He refused to room with a black teammate, van cleef flower copy necklace

In South African history, few images have told a story better than that of President Nelson Mandela celebrating South Africa's 1995 Rugby World Cup final victory with the victorious captain Francois Pienaar.

Minutes after the Springboks had beaten the All Blacks, a beaming Mandela, clad in a Springbok jersey, held one handle of the William Webb Ellis trophy and the other was gripped by the muscular, blond haired Pienaar, looking the epitome of the ultimate Afrikaner warrior.

It was a masterstroke from Mr Mandela, the ultimate gesture of reconciliation towards the white people who had imprisoned him for 27 years because he dared to fight the evils of apartheid.

"The Rainbow Nation has been born," Mr Mandela proclaimed to the rapturous applause of a 75 000 crowd that mostly comprised white Afrikaans males. "This is the dawn of a new era for all South Africans," he added.

How was wrong. That much celebrated dawn vanished almost as soon as the words were out of his mouth. A series of racist rugby incidents has slowly but surely whittled away at that goodwill, and yesterday the last vestiges of conciliation disappeared when the most blatantly racist incident so far rocked the pre Rugby World Cup Springbok training camp in Pretoria.

Geo Cronje, a towering giant of a man, refused to share a room with a black player, Quinton Davids. Cronje told teammates he did not wish to share ablution facilities with him. Cronje was unceremoniously ejected from the Springbok camp and he will take on instant pariah status in South Africa and international rugby.

The 6ft 6in 19st Cronje has an anachronistic appearance; he sports a ragged, bushy red beard that gives him the look of a Boer War general. Sadly, his views on race seem to be from a similar time period. They have no chance. Red Adair would have no chance damping this blaze. The South African people have had enough. In the apartheid days, Afrikaners unashamedly used rugby as the ultimate symbol of their superiority. And there has been mounting evidence since 1995 that attitudes have not changed.

Less than a year after the World Cup victory, controversy raged when Springbok coach Andre Markgraaff selected one Henry Tromp. He and his father had recently been convicted of manslaughter. Their crime? They beat a farmworker to death. Many felt that Markgraaff had been insensitive in his selection of Tromp.

Later that year, the Boks played a match against Australia in Bloemfontein. To the horror of many, thousands of fans triumphantly waved the apartheid era national flag, an obvious symbol of oppression. During the ensuing race row, captain Pienaar poured petrol on the flames when he publicly stated fans were welcome to wave whatever flags they wished.

A year later, Markgraaff's troubled reign ended in dramatic, soap opera style. A discontented player, armed with a hidden tape recorder, asked for an audience with the coach and enticed him to make racist comments. The player, Andre Bester, leaked the tape to the media. National television audiences heard Markgraaff calling a senior rugby administrator, Mluleki George, a kaffir, the ultimate insult to black South Africans, and he said SA rugby's problems were "the fault of the kaffirs". Markgraaff resigned in tears.

The growing well of bitterness towards "white rugby" overflowed in 1998 when the Minister of Sport, Steve Tswete, launched a commission of inquiry into allegations of racism and financial mismanagement in rugby. The then president of the South African Rugby Football Union, Louis Luyt, ensured Mr Mandela was brought to court to give evidence. Mr Mandela was in the witness box for five hours, a far cry from the emotional time on the winners podium at Ellis Park.

As a consequence of the inquiry, formal race quotas were introduced at all levels of South Africa rugby. By law, each team has to field a certain number of black players. In 1999, fears among blacks that white attitudes had not changed were confirmed when Springbok prop Toks van der Linde was sent home in disgrace from New Zealand because he had called a black woman a "kaffir".

The year after, black attitudes hardened further when it was learned two provincial teams, the Lions (from Johannesburg) and the Bulls (Pretoria) had been fined for breaching quota regulations. They had insulted their black players by asking them to feign injuries early in matches so they could be replaced by whites.

It had been increasingly evident that attitudes amongst many whites had changed not a jot from apartheid days. This was sensationally confirmed last year when a popular former Springbok, Chester Williams, released his autobiography. Williams claimed racism was rampant in South African rugby and he had regularly been racially abused by teammates and provincial opposition players.

He said: "During the 1995 World Cup, the slogan was, 'One team one country'. That was a myth." Williams said his Bok teammate, James Small, had called him a kaffir but otherwise refused to speak him.

This apparent refusal to move with the times has manifested itself in other areas of the game. The discipline of South Africa's rugby players is the worst in the world. The Boks have had twice as many red and yellow cards as any of their opponents. More South African players have tested positive for banned substances than any other country.

This ill discipline showed at Twickenham last November when England coach Clive Woodward launched a scathing post match attack on the Boks, describing their constant foul play as a disgrace. Woodward sang the same tune in July when he backed Australia coach Eddie Jones who claimed the Boks had engaged in dirty play from first whistle until last of their match in Brisbane.

One player was consequently banned after being found guilty of eye gouging, another was suspended because of a dangerous tackle that resulted in an Australian being stretchered from the field.

The image of South African rugby is at an all time low. But the players are not always at fault. Last year, a drunken spectator hurdled a fence at Durban's King Park Stadium, ran on to the field, and heavily tackled the referee, van cleef replica necklace wholesale, David McHugh, who was was taken to hospital with a shoulder injury.

Which brings us to the present. Yesterday, shortly before the Cronje drama, coach Straeuli was dealing with an off the field incident involving one of his players, Lukas van Biljon. A week ago, Van Biljon was in a nightclub brawl that resulted in three teenagers laying a charge of assault against him. Two months ago, the same player was heavily disciplined for a similar offence, a brawl in a pub. He later trashed his hotel room.

In short, there appears to be something badly rotten in the land of the Springbok. When they emerged from isolation in 1992,van cleef fake alhambra necklace, the Boks had the proudest record in the world, better even than the mighty All Blacks. But since then their performances have rapidly declined. Now the only record they are setting are record defeats.

Many would say they are getting what they deserve, that their on field performances are symptomatic of the greater ills pervading the game in this country.

Going Under The 'Boardwalk' With Michael Shannon, van cleef style necklace replica

Buscemi's co star, van cleef mother of pearl clover necklace replica, Michael Shannon, tells Terry Gross that when he signed up to play the righteous federal agent Nelson Van Alden, he didn't know his character would succumb to the temptations of Atlantic City and so quickly. In the show's first season, Van Alden cheated, lied and even drowned a fellow federal agent.

"I do believe he ultimately has good intentions, and he wants to do the right thing and he goes to Atlantic City believing that he can do some good in the world," Shannon tells Fresh Air's Terry Gross. "[But] he also is surrounded by people thwarting him at every turn, so that act of drowning [his fellow agent] is the culmination of a great deal of frustration."

Shannon explains that before portraying Van Alden, he created a back story for the character in his head. He imagines that Van Alden grew up in a very strict household where he was told to never slouch and to sit up straight.

"That is the seed of what grows into the adult Van Alden, van cleef four leaf clover necklace replica," he says. "But he's a sad character. . I think it is a Frankenstein scenario in a way, because I think inside of Van Alden is a child that arrested child that never really got to develop its own identity. I think as much as he believes that he's operating from these deeply held beliefs, he's actually in a way very hollow."

Interview Highlights On Atlantic City

"Terence Winter [the show's creator] did mention that one of the themes of the show was going to be how Atlantic City can corrupt people like the snake in the Garden [of Eden], and how everybody in the story was going to have trials and tribulations from being in Atlantic City."

On religious people

"I've known a lot of religious people. My mother is very religious, but she also is very private about it. When I was growing up, she never went to church. She just prayed and read her Bible and kept it to herself. I'm not from a background of flamboyant believers. It's much more a personal issue. But it's very important for me not to judge Van Alden or to judge people in general. When you're an actor, it can be a hindrance if you look askance at people."

On his role in the thriller Take Shelter

"It was easy because it made sense to me. I think even though, in the film, sweet alhambra necklace replica, with these nightmares and these visions [that my character has], they're obviously exaggerated beyond what most people experience. But I do think they're reflective of a general feeling that people can relate to of feeling frightened and powerless and wondering what the heck is going to happen next."

On his role in the next Superman movie

"I'm an alien, which is weird because it's hard to research being an alien and what it's like to be on Krypton."

On his role in Revolutionary Road

"I really drew 99 percent of my inspiration from the book, Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates. It's a phenomenal piece of literature. . I felt like as long as I held on to what inspired me about the book, that I'd be good to go."

arrived in San Francisco four months ago in a van. He brought his son Christopher, 6, and daughter Charley, 2, and little else.

Anxious to find a place to live and a way to support the kids, the 27 year old who lost his job repairing foreclosed homes on the East Coast hadn't made health care a priority for his family until Wednesday.

Joslyn rushed his children from a homeless shelter in the Tenderloin to a free health clinic that was set up in the Mission to see needy patients for two days.

"I saw the flyer and I just came," he said.

Joslyn was among hundreds who lined up in the early morning hours some had gathered since noon the previous day to see a doctor at the Bridges to Health clinic, which moves to Oakland Friday.

They complained of high blood pressure, toothaches, back pain and a host of other problems that they had not been able to afford treating. They arrived even in a city of means that works hard to care for its poor, and at a time in which federal health care reforms have made medical coverage more accessible.

"Even if you have insurance, a lot of plans don't cover certain services," said , an obstetrician gynecologist from Ridgecrest (Kern County) and one of the organizers of this week's event.

The free clinic, one of the largest of its kind in years, is put on by a program within the Seventh day . The goal is to provide medical care where it's still needed.

More than 500 doctors and their assistants from across the country were on hand at the old San Francisco armory.

Waiting for care

On Wednesday morning, Joslyn's son was cleared by one of the pediatricians to have two cavities filled. His daughter, who recently had a diaper rash, was waiting to see a doctor. Joslyn, too, hoped to get a dental exam.

"San Francisco's been a good place to start anew," he said.

Mission resident , 41, wanted to have her deteriorating vision checked. She lost her private insurance two years ago after she left a job as an administrative assistant at a law firm.

"I'm nearsighted, but I've never had blurred vision, van cleef rose gold necklace replica," she said.

Long lines awaited her at the optometry station. opening. More than 1,000 people were expected to receive care by the end of the day.

Help for teeth, eyes

Dental and vision care were by far the most sought after treatments. According to experts, the services frequently aren't covered by both private and public health care plans, even as President Obama's Affordable Care Act seeks to expand all types of coverage for Americans.

People can purchase eye and dental coverage on their own, but the cost can be prohibitive.

"The Affordable Care Act provides a lot of help, but it may not be enough for everybody," said , executive director for the consumer advocacy group Health Access California.

Close to half of the 6 million California residents who did not have insurance before the Affordable Care Act rolled out have since gotten coverage, Wright said. It's a good number but one that will improve with time, he said.

One person not getting much help from the federal health care law is , 63,van cleef mini necklace replica, who lost his job as a software trainer and was seeking attention for foot problems Wednesday.

GM Fires UAW Official Opposed to 'Team Concept'

General Motors has fired Peter Z. Beltran, the controversial official of United Auto Workers Local 645 who contested the Japanese style work rules installed at the company's Van Nuys plant a year ago.

GM also dismissed Michael Velasquez, bracelet fake alhambra van cleef, the local's vice president and second in command.

Union officials said the company accused the two of lying about why Beltran, the local's shop chairman and No. 3 official, was absent from work 38 days last year. GM said the action was intended to defraud the company of money and benefits.

Both Beltran and Velasquez, who were fired April 21, were full time union representatives but were paid by GM. The two filed a grievance with GM protesting the terminations, and Velasquez charged that the action was a reprisal by the company for recent union activities.

GM alleges that Beltran, 48, and Velasquez, 51,van cleef and arpels bracelet fake alhambra, lied in a Feb. 23 letter to company executives when they claimed that Beltran was away from work for the 38 days to take care of union business. Velasquez sent the letter after Beltran was faced with losing some of his employment benefits because of his absences.

Several top leaders of Local 645 including Beltran receive waivers for missed days if they are out on union related business.

GM conducted an investigation, according to Velasquez, and determined that Beltran wasn't working for the union on the days in question. GM sent Velasquez who signed the letter excusing Beltran a termination notice explaining its position.

"This letter would have had the effect of removing Pete Beltran from the attendance control procedure, thereby preventing a reduction in his benefits, unjustly increasing his compensation and reducing the possibility of his forfeiture of employment," the company wrote. "Acting with Mr. Beltran, you knowingly attempted to derive monies and benefits for him to which he was not entitled."

Velasquez, in an interview, denied the charges and steadfastly said Beltran was absent because of union work. "All of those dates we can pretty well document," he said. He said Beltran was either attending union conferences or doing paper work.

Beltran was not available for comment Tuesday, and GM officials declined to discuss the matter.

Cushion Unit an Issue

Velasquez a 31 year veteran of the Van Nuys plant earned about $26,van cleef knock off clover bracelet,000 annually. Beltran, whose pay was not disclosed, was on GM's payroll for about 30 years.

The firings have aggravated continuing tensions between Beltran supporters and the company. Beltran has opposed a Japanese style production system called team concept used at GM's Van Nuys plant. The company says team concept, adopted after being narrowly approved by the local's membership, encourages worker management cooperation and improves the quality of cars made at the plant. Beltran contends the method is merely an excuse to cut jobs and overwork employees.

Velasquez claims GM fired Beltran and him because they were working on a plan to stop the company from moving the production of seat cushions to another facility, a move that union officials say the company is considering. The union claims closing the cushion making operation would eliminate 120 jobs at the Van Nuys plant, which produces Pontiac Firebirds and Chevrolet Camaros.

"I think our terminations were contrived by local management because we were tying to stop the outsourcing of work at the plant," said Velasquez. "Pete pretty well put the company on notice that he would go to the membership and seek ways to stop them. He didn't rule out the possibility of a strike."

Under the UAW contract, workers absent more than 20% of their scheduled work days face reductions in such benefits as vacation pay and holiday pay. Workers refer to the clause as the 20% club.

"GM was taking the position I had contrived a scheme with Mr. Beltran to keep him from the 20% club," said Velasquez. "Obviously, van cleef arpels alhambra fake bracelet, we denied it."

This isn't the first time Beltran's absences have created a stir. In a November interview, Beltran said he had not shown up for work at least 40% of the time since being elected shop chairman five months earlier. He blamed his absences on a serious illness that he declined to specify.

At the time, the UAW local's president, Jerry Shrieves, said many Van Nuys GM workers had become dissatisfied with Beltran. "There is a lot of unrest in there because of his absences," Shrieves said. He said that Beltran "has let down a lot of people who elected him." Shrieves was unavailable for comment Tuesday.

Donald Trump supporter wants to burn a black man alive

Donald Trump and his supporters are a mirror for the worst part of the right wing political id,sweet alhambra knock off bracelet.

, Donald Trump supporters assailed Black Lives Matter protesters. While security forcibly removed the protesters from the event, Donald Trump's supporters were reportedly heard shouting racial slurs. One of Trump's most enthusiastic backers was even heard yelling that one of the protesters, an African American man, should be burned alive:

Donald Trump held a rally Monday night in Las Vegas a day before the Republican presidential candidates are set to appear on stage for the final GOP debate of the year.

During the rally, multiple protesters attempting to interrupt the candidate's speech were escorted out of the Westgate Las Vegas Resort.

This is not the first time that either actual physical violence or violent rhetoric has been used at Donald Trump rallies. Several weeks ago, a black protester in Alabama was beaten on by Donald Trump supporters and reportedly called racial slurs. At other events, Donald Trump's supporters have attacked protesters who were voicing their concerns about his anti immigrant screeds towards Hispanics and Latinos. Trump supporters also attacked a homeless person because they thought he was an "illegal immigrant."

Donald Trump describes his public as "passionate" and high energy. He urges on their violence with statements such as "maybe heshould have beenroughedup."

Trump does not condemn the violence; the thuggery of his supporters is a type of barometer and life blood for his effectiveness as a proto fascist demagogue. The right wing media is largely mute on Trump's antics. They have circulated and ginned up violence be it domestic terrorism and/or thuggery by Trump supporters for years. To forcibly and enthusiastically condemn it now would be a betrayal of how the Fox News media and its propagandists have weaponized their public and created the drumbeat for stochastic right wing domestic terrorism.

When Donald Trump supporters, the overwhelming majority of whom are white (except for the black and brown human props that are trotted out to give cover for his racism), yell racial slurs at black American protesters, or in a spine chilling tone offer up a fantasy of "light the motherfucker on fire," such moments are outside of the boundaries of normal political speech.

The United States has a deep, dark, and ugly history of burning black Americans alive. Those wicked acts are one of the few examples where America is truly exceptional few if any other countries have a tradition of what historians and others have termed the "spectacular lynching."

Thousands of black Americans were lynched in the United States between the postbellum period and through to the middle of the twentieth century. The last "traditional" lynching of a black person in the United States took place in 1981,van cleef replica bracelet.

There have been other types of "lynchings" in recent years too. These include the dragging to death of James Byrd Jr., the extrajudicial killings of black people by white vigilantes such as George Zimmerman, van cleef clover replica bracelet, and the shooting to death by cop committed by Darren Wilson in Ferguson and Jason Van Dyke in Chicago.

The victims of White America's spectacular lynching culture have names.

They were Claude Neal, Samuel Hose, Elijah Strickland, and Emmett Till.

The names of many other black victims of white mob violence were lost to the historical record. But their pain and stories are remembered by the families, friends, community, and descendants they left behind.

For example, Samuel Hose (alias Samuel Holt), killed in a morebrutal manner than ISIS terrorists do to their human prey, was tortured by white Christians in Georgia. Witnesses described his murder in the following way:

Sam Holt burned at the stake in a public road Before the torch was applied to the pyre, the Negro was deprived of his ears, fingers, sweet fake alhambra bracelet, and other portions of his body Before the body was cool, it was cut to pieces, the bones were crushed into small bits, and even the tree upon which the wretch met his fate were torn up and disposed of as souvenirs. The Negro heart was cut in small pieces, as was also his liver. Those unable to obtain the ghastly relics directly paid more fortunate possessors extravagant sums for them. Small pieces of bone went for 25 cents and a bit of liver, crisply cooked, for 10 cents.

The savage murder of Claude Neal involved unimaginable barbarism and sadism:

By the time Friday evening came around, a large crowd of several thousand people had gathered outside the Cannidy farm to observe and participate in the lynching. But the size of the mob began to make the men holding Neal nervous. So the Committee of Six, as the group called itself, decided to take him to another location where they would have better control over how the lynching was carried out.

According to eyewitness accounts and newspaper reports, it was a drawn out and torturous process. Soon after arriving at the chosen spot, Neal was castrated. His torso was cut and stabbed with knives and sticks. His fingers and toes were cut off and the remainder of his body burned with hot irons. One newspaper account states there were 18 bullet holes in Neal chest, head and abdomen.

Neal body was then tied to the rear of an automobile and dragged to the Cannidy farm, where women and children participated in the final acts of mutilation. The body was then hung from an oak tree on the courthouse lawn. Photos were taken and later sold for 50 cents a piece. Neal fingers and toes were reportedly exhibited as souvenirs.

The local sheriff cut the body down the following morning. A mob soon formed demanding that it be hung up again. The sheriff refused, the mob descended upon the courthouse. The mob then dispersed into the city streets and began attacking the remaining blacks in town.

It has been rumored that Claude Neal was even forced to eat his own penis by the white lynch mob.

When Trump's supporters yell "light the motherfucker on fire", hurl racial slurs, and beat up Black Lives Matter protesters they are invoking a wicked history of American white supremacy.

The 2016 Republican presidential primaries are one more reminder of how the GOP is the United States' largest white identity organization. Donald Trump is not an outlier or a blip. His popularity is the predictable result of a political party and media that uses white racial resentment, overt anti black and brown animus, nativism, sexism, xenophobia, and eliminationist rhetoric to mobilize its base.

Of course, Donald Trump, the right wing media, and conservative opinion leaders will, for the most part, deny and excuse make for the racism and increasing violence from his followers. The paranoid style will assert itself: the black and brown protesters attacked by Trump supporters are "agent provocateurs" designed to "undermine" and make "conservatives" look "racist". This is priceless irony. American conservatives demand "personal responsibility" and group accountability for every other group of people but themselves. In their deflections they prove, again, how contemporary conservatism is a movement typified by white victimology.

As such, every Muslim must apologize for ISIS and Al Qaeda. All black Americans must be held responsible for "black crime" and "the broken black family." Yet, (white) conservatives can hide behind the shield of "individualism". White privilege is many things. But, first and foremost, it is the freedom to never be held accountable for the actions of other white people.

In the weeks and months leading to the presidential election, Donald Trump's supporters will continue to escalate their rhetoric and violence. Donald Trump will smile. Republican elites will continue to act as though they are aghast and shocked at what is happening with their party and public. The Republican Party and the Fox News echo chamber made Donald Trump possible. They encouraged his supporters. They nurtured his lies. They fed the rage machine and conspiranoid fantasies of movement conservatives. Now they are reaping what they sowed. This chaos would be justice and righteous comeuppanceif the rest of the American people did not have to risk being collateral damage from the mess caused by the Republican Party's monsters.

Eddie Van Halen deconstructs his collaboration on 'Beat It'

Eddie Van Halen sits on a sofa in his home studio, smoking an electronic cigarette and reminiscing about the 30th anniversary of Michael Jackson's masterpiece album, "Thriller."

"It seems like yesterday, doesn't it," he says softly. "It would have been fun to work with him again."

Van Halen was a surprise guest on "Beat It," the album's third single. His blazing guitar solo lasted all of 20 seconds and took half an hour to record. He did it for free, as a favor to producer Quincy Jones, while the rest of his Van Halen bandmates were out of town.

"I said to myself, 'Who is going to know that I played on this kid's record, right? Nobody's going to find out.' Wrong!" he laughs. "Big time wrong. It ended up being Record of the Year."

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer recently revealed to CNN what went on behind the scenes of his iconic collaboration with the King of Pop.

CNN: When Quincy rang you up, you thought it was a crank call.

Eddie Van Halen: I went off on him. I went, "What do you want, you f ing so and so!" And he goes, "Is this Eddie?" I said, "Yeah, what the hell do you want?" "This is Quincy." I'm thinking to myself, "I don't know anyone named Quincy." He goes, "Quincy Jones, man." I went, "Ohhh, imitation van cleef & arpels pour homme, sorry!" (Laughs)

I asked, "What can I do for you?" And he said, "How would you like to come down and play on Michael Jackson's new record?" And I'm thinking to myself, "OK, 'ABC, 1,bijoux van cleef arpels replique, 2, 3' and me. How's that going to work?"

I still wasn't 100% sure it was him. I said, "I'll tell you what. I'll meet you at your studio tomorrow." And lo and behold, when I get there, there's Quincy, there's Michael Jackson and there's engineers. They're makin' records!

CNN: Did Quincy give you any direction about what he wanted you to do?

Van Halen: Michael left to go across the hall to do some children's speaking record. So I asked Quincy, "What do you want me to do?" And he goes, "Whatever you want to do." And I go, "Be careful when you say that. If you know anything about me, be careful when you say, "Do anything you want!"

I listened to the song, and I immediately go, "Can I change some parts?" I turned to the engineer and I go, "OK, from the breakdown, chop in this part, go to this piece, pre chorus, bijoux van cleef et arpels replique, to the chorus, out." Took him maybe 10 minutes to put it together. And I proceeded to improvise two solos over it.

I was just finishing the second solo when Michael walked in. And you know artists are kind of crazy people. We're all a little bit strange. I didn't know how he would react to what I was doing. So I warned him before he listened. I said, "Look, I changed the middle section of your song."

Now in my mind, he's either going to have his bodyguards kick me out for butchering his song, or he's going to like it. And so he gave it a listen, and he turned to me and went, "Wow, thank you so much for having the passion to not just come in and blaze a solo, but to actually care about the song, and make it better."

He was this musical genius with this childlike innocence. He was such a professional, and such a sweetheart.

CNN: That collaboration surprised a lot of people.

Van Halen: I'll never forget when Tower Records was still open over here in Sherman Oaks. I was buying something, and "Beat It" was playing over the store sound system. The solo comes on, and I hear these kids in front of me going, "Listen to this guy trying to sound like Eddie Van Halen." I tapped him on the shoulder and said, "That IS me!" That was hilarious.

CNN: How did you explain to the guys in Van Halen what had happened?

Van Halen: I just said, "You know. (Shrugs) Busted!" "Dave, you were out of the country!" "Al,pour homme de van cleef & arpels replique, you weren't around!" I couldn't call anyone and ask for permission.

Unfortunately, "Thriller" kept our album, "1984," from going to No. 1. Our album was just about ready to go No. 1 when he burned his hair in that Pepsi commercial, if you remember that. And boom, he went straight to No. 1 again!
