Gunung Kinabalu

Located near the Kinabalu National Park, the Gunung Kinabalu is the highest mountain in the country and also the third highest in Southeast Asia. Trekking on the picturesque Gunung Kinabalu is quite a challenging task and will usually take you two days to make the ascent and descent both. It is better if you book the climb through a local tour company. The Gunung Kinabalu is not recommended for beginners but it is popular among professional trekkers from all over the world. Some of the most popular climbing experts have rated Gunnung Kinabalu as one of the easiest big mountains that you can climb. The trail of climbing usually starts at Timpohon Gate, whichis one of the lesser,popular routes as well as longer and harder. Note that the starting point is already 1866 metres above sea level. There is no need for any special equipment that you need to carry. All that you need is just some reasonable level of fitness. Most people prefer to cover the stretch over a period of 2 days. You need to sign some declarations before you begin your climb and then you are taken in a bus to the gate of Timpohon. Your climb might consist of rough and uneven steps and it will get more uneven as well as cold when you go higher.

How to reach: Take a Bus. You can catch a bus from KK Kinabalu Park. There are buses at regular intervals and the first one leaves sharp at 7:30AM. A usual journey should take somewhere around two hours.
