preemie Alexandra Mae Van Kirk thriving after heart surgery

Last month, Alexandra became one of the world's tiniest humans to undergo the procedure. It involves a surgeon inserting a tiny catheter into the patient's femoral vein, then an un inflated balloon is placed through the opening of the narrowed pulmonary valve. The balloon is inflated, replica hermes birkin handbags which improves blood flow, and then removed.

Her surgeon at the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids had performed the procedure 300 times in the last 20 years, but never on a baby so small. The smallest patient before "Mighty Girl" weighed 4 pounds.

On Thursday, her mother Heidi Van Kirk told CBS News that Alexandra, now one month old, is doing well and the procedure was a great success. replica hermes handbags outlet Her weight is up to 2 pounds and 15 ounces.

"She has good facial expression. She's just a very animated Hermes Kelly bag replica little girl. When she gets mad she gets those cute little facial expressions," said Van Kirk. "She just looks fuller now; she looks more squishy."

Earlier this week, doctors put the how much is a hermes handbag baby back on caffeine to help improve her breathing and swallowing reflexes. And she's already started eating from a bottle.

Twenty two weeks into the pregnancy, Van Kirk learned the baby was not developing as she should. "She was only given a 35 percent chance to make it to a live birth," said mom, choking up. But the couple never considered terminating the pregnancy. "When we went to the high risk doctor she slightly mentioned it, and we said it wasn't an option. She smiled and it was never mentioned again."

It's still unclear when the resilient infant will be ready to go home with her family. The medical team and her parents are hoping for September, but the coming weeks will be critical to her health. "For the next month it's just about her learning to eat and getting bigger," said Van Kirk. "She needs to learn to regulate her body temperature. She has to pass her car seat challenge."

For now, the couple is using the time to become better acquainted with their new little one. Her big sister Josephine, 18 months old, is also getting to know her. "She knows there's something different about the baby and that she's ours but she doesn't understand why the baby is in a box," said Van Kirk. "To give the baby a kiss she has to actually kiss the outside of the isolette."

Party criticised for patronising 'Barbie doll' colour as Harriet Harman attempts to appeal to women voters

Labour will today appeal to women voters to help it win the general election, telling them their support can stop politics being a "men only club".

Analysis by the party of the candidates chosen to fight marginal seats shows that women would make up 43 per cent of Labour's MPs if it wins a majority in May close to its 50 per cent target.

More than half (53 per cent) of Labour's candidates in its target seats will be women, Labour claims, compared with 25 per cent of the Conservatives' candidates in their target constituencies and 31 per cent of Liberal Democrats in theirs.

Men will literally take a back seat in fake hermes kelly bagd Labour's "Woman to Woman" campaign when Harriet Harman, the party's deputy leader, tours more than 70 seats from today in a pink 16 seater mini bus. The party denied that the "Barbie doll" colour was patronising to women, insisting it was a deeper "burgundy end of pink" used in the party's "One Nation" campaign. They want women to speak up for them. Politics is too important to be left as a male only activity. Women are entitled to have a government elected by them that understands them and will deliver for them. Conservatives want women's votes so they can get Hermes Kelly bag replica into government, full stop."

Harriet Harman, deputy Labour leader: 'Women do not want to be told by men how they feel'

She admitted: "We [women] have not made all the progress we need. Women believe they are equal citizens of the country. fake hermes leather handbags Our politics is left behind. It is still male dominated. We are still pioneers in the male business of politics. We are in the minority, but we are making progress."

Labour's campaign will target the 9.1 million women who did not vote in the 2010 election, telling them: "Don't give up on politics." The party leadership argues that this group "holds the balance of power" in what it describes as a "watershed" election for women.

Lucy Powell, vice chair of hermes replica Labour's general election campaign, said: "This is a once in a generation choice about who our country works for."

Caroline Dineage, a Tory MP, said: "The wheels have come off the Labour bus. Getting Harriet Harman to drive around the country in a pink van to try and attract the female vote is as patronising as it gets. This is clearly just another divisive gimmick that the electorate will see through."

Tory MP Caroline Dineage described Labour's campaign as a 'gimmick' (Getty)

Nick Clegg urged businesses to smash the "glass ceiling" for women and called for a million more female workers to be in employment by 2020. The Deputy Prime Minister told the British Chamber of Commerce that at the highest levels too many firms are male dominated and more work was needed to close the gender pay gap.

He said: "We have started to crack the glass ceiling, but we are still a long way from smashing it. In Britain today, too many women find their talents are wasted."

Urging bosses to implement Liberal Democrat plans for shared parental leave and flexible working, Mr Clegg said: "Too many women still face a heart breaking choice between pursuing their career and caring for their family. And too many businesses let the status quo persist year after year."

Police search for Madrid bombers

MADRID, Spain (CNN) Spanish government officials have pinned the blame on the Basque separatist group ETA for Thursday's blasts in Madrid that killed at least 192 people, but investigators were also exploring a lead with Arabic and Islamic links.

The brazen morning rush hour terror strikes at city train stations also wounded at replica hermes handbags outlet least 1,400.

The tape contained no threats and is a type available commercially. The van was stolen last month.

The new line of investigation, sparked by a citizen's tip, raised the possibility of a link to Islamic militants. official cautioned it was "still too early to say" whether the replica hermes birkin handbags bombings were the work of ETA or other terror groups, including al Qaeda. official said "keep in mind we often see false claims of responsibility," and that even for attacks it did commit, "al Qaeda frequently takes no public credit."

Khalid al Shami, political editor of Al Quds Al Arabi newspaper in London, told CNN the letter was from Abu Hafs al Masri, which he said was affiliated with al Qaeda.

He said the group has issued credible claims in the past and claimed responsibility for Monday's attacks in Istanbul on a Masonic lodge.

But intelligence sources have consistently told CNN that Abu Hafs al Masri does not speak for al Qaeda, and there is a question about whether it exists at all beyond one person with a computer and a fax machine. (Full story)

In an interview on Radio Popular in Basque Country, Arnaldo Otegi, leader of banned radical political party Batasuna, said he did not believe ETA was responsible.

The attacks could have been "an operation by sectors of the Arab resistance," he said. Before the discovery of the van, Acebes said Otegi was simply trying to confuse the situation.

ETA 'must be crushed'The scale of the attack was unlike anything ETA has ever carried out. The highest death toll in any ETA linked attack was in 1987 when 21 Hermes Kelly bag replica were killed in a Barcelona supermarket blast.

Attacks blamed on or claimed by ETA through the years have killed 800 people in Spain. The group has been fighting for fake hermes leather handbags an independent homeland in northern Spain.

One Basque official called it the worst terror attack in Spanish history.

The Spanish ambassador to the United States, Javier Ruperez, who said he believes ETA was responsible, said "in a way it is" Spain's September 11, referring to the 2001 terror attacks in New York and Washington.

Spain's Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar addressed the nation and condemned the terrorists attack, saying ETA must be crushed, and opposed negotiations with them.

"There is no possible negotiation with these killers," he said.

Countries across the world expressed their outrage. (0700 GMT) along the southern part of Madrid's train network, officials said.

Acebes said there were multiple explosions at the Santa Eugenia, El Pozo and Atocha stations, and three other bombs were found and detonated by police.

The deadliest blast happened on a train entering Madrid's main Atocha station, according to Acebes.

Acebes said suspicion focused on ETA because the modus operandi was similar in December and February incidents, and the type of explosives matched those typically used by ETA. Anti terror officials said the dynamite was stolen in France three years ago.

Pilot error killed property heir

The heir apparent to the Hopper family property development empire may have been a victim of his own abilities when a low flight manoeuvre went "horribly wrong" at a Northland airstrip, a coroner has found. An inquest into the death of Stace Hopper, 27, project manager for the Marsden Cove development and eldest son copy handbag Hermes of Hopper Developments' chief executive, Hermes bag replica Leigh Hopper, was held at the Whangarei District Court yesterday.Stace Hopper died at Marsden Cove on March 12 last year after the plane he was flying crashed and was engulfed in flames.Coroner Brandt Shortland said pilot error had caused the crash."It was a low flying manoeuvre, for whatever reason Stace decided to do, that went horribly wrong."The court heard Stace Hopper was about to return to the Northshore Aeroclub and was carrying out preflight checks when colleague and friend Simon Kirkpatrick noticed one of the company's water tankers being driven on to the roughly constructed runway.Mr Kirkpatrick stopped the truck and parked his red van, with his son in the front seat, on the side of the strip. Stace Hopper rolled down the runway, took off but was flying unusually low. As the plane approached the van Stace went into a righthand banking manoeuvre."The plane lost all lift and fell. It hit bag Hermes copy the van," Mr Kirkpatrick said.Mr Kirkpatrick and his son were covered with shattered glass from the windscreen. He got the water tanker and with the help of the tanker driver and Mr Hopper's younger brother, Gray, doused the flames. They pulled off a panel and found Stace dead. He said the family had lived a fast life and had competed in plenty of speed related sports. He described his eldest son as "exuberant"."He achieved at everything he did. He was even called to Australia to do jetski demonstrations. He got into flying at an early age and was into motorsport. That exuberance clearly led him to undertake a manoeuvre to be what I consider a high speed take off. We will always be at a loss as to why he failed to leave enough margin for error."The coroner found no mechanical faults contributed to the crash and a toxicology report showed no signs of drugs or alcohol in his blood."He was a very talented man and gifted at many things and was the heir apparent to a Hermes Kelly handbag replica family business. In some ways he was a victim of his own abilities."He was extremely competent at rally driving, jet skiing and flying."With that sort of ability he made a decision on that day to do a low flying manoeuvre that didn't go to plan," Mr Shortland said. Raspberry Pi Based Wireless FM Microphone

A wireless microphone is a microphone without a physical cable connecting it directly to the sound recording or amplifying equipment with which it is associated. Also known as a radio microphone, it has a small, battery powered radio transmitter in the microphone body, which transmits the audio signal from the microphone by radio waves to a nearby receiver unit, which recovers the audio. The other audio equipment is connected to the receiver unit by cable. Wireless microphones are widely used in the entertainment industry, television broadcasting, and public speaking to allow public speakers, interviewers, performers, and entertainers to move about freely while using a microphone to amplify their voices.

There are many different standards, frequencies and transmission technologies used to replace the microphone's cable connection and make it into a wireless microphone. They can transmit, for example, in radio waves using UHF or VHF frequencies, FM, AM, or various digital modulation schemes. Some low cost (or specialist) models use infrared light. Infrared microphones require a direct line of sight between the microphone and the receiver, while costlier radio frequency models do not. ( wikipedia)

Once you have the Pi all set up, you'll be able to amplify your voice with any all in one radio or boombox. This could be useful for giving lectures or presentations where it might be hard to hear you and there isn't a professional Hermes Kelly handbag replica PA system. You could also use it in a van or other large vehicle to communicate over the car's speakers.

Here is the step by step instructions how raspberry pi can be used as a very good quality wireless microphone and can be used in class room, seminar, knock off Hermes bag so keep reading.

We know wireless microphone is actually a wireless radio transmitter. Microphone convert our voice (audio signal) into electrical signal and the transmitter transmit the signal as radio wave. Pi is acting as a FM transmitter in this project. So lets make our Pi FM transmitter. For the thing I want to thank the people over at Imperial College Robotics Society have a new way to use it as FM Transmitter. They designed a program that turns the Pi into an FM radio transmitter.

Our first work is to download the program in our cool Raspberry Pi. For that you must connected to the Internet first. Don't afraid, you only need the internet to download the software, you can use this afterwards without internet. OK, we are connected to out Raspberry Pi, now lets start downloading.

One important thing: Connect a 20 30 cm wire (jumper wire will work fine) to the GPIO PIN 4 (shown in figure above) of your Raspberry Pi to increase the range of your transmitter.

Procedure1.

2. Untar (unzip) the file you downloaded. You can transmit any frequency within FM range just typing the frequency instead of 100.0.

Step 4: Connecting USB Microphone to Raspberry Pi

The Raspberry Pi comes with a 3.5mm analogue stereo audio output, but no input. As a radio amateur I am interested in using the Raspberry Pi as microphone to do this I need an audio input. This can be achieved by connecting a USB audio device to your Raspberry Pi.

Make sure your Raspberry Pi is turned off and insert the USB audio device into one of the USB sockets on the Raspberry Pi, and then power up your Raspberry Pi. The USB audio device should be automatically installed. Go in SSH or LXTerminal window and type the following and press Enter

sudo apt get install alsa utilsYou may already have this package on your system, but entering this command won't do any harm even if you do. This will install a package of ALSA utilities if you don't already have them (ALSA stands for Advances Linux Sound Architecture).

Now, You should make sure that the USB audio device is being detected by both the hardware and software. Enter the following command and press enter. (image 6)

lsusbThis will display information regarding attached USB devices. As you can see, the last device listed in the screenshot (image 6) above is the USB audio device labelled as C Media Electronics, Inc. Audio Adapter.

To start it, simply enter the name in the command line, like so:

alsamixerThis presents a more graphical view (image 8,9,10) of the volume and information regarding the USB audio device. Using the arrow keys on your keyboard, select the volume column and adjust the volume higher or lower, dependent on your needs. Where possible, keep the volume level below 80 90% to avoid any distortion.

Step 5: Transmit imitation Hermes Kelly handbag Your Voice to Hermes fake bag FM Band

Our FM transmitter and Microphone setup is ready to transmit our voice. Here is the command you will use to start the broadcast. Each piece will be explained. Note that this command may need modified to work for your mic, just keep reading.

Property tycoon 'Black Jack Dellal plays his last hand

He quietly enjoyed the sobriquet, although whether it was the product of long hours at the gaming table or derived from dealing in black textiles in Manchester is not clear.

But the nickname Jack Dellal epitomised the life of a property magnate who established a reputation as one of the shrewdest, most controversial and successful of a generation of wheeler dealers flourishing in London casino atmosphere of the 1960s and 1970s.

There was nothing flash or flamboyant about the diminutive son of an exiled Iraqi family, who was born in Manchester in 1923 and died at the weekend. He has left that to nine children seven of them daughters how much is a hermes handbag in a family that has embraced careers in fashion, films, property and gossip, and had Sir Mick Jagger as a godfather.

Mr Dellal played the property game like the cards he handled in Mayfair clubland, with a mixture of bluff, coolness and more than a little cunning. He had the ability to emerge with his fortune intact and reputation enhanced from gyrations in volatile markets but had some near scrapes.

The first was the secondary banking crisis of 1973 74, where some argue he was the culprit behind the crisis that engulfed City bankers Keyser Ullman and resulted in Sir Edward du Cann, chairman and Tory grandee being declared bankrupt.

Keyser was saved by the launched by the Bank of England to avoid the secondary banking debacle turning into a financial rout. Over borrowed property developers were caught out by the explosion in oil prices, inflation and the crash in values. The secondary banks that opened their purses for them, London and County and Sterling Industrial Securities, for example, were among the casualties.

Black Jack came up smiling. He had sold his bank, Dalton Barton, to Keyser Ullman for 58m just before the crash and escaped from the crisis almost unscathed. His position as Keyser deputy chairman meant he had an inside track on the turmoil while his other businesses continued to borrow from the bank.

The second scrape involved the sale of Bush House, until recently home of the BBC World Service in London, to Kato Kagaku, a Japanese group. Mr Dellal bought the property in 1987 for 55m and sold it two years later Different hermes bag fake for 130m. Complaints to the Department of Trade and Industry about the deal led to an official investigation, but at the end of the day Black Jack was given a clean bill of health.

Mr Dellal prospered in the property market at a time when opportunity and flair were the hallmarks of success and failure and was able to outmanoeuvre the big battalions

Sir John Ritblat, former chairman of British Land, found him a shrewd operator. was involved in a number of transactions with him. He was a long term investor and had the ability to take advantage of an upturn in the market.

Mr Dellal had his business grounding in Manchester in the textile business, where property developer Vincent Tchenguiz feels he was known as Jack because he sold black material.

From textiles to property and banking and London was an enormous leap for an ambitious kid from the provinces. He wasted little time in moving into property after benefiting from Keyser generosity, setting up Allied Commercial and starting a 40 year association with Stanley van Gelder in 1974.

Mr Dellal kept himself out of the headlines and managed to keep the wealth analysts guessing about whether he was a billionaire or just a millionaire.

Gerald Ronson, chief executive of Heron International, benefited from his advice. He said: was always a man of his word and when you shook hands with him you had a deal.

was very charitable and very generous. He certainly helped to set up a number of people in business.

He grew in stature as he charted his way through successive cycles in the property market and was described as an money making machine by one enthusiast and a genius by another. Others found him an enigmatic survivor.

Bush House may have been his most spectacular deal, while the sale of Shell Mex fake hermes leather handbags House in the Strand, London, showed he was a team player. A group comprising Black Jack, David and Simon Reuben and Vincent and Robert Tchenguiz shared a profit of 150m when they disposed of the building in 2007.

He helped the early property education of the Tchenguiz brothers. Vincent Tchenguiz said: was very helpful and we did some deals with him. He was a great guy but imitiaton hermes bags we found we could beat him at cards.

Novel life support used as bridge to lung transplant for patient

Medical experts took a new but calculated risk when they put Willie Dalagan on a novel form of life support for two weeks while he waited in the intensive care unit at Vancouver General Hospital for a lung transplant. to be placed on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) while waiting for his June 7 transplant.

While ECMO is typically used in dire emergencies, on patients with failing hearts or lungs, VGH doctors decided to use it in a novel way, as a bridge to lung transplantation. They were hopeful that a new set of lungs would materialize soon enough that he wouldn have to linger on the equipment.

was our first planned ECMO. It bought us time to find a suitable donor, said Dr. Robert Levy, medical director of the Lung Transplant Program at the British Columbia Transplant Society. was an unusual situation because apart from his rapidly failing lungs, replica hermes handbags Willie had no other health issues. He was in great physical shape, so he was a good candidate for ECMO. While outside the body, hemoglobin is fully saturated with oxygen and carbon dioxide is removed.

In research studies, traditional mechanical ventilation life support systems are associated with poorer outcomes in patients waiting for transplant. But ECMO, used on patients who are awake and somewhat mobile, as Dalagan was, can have better odds of survival and fewer complications.

A physically fit, non smoking father of three children aged 14, 11 and 8, whose disease struck out of the blue, Dalagan developed shortness of breath and a dry cough in 2013 while working for a construction company on a new art gallery in Saskatoon. Doctors there suspected his lungs were being irritated by dust. Dalagan and his family moved back to Vancouver when his condition worsened.

A respirologist at VGH gave him the diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. With his scarred, shrinking lungs looking like grossly overcooked barbecue meat, he was told he was a candidate for transplant surgery.

In mid May, Dalagan, an architect who moved to Vancouver from the Philippines nearly 20 years ago, was admitted to VGH. He told his wife Michelle to prepare their children for anything.

was sad for them to see me in the hospital in this kind of condition but I told my wife we can protect them forever. They have to know the reality of life, he said.

was preparing for that too. But I just thought to myself, if this ECMO they were planning gives me five more minutes of life, I will treasure every second with my wife and kids, he added tearfully.

Dalagan said he knew ECMO complications include trauma to major veins, blood clots or hemorrhage.

was stressful knowing that something could go wrong, but how much is a hermes birkin handbags I put my faith in God. The family is convinced that the prayers of thousands were answered when donor lungs became available, and the surgery successful. but the Dalagans said they not supposed to make contact with the family of the deceased for three years.

Discharged just a month replica how much is a hermes handbag after the seven hour operation led by transplant surgeon Dr. John Yee, Dalagan, 44, said doctors have told him he had a remarkably smooth recovery so far.

Dr. Gord Finlayson, an intensive care specialist at VGH, said ECMO worked well at providing physiological support to Dalagan while he waited for new lungs.

not something that everyone on the transplant organ waiting list can benefit from Not patients whose health has deteriorated to the point that they have multi organ disease. can offer ECMO in life support emergencies, there is increasing debate and discussion about the importance of establishing centres of excellence because success rates improve at hospitals where it is used replica hermes handbags outlet more. epaper, Digital Access, Subscriber Rewards), please input your Print Newspaper subscription phone number and postal code.
