Trying to preempt the opposition and looking ahead by a few overs while at the crease are some of the methods Virat Kohli uses to great effect in limited-overs cricket. He is so good at it that succeeding in balancing his natural game with batting for survival in the first Test was a revelation to him.On the final day of the Rajkot Test against England, with India slipping to 71 for 4 soon after tea on a pitch that had begun to take sharp turn, Kohli had to keep things simple. My biggest challenge was to not think too much about the situation that I was in, Kohli said. I think to find that balance was a revelation.Sometimes you tend to overthink, thinking too much about where the bowler is going to bowl or what he is going to do next to get you out and how much time is left in the day. Rather than that I was just focusing on one ball at a time and trying to take my mind off the situation. Not thinking too much actually helps a lot in that particular situation. You need to put your mind off and back on as soon as possible, and to play that one particular delivery. So I think that was something that was a challenge for me which I was able to overcome in the second innings and that gave me more pleasure as a batsman than scoring a big hundred or getting a big score. There has been pressure on the Indian bowling unit after they had to deal with a pitch not entirely to their liking in Rajkot. Amit Mishra was picked as the third spinner keeping in mind the batting-friendly history of Rajkot, but he came out of the Test - his first in three months - conceding more than four runs an over in both innings. He told bcci.tv that he felt under-prepared. Kohli came to Mishras defence on the eve of the second Test in Visakhapatnam, saying the odd bad day can happen to any bowler and that when judging a player, his willingness to fight mattered more than statistics.Obviously in a series where you are playing against a top side, there is very less room for grooming people as such, if you get what I am saying, Kohli said. You need to figure out as a captain how comfortable you are with the guys you are going to take the field with and how mentally prepared and aware they are walking into the field and how confident they are of picking up those wickets for you. What you mentioned is something that can happen to any bowler, being out of rhythm or not having a good game. But eventually you have to figure out over a span of two or three days how the individual is feeling, how he is behaving, what his energies are like.So it is very important to observe all those things walking into a game against a top side because you need 11 players who are on the same page and who are aware and ready to go into battle. You cant have people who are not quite there mentally. Those are the things we figure out as a management group and obviously we would like to take the best possible 11 onto the field and the best bowlers who are mentally ready to pick up 20 wickets for us. The Canadian squad, skipped by Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg, got on the board first with two in the second end, and followed that with two more apiece in the fourth and sixth ends. http://www.originaladidasshoe.com/ . It might not have mattered. While the Dodgers are preparing for the playoffs, the Padres showed their future has promise behind two rookies. The play already has a name: The Block at the Rock.Miami kicker Michael Badgley lined up to attempt a tying extra point late against Florida State, having made 72 in a row. Florida State called for the block. Assistant Odell Haggins wanted his unit to get its biggest push from the left side.Defensive end DeMarcus Walker felt he could get more push from the right side, so he asked to change the call. Haggins agreed. Miami snapped the ball. It was low and off center, throwing off the timing. Walker pushed and got his hand up.You can block it, and it can still go in, Walker said. I was just hoping it didnt go in there. The block at Hard Rock Stadium in South Florida gave the Seminoles their seventh straight win in the series, but it also left avid college football observers wondering: Is this the year of the missed extra point? The misses certainly seemed much more prevalent, perhaps because they came in high-profile contests. In Week 1, Notre Dame blocked an extra point attempt against Texas and returned it for a 2-point conversion to send the game into overtime (though the Longhorns eventually won). That same week, Clemson missed an extra point attempt against Auburn that very nearly cost the Tigers in a 19-13 win.Plenty more followed. Oklahoma State blocked three extra point attempts in a win over Texas in Week 5. Later that day, North Carolina kicker Nick Weiler had an extra point attempt blocked against Florida State that looked as if it would be the difference in the game ... until he booted a winning 54-yarder field goal with 23 seconds left. Then came the Miami miss. The question had to be asked: Have there actually been more blocked kicks this season, or does it just feel that way because they have come at such crucial moments in crucial games? According to ESPN Stats & Information, FBS kickers are converting 97.1 percent of their extra point attempts so far this year. Thats on pace to be the highest percentage since the NCAA started recording the stat in 1958.Whats more, FBS teams have had 24 extra point attempts blocked this year, the fewest through six games since 2007. Only three of those blocks came in the fourth quarter with the score margin within a touchdown (Texas, North Carolina and Miami). Miami is the only team this year to miss an extra point attempt in a game that was determined by one point.Maybe people are seeing how an extra point can impact a game or maybe the defenses rush harder when it is late in a game, Weiler said. Its not a guaranteed make, thats the thing. People look at it that way, but every kick requires the proper operation, snap and hold. There is one stat that helps explain why these blocked extra point attempts stick out: five have been returned for 2-point conversions, the second-most through six games since 2004. The highest total for a full season is nine, set in 2012.The plays certainly are unusual to see, so when they are bunched together to start a season, they become more noticeable. Especially since they have involved two of the biggest-name programs in the nation.Perhaps the only bright spot for Notre Dame this season: The Irish have taken back two blocked extra point attempts for 2-point conversions, which leads the country; the Longhorns have had it done to them twice. We work on it, Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said. We work on scooping, scoring. We dont fall on the ball. You know, were trying to pick that thing up, so we have one thats assigned to scooping and the other assigned to blocking, and thats how its worked out in both cases.Oklahoma State and Texas lead the nation in blocked kicks; the Cowboys returned one of their blocks for a 2-point conversion against the Longhorns. Oklahoma State uses its defensive line starters on field goal teams, and practices blocking field goal attempts live twice a week during practice.During those special teams drills, linemen are taught to scoop the ball up and try to score. But during regular position drills, they are told to just fall on the ball if tthey see it on the ground.dddddddddddd Conflicting messages, yes, but it goes to the heart of trying to score whenever possible -- even for players who rarely touch the ball.We led the nation and were near the top of the nation a couple years ago [in blocked kicks] and we fell back last year, so I think it was more of a challenge for the guys, defensive line coach Joe Bob Clements said. Theres pride in this. We need to get back to blocking kicks. We cant look at it as an opportunity to prevent a score -- its also an opportunity to score. We challenge the guys to produce. Weve had quite a few blocks, but weve had a lot of close ones also. Were inches away from having eight or nine this season.Texas is also tied with Old Dominion for the national lead (four) in its own kicks being blocked. Special teams problems have been ongoing since last year at Texas, dating to a loss to California when Nick Rose missed an extra point attempt that would have tied the score with 1:11 left. In that case, there was no block. He just missed.Weiler said he was at a kicking camp this summer with the Texas specialists, and felt for them.I reach out to different kickers and punters when I see something like that happen because my career has had its ups and downs, Weiler said. You know what theyre going through. Besides the ones youre playing against, you root for every punter and kicker. You hate to see our position impacted in a bad way.Old Dominion, meanwhile, has struggled with freshmen kickers learning how to go through their routine just a little bit faster. Special teams coach Charles Bankins wants attempts off between 1.2 and 1.25 seconds. On one blocked extra point attempt that was returned for two, the kick was attempted 1.4 seconds after the snap. The Monarchs have had two blocks returned for two points, though both came in victories.I know based on the youth of my guys, theres going to be some growing pains, Bankins said. Its the first time in my career this has happened. When it happens to you, you feel like its happening a million times. Ive been on the other side where weve returned it and scored and it was the difference in the ball game. I know it cant keep happening because it can cost you the game.Part of the sell job these coaches have to make to their players is to buy in to blocking for extra point attempts; while on the flip side, attempting to block the extra point and then trying to score. It is an ongoing conversation because extra point conversion rates are so high.Bankins said on the first extra point attempt that was blocked and returned for two against UMass this season, his players just stopped playing after the ball was kicked because they thought the play was over. As coaches, we know how important this is, but some of the kids have never seen it before, Bankins said. They think, Thats just coach talk. They know its important, but at the same time, they think That could never happen to us. You have to drill into your kids every play you have to play to the whistle. That is precisely why Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher opts to try to go after every kick, whether it is an extra point attempt or a field goal attempt. You should never take that -- its a play that has a point involved with it. Theres no play in a football game you should never not play, he said.Weiler said he knew the Seminoles were going to come after his extra point attempt two weeks ago, after the Tar Heels went up 34-28 with 2:40 left. So he rushed the kick and missed his first extra point since Nov. 1, 2014. When he got back to the sideline, coach Larry Fedora told him not to worry. There would be another opportunity to win the game.He took the field again with the extra point miss out of his mind, and made the game-winner.The following week, Florida State had its game come down to yet another kick. Only this time, the block worked. RENTON, Wash. Cheap Nike Air Max 90 . -- For the first time, Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll suggested Wednesday that tight end Jimmy Graham could miss games at the start of the regular season.Graham is trying to return from a patellar tendon injury he suffered last November. He began training camp on the physically unable to perform list but returned to practice last week.Weve had no issues at all in the work hes doing on the field, Carroll said. That will continue to increase throughout the next few weeks.Really were shooting for: Where is he at the start of the season? And well evaluate then on how much longer it may take, or he may be ready. We dont know that yet. But he feels good.Graham has been limited and is not yet participating in team drills.Theres some evaluation to be done going into next week, but I dont have any expectations for that right now. Well just wait and see, Carroll said.We dont have a timetable for this that he has to meet any schedule at all. Were just working him back, and hes gaining confidence, and its really important not to have any setbacks. So were being careful. With three really big weeks coming up here, well see how he goes. Well be continuing to progress him more with the action around him and stuff. Hes doing fine running routes and catching balls, and he looks good doing all that stuff.Graham has talked to other players who have rehabbed from the same injury, including Jon Stinchcomb and Victor Cruz, and they advised him that rushing back can lead to other issues. So for now, the plan remains to take it slow.Running back Thomas Rawls (ankle), meanwhile, continues to push forward and could play in the Seahawks third preseason game next week.Thomas got some really good reps in practice, Carroll said. Hell have a really solid week next week if all goes well. Well see about what that means in terms of playing. Were not going to rush that at all. But he looked good, and that was great to see.Rawls has been participating in a portion of team drills at practice and remains on track to start the opener in Week 1. SAN DIEGO -- Having hit his 400th career home run an inning earlier, Mark Teixeira couldnt resist a little bat flip after he hit No. 401.Teixeira became the fifth switch-hitter with at least 400 home runs, Didi Gregorius also connected and Chad Green got his first big league victory as the New York Yankees beat the San Diego Padres 6-3 Sunday to avoid a three-game sweep.Teixeira struck out in his first three at-bats before hitting a high, arcing shot into the home run porch down the right-field line off Carlos Villanueva leading off the eighth for No. 400. With Brett Gardner aboard on a single with one out in the ninth, Teixeira got No. 401 when he homered to right off Kevin Quackenbush. The 400, I didnt know if it was going out, Teixeira said. I hit it so high, you never really know how the balls going to carry.No. 401 was a no-doubter, and thus the little bat flip. That one I could enjoy a little bit, he said. Both balls were thrown onto the field by fans, so Teixeira got them and gave them to his father, who was at the game.Opposing teams love the Yankees, Teixeira cracked. He joined Hall of Famers Mickey Mantle (536) and Eddie Murray (504) in the 400-homer switch-hitters club, along with Chipper Jones (468) and teammate Carlos Beltran (411) who reached the milestone this year. Its really cool. I feel connected to every one of the switch-hitters, Teixeira said. Mickey Mantle played for the Yankees. Eddie Murrays the reason Im a switch-hitter. I watched him growing up in Baltimore. I got to play with Chipper Jones for a year in Atlanta, which was an unbelievable experience, and now Im playing here with `Los and we do it in the same year. Its really cool. Ill always be able to take that with me.He had not homered since April 13 before connecting against Minnesota last Sunday, and he homered against Texas on Monday. His first multihomer game since July 31 gave him seven home runs this season. Our reports obviously kind of failed us a little bit today because Teixeira got us on two breaking balls, a pitch he hasnt hit very well this year, Padres manager Andy Green said. The one I thought Villa threw was a very good pitch. The Padres were denied their first sweep of the season and what would have been their first sweep of the Yankees. I always thought I could get out big league hitters, but its nice to have the reassurance. Its always nice to get the first one.Greens only big mistake was Yangervis Solartes leadoff homer in the second. Solarte tied his career high with four hits, finishing a triple shy of the cycle.Ive definitely been battling through some things, but just trying to go out there every day and play hard and give it my best, Solarte said. I didnt even realize I was a triple shy of the cycle. Extra time will guarantee a fairer outcome in Friday nights NRL semi-final than the golden point rule alone ever could, according to Brisbane coach Wayne Bennett.Cheap Chargers Jerseys .North Queensland face the Broncos in Townsville for the right to take on Cronulla in next weekends preliminary final. If history is any guide, it will be an early test of the NRLs new rules around drawn finals. Two of the last three matches between the Cowboys and the Broncos have been decided by golden point - including last years thrilling grand final. But the Australian Rugby League Commission moved earlier this year to introduce two five-minute periods of extra time to be played in finals if scores are level at full-time.One of the leading agitators against the golden point rule, Bennett said he was really pleased about the change.I reminded the players of that this week. Its much fairer, Im more happy with that, he said.It gives everyone an opportunity to continue to play football for 10 minutes. After that I accept the fact, golden point - theres got to be a result and thats a fair way to do it.Bennett is braced for another close contest against the Cowboys, and believes there are a perfect storm of reasons why the two teams cant help but fight out close ones these days. The rivalry between the two clubs, two Queensland-based teams ... theres a great mixture of everything there and it does bring the best out of everybody, he said.Theyve been wonderful games, last season and this season. Not one of them has disappointed anybody. Im confident thatll happen again.North Queensland coach Paul Green expects the same, sensing an extra spring in the step of his players this week.Weve had some pretty epic games recently, he said. There is a bit of excitement in the way they have trained.Weve built up a great rivalry. A roundup of the past weeks notable boxing results from around the world:Saturday at Birmingham, Ala.Deontay Wilder TKO8 Chris ArreolaRetains a heavyweight title Records: Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs); Arreola (36-5-1, 31 KOs)Rafaels remarks: Wilder, one of boxings most destructive punchers, did big damage to Arreola with his power but also to himself. Making his fourth title defense, and doing so in front of a hometown crowd of 11,974 at Legacy Arena, Wilder not only busted Arreola up, knocked him down in the fourth round and nearly stopped him in the final seconds of the round, but he hits so hard that he also broke his right hand for at least the third time.In addition, Wilder, 30, of Tuscaloosa, suffered a probable tear to his right biceps, and the injuries ? will each likely require surgery and keep him out of the ring for the rest of 2016, which is a real shame.Despite the injuries, Wilder showed a big heart to fight after the fourth round with only his left arm of any use. But he continued to take it to Arreola, 35, of Riverside, California, with hooks and jabs in a thoroughly one-sided pounding. Arreola, trailing badly on all three scorecards, had a cut over his right eye and his left eye had been swollen closed, and trainer Henry Ramirez did the right thing by throwing in the towel to let referee Jack Reiss know the fight was over.Arreola, now 0-3 in heavyweight title fights with each loss by knockout, is all done at this point. He dropped to 2-3-1 with a no-decision (because of a failed drug test) in his last six fights and is unlikely to realize his dream of becoming the first fighter of Mexican heritage to win a heavyweight world title. He was lucky to even get this chance, admitting beforehand that he didnt deserve the title shot. He took the bout on somewhat short notice only after Wilders mandatory defense on May 21 in Moscow was canceled following Alexander Povetkins positive drug test for the banned substance meldonium.Even with the bad right hand for half the fight, Wilder was still in total control. According to CompuBox punch statistics, he landed 152 of 346 punches (44 percent), while the slow Arreola connected with just 52 of 188 (28 percent).Felix Diaz W10 Sammy VasquezWelterweight Scores: 96-94, 95-94 (twice) Records: Diaz (18-1, 8 KOs); Vasquez (21-1, 15 KOs)Rafaels remarks: At least the right guy won. When the entertaining fight was over, it seemed quite clear that Diaz had done more than enough to win. But when the scores were read it was 96-94 in favor of Diaz and two 95-95 scorecards, meaning a majority draw. That seemed like insanity, and it was. It turned out the cards had been added incorrectly and after several anxious moments they were retabulated and read again, this time with Diaz getting the close unanimous decision. But even those scores were poor because Diaz, 30, a 2008 Olympic gold medalist from the Dominican Republic, had taken it to Vasquez, 30, of Monessen, Pennsylvania, throughout the fight. Simply, he dominated. Many at ringside gave Vasquez only one or two rounds. For Diaz -- coming off a very questionable decision loss to former junior welterweight titlist Lamont Peterson in October -- the crazy part about eking out the win was that had referee Keith Hughes not made a somewhat weak call to take a point from Vasquez when he had his mouthpiece knocked out in the final few seconds, the fight would have been scored a draw. But Diaz dominated, and even Vasquez, who served two tours of duty in Iraq as a member of the U.S. National Guard, admitted that Diaz deserved to win.Although Diaz was the smaller man, he got inside on Vasquez with no problem and took it to the fellow southpaw round after round. Diaz controlled the pace and distance and basically did as he pleased. He landed lots of clean combinations and forced Vasquez to hold and back up regularly. He even had Vasquez wobbly and in trouble in the fifth round. He also cut Vasquez over the right eye in the 10th round (possibly on an accidental head-butt). Despite the atrocious scoring, at least Diaz was not robbed and should go on to a bigger fight in a hot weight class. And even in a loss, Vasquez, as entertaining as anyone, fought hard and should not be dismissed off this defeat. Both fighters also deserve credit for their willingness to fight on short notice. Vasquez was due to face former welterweight world titleholder Luis Collazo, who pulled out after suffering a torn calf muscle in training two weeks before the fight. Diaz, training for a lower-profile Premier Boxing Champions bout on July 12, was switched to the card to face Vasquez.Erickson Lubin W8 Ivan MonteroJunior middleweight Scores: 80-72 (three times) Records: Lubin (16-0, 11 KOs); Montero (20-2, 8 KOs)Rafaels remarks: Lubin, 20, of Orlando, Florida, is one of boxings best prospects and this is the kind of fight that probably will help him in the long run. Although he won easily and was never in any danger, he seemed a tad frustrated because he could not knock out Mexicos Montero, who took a lot of punches but simply was not intent on going the distance. Lubin, a southpaw, had the advantage in every conceivable category and put in a workmanlike effort. One thing very impressive about him is that he is such a formidable body puncher at such a young age. He tenderized Monteros body throughout the fight, and even when referee Flynn Gerald warned him for straying low in the fourth round, he remained committed to the body attack. He had Montero in a bit of trouble late in the seventh round but could not get him off his feet.Im definitely not upset with my performance. The referee was letting him get away with a lot of clinching and head- butting, Lubin said. All in all, Im happy with my performance. Im still undefeated. Im going to keep stepping up in these fights and upgrading my competition.Hell, I wanted to knock him out. But the ref wasnt really calling him for holding or even warning him for holding, so that he wouldnt hold as much and head-butt as much. He was tough. I give it to him. He came to fight. Some guys come in there to survive. That was definitely the type of fighter he was. He was in there to survive. He didnt want to go home with a knockout loss.Montero gave Lubin credit. I was happy to go the distance and I agree with the decision, he said. He definitely won, but I thought I put on a good fight. He didnt do that much damage to me. I was honored to get this fight and the opportunity to fight on national television. I hope the fans enjoyed my style of fighting. I look forward to getting back in the ring soon.Sergio Frias KO2 Vic DarchinyanJunior featherweight Scores: 80-72 (three times) Records: Frias (18-6-2, 8 KOs); Darchinyan (42-9-1, 31 KOs)Rafaels remarks: For many years, Darchinyan, a former flyweight and junior bantamweight titlist from Armenia whos based in Australia, was one of boxings best fighters and a guy who always gave the fans a show. He scored knockouts, talked a big game, fought numerous top opponents and always came to fight hard. But now the 40-year-old southpaw is a sad shell of that, and it was never more on display than watching the quite ordinary Frias, 25, of Mexico, put him to sleep with one huge right hand to the chin.As usual, Darchinyan stalked Frias. He moved forward the entire fight, while Frias often fought with his back against the ropes looking to counter. In the second round, as Darchinyan came in, Frias unleashed a right hand that caught Darchinyan flush on the chin and knocked him senseless, as referee Keith Hughes immediately stopped the fight at 2 minutes, 14 seconds. Darchinyan, knocked out in four of his last seven fights, is done and should retire before he gets badly hurt. Also, welterweight Jamal James (20-0, 9 KOs), 27, of Minneapolis, survived a first-round knockdown and won a split decision against Wale Omotoso (26-3, 21 KOs), 31, a Nigeria native fighting out of Oxnard, California. Scores were 97-92 and 96-94 for James and 96-93 for Omotoso.Saturday at Los Reyes, MexicoMiguel Berchelt KO4 Chonlatarn PiriyapinyoRetains an interim junior lightweight title Records: Berchelt (30-1, 27 KOs); Piriyapinyo (61-3, 41 KOs)Rafaels remarks: Berchelt, 24, of Mexico, was supposed to challenge then-junior lightweight world titlist Roman Rocky Martinez in a mandatory fight earlier this year. But when Martinez withdrew claiming a hand injury, Berchelt was permitted to face George Jupp for the vacant interim belt. Berchelt stopped Jupp in the sixth round in March and made his first defense against Piriyapinyo, 31, of Thailand.Berchelt was dominant against Piriyapinyo, whose three losses came in world or interim title fights in the only three bouts he has ever had away from Thailand. In 2012, he lost a decision to then-featherweight titlist Chris John in Singapore, and in 2014 he lost a decision to then-featherweight titleholder Vasyl Lomachenko in Macau, China. After the loss to Lomachenko, Piriyapinyo won nine fights in a row, a streak Berchelt put a big stop to. Late in the high-action fourth round, Berchelt landed a left hook that dropped Piriyapinyo to his knees. He beat the count but was down again on his knees moments later when Berchelt swarmed him and unloaded. Piriyapinyo wore a look of resignation on his face as referee Roberto Ramirez Jr. counted him out at 2 minutes, 59 seconds.Saturday at Cardiff, WalesGuillermo Rigondeaux TKO2 James Jazza DickensRetains a junior featherweight title Records: Rigondeaux (17-0, 11 KOs); Dickens (22-2, 7 KOs)Rafaels remarks: Rigondeaux, 35, was scheduled to fight Dickens, 25, the reigning British junior featherweight champion, in a nontitle bout on March 12 in Dicckens hometown of Liverpool, England, but the fight was canceled when Rigondeaux did not secure a visa in time. Nike Air Max 2017 Running Shoes. Since the cancellation, Rigondeaux had his world title returned to him (he had been a so-called titleholder in recess) after a long layoff, and he was making his first defense.Rigondeaux, essentially banned from the American networks because his fights are usually such dreadful snoozefests, had to once again go overseas to get a fight, this one against Dickens in what seemed a blatant mismatch. And it turned to be just that. Rigondeaux, the two-time Cuban Olympic gold medalist based in Miami after defecting, outboxed the overmatched Dickens in the first round. The second round was more of the same -- a lot of feinting, jabbing, missing and staring except for one clean left hand that Rigondeaux landed about 35 seconds into the round. Dickens, whose seven-fight winning streak ended, finished the round but then the fight was stopped because that punch broke his jaw.Terry Flanagan W12 Mzonke FanaRetains a lightweight title Scores: 120-106 (three times) Records: Flanagan (31-0, 12 KOs); Fana (38-10, 16 KOs)Rafaels remarks: In a mismatch from the moment the fight was conceived, Flanagan, a 27-year-old southpaw from England, easily routed Fana to retain his 130-pound belt for the third time. South Africas Fana, 42, is a former two-time junior lightweight titlist, but his best days are way behind him and it showed as Flanagan won with ease in a bout moved to this card at the last minute. It was originally scheduled to take place July 9 but switched to this show when the heavyweight title rematch between Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko was postponed after Fury suffered an ankle injury. It was easy work, as Flanagan dropped Fana to his knees with a left hand to the temple 15 seconds into the second round and cruised against an awkward Fana. Flanagan put the icing on the victory by scoring another knockdown on a right hand midway through the final round. It would be nice to see Flanagan matched with a serious opponent. A unification fight with the winner of the fight between countryman Anthony Crolla and former titlist Jorge Linares, who meet Sept. 24, would fit the bill.Saturday at BerlinGiovanni De Carolis D12 Tyron ZeugeRetains a super middleweight title Scores: 114-114 (twice), 115-114 Zeuge Records: De Carolis (24-6-1, 12 KOs); Zeuge (18-0-1, 10 KOs)Rafaels remarks: De Carolis, 31, of Italy, won a secondary 168-pound belt on Jan. 9 in Germany when he knocked out Vincent Feigenbutz in the 11th round in a rematch of a close decision loss to him in October. He made his first defense against Zeuge and kept the belt via close draw. The result ruined Zeuges bid to make history as the youngest German fighter to win a world title. Had he won, he would have broken the record by eight days. Graciano Rocchigiani was 24 years and 73 days when he knocked out Vincent Boulware in the eighth round to win a super middleweight world title in 1988.De Carlolis and Zeuge, who is trained by reigning light heavyweight titlist Juergen Braehmer, put on a spirited, fan-friendly fight but one De Carolis did just enough to pull out. Zeuge was aggressive as usual, and De Carolis, although more defensive-minded, showed spurts of offense and targeted the body.Zeuges chances of winning were diminished in the 10th round when he injured his left shoulder, leaving him a one-armed fighter in the late rounds. He showed grit to make it to the final bell, but De Carolis, knowing he did not have much to worry about in the final two rounds, poured on the offense and closed strong. Although a rematch is possible, De Carolis could wind up making a defense against former two-time super middleweight titlist Arthur Abraham, Zeuges stablemate who won on the undercard.Arthur Abraham TKO8 Tim-Robin LihaugSuper middleweight Records: Abraham (45-5, 30 KOs); Lihaug (15-2, 8 KOs)Rafaels remarks: On April 9, Abraham, 36, of Germany, lost a shutout decision and his 168-pound world title to Gilberto Zurdo Ramirez in Las Vegas. It was perhaps the single worst performance of Abrahams long and distinguished career, during which he won a middleweight world title and twice won super middleweight belts. The loss seemed to spell the end for him, but Abraham still believes he has something left and wants another shot at a title, so he made his return against Norways 23-year-old Lihaug, who considers Abraham his boxing idol. His idol or not, Abraham showed little mercy in a dominant win. He rocked Lihaug throughout the fight before sending him to the canvas in the eighth round with two right hands and a left. Lihaug rose quickly, but he was in rough shape. Abraham was all over him in a follow-up attack, forcing referee Mikael Hook to wave off the fight at 1 minute, 9 seconds, just as Lihaugs corner was throwing in the towel. It was an easy win for Abraham, but it remains to be seen if he is still good enough to compete at the top of the division.Saturday at Lancaster, Calif.Casey Ramos TKO5 Hardy ParedesLightweight Records: Ramos (23-0, 6 KOs); Paredes (18-14, 11 KOs)Rafaels remarks: In Top Ranks Solo Boxeo Tecate main event on UniMas, Ramos, a 26-year-old prospect from Austin, Texas, suffered a second-round knockdown when Paredes, 33, of Chile, caught him around the neck with a right hand. But Ramos rallied by dropping Paredes in a weird sequence in the third round. After what appeared to be an accidental head clash, Paredes turned away and walked toward the ropes as he held his jaw, but Ramos chased after him and drilled him with a right hand to knock him down. In the fifth round, Ramos was pounding Paredes when he appeared to wave to referee Tom Taylor that he was done, and Taylor jumped in and stopped the fight at 58 seconds.Friday at Tunica, Miss.Sergey Lipinets TKO7 Walter CastilloJunior welterweight Records: Lipinets (10-0, 8 KOs); Castillo (26-4-1, 19 KOs)Rafaels remarks: Lipinets, a 27-year-old former kickboxer from Kazakhstan who fights out of Valley Village, California, got off to a slow start but finished strong in a good performance in the main event of the Premier Boxing Champions card on ESPN. Lipinets fought through a deep cut over his left eye to stop Castillo, 27, of Nicaragua.Lipinets, trained by Buddy McGirt, said before the fight that he wanted to score a spectacular knockout so it would make the top 10 plays on SportsCenter. But while he didnt get that done, he still fought with crowd-pleasing aggression. In the third round, a left hand bloodied Castillos mouth. Castillo, however, had his moments, especially when he opened up on offense to drive Lipinets back toward the ropes in the fourth round. A Castillo punch opened a gash over Lipinets left eye. Lipinets, with blood dropping down his face, continued to break Castillo down. In the seventh round, he got him on the ropes and began to tee off on Castillo, forcing referee Bill Clancy to step in at 2 minutes, 45 seconds. At the time of the stoppage, Lipinets led on one scorecard but was even on the other two.Lipinets landed 123 of 340 punches (37 percent) and Castillo connected on 79 of 351 (23 percent), according to CompuBox punch statistics. We knew Walter Castillo was a very tough guy coming in, Lipinets said. No one ever stopped him. No one ever even hurt him in the ring before, and he was in with some solid guys. I knew he could take a punch and punch back. To be honest, though, I was surprised by how good of a fighter he was. The cut bugged me for a while and I was closing my eye a bit, but Im a warrior and I know how to take care of myself when Im trouble.I have only 10 fights and I just beat a guy that good. I think I did OK. This fight just took me to a completely different level in boxing. I guarantee that other guys with 20, 25 fights wont be able to stay in the ring with me.Castillo said he did not agree with the stoppage. They stopped it too early. I was still fighting, he said. I was fine. I was not hurt. I dont know why they stopped it. I was waiting him out and about to open up. I am a veteran. If I was hurt, I would have taken a knee. How do you stop a fight without a knockdown? I had him fighting scared with the cut. He was fighting desperate and that was his last try. Im very upset. I was able to fight. It was a good fight and that ruined it. I dont mind losing but not like that. Let me go down swinging.Tugstsogt Nyambayar TKO1 Rafael VazquezFeatherweight Records: Nyambayar (6-0, 6 KOs); Vazquez (16-3, 13 KOs)Rafaels remarks: Nyambayar, a 24-year-old 2012 Olympic silver medalist from Mongolia now living in Los Angeles, plowed through Vazquez, 38, a Puerto Rico native fighting out of Brooklyn, New York. Nyambayar, who is trained by Joe Goossen, scored three knockdowns. He dropped Vazquez 30 seconds into the fight with a right hand and 30 seconds later with another right hand. Nyambayar ended matters when he connected with a left to the body and a series of punishing rights to the head that drove him to the canvas again, as referee Keith Hughes called it off at 1 minute, 24 seconds.I didnt know I was going to be able to put on that kind of a performance, Nyambayar said. I have 100 percent of my energy left. I dont know exactly how much power I actually have. Im very happy with the result, but I expected to win. I came in very confident. I thought it would go three or four rounds, but the opportunity to end it earlier appeared and I took it. Whoever comes my way, Im ready. Im on the road to be world champion and no one can stop me. NEW YORK -- Until last week, Semi Ojeleye had not appeared in a game for nearly two years and even when he played at Duke, the minutes were limited. Adidas Ultra Boost Sale Mens .Since then, Ojeleye has been putting in the work away from the court and so far it is paying off much to the delight of SMU coach Tim Jankovich.Ojeleye continued his torrid start by scoring 20 of his 24 points in the second half and SMU defeated Pittsburgh 76-67 in the first semifinal of the 2K Classic at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night.Of course, its enjoyable when a guy sits out, (is) a transfer and you hope he has success, Jankovich said. But Ill triple that because Semis one of the most outstanding young men that you could ever be around your entire life and on top of that he is arguably the hardest worker away from practice time in terms of the time he puts in.Hes a machine, literally, and were like blown away. Weve been around a lot of hard-working guys. I have not been around a guy you set your clock by this guy. Its each and every day and he cant get enough.Ojeleye scored 46 points in 23 games in two seasons with Duke before transferring to the Mustangs following the 2014-15 season. The junior forward surpassed his point total from Duke in the first half when he shot 2 of 7 and then surged past it with several outstanding athletic plays during the second half.Just staying confident, Ojeleye said. Nothing changed in the locker room. I didnt think about what the stats were. I kept trying to do the same stuff I was doing in the first half.Ojeleye missed his first two shots of the second half before starting to roll. He made a 3-pointer about 3 1/2 minutes into the half to give the Mustangs the lead for good and capped his 9-for-17 showing by converting a transition layup in the final minute.Ojeleyes 7-for-10 showing in the final 20 minutes was part of a second half when the Mustangs shot 57 percent after missing nine straight shots to end the first half.Besides Ojeleyes impressive showing, Shake Milton added 14 points while Ben Moore contributed 12.Michael Young scored nearly half of his 22 points at the foul line for Pittsburgh. Jamel Artis added 20 for the Panthers, who had averaged 96 points in home wins over Eastern Michigan and Gardner-Webb.Hes athletic, Young said of Ojeleye. He can really get up vertically and he can make some shots. We knew that going in. He got it going in the second half and guys like that we got to take away air space and make them uncomfortable.BIG PICTURESMU: The Mustangs came into the game playing effective defense by allowing 54 points per game and for the most part they continued it. Their defense forced several traveling violations, including one with about 13 1/2 minutes left which resulted in an unsportsmanlike technical and ejection for Sterling Brown. Brown was handed the technical for emphatically applauding in the face of Artis after his defense resulted in a traveling violation.Pittsburgh: The Panthers have struggled defensively and other than the final five-plus minutes of the first half, their defensive issues continued. The Panthers have allowed an average of 82 points so far and even when Stallings started instructing his players to press, it was unsuccessful. Turnovers also continued to be an issue as Pittsburgh committed 13, resulting in 11 fewer field-goal attempts.FAMILIAR COACHING MATCHUPJankovich and Stallings worked together at Vanderbilt. Jankovich was an assistant under Stallings from 1999 to 2002 and the Commodores made two NIT appearances. Jankovich also coached at Illinois State from 2007-2012 over a decade after Stallings coached there.ANOTHER JETER IN NEW YORKFor the second college game at Madison Square Garden, there was a Jeter on the court. Unlike Dukes Chase Jeter, who wears the number two -- the same as the former Yankees captain -- Pittsburghs Sheldon Jeter wears number 21, the same as Pirates Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente. The statement said UNC will respond to the NCAAs Notice of Allegations (NOA) on Aug. 1, then publicly release a copy a day later after a review and possible redactions to comply with privacy laws. There is no new information in the case nor has there been a change to the NOA sent in April, UNC said in the statement. That document charged UNC with lack of institutional control and four other potentially top-level violations tied to the schools long-running academic fraud scandal. The school and individuals charged had 90 days to respond. That timeline fell on a Sunday, so the deadline was originally moved to Monday. The response is the latest procedural step in a case that began as an offshoot of a 2010 NCAA probe into the football program. CHICAGO -- In case they werent aware already, the Chicago Blackhawks now know theyre going to have to earn it if they want to get past Detroit. Maillot Goncalo Guedes . The Red Wings hammered home that message on Saturday. Damien Brunner and Brendan Smith scored in the second period and Detroit beat the Blackhawks 4-1 in Game 2 to even their Western Conference semifinal series. It was a strong response by the Red Wings after Chicago handled them easily in the series opener, 4-1. "Weve got a real good club now," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. "And we havent been good all year. Weve just gotten better." Their confidence got a big jolt after they knocked off the Presidents Trophy winners and avoided falling into a deep hole. It was another big win by a team that finished seventh in the conference, only to knock off second-seeded Anaheim in the first round. Now, theyre even with a team thats been rolling along all season and is eyeing its second Stanley Cup in four years. "Both teams would be stupid if they thought they were going to come in here and either team win four straight," Chicagos Brent Seabrook said. Just as the Blackhawks did in Game 1, Detroit took control in the second period and put the game away in the third. Now, the Red Wings have a chance to take the lead when this series between Original Six rivals shifts to Detroit for Game 3 on Monday. "Overall, I think we had more energy," the Red Wings Henrik Zetterberg said. "We did a lot of the little things better than we did in Game 1 and when we got our chances we were able to put the puck in the net." Patrick Kane gave Chicago a 1-0 lead late in the first, but did things ever change after that. Brunner tied it when he deflected a wrist shot by Jakub Kindl early in the second, and Smith gave the Red Wings the lead when he scored off a feed from Zetterberg on a 3-on-1 late in the second. Johan Franzen made it 3-1 in the third when he fired a rising shot past Corey Crawford after a perfect pass from Jonathan Ericsson in the Detroit zone. And Valtteri Filppula closed out the scoring with 7:57 left in the game. That was enough for Jimmy Howard, who stopped 19 shots. Crawford made 26 saves for Chicago and played well at times even though things got out of hand down the stretch. When it was over, coach Joel Quenneville insisted his faith in his goalie hasnt wavered. "Not at all," he said. "Across the board, we should all assume responsibility." The Red Wings were simply a step faster and were more physical in this one after the Blackhawks ran away from them in the opener. "I think just by taking care of our own end first, making good plays, you end up playing a faster game that way," Smith said. "By taking away their speed, it helps out ours. You want to get a lot of contact on these types of teams, and it works out for us." The Blackhawks still struck first thanks to a lucky bounce after Detroits Kyle Quincey sprawled out to block a pass across the slot by Patrick Sharp that was intended for Kane on a 2-on-1 rush. The puck bounced to a trailing Michal Handzus, who immediately fed it to a wide open Kane in the right slot. He fired it into the net at the 14:05 mark for a 1-0 lead and his first goal of the playoffs. About a minute later, with the Red Wings on a power play, Crawford made a nice save on Zetterberg before Pavel Datsyuk ripped a shot high off the right post. Detroit tied it early in the second when a wrist shot by Kindl from just inside the blue line deflected off Brunner and past a screened Crawford, who didnt even react as the puck went past him on the glove side. But Chicagos goalie had the fans chanting his name midway through the period with two great saves, stopping Zetterberg from the slot and sprawling out to foil Daniel Cleary on the rebound. The Red Wings took a 2-1 lead with 3:52 left in the second after Chicagos Niklas Hjalmarsson fell racing Zetterberg for a loose puck. Zetterberg then dished to Smith on a 2-on-1 rush for the go-ahead goal. "He creates a lot of stuff, sometimes for both teams," Zetterberg said in a nod to Smiths struggles in Game 1. There werent many mistakes by the Red Wings in this one. Other than Kanes goal, they contained the Blackhawks stars and made it look easy over the final two periods. "They kind of used our own style against us as far as holding onto the puck and keeping it away from us," Kane said. NOTES: LW Drew Miller was in the Red Wings lineup for the first time since April 20. He had been sidelined by a broken bone in his right hand. ... F Viktor Stalberg was a healthy scratch for the Blackhawks, just as he was in Game 1. "I dont like changing too much, but we wanted to get (Dave Bolland) in our lineup," Quenneville said before the game. "Its comparable to what weve done during season. But well see. We can adapt and change at any moment." ... Quenneville on the early start: "I think the guys, once they get in, they dont mind playing in the afternoon." Maillot Angel Di Maria . The Rays had a chance to overtake the Red Sox for first, and now itll have to wait. "It would be nice to leave town that way," Maddon said before the game was called. PETERSBURG, Fla. The BCCI-Lodha Committee hearing in the Supreme Court has been put off for the second time in a week; after adjournments on December 5 and December 9, the issue of the Indian board not implementing the Lodha Committees recommendations in total will now be heard on December 14.The adjournment was because another case that the Supreme Court was hearing on Friday took too long. The Supreme Court had last heard the BCCI-Lodha Committee case on October 21, when it passed an interim order asking the board to stop disbursing funds to state associations until the association gave a written resolution that it would adopt the Lodha Committees recommendations. BCCI president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke were also required to submit an affidavit of compliance in the court by December 3, elaborating on the recommendations already implemented by the board and the steps taken to persuade the state associations to adopt the recommendations in total.Since the previous hearing, the Lodha Committee submitted its third status report in the Supreme Court and once again recommended that the BCCI and state office bearers who did not meet the eligibility criteria laid out in the recommendations be removed immediately. It also recommended that GK Pillai, the former home secretary in the federal government, be appointed an observer of the BCCI and that he oversee the boards financial transactions. The BCCI rejected the suggestion and also said that the Lodha Committtees inaction had tremendously hurt the image of Indian cricket. White Air Max Online. The BCCI had remained firm in its stance that it could not force the Lodha Committees recommendations on its state associations, and that a majority vote was needed to pass them. At several board meetings, the states had voiced opposition to most of the Lodha Committees recommendations: in particular, the one-state-one-vote policy, the age cap for office bearers, and the limits on tenure. The Lodha Committee - comprising former Chief Justice of India RM Lodha and retired Supreme Court judges Ashok Bhan and R Raveendran - was formed in January 2015 to determine appropriate punishments for some of the officials involved in the 2013 IPL corruption scandal, and also to propose changes to streamline the BCCI, reform its functioning, prevent sporting fraud and conflict of interest. In January 2016, the committee released its report, which recommended an exhaustive overhaul of the BCCIs governance and administrative structures. On July 18, the Supreme Court approved the majority of the recommendations and directed the Lodha Committee to supervise the BCCIs implementations of the same. However, despite the Lodha Committee laying out timelines and other directives, the board has not cooperated because its state associations objected to the recommendations.
