Jiā Huìis an 19-year-old IELTS candidate who just got her result today, which is as follows:

  • Reading 9
  • Listening 9
  • Speaking 8
  • Writing 8

Overall band score 8.5

She had a short amount of time to get ready for her IELTS test. She said that in order to fulfill the conditions for her scholarship application, she had just three months to get a grade of 8.5. She was worried about passing the exam in such a short amount of time, but she had no choice but to do her hardest. We enquired as to if she had any tips for the other test-takers. She revealed the following:

1. IELTS Speaking Test.

“I used to practice speaking in front of the mirror so as to build my confidence. Furthermore, I also learned more about IELTS speaking topics, and what was expected from the candidate. I searched for IELTS speaking forecasts to practice at home and recorded all of my performances to review later and track my progress.

Additionally, I also got to know about the IELTS speaking scoring criteria on the basis of which aspirants are marked: Fluency and Coherence (FC); Lexical Resource (LR); Grammar Range and Accuracy (GR), Pronunciation (P).

Bear in mind that you must try to speak in English as much as possible to improve your influence. You can talk with your foreign friends via social network if it is difficult to find someone that speaks in English with you in non English speaking countries. “

2. IELTS Listening Test

“ I nailed the listening test with ease because I got a lot of listening practice at home. I’m keen on English music or watching English Channels on TV. Moreover, my English teacher suggested me watching debates in English over particular topics

Besides, I forced myself to start thinking in English instead of my native language as well.

Furthermore, I was always concentrating when listening because the recording wouldn’t be repeated a second time. However, if you miss a part of the recording, don’t sweat it, move on with the conversation and answer the next questions accordingly”

3. IELTS Reading Test

“I found the IELTS Reading Test to be a little difficult because there were so many lengthy passages and unfamiliar terms. However, rather than trying to understand the entire sections in a short amount of time, I employed some standard reading strategies like skimming or scanning to get the major points and locate the necessary information.

In addition, I read the section first, then I glanced at the answer to the question. I gave each paragraph's opening sentence extra attention because it might be the topic sentence and explain what the paragraph is all about.”

4. IELTS Writing Test

“I find writing to be the most difficult. I had to complete two writing assignments: task one required me to examine a provided pie chart, and task two required me to write an argumentative essay. I carefully reviewed the questions before I began to write in order to make sure that my solutions were well-structured, understandable, and on-topic.”
