The investigation into Donald Trump's Russia scandal is ongoing, but what we already know is rather breathtaking.
A foreign adversary attacked our election and helped elect its favored candidate. The president's claims that no one from his team was in contact with Russia during its attack have been discredited. The president fired the director van cleef and arpels necklace clover knock off of the FBI because of his dissatisfaction with the ongoing investigation. Before the firing, the president reportedly urged the FBI director to go easy on his disgraced former national security advisor, who remains at the center of the controversy, and who's already pleaded the Fifth.
This week, we learned Trump also reportedly urged the director of national intelligence and the director the National Security Administration to publicly comment on the ongoing federal investigation, while White House officials "sounded out top intelligence officials about the possibility of intervening directly" with the then FBI director in order to "encourage the FBI to drop its probe of Michael Flynn." Yesterday, the former director of the CIA pointed to "contacts and interactions" between Russia and the Trump campaign that he found alarming, despite Trump's assurances that no such communications occurred.
To borrow a clich, we've worked our way through the smoke and arrived at some fire. Standing above the flame is a sitting president who seems eager to boast, "Look at this yuge fire I set. Isn't it tremendous?"
Under the circumstances, the question isn't whether Trump has put his presidency in jeopardy; it's what more congressional Republicans need to see before they agree it's time for Trump's term to meet a premature end. As of yesterday, GOP lawmakers, who are well aware of each of the aforementioned details, effectively said they're not yet close to the threshold. Mother Jones' David Corn reported:
The Republicans still are not serious about investigating the Trump Russia scandal. That message came through resoundingly when the House Intelligence Committee held a public hearing on Tuesday morning with former CIA chief John Brennan. [.]
Yet once again Republicans did not focus on the main elements of the story. When the Republicans on the committee had the chance to question Brennan, they did not press him for more details on Russia's information warfare against the United States. Instead, they fixated on protecting Trump.
At the hearing, one House Republican, Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R Ohio), sincerely tried to push the line that Russia actually used President Obama, not Trump, as a tool.
Today's installment of campaign related news items from across the country.
For the first time this year, Democrats flipped a Republican seat in a legislative special election, narrowly winning a GOP seat yesterday in New Hampshire's state House.
On a related note, about an hour later, we learned that Democrats also flipped a Republican seat in a New York special election, unexpectedly winning a state legislative seat on Long Island that voted heavily for Donald Trump in November.
Montana's congressional special election is tomorrow, and Vice President Mike Pence has recorded a robo call for Republicans in support of Greg Gianforte.
Reflecting on the special election races, DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Lujn told reporters yesterday that the party faces "a tough road in Montana," though Rob Quist "continues to run a strong, Montana focused campaign." Moments later, Lujan announced a $2 million investment in support of Jon Ossoff's campaign in Georgia.
Despite the popularity of Maine's ranked choice voting system better known as instant runoff balloting the state Supreme Court yesterday unanimously struck down the voter approved policy.
Undeterred by Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker's (R) approval ratings, Newton Mayor Setti Warren (D), an Iraq War veteran, launched his 2018 gubernatorial campaign the other day.
One of the most glaring problems with Donald Trump's new budget plan is that its architects are bad at arithmetic. Politico's Michael Grunwald explained:
Budget proposals always involve some guesswork into the unknowable, and administrations routinely massage numbers to their political advantage. But this proposal is unusually brazen in its defiance of basic math, and in its accounting discrepancies amounting to trillions with a t rather than mere millions or billions. [.]
Trump critics in the budget wonk world are pointing to another $2 trillion of red ink as a blatant math error or, less charitably, as an Enron style accounting fraud.
Budget fights can admittedly get a little wonky, but this one's pretty straightforward: Trump's White House unveiled a budget plan that double counts $2 trillion. The president and his right wing budget director, House Freedom Caucus co founder Mick Mulvaney, specifically counts on $2 trillion in revenue to eliminate the deficit that the administration also devotes to paying for Trump's tax cuts.
Harvard economist Lawrence Summers, the former Treasury secretary and National Economic Council director in the previous two Democratic administrations, wrote in the Washington Post that this represents "the most egregious accounting error in a presidential budget in the nearly 40 years van cleef replica alhambra necklace I have been tracking them." Summers added that the mistake is "a logical error of the kind that would justify failing a student in an introductory economics course."
And while this is certainly a discouraging development for those hoping the White House is capable of rudimentary governmental competence $2 vca necklace knock off trillion isn't exactly a rounding error what makes this especially fascinating to me is what Trump World is saying now that "the mystery money" problem has been exposed.
Rep. Now he's facing the consequences.
The backlash in MacArthur's home state of New Jersey has already been harsh the American Health Care Act's impact on the Garden State is especially brutal and yesterday, the GOP lawmaker parted ways with the Capitol Hill caucus he'd been tasked with leading. Politico was the first to report on MacArthur's departure from the Tuesday Group.
Rep. Tom MacArthur resigned Tuesday as co chairman of the caucus of GOP moderates known as the Tuesday Group in the wake of deep divisions among its members over the House Obamacare replacement bill he helped craft.
"You can't lead people where they don't want to go," MacArthur said Tuesday morning in an interview with POLITICO New Jersey. "I think some people in the group just have a different view of what governing is."
MacArthur, who announced his resignation during the group's regular gathering yesterday after just five months at the helm, conceded that the Tuesday Group "is divided."

Salvos commander Brendan Nottle is Melburnian of the Year
The team is the 23 workers and 1000 volunteers who operate out of the Salvation Army's city base at the Parliament end of Bourke Street essentially a mission to the many disadvantaged and troubled, the often forgotten citizens of the world's most liveable city.
At the helm is Major Nottle, working closely with his wife, Sandra, providing unseen but vital help to those in need. For the homeless, it is a safe and secure place to stay, or a hot meal. Or in the early hours of Saturday or Sunday, help for a young person whose night has gone wrong and is suddenly vulnerable.
He is, of course, much more than the person in charge. The 49 year old father of three is invariably on streets himself, or staffing the Outreach Van providing meals. He often does this on only a few hours' sleep.
''I'm not sure if it's an illness that I have or something that causes me to get out of bed and be out on the streets,'' he jokes. ''One of the drivers for me is I actually love Melbourne Some of the work that we do actually helps make the city a better place for all.''
At the Town Hall on Saturday night, Lord Mayor Robert Doyle presented the award, describing Major Nottle's devotion to strengthening Melbourne's social fabric as inspirational.
Major Nottle tells his team that they are in the business of saving lives in the depths of winter, for example, getting a homeless person with a mental illness into hospital, or safe, clean accommodation.
Winter also means that he is working as the chaplain for the Collingwood Football Club. ''I started to look at the whole game from a different perspective,'' he says. ''When you're on the inside and start to hear the stories of particularly some of the younger players and you know some of the battles that they're having, you really desperately want them to succeed.''
He goes on the ground before the game and kicks the ball as the players warm up. It helps them relax. ''Nathan Buckley said to me once, do you wear moccasins when you kick the football? That's how bad my kicking was.''
But he also exposes the players to another world. At least once a week, Collingwood players will be out on the Outreach Van with him where he gets to know replica van cleef necklace alhambra them better.
He tells them they can use their influence and celebrity to make a difference. A great example involves former AFL players Paul Licuria, Joel Bowden and Mark Bolton, who were helping out on the van when they encountered a homeless boy.
They were jolted into action, creating the Ladder project, van cleef flower replica necklace which operates a youth refuge in Richmond, with AFL players mentoring young people.
Ask him to reflect on our compassion as a city and he offers the example of young people late at night helping out other young people who are strangers to them. Or the man who shoved $50 into his hand one night recently. He had his wife had been out for an anniversary dinner, and the meal was terrible. The $50 was his ''fine'' for getting the night wrong.
But Major Nottle also offers some advice. We are a well off city and country, but he still hears complaints in the media and hears people say that they are not getting enough. ''I just think we always have to keep coming back and reminding people that if we want to be regarded as an effective community, then we need to be looking out for each other, particularly the most vulnerable.
''I think that needs to be a key determinant about whether we are a healthy community or not. Not what the economic indicators suggest, it's about how we're treating replica van arpels and cleef necklace each other.''

Allo stesso tempo, guarderemo in giro.'
(Foto di Ricky Carioti / The Washington Post)
Allo stesso tempo, guarderemo in giro.'
(Foto di Ricky Carioti / The Washington Post)

Sticks and Stones
In my GretaWire "Talking Points Memo," I thought I might write about my colleague, Bill O'Reilly. Wednesday night he called me a "pinhead" on the air. I thought it was funny and I have been called worse things by my brother and sister over the years. Over the years I have been called lots of things and posted lots of e mails on this blog with peoples' views of me that are not flattering, but this is the first time I have been called a "pinhead" on the air, around the world, in primetime. You could tell Bill thought it was funny, too. He laughed as he said it. Next time maybe "knucklehead?" I will suggest it to him and, OK, if you want, send me your suggestions I might post them.
Since I have promised behind the scenes including what happens in the lead up to our show Bernie came into the make up room last night and asked if he could take some printer paper from FOX and bring it home to his son. It was too late for him to run to a store and he said it was important. I said, "Sure," but wondered what was up. It turns out that Bernie, in preparing for the show last night and in printing research for the show, used up all his son's printer paper before he walked out the door. As Bernie left for the bureau to do the show, he learned the big problem from his son. His son had gone to the computer and discovered there was no paper and that he had been ambushed by his father. His son then pointed out I assume a bit frantically that his father had not only used up all the printer paper but that he needed paper to print his term paper on the Roman Empire due today. This was an emergency. We all know that and have all been there for those term paper due emergencies. Needless to say we were happy to give Bernie and his son the paper. We don't care. We just want justice, but a woman commits a crime and we try to figure out why they did what they did. Maybe they are just as evil as the men. Women want equality. Well, in my humble opinion they should have it in the justice system too.
Thanks for listening,Albany, NY
This is so disgusting and revolting! Does this mean that every suspected criminal is going to plead innocent by reason of being bipolar? Give me a break! Pleeeeeeeeeez! Was the man that assaulted me 35 years ago bi polar? We hadn't even heard the word then, so is he now thinking to himself, "I did it because I was bipolar? So, I am forgiven?" Give me a break! I now hold the prosecution and the victim's parent/parents most responsible for this injustice to society. After much news coverage of this, I have come to the conclusion that maybe the parent did not want it revealed that it might have been thought of as a notch in the belt buckle of the teen boy by the teen boy. Also, that maybe the parent/parents did not want the publicity, etc., to affect their so called place in life/society. It has been proven by the medical profession that a victim facing his/her attacker is a most effective form of treatment and getting past and over trauma than sweeping it under the carpet. I hope when this victim is of age, and can make decisions for himself, we hear from him the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
That so called woman, who is no woman in my book, needs to be strung up and hung out to dry replica van cleef & arpels bracelet up just like any other sexual assault offender of anyone of any age.
So, here's to you Mrs. Robinson: I think we don't know the full details of the situation to make judgments of any kind. I have no doubt van cleef bracelet fake the sex was consensual and I do not believe the boy suffered any damage except maybe to his ego from his buddies because the media found out. As a parent of two girls, I would have been glad my son was not having sex with 14 year old girls. My grandmother was married at 15, my grandfather was 30. They loved each other very much and had a wonderful life. Girls and boys are wired differently it is a fact. My husband wishes he had her for a teacher when he was that age! Ha ha! Her looks and personality probably did play a part in this, but I disagree that she would have gotten different treatment if she was ugly and fat because if she had not been attractive, there would have been more cause to believe the boy/young man was not a willing participant and could have been physically overpowered. I remember being that age myself and would not have welcomed any advances by older male teachers. It is my opinion that this is not a double standard, it is just human nature for boys to be more curious than girls and have less emotional fallout from casual sex. I am not condoning her behavior by any means I just think the case got way too much attention for something that should have remained a private matter. Double standard? Perhaps. As the mother of a 15 year old son, I have listened to him talking bracelet knock off van cleef about how lucky the kid was who got to have sex with that "hottie teacher." But I have also had to watch him go through the pain and emotional suffering of having been smitten with a teenager drama queen who, on a bi weekly basis, dumps him, and then tells him she'll kill herself if he leaves her, I'm not so sure that having sex with a 20 something adult woman wouldn't be better.
Also, looking back on my own teenage crushes on male teachers, I am relatively certain that I would not have been damaged for life by having sex with one of my teachers. In fact, I dreamed about it often! I think maybe as a society we should come to better terms with our sexuality. I don't think that woman is a pedophile; I don't think 20 something male teachers having sex with female students are necessarily pedophiles. In many cases, the 20 somethings are just immature. Should they be teaching? No, probably not. But I certainly don't think they belong in prison either.

I was so happy to see that you were going to report on the LaFave case. I have watched many of the FOX people report on it and it has really, really irked me to no end. First, I have to say that Lafave is a pedophile and needs to be institutionalized because there will be another victim. she has no remorse or conscience. On the double standard outcry: rubbish! Double standards in gender is and has always been a predominate fact in this world. Since the beginning of time women have had to deal with double standards in sexuality, economics, military (they still discriminate), politics and every other area of life. Now, when men see sensationalized cases such as Lafave's case, they cry foul play and double standards. another double standard perhaps? I am ticked about the outcome, but against the double standard theory no. Look, even women have accepted this crap so much that they fall for it. I have heard several times women say to men and men say to men, "I can't believe you let a girl beat you" like it is some sort of tragedy for a woman to be good at something, have the ability to compete with a man like a woman is inferior. Just for the record, I am far from being a feminist and still hold onto my Christian values such as the man being the head of a family (not superior, but you can only have one person steering the car), but I feel no sympathy for this so called, "double standard."
Thanks for your coverage Greta
Oh my gosh, pretty girl goes free! Bipolar maybe, but very aware of her surroundings and just exactly what she did. Unfortunately, there are so many teenager boys who have that "heartthrob" feeling for their beautiful blue eyed, blonde haired teacher and why wouldn't they accept the offer to have a sexual relation if approached? They are human, naive and also their hormones are rapidly racing at that age. They can't say no with the wrong head, if you know what I mean. I am ashamed at the prosecuting attorney for letting this one slip. I'm sorry, her sickness isn't being Bipolar, it is her own infatuation with her beauty and her desire to be in control sexually of under aged men.
Hi
Well, for goodness sakes, everyone wants ol' to go to jail. My opinion comes from growing up in the 50s. Things were certainly more moral then and family oriented. I certainly don't remember any woman teacher doing such a thing, but the "boys" were really in love with our math teacher. She was a lady and I highly doubt if she did anything other than enjoy their adorations. However, I had a friend who was intimate with a man teacher. Thank goodness no one knew or dared to arrest him or her. It was their decisions. I think she was 17 years old. She is A OK today.

He will have his plate full of future cases for sure by the example he just set, but he will deserve every hard knock he gets from here on out!

The LinkedIn Groups Have Become Ghost Towns
The LinkedIn groups are the communal backbone of the site. Designed with engagement in mind, these interactive forums seek to bring like minded individuals together to expand their networks and their horizons. However, after a massive overhaul of the LinkedIn group platform in Q4 2015, engagement in the groups is way, way down. The sense of abandonment is palpable. Listen carefully and you can hear crickets chirping along with the gentle wisp of a tumbleweed rolling across a desolate digital plain.
On LinkedIn, the groups constitute a vast interactive space where members go to grow their networks, crowdsource new ideas, and express a point of view. Some communities are more vibrant and better managed than others. Yet as the site has evolved, the LinkedIn groups seem to have lost their luster, almost as if they have been forgotten. Many have dried up altogether, taking on the feel of a ghost town.
Whereas the LinkedIn groups remain an important piece of social networking strategy, the activities that support them are on the wane. Since October 14, 2015, when LinkedIn initiated a massive overhaul of its group interface, I have noted a significant drop off in group activity, both within my own groups and in those of many of my LinkedIn connections. Insightful contributions to group discussions, which are traditionally recorded on the home page, are few and far between. The interest is simply not there.
A large piece of this avoidance behavior can be attributed to the demands imposed on users by LinkedIn itself. The site has become increasingly complex, forcing many to relearn basic practices and continually integrate new site features and functions. As the size of user's networks increase, there is increasingly more information to process, and the groups can easily slip through the cracks of conscious awareness.
Gauging the Trajectory of LinkedIn Group Popularity
The growth of LinkedIn groups in numbers and in scope has been nothing short of phenomenal. As this post goes to press, there are in excess of 2 million groups. As an early adopter of LinkedIn, I still view the groups as viable channels through which one can increase connectivity, demonstrate thought leadership, and conduct valuable market research. However, it is difficult to achieve those objectives without the feedback of others.
Throughout the years, I have spent considerable time exploring the LinkedIn groups. I have rotated in and out of dozens of them, even managed a few. My inclination to initiate and participate in group discussions has always been strong. The liveliest exchanges, some of which went on for months, often gave fresh impetus to my blogging and brought scores of insightful professionals into my network. Yet today, as I scroll down the group discussion boards, I notice little if any play on the postings.
There seems to be a pervasive notion that, despite the best efforts by group owners and managers, the forum has devolved into a bottomless pit of shameless self promotion. Nowadays, the majority of submissions that make it to the discussion boards consist of nothing more than a URL to that person's blog post, latest media mention, lead capture page, or webinar registration site. People got turned off and left.
[To gauge the downward spiral of group activity, I casually surveyed the 65 LinkedIn groups to which I belong. I have retained membership in most of these groups for years. The preponderance of posts was self directed; seldom did I come across an actual question that was intended to spark a discussion. Few if any submissions garnered at least one "like" from other group members; almost none elicited more than one "like" or a comment.]
The Progressive Withdrawal from LinkedIn Groups
In January 2013, LinkedIn imposed internal controls on group posts and implemented what came to be called by users as the SWAM (Site Wide Automatic Moderation) policy. As hinted by the acronym, any LinkedIn group member who contributes content that is flagged or marked for moderation in one group will be subject to the same treatment in all other LinkedIn groups to which they belong. This move was met with disapproval from group members and moderators alike.
Eleven months later, with an eye toward increasing engagement in the groups, LinkedIn implemented a Top Contributor designation. This status was bestowed upon those members whose discussions elicited a high number of respondents and generated greater shelf lives. This was inherently a good strategy that incentivized participation while also measuring the collective value of an individual's contribution to the group. Top Contributors were given special mention on the group page, which enabled them to raise their profiles within the community.
However, with the proliferation of SWAM practices came a decline in LinkedIn group activity. Although seen as a means of purifying the group experience, the blocking or deleting of a member's content represented a level of restriction that was, by definition, censorship. If users knew that their submission in one group could be flagged for moderation, resulting in moderation of future submissions across all groups of which they were a member, they figured 'why bother?'
A Case Study of a Successful LinkedIn Group
The knock off van cleef bracelets Great LinkedIn Group Makeover of 2015 threw a wrench at the process by which many owners grew their memberships. Bringing people into groups has become a tougher sell, forcing a greater organic effort on the part of those who operate them. People become aware of groups less from traditional LinkedIn searches and more through the recruiting efforts of owners, managers, and evangelists.
One group that has seemingly withstood the changes in fact, is thriving on them is Step Into The Spotlight. The group is run by Tsufit, a seasoned marketing strategist and professional speaker who engages her constituents on LinkedIn daily. She offers thought provoking questions and comments that are designed to help members artfully and appropriately promote themselves. Since joining this group, I have marveled at the ways in which she keeps her community involved.
According to Tsufit, who regularly nurtures her network through off LinkedIn conversation, the whole point of a LinkedIn group is engagement. "The groups provide a vehicle through which people can stand out and get known as experts in the marketplace. This helps them make key connections and grow their businesses." She adds that once a connection is made, you cannot rely exclusively on LinkedIn to develop the relationship. It must move offline.
Tsufit actually serves in the role of a recruiter for her group, identifying good candidates through LinkedIn Pulse and other online media. Once in, they are not to do the old teach and preach. Instead, I encourage them to pose questions that will evoke a response."
What Will Revive the LinkedIn Groups?
Despite the mass exodus, the LinkedIn groups are by no means a barren wasteland. Whereas LinkedIn has preserved the infrastructure of the groups, heightened the aesthetics of the platform, and curated the content for easy access, at least for now, the ghost town metaphor is unfortunately apropos. The appeal of the group platform has clearly diminished, and revitalization is going to be an unquestionably challenging proposition.
The copy van cleef alhambra bracelet first step in bringing people back to the groups is to let them know that their voices are important. The route to an enriching group experience begins with each member contributing some measure of value. Enhancing one's presence on LinkedIn is not tied to overt promotion or status seeking behaviors; rather, by supporting others. and feeling part of a community that places a premium on quality intellectual exchange.
A reconsideration of the SWAM mandate, too, is in order. LinkedIn group owners would be well served to take a page or two out of Tsufit's playbook, and selectively moderate contributions after they have been posted. Any post stricken from the record necessitating future moderation would be confined to that group alone. This will drive meaningful interactions between group members who sincerely want to get to know each other and nurture the relationship off LinkedIn.
LinkedIn group digests, the typically ignored email recaps of daily or weekly activities, which were discontinued at the start of the changes, need to be reinstated. Inbox clutter notwithstanding, people need to know what is going on in their groups if they are to participate on a meaningful level. Enticing members to weigh in on discussions in a manner that truly drives conversation will create more enriching group experiences.
People join LinkedIn for various reasons, primarily to cultivate meaningful professional relationships, learn more about the people and companies they serve, and position themselves for economic opportunities. The groups are still excellent sources of quality first degree LinkedIn connections and offer outlets for constructive social listening. In the war for top talent, the groups also provide an ample grid for recruiters and job candidates looking to find one another.
LinkedIn continues to recognize group activity as an important visibility strategy, a means of driving one's footprint deep and wide on the site. There is a strong upside to group participation, one that LinkedIn is going to need to effectively communicate to its user base from here on out.
It is disconcerting that so many LinkedIn users van cleef knock off bracelets have dissociated from the groups.
I believe that this displacement is temporary, and that LinkedIn groups can still provide an important outlet for users to build a presence on the site and achieve a wide range of social networking objectives. But it is going to take time.
