So why didn't Sanchez use two hands? That was Mistake No. 3. Doing
everything possible to secure the ball, even if he remained anchored at
the plate, would’ve increased the odds of handling the bounce. Altuve
would’ve had no chance to otherwise dislodge the ball - Sanchez
would’ve been an immovable object. Out at the plate, and the Yankees
might’ve survived the scare.
Even after the game, Sanchez still seemed dazed by the damning play,
saying, “I will have to see a replay” to understand the Yankees’
unraveling. It went like this. With one out and Altuve on first after
smoking Aroldis Chapman’s 100-mph to left, Los Angeles Dodgers jerseys Carlos Correa launched a missile into the gap in right-center. Aaron Judge cut the ball off before it reached the wall and Chicago Cubs Jerseys
hit Gregorius with the cutoff. Judge made the right decision. “He threw
it to the guy on the field with the strongest arm,” said Joe Girardi.
In any other setting, Altuve might’ve held at third, but not on this
day. The game was too close, runs were scarce and this was the Astros’
best chance to finish off the Bombers. Gregorius said, “I had a feeling
(Altuve) was going” as he wheeled and fired to Sanchez.

Girardi’s assessment was dead-on. No one could’ve made a better throw
than Gregorius, which is why Correa affected a pop-up slide at second
that may or may not have gotten in the Yankees’ shortstop’s way. Girardi

argued that Correa made contact and should’ve been called for
interference. The umpires overruled Girardi and walked off the field.
The Astros, meanwhile, were going berserk all around the Yankees.
Gregorius agreed that Correa had bumped him but refused to alibi for the
short throw. “I’m not going to make an issue of it,” he said. Besides,
both he and Judge had done everything right. The ball was in Sanchez’s
glove with plenty of time to spare. Only, it popped out, as if there was
a spring in the webbing.

Altuve homers, Astros top White Sox 3-1 for 5th straight
Collin McHugh made his first start in 11 days and nailed it.
The right-hander pitched five steady innings in his return from a
detached fingernail, and the Houston Astros extended their winning
streak to five games Tuesday night with a 3-1 victory over the Chicago
White Sox.
Jose Altuve homered and Alex Bregman hit an RBI double for the AL West
champions. McHugh (3-2) allowed one run and five hits with five
strikeouts, an encouraging sign as the Astros prepare for the playoffs.
"He felt really good. He felt strong," Houston manager A.J. Hinch said.
"I thought McHugh threw the ball really well. I thought his pitch-making
ability was really good."
It was the right-hander's first outing since detaching a fingernail on
his pitching hand Sept. 8.
"Obviously when you're warming up it was the biggest thing for me,
making sure I wasn't feeling it, I wasn't compensating for my finger in
any way," McHugh said. "It was all good today. I didn't have any issues
and I didn't think about it when I was out there. Mentally getting over
that was probably the biggest part."
McHugh has made only 10 starts this season after also Houston Astros Jerseys missing time Los Angeles Dodgers jerseys
with a shoulder issue.
"Overall I think we did some good things," he said. "Made some pitches
when we needed to. I had a better curveball than I've had in Chicago Cubs Jerseys a while. Made a handful
of mistakes but for the most part I felt like I executed pitches really
well."
Will Harris, Luke Gregerson and Chris Devenski each threw a scoreless
inning before Ken Giles pitched the ninth for his 32nd save.
Altuve went the other way for his 24th home run, a solo shot to right
field in the fourth. Bregman knocked in Marwin Gonzalez later in the
inning to give the Astros a 2-1 lead.
George Springer made New York Yankees jerseys
it 3-1 in the eighth, just getting his fingertips on home plate and
avoiding Kevan Smith's tag. On the play, Altuve grounded out to third
and was thrown out at first, but Smith never tagged Springer after
taking the throw from first baseman Jose Abreu. After Springer was
initially called out, the play was reviewed and the call was overturned.

Dodgers place Cody Bellinger on the disabled list with sprained ankle
A sprained ankle appears to be the only thing that can slow Cody
Bellinger this year.
The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Bellinger, whose 34 home runs rank second
in the National League, on the disabled list Tuesday with what they
termed a mild right ankle sprain.
The DL stint almost certainly means Bellinger won't equal Mark McGwire's
rookie home run record of 49. His next home run will tie Mike Piazza
for the Dodgers rookie record, despite not making his major league debut
until April 25.
The Dodgers are running away with the NL West, with an 88-35 record,
and can certainly exercise caution with their 22-year-old first
baseman/outfielder.
