Nissan in huge air bag recall
DETROIT Six automakers, including Toyota, Honda and Nissan, are recalling nearly 3.4 million older model vehicles worldwide because of defective air bags that can send shrapnel flying into the passenger compartment.
The van cleef necklace black recall mainly affects cars sold by Japanese automakers in North America, Europe and Japan. A small number of cars made by Germany's BMW AG and General Motors Co. and also involved.
The front passenger air bags all were made by the same parts supplier, Japan's Takata Corp. They have faulty inflator mechanisms that don't route gas into the air bags. Instead, the high pressure gas can launch plastic and metal parts from the air bags imitation Van Cleef & Arpels Clover necklace into the cars' passenger areas. Takata says no one has been hurt, but there have been six incidents of the air bags deploying improperly on roadways.
The recall, announced Thursday in Japan, is so large because many automakers use common parts on multiple models to cut costs and simplify manufacturing. This approach was pioneered by Japanese automakers.
The recall will bring a great deal of unwelcome publicity for automakers, especially Toyota Motor Corp., said IHS Automotive analyst Paul Newton. The world's top selling car company is trying to rebuild a reputation for quality that was hurt by previous big recalls.
The latest recall is the fourth for Toyota since October that involves more than one million vehicles, Newton wrote in an email. And the company endured a series of huge recalls in 2009 and 2010 for faulty braking, sticky gas pedals and defective floor mats.
Toyota will have to inspect or fix 1.7 million vehicles worldwide, including about 580,000 in North America, 490,000 in Europe and 320,000 in Japan. The models include the Corolla company, Matrix hatchback, Sequoia SUV, and Tundra pickup, as well as the Lexus SC 430 sports car. All the vehicles were manufactured from 2001 to 2003.
But the latest recall affects other major automakers, including Toyota's chief Japanese competitor. Honda Motor Co. is recalling 1.1 million vehicles worldwide, including about 680,000 in North America, 270,000 in Japan and 64,000 in Europe. Models include the Civic company, CR V small SUV and Odyssey minivan from the 2001 to 2003 model years.
Also, Nissan Motor Co. Models include the Nissan Maxima midsize sedan, Pathfinder SUV and Sentra company as well as the Infiniti FX crossover and QX4 SUV, all from the 2001 2003 model years. Recalled models in Japan include the Cube, X Trail, Maxima and Teana.
Mazda Motor Co. is also part of the recall. About 45,000 Mazda RX 8 and Mazda 6 cars are affected, including 4,000 in Japan. The company said recalls will be announced in North America, Europe, China and elsewhere. and Canada are being recalled. The 2003 models are nearly identical to the Toyota Matrix and were made at a California plant that was jointly run with Toyota.
BMW says it's researching the problem but no numbers or models are available.
The automakers said they would inspect the air bag inflators and replace them if necessary at no cost to owners.
The air bag problem happened because of two human errors during production. A worker forgot to turn on the switch for a system weeding out defective products, and parts were improperly stored, which exposed them to humidity, according to Honda spokeswoman Akemi Ando.
The recall is Takata's largest since 1995, when nine automakers had to repair faulty front seat belts in 9 million cars sold from 1986 through 1991.
Alby Berman, spokesman for Takata in North America, acknowledged that the company's image may be hurt. But he said Takata has produced millions of reliable air bags and should have enough capital with manufacturers to withstand the publicity.
But Newton said Takata, which gets 75 percent of its revenue from outside Japan, runs the risk of losing out on new supply contracts.
Takata stock plunged as much as 15 percent before closing down 9 percent in Tokyo. Toyota, Honda, Nissan and imitation Van Cleef & Arpels alhambra necklace Mazda shares rallied in Tokyo, shrugging off the recall.

Jesus married Mary Magdalene and had two children
In fact, The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown's 2003 best selling thriller, was hinged on that very premise: a secret bloodline had sprung from the union between Jesus and Mary.Of course, there have been various discoveries of 'new' gospels over the years and allegations about a romantic relationship between Jesus and Mary Magdalene have persisted for centuries.Indeed, they have frequently been explored in popular culture. For example, in the Fifties, the book The Last Temptation Of Christ suggested that the pair married after Jesus was taken down from the cross. Martin Scorsese turned the idea into a film of the same name in 1988.However, this new book focuses on a story to be found in a manuscript dating back to 570 AD and written in Syriac a Middle Eastern literary language used between the 4th and 8th centuries and related to Aramaic, the language spoken by Jesus.Written on vellum treated animal skin it had been in the archives of the British Library for about 20 years, where it was put after the British Museum had originally bought it in 1847 from a dealer who said he had obtained it from the ancient St Macarius Monastery in Egypt. For the past 160 years, the document has been studied by a few scholars but has been considered pretty unremarkable. But then Simcha Jacobovici, an Israeli Canadian film maker, and Barrie Wilson, a professor of religious studies in Toronto, took a look. After six years of study, they are convinced they've uncovered a missing fifth gospel to add to the four gospels, which tell the story of the life of Christ and are said to have been written by the evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, in the 1st century AD.If true, this would make it the greatest revelation into the life of Jesus in nearly 2,000 years. Jacobovici claims the manuscript, which is 29 chapters long, is a 6th century copy of another 1st century gospel and casts parts of the Bible in a very different light.Later this week, he will present his findings at a conference hosted by the British Library.Like the fictional The Da replica van Yellow Gold necklace Vinci Code, which had its hero scouring works of art for secret, religious messages, the document is in code. According to Jacobovici and Wilson, it tells of Jesus's marriage through the story of the Old Testament character Joseph and his wife Aseneth.Scroll down for videoJacobovici decided to look more deeply into Joseph and Aseneth, when he compared their story with other Old Testament tales. In order to test the British Library documents, the researchers used hi tech digital imaging to photograph them 13 times. They then got the manuscript translated for the first time from Syriac into English. There have been other, later, versions of the Joseph and Aseneth story, written in Latin and Greek, which have been preserved in monasteries. But by returning to the ancient Syriac, Wilson and Jacobovici say it was possible to read the text as it was intended and to decode the hidden story.Central to their claim is that Joseph was actually Jesus and that Aseneth was actually Mary Van Cleef & Arpels necklace imitation Magdalene. The new translation, according to Jacobovici and Wilson, records that the Pharaoh of Egypt officiated at the wedding between the couple, saying to Aseneth: 'Blessed are you by the Lord God of Joseph, because he is the first born of God, and you will be called the Daughter of God Most High and the bride of Joseph now and for ever.'Gospel truth? The manuscriptdating back to 570 AD (above) is written in Syriac a Middle Eastern literary language used between the 4th and 8th centuries and related to Aramaic, the language spoken by JesusAfter a seven day wedding feast, the text is said to read: 'Joseph had intercourse with Aseneth . . . It apparently disappeared from public view around 325 AD.It was at the time that the then Roman emperor Constantine the first Christian emperor was said to have ordered all other gospels to be destroyed, leaving only Matthew, Mark, Luke and John to tell Jesus's story because their version fitted with Constantine's view of Christianity.Mary Magdalene played a prominent role in the two most important moments of Jesus' life, portrayed in Pieta by Sir Anthony van Dyck'Since then, people have found bits and pieces of those other [destroyed] gospels,' says Jacobovici. 'They usually come up through the antiquities market and they're attacked as forgeries. Or they're just a few lines.'

Mapping out a new era in brain research
government funded scheme, recently began trials on healthy volunteers with a state of the art diffusion imaging scanner.
Built by German engineering company Siemens, it works by tracking the passage of water molecules through nerve fibers, giving a more accurate picture of the brain's structure and its neuronal pathways, scientists say.
"The diffusion image replica Van Cleef & Arpels necklace is a map of the water diffusion which we then convert into a marker for the fiber pathways," says Van Wedeen, director of Connectomics at the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at Van Cleef & Arpels White Mother-Of-Pearl necklace replica Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH).
"We then reconstruct it through computer algorithms that explain the water diffusion that we have observed."

From the outside, the scanner looks like a conventional MRI machine but the power inside enables it to produce images more than 10 times clearer.
"It's the difference between looking at the bonnet (of a car) and looking at the gears and Van Cleef & Arpels Replica Necklace belts inside," Wedeen said.
The idea, he says, is to dispose the brain to a coordinates system.
"Think of the difference of making maps before longitude and latitude versus making maps after," he said.
Data from the scanner is still being refined but Wedeen and his colleague Bruce Rosen are excited about its potential.
"Over time, it's clear that in addition to scanning normal volunteers we'd be very interested in scanning patients with disease," says Rosen, director of the Martinos Center for Biological Imaging at MGH.
"The tools we are developing, as well as many other scientists around the world mapping these brain circuits, may be fundamental to how we understand and conceptualize diseases and treat them," he added.

Jersey City cop 'highly intoxicated' in traffic stop
JERSEY CITY A Jersey City police sergeant was accused of driving "highly intoxicated" in Robbinsville in January 2014, but was released without charges into the custody of Jersey City police and remains on the job.
The incident is documented in a dramatic video and multiple police reports obtained via a public records request. The video, taken from the dashboard of one a Robbinsville police officer, shows one officer telling Sgt. Vincent Corso, the Jersey City cop, that he is too "f up" to drive, while just off camera there is an apparent struggle after the officers tell Corso they plan to confiscate his gun.
News of the traffic stop first surfaced two weeks ago when Robert Cowan, the former Jersey City police chief, cited the incident in a civil lawsuit he filed against the city, Mayor Steve Fulop and Public Safety Director James Shea.
Cowan alleges in his lawsuit that he ordered an internal affairs investigation into Corso's traffic stop over the objections of Fulop and Shea. The ex police chief, whose allegations have been dubbed fiction by city spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill, says Fulop tried to conceal the incident involving Corso, a local union official, because he wanted to curry favor with the union in advance of a possible gubernatorial run in 2017.
Corso, 47, the first vice president of the Jersey City Police Superior Officers Association and a 22 year veteran of the police force, did not return a phone call seeking comment.
Hudson County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Gene Rubino said his office did not investigate the matter, while Mercer County's prosecutor opted not to bring charges against the Robbinsville cops.
Jersey City public safety spokeswoman Carly Baldwin said she couldn't respond to questions about Corso because the traffic stop is "tied to ongoing litigation." Baldwin confirmed that Corso remains an active police officer in Jersey City.

'YOU'RE INTOXICATED AND YOU'RE DRIVING A MOTOR VEHICLE'
It all began with a traffic stop on Jan. in Robbinsville, a Mercer County township located about 8 miles east of Trenton.
Robbinsville Police Officer Shawn Bruton pulled Corso over on Route 130, telling Corso he was speeding and had one headlight out. In his report, Bruton wrote that he had seen Corso, driving a 2011 Buick, swerving and crossing over the roadway's center dotted line.
Bruton approaches the passenger side of Corso's car, later writing in his report that he smelled "an overwhelming odor of an alcoholic beverage" coming from the Buick when he opened the door.
Corso immediately tells Bruton he is "on the job." After Bruton returns to his patrol car to verify that he is a cop, Corso, wearing civilian clothes and a baseball cap, exits his Buick three times, leading to progressively sterner warnings from the officer.
"Are we OK here?" Corso asks the second time he left the Buick and approached Bruton's cruiser.
"Yeah, just sit in your car," Bruton says.
The drama escalates about 10 imitation Van Cleef ring minutes in, when Officer Barbara Borges arrives on the scene.
"Do we have a problem?" Corso asks her.
"Yeah, we do have a problem," she says. "You're intoxicated and you're driving a motor vehicle."
Off camera about one minute later, the sounds of a physical altercation can be heard between the two officers and Corso. In their reports, Bruton and Borges say Corso initially told them he did not have a weapon on him, then recanted, and when they told him they had imitation Van Cleef & Arpels ring to seize the weapon, he struggled, attempting to pull away from them. At this point in the video, Corso can be heard saying, "Don't do that. Don't do that."
Bruton then put Corso in a "compliance hold" with his right arm behind his back as the officers removed a Glock from his waistband, the reports say.
Borges, who called Corso "highly intoxicated'' in her written police report, repeatedly tells him that he cannot drive his car or else she'll arrest him for drunken driving he suggests he can "walk home" to Lincroft, a Monmouth County community about 43 miles northeast from Robbinsville and she tells him, "You are so f up right now you can't even speak right."
The two get into a spat after Corso repeatedly called her "brother."
"We're all brothers," Corso says.
"No, we're not," she tells him, "I'm not a male."
About 15 minutes after the initial stop, Sgt. Eric Bakay arrives on the scene. The three Robbinsville officers huddle and, according to Bakay's report, Bakay decided to call Jersey City police officers and ask them to get Corso. His car was towed to the Robbinsville police station.
"We were attempting to extend a 'professional courtesy,'" Bakay wrote.
Corso was picked up by two Jersey City cops, Lt. James Carroll and Sgt. Robert Kearns, according to Bakay's report. Kearns is president of the Jersey City Police Superior Officers Association.

Mexico Is Looking For 43 Missing Students
After a student protest in Iguala, Mexico, last month, dozens of young men were seen being hauled off into police vans. Then, they vanished.

That Van Cleef & Arpels necklace copy Friday, they went out to demonstrate against hiring discrimination and solicit funds for an upcoming protest march.
Witnesses have said that the students were in Iguala, a city in southern Mexico, when they came under fire from police.
By the end of the night, six people were left dead. The body of one student was later found with his face skinned and eyes gouged out, the New Yorker reported, "the signature of a Mexican organized crime assassination."
Some Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra Necklace fake of the students escaped Iguala, but 43 of them have not been seen since that night.
When the students didn't return and relatives and sympathizers took to the streets in protest, Mexico's federal government launched an investigation.
The City's Former Mayor And His Wife Allegedly Control The Local Drug Cartel
According to the investigation, former Iguala Mayor Jos Luis Abarca Velzquez instructed municipal police to stop the student protests at all costs.
Abarca and his wife, Mara de los ngeles Pineda Villa, are the "probable masterminds" behind the crime and are on the run from arrest, according to Mexico's attorney general.
The investigation has led to allegations that Abarca and Pineda were the heads of a murderous personal fiefdom in collaboration with the local drug cartel the Guerreros Unidos.

After his arrest, the head of the cartel told investigators that Pineda the daughter and sister of cartel members is the "key operator" of the criminal network in Iguala.
Despite expressions of shock by the Mexican government, local residents say officials turned a blind eye to the couple's gang connections. "Everyone knew about their presumed connections to organized crime," Alejandro Encinas, a senator from the mayor's Democratic Revolution Party, told the Associated Press. "Nobody did anything, not the federal government, not the state government, not the party leadership."
Investigators Say Police Worked As The Cartel's Hit Men
Investigators said that police delivered the 43 missing students to members of the Guerreros Unidos cartel, telling them that the students were members of a rival drug gang.
Guerreros Unidos hit men admitted to killing some of the students and dumping them in a pit although their bodies have not yet been identified.
In custody, Guerreros Unidos members named at least 30 local police officers they said were working directly for the cartel. "I wouldn't call these police, 'police.' I would call them hit men," Mexican federal Attorney General Jess Murillo Karam told reporters. Iguala's police chief is also on the run. Federal police officers have taken over law enforcement in Iguala, disarming the entire force.

Meanwhile, a banner demanding the policemen's release appeared in Iguala, signed by the Guerreros Unidos cartel. "Or else we will reveal the names of all the politicians who work for us. The war is just beginning," the sign threatened.
The Cartel's Control Likely Goes Far Beyond One City
The Guerreros Unidos cartel is thought to control drug routes in Guerrero state where Iguala is located and neighboring Morelos.
Federal police have taken control of more than 12 municipalities in southern Mexico after finding "presumed links to organized crime" in their police forces, Mexico National Security Commissioner Monte Alejandro Rubido said.
The cartel is one of several regional splinter groups from the notorious Sinaloa Cartel to emerge around 2011, according to investigative journalism group InSight Crime. Violence has exploded as the gangs battle for territory, and Guerrero had the highest murder rate in Mexico in 2013, the group said.
