could translate.

As well, one of Wick's Memphis bullpen mates, Sam Tuivailala, was chosen as a shortstop by St. Louis in 2010 and spent two seasons as a position player before making the change.

Wick says he's leaned on both Rosenthal and Tuivailala for advice. That's readily part of his makeup. He asks questions.

Wick grabbed one of the last bullpen spots with Team Canada for the World Baseball Classic in the spring and one of the first things he brings up about the experience is having his locker between Ryan Dempster and Eric Gagne, who have a combined 981 games of big league experience.

To borrow a line from Dave Empey, the longtime North Vancouver minor baseball bench boss who has become a mentor to Wick, "Rowan is very coachable."

"Not a bad group of guys to learn from," Wick said of Dempster, Gagne and Scott Mathieson, the veteran Japanese league closer who also had a stall close by in the Team Canada clubhouse. "When they talk, you listen.

"Everyone has a different routine, but to be able to take things from guys like that was huge for me."

Even with that, Empey maintains he's not surprised at how quickly Wick has taken to pitching. He thinks Wick could get a call up to the majors at some point this year. He says Wick could be one of those guys who hits 100 miles per hour on the radar gun regularly one day.

Empey does know his pitching. He worked with Dempster when he was a youngster, as well as the likes of James Paxton and Tom Robson.

"He has the intelligence. He has the arm," Empey explained of Wick, a 2012 ninth round draft pick of the Cardinals. "The chances of him making it to the majors are even higher as a pitcher, I think. They need arms. They're always looking for another arm.

"I know he didn't want to pitch when it first happened, but I'm glad they made the change."

Wick's glad, too, now. Mind you, he does think that he could still do some damage at the plate if given the chance.

"We taken batting practice on the field twice in Memphis and, yes, I still have the juice," he explained.

The Beautiful Game

It was the closing minutes of a heated quarter final match between Argentina and the Netherlands during the 1998 World Cup. The two teams were desperately trying to break the 1 1 deadlock. The world thought that the game would be headed into extra time because it appeared neither team was going to score the golden goal.

Out of no where, Frank de Boer launched a 60 yard pass down the field. Dennis Bergkamp leaped up into the air and brought down de Boer's pass. With his replica van cleef and arpels necklace sale next touch, he put the ball through Roberto Ayala's legs. With a stroke of his right foot, Bergkamp placed the ball in the top right corner, beating Argentina's goalie, and sending his team to the semi finals. The packed stadium erupted with shouts of joy and amazement, and the Dutch commentator Jack Van Gelder screamed "There's Bergkamp! There's Bergkamp! There's Bergkamp!"

This moment is considered one of the greatest in all of sports, and it is a prime example why soccer is the beautiful game. However, these defining moments are not the only thing that makes soccer the beautiful game, because they can be found van cleef knock off butterfly necklace in any other imitation necklace van cleef arpels sport. Soccer is the beautiful game because of the nature of the game.

In no other sport can you witness the perfect combination of timing, power, and accuracy used by forwards to put the ball past their opposition's goalkeeper. It's almost impossible to find athletes who mix creativity with split second decision making better than a midfielder or winger in soccer. As for defenders, it takes a great deal of courage to do what they do. They have to know when the moment is right for them to make the goal saving tackle, which places them under an enormous amount of pressure.

And then there are the keepersSome say they have the easiest job on the field, but they are horribly misled. I have every ounce of respect for goalies. They risk life and limb to fly through the air and punch out a cross, they must use incredible hand eye coordination combined with the natural intuition to have an idea where the attacker will shoot the ball. On top of that, they are put in the most difficult position in all of sports when a penalty kick is given. com. The Englishmen who built Ajax

Themere sight of Ajax in a European final conjures images of Johan Cruyff, Rinus Michels and the philosophy of Total Football.

The Dutch duo rightly take the lion's share of credit for that glorious era yet two Englishmen who helped lay the foundations for the Amsterdam club's meteoric rise in the 1960s have been largely forgotten, particularly on these shores.

Jack Reynolds, a former Manchester City player, and Vic Buckingham, who played over 200 times for Tottenham, had five managerial spells between them at Ajax, across six decades, and the evidence of their work there can still be seen today.

Vic Buckingham, who played over 200 times for Tottenham, also made his name in Amsterdam

Reynolds had gone to Germany in 1914 to manage their national team. The Great War changed his plans and he fled across the border to Holland where, from 1915, he managed Ajax over three periods that traversed 27 years.

When he arrived, Ajax were a minor east Amsterdam club, who had never won a trophy. By the time he finally departed in 1947 they had won eight Dutch national championships and a KNVB Cup, elevating them to national prominence.

More importantly he had instilled in the club a belief in possession based, quick passing, attacking football that was quite different to that being played in his homeland.

Total Football conjures images ofJohan Cruyff, but Reynolds and Buckingham deserve credit

'For me the attack is and remains the best defence,' said Reynolds, who in training focused as much on skills and technique than on fitness and strength an approach that went against the status quo.

In many ways, though, Reynolds was still the typical Englishman. He wore a bowler hat and was known as 'good old Jack' or Sjek Rijnols. He was a strict disciplinarian, he learned Dutch and worked from eight every morning until 10 at night, not just with the first team but with every age group to ensure each player had imprinted upon them the Ajax mindset. It was the birth of club's fabled youth system.

Jany van der Veen, the youth coach who discovered Cruyff, considered him Ajax's greatest ever trainer and the club would later name a stand after him at their previous home, De Meer Stadium. He remained in Amsterdam until his death in 1962, by which point a slew of English managers had followed his path. From 1915 to 1965, no fewer than eight Englishmen managed the club.

In Holland they were much more receptive to Buckingham's radical coaching ideas

One of them was Buckingham, a flamboyant character who wore a trilby and counted Lulu and Sean Connery among his friends. His first stint came in 1959, and he won the Eredivisie in his maiden season.

Like Reynolds, he favoured the passing game and loathed the physical, long ball style that was common in England. 'Long ball football is too risky,' he said. 'If you've got the ball. keep it. Possession is nine tenths of the game.'

Buckingham had enjoyed success with West Bromwich Albion, with whom he almost won the first league and cup double of the 20th century, and later with Sheffield Wednesday, but English players often resisted his ideas.

Strikers, for example, did not understand why he wanted them to hold the ball up or lay it off to a team mate. Equally hard for them to comprehend was why Buckingham asked them to spend so much time on the ball in training.

If Ajax do upset the odds and defeat United, it will be thanks to Reynolds and Buckingham

A different attitude prevailed at Ajax, largely thanks to Reynolds, and Buckingham delighted in working with players who were receptive to his methods. The Londoner believed players shouldn't be shackled to their positions, that any player could do anything and that football should flow 'like ice cream and chocolate.'

If a player found himself out of his position, Buckingham saw no cause for alarm. He simply told his players that a team mate would move in to fill the space they had vacated. Watching Ajax's players master his philosophy delighted him.

'Two of them would go down the left side of the field passing to each other,' he recalled. 'Just boom boom boom, and they'd go 30 yards and two men would have cut out three defenders and created a vast acreage of space.'

So influential was Reynolds, a stand was named after him at Ajax's old De Meer Stadium

Most of all, he believed football was a form of entertainment. Buckingham had played for Tottenham at the same time as Bill Nicholson and Arthur Rowe both of whom would go on to be visionary managers copy van cleef arpels bracelet and he was a disciple of the club's famous 'push and run' style whereby players' bracelet knock off van cleef responsibilities and positions were fluid.

Unlike his peers, Buckingham was not dictatorial. He frequently asked players for their views and took a keen interest in them as people, not just as footballers. He was also eager to expose them to new styles of play and fresh ideas, inviting teams from around Europe to play friendlies against his side.

Buckingham would give Cruyff his debut in 1964, in his second stint at the club, and the pair's van cleef and arpels bracelet fake careers would follow similar paths, with both going on to manage Barcelona. Similarly, the great Michels played under Reynolds. All four would allow themselves a smile should Ajax, still sticking to the virtues of youth and passing football, defeat Manchester United in the Europa League final.

rgen Klopp begins summer recruitment

Liverpool are confident they will strike a deal for Fulham's highly rated Ryan Sessegnon, initiating a busy summer where Jrgen Klopp wants to bring in five new signings to bolster the squad for a campaign involving competition on four fronts.

The German also hopes to sign both Timo Werner and copy van cleef clover bracelet Naby Keita from Red Bull Leipzig and Andrew Robertson from Hull City, as he seeks to sign at least one left back, a forward, a central midfielder and a centre half. Southampton's Virgil van Dijk has been the main target for central defence but, although Liverpool are still pursuing the Dutch international, it is currently felt by those close to him that Chelsea are his likeliest destination.

Conscious of how Liverpool's early season title challenge faded, as well as how they will face an even bigger fixture list next season in either the Champions League or Europa League, Klopp wants to add more options especially at left back.

That area has been a problem position for the side for a long time and precedes the current manager, but the club feel they can finally solve it with the signing of 15m Sessegnon, despite competition from Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City. Given he is just 16 years old, however, Liverpool are also looking to bring in Robertson of Hull City a deal that should be even easier to strike now that Marco Silva's side have been relegated to the Championship.

A raid on Bundesliga revelations Red Bull Leipzig is also expected, with Klopp keen on 21 year old forward Werner and 22 year old midfielder van cleef knock off bracelet Keita.

Liverpool will be one of a host of clubs chasing the signature of 25 year old Dutch centre back Van Dijk. Injury problems have given Klopp a headache this season and while Joel Matip looks a good signing, Van Dijk would certainly be an upgrade on other options. He will not come cheap and it is thought that Southampton will demand as much as 50 million if Liverpool want to add him to their contingent of ex Saints players. With Sakho on his way out and the club looking to make a statement, Liverpool will be keen but wary that any deal will likely depend on Champions League qualification.

Somewhat surprising reports have arisen over recent weeks that Chamberlain will be a Liverpool player next season. A disappointing season for Arsenal has left their squad in disarray, and it is thought that the 23 year old midfielder is seeking a new challenge. The player's versatility across midfield positions is an appealing to Klopp, who will need added squad depth. Arsenal will not be keen to sell to a rival, but if the rumours are to be believed, Chamberlain has his heart set on the Merseyside club and a 35 million transfer could well be on the cards.

The struggling Spanish club will find it difficult to keep hold of the forward, 21, this summer as interest from Liverpool, Everton and Tottenham intensifies. Daniel Sturridge will surely leave Anfield in search of more game time, therefore vacating a spot for La Masia graduate Ramirez. 17 appearances between 2014 16 were not enough to keep him at Barcelona and, confident in his ability, he joined Malaga to prove his worth. After just one season at the club he has done just that, and could cost suitors just 5 million if suggestions of a release clause are to be believed.

A player Klopp will know well, the 26 year old is thought to be a serious option with the manager unconvinced by Alberto Moreno. James Milner has deputised brilliantly this season but an out and out left back is a priority for the summer. Hector has earned 27 caps for Germany since 2014 and is known for his excellent positional understanding and for putting in accurate crosses. It is thought he would cost in excess of 20 million, which could be well worth it for a good player approaching his prime years.

Another full back option, the Italian has been linked with Liverpool for some time and it is thought that a move could finally materialise as he enters the last year of his contract. Milan will be reluctant to lose him for free next summer and could cut their losses by selling for around 15 million as their new Chinese owners seek to revamp the team. De Sciglio is an experienced player with 108 caps for his current club and 31 for Italy, and is able to play at right or left back; a valuable asset in any team.

The 26 year old Brazilian winger has gained plaudits for his performances at the German champions, yet the player stated earlier in the season that he is 'not that happy', presumably at missing out to Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben regularly. He would cost upwards of 25 million and have plenty of suitors, meaning Liverpool are simply one of many clubs he could choose from, knock off van cleef clover bracelet although he did recently 'like' a tweet from a Liverpool fan about the possibility of him joining the club. There is also a chance that Costa is happy in Munich but is seeking an improved deal, which would come as no real surprise.

The most speculative target on the list is Gabon forward Aubameyang, who became a household name under Jurgen Klopp at Dortmund. Constant questions over his future are expected to culminate in a move this summer, and while his former boss will no doubt be interested, European giants Real Madrid are circling and thought to be his preferred destination. While the versatile Roberto Firmino has had a good season deployed as Liverpool's first choice striker and Divock Origi a promising talent, they still lack a world class centre forward like Aubameyang. Dortmund CEO Hanz Joachim Watzke stated earlier this year that the striker, who has three years to run on his contract, would only leave 'for an outrageous fee'.

Standardized Test Criticism

Secretary of Education Arne Duncan conceded Tuesday that there are serious flaws in standardized testing, telling attendees at a meeting of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) that much criticism about testing "is merited," according to Education Week.

Duncan was speaking in San Francisco, Calif., at AERA's annual five day conference. His remarks came on the van cleef butterfly necklace knock off same van cleef necklaces knock off day that both Dennis Van Roekel, president of the National Education Association, and Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, proposed a moratorium for negative consequences on teacher evaluations tied to the first few years of implementing Common Core State Standards, a more in depth set of math and reading benchmarks for standardized tests.

A protest was held before Duncan's speech. Picketers held signs denouncing his policies and his appearance at AERA. Some picketers' signs took aim at Duncan's and President Obama's Race to the Top program, a nationwide competition in which school districts and states compete for grant money based on assessments reflecting teacher effectiveness and student learning.

During his speech, Duncan addressed the protesters' concerns. According to EdSource, he noted that the "solution to mediocre tests is not to abandon assessment," but to support "much better assessment."

Duncan also addressed the difficulties schools may face during the first few years of Common Core implementation. When asked if he would put a copy van cleef butterfly necklace moratorium on standardized testing while schools got adjusted to Common Core Standards, he said, "We understand this is a difficult tough time of transition. We're spending a huge amount of time listening to ideas about how to do it."

The Case of 'Little Girl Lost'

Mike Connors acknowledges that it's been "kind of strange" to step back into private investigator Joe Mannix's well worn shoes after 22 years for Thursday's episode of CBS' "Diagnosis Murder."

"I'm really enjoying it," says the very fit 71 year old actor. "Once they start calling you Mannix and Joe, of course, it becomes a little easier."

This unique episode of "Diagnosis Murder" cleverly teams Mannix with his old friend Dr. Mark Sloan (Dick Van Dyke) to solve a murder case that the detective was unable to crack on his own series 24 years ago.

Scenes from the 1973 "Mannix" episode "Little Girl Lost" are used in flashback sequences. Pernell Roberts, Beverly Garland and Julie Adams, who were guest stars on the original episode, also appear.

"It's such a good idea," the jovial Van Dyke says between takes on the "Diagnosis Murder" hospital alhambra bracelet van cleef fake set in Van Nuys. "We weave the old show in so well with the flashbacks."

The program marks the first time these two TV icons have worked together. "I have known Mike for a long time," Van Dyke says. "We are really having a good time."

"We first met when we had the same tailor, Harry Cherry," adds the charming Connors. "He did all the clothes for 'Mannix.' "

This morning, Van Dyke, Connors and Barry Van Dyke, who plays Lt. Steve Sloan, are filming a scene in which Mannix has been brought into the emergency room after he was shot during his investigation of the murder case.

Watching the filming with great delight are supervising producers Lee Goldberg and William Rabkin, who came up with the idea of weaving the two series together over lunch one day.

"We talked about one of our favorite shows, which was 'Mannix,' and we couldn't believe no one had brought back the show," says Goldberg. "When we were kids we used to pretend we were Mannix. He drove the coolest car. He never got his hair mussed. I wanted to be as self assured and as confident as he was."

After coming up with the idea of combining an old "Mannix" show with "Diagnosis Murder," Goldberg and Rabkin, who describe themselves as "TV geeks," began their search for the perfect "Mannix" episode.

"I had a book called 'Television Detective Shows of the 1970s,' which lists every episode of every single detective show of the 1970s," Goldberg says. "So we started looking through eight seasons of 'Mannix' and making a list of episodes where the guest stars were alive, affordable and the story sounded interesting. We must have pulled 30 of them and watched them."

"Little imitation vca bracelet Girl Lost," Goldberg says, "had enough emotional resonance that it would carry over 20 years. What is great about this episode is that Mannix promised this little girl he would find her father's killer. In the episode, he actually discovers this whole mob plot, but he never actually nails the killer."

Goldberg then had to get up enough nerve to call his idol. "We couldn't write the episode until we got him on board. So essentially I spent an hour on the phone assuring him this wouldn't be a 'Naked Gun' spoof. We wouldn't be making fun of him and this van cleef bracelet alhambra fake would be a genuine continuation and it would be a real meaty part."

Though his hair is still perfect, time has caught up with Mannix after too many years of hard living. While in the emergency room, Dr. Sloan discovers Mannix has a potentially deadly heart condition. Being the ultimate tough guy, the private eye refuses to listen to his old friend's warnings.

"We knew we couldn't have him be the man he was 20 years ago," Goldberg says. "But we also had to be true to that man and we got a kick pairing him up with Dr. Sloan, who is soft spoken and tries to get answers out of people being roundabout and clever, and Mannix is in your face."

Beverly Garland, who is reprising her role as a tough cookie named Stella, quips that doing this show was like "coming back from the grave!"

"It was the best," says Garland, who first worked with Connors in the low budget 1955 Roger Corman flick "Swamp Women." "It's going to be fun to see all of us the way we were. It's going to be an interesting show. It works."

And the timing is right, too. There's been a major resurgence in the popularity of "Mannix" since it joined the Nick at Nite TV Land lineup last fall.

"I go into a town and all of a sudden, these young people say, 'We love the show!,' " Connors says. "I'm kind of shocked, and I have asked a few of them, 'Do you feel it's dated?' And they say, 'No. We love it.' "

Though "Mannix" was criticized for being excessively violent when it originally aired, Connors says the series is tame by today's standards. "We did have car chases and fights, but when you compare them to shows that are on now, we were very, very low keyed."
