EA Sports kicked off sports season with Madden 20 and they are ramping up the hype for FIFA 20.They have some competition though. Japanese rivals Konami are creating the biggest Pro Evolution Soccer release in years with PES 2020 by locking up exclusive rights to Juventus.

And now 2K are getting in on the act. They gave us a first hint at WWE 2K20 last month, but the real hype has been around the next installment in their excellent NBA franchise. NBA 2K19 was praised as a high point of the series but still had some nagging issues. So what will NBA 2K20 bring to hoops fans everywhere?Cover athlete Anthony Davis, who recently made a blockbuster move to join LeBron James at the LA Lakers, will front this years game. Or at least part of it. He will be on the Standard and Digital Deluxe Editions, but someone else will be on the Legends Edition.

Miami Heat icon Dwyane Wade, who retired at the end of the 2018-19 season, will grace the front of 7the Legends Edition this year.

2K often play their cards very close to their chest, and we had only seen a brief teaser of the game until this Next Is Now trailer dropped. There is a lot of emphasis on new faces and the recent flurry of players moving around the NBA.

Unsurprisingly, cover star Anthony Davis and new Lakers’ teammate LeBron James are the first to be seen, with the Clippers All-Star pairing of Paul George & Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard, Nets Kyrie Irving & Kevin Durant, Golden State’s ‘Splash Brothers’ Steph Curry & Klay Thompson and Rockets point machine James Harden & Russell Westbrook all featuring heavily.You do get a little taste of gameplay from the “Next Is Now” trailer, including new animations of players like Jimmy Butler, Kyrie Irving, and Buddy Hield.

2K have touched up their player motion engine and improved player footwork by adding smarter foot-planting allowing for more explosive movement from a stationary position.2K’s tight-lipped strategy over this year’s release means we don’t know a whole lot about it just yet. We know that Ronnie 2K will be making an appearance in cut scenes in MyCareer while some improvements to the off-ball system are coming. NBA 2K20 Trailer Gleefully Reveals Its Loot Boxes And Gambling Mechanics

NBA 2K20 is a game about playing basketball, but there's also a surprising number of activities in the game that have nothing to do with throwing a ball through a hoop. 2K Sports already revealed all of the new activities in 2K20's The Neighbourhood social space, and now a new trailer is showing off all the ways its loot boxes and gambling mechanics work with what resembles an actual casino.buy mt

The trailer, which almost feels like a parody, revolves around the card collecting MyTeam mode. By opening card packs you'll hopefully get rarer and more highly rated players that can even evolve like Pokemon in this year's game. By racking up wins in the reimagined Triple Threat mode, you can earn in-game currency, more card packs, and a chance to "spin to win!" for various jackpot prizes.

The series has caught plenty of flack in the past for the number of microtransactions featured in both MyTeam and MyCareer. "Microtransactions are everywhere, and trying to advance without them feels nearly impossible," our review for NBA 2K18 said. The in-game Virtual Currency flowed a little more freely in NBA 2K19, but microtransactions still loomed over everything. 2K even added seemingly unskippable pre-game ads in another move that rubbed some fans the wrong way.

Rather than temper controversy, NBA 2K20 seems to be embracing the contentious business model, which isn't too surprising considering its microtransactions have proved to be incredibly popular. Whether wheel spins and slot machines constitute gambling or not when no actual money is involved is up for debate. But the result of these randomized games is sure to influence the lure of any available microtransactions if things don't go your way. Not to mention the game is rated E for Everyone with only one slight mention of in-game purchases. Either way, marketing a game in such a way is more than a little disconcerting.

FIFA 20 Ultimate Team Brings New FUT Friendlies, House Rules, & Customization Options

The FUT Friendlies option is new to the game. It allows gamers to participate in different matchups which won’t use up any player contracts or fitness. Additionally, they won’t “carry over injuries and red cards” according to EA’s Pitch Notes. That gives FUT gamers a way to test out their lineups and with a deep stats tracking system, can also evaluate which of their friends are the top competition.

FUT Friendlies will give gamers a choice of three ways to play Ultimate Team. One option is Couch Play with up to four players and AI opponents. Another choice will be to play online against the FUT community. A third option allows gamers to “Play a Friend.” Each of these options provides a range of different ways to play including selecting a random opponent, or finding one to play with the new House Rules.

FIFA 19 brought House Rules as one of the options for games and they’ll now be available for FIFA 20 Ultimate Team. Survival and No Rules are back as House Rules from FIFA 19 Kick Off Mode. As players perform well or not so well, their OVR stats will be updated. This is part of the new Dynamic Player Potential feature in Career Mode. Basically, how well players play affects their final OVR stat. Younger players are going to see improvement as the team gains experience.With the addition of career highlights to the FIFA 20 new features, gamers are going to see live news screenshots straight from matches. That’s a nice touch to help keep an eye on the team and players’ performances.

EA also boasted of the new dynamic user interface aka “Dynamic UI.” With this, the Career Mode will have authentic branding from popular leagues. They’ll include the Premier League, Bundesliga Ligue 1, LaLiga Santander, and MLS. Of course, there’s also UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. Chuboi released an even longer video on his YouTube channel after EA FIFA let him come out to Gamescom 2019. It’s 24 minutes in length and presents more FIFA 20 VOLTA gameplay than we’ve seen before. It includes the customization screens were gamers can stylize their individual players. It also has great tips for the new mode with FIFA 20 gameplay producer Tom Caleffi speaking about VOLTA.

We see that unlike soccer fields these playgrounds have walls surrounding them. They allow players to make bounce passes off of them. The lower walls are generally a harder consistency while the upper walls are softer. So there are some interesting strategies for using them to your advantage.

Additionally, there are a range of new skill moves that players can do based on the direction they’re moving in. With that, players can also taunt opponents to draw them in and perform a skill move to fake them out.

Not only that, but there’s a crazy cool new “kneeling header” goal built into the mode. Basically, a player gets down on all fours and delivers a header goal in a crazy fun addition to the game. In Chu’s video, there are ways to score using the walls, insight on how chemistry works, and other aspects of the mode.

It’s going to be interesting to see if VOLTA mode for FIFA really takes off, or it becomes something gamers generally disregard. The “cool” factor with new moves, goals, and celebrations is certainly there. EA presented a video in which Zidane is shown from many angles and on the pitch. It ultimately concludes with the reveal of three different versions of Zinedine Zidane each of which has different FIFA 20 Icons ratings.

Those different versions of Zidane include a 1995-96 edition with a 91 OVR, a 2000-03 edition with a 94 OVR, and a 1996-98 version with 96 OVR. Check out each of those different versions from the trailer video in the screenshot below.

Zidane is one of a 14 brand new FIFA 20 Icons players revealed for the upcoming game. Others include Carlos Alberto, Andrea Pirlo, Ian Wright, Hugo Sanchez, Didier Drogba, and Ian Rush. Each of these Icons’ ratings was revealed for three of their FUT items in the game, with a fourth item marked by a question mark. That will be a special item coming in the future of Ultimate Team.

As seen above, Zidane will have two of the best new FUT Icons cards for the game with his 96 and 94 items. Garrincha and Carlos Alberto Torres are also right up there with high-rated items, though. Zizou’s absolute best item so far is the 96 OVR card which features 96 Passing, 95 Dribbling, and 92 Shooting amongst his best attributes.
