Twelve of the suspects ran the operation with one of them — still to be named publicly — seen as the mastermind of the scheme. He was described by authorities as a foreigner.
People were questioned in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and in five provinces. Based on initial reports, the ring involved betting on soccer games and other sporting events.
The Thanh Nien newspaper provided few details on the inquiry but reported that police said the ring was very “sophisticated.” It was also “difficult to detect” because funds were hidden by using bank accounts with smaller balances, the newspaper said.
Online patrons went onto a website and paid legal currency in exchange for virtual money that was kept in covert accounts. Some of those involved hired people to open bank accounts for them in secret so they could take part in the operation.
To further complicate the inquiry, organizers used a server which was located outside of Vietnam, police said.
Generally, World Cup or European championships in soccer have led to increased illegal gambling operations in Vietnam, according to the Agence France-Presse, citing unnamed law enforcement sources. This week’s arrests and raids come after another widespread crackdown on a separate $420 million illegal gambling ring. It has involved high-ranking Vietnamese government officials.
Dang Anh Tuan, 49, chief inspector of Vietnam’s Information Ministry, was arrested Thursday by local authorities in connection with that gambling ring.
He is suspected of violating laws on taking undue advantage of his government post — which he has held since 2015, according to Vn Express International. He allegedly failed to act promptly after gambling violations were discovered as far back as 2016.
Police in Phu Tho Province initially uncovered the gambling ring in 2016 after looking into a related fraud case. As their inquiry expanded, last year officials arrested Phan Van Vinh, a former director of the General Police Department, and Nguyen Thanh Hoa, a former director of the Department for High-Tech Crime Prevention.
The pair was put on trial. They were found guilty of “abusing power or position in the performance of official duties.”
Vinh was sentenced to nine years in prison and Hoa was sentenced to 10 years. Both were fined VND100 million (US $4,300).
That ring in total involved over 90 people with many of them paying fines or sentenced to prison.
In an unrelated case, police earlier this month searched an illegal gambling den located in a wooded area in Gia Lai Province. Approximately 130 gamblers were found and later held by authorities, according to local news reports. Police also seized about VND300 million (US $12,900).
In still another series of arrests, Vietnam police — also this month — arrested three South Korean men in connection with an online illegal gambling ring. It involved about 8.6 billion KRW (US $7.3 million).
Most people have a currency they prefer to use for deposits and for withdrawing funds from online casinos.
These are, naturally, the currencies they use on a day to day basis.
British folk, for instance, would prefer the casino support and accept
their British Pounds. Likewise players from across Europe would prefer
the euro, players from India would like to use Rupees, and still the
default around the world is the US Dollar (the main currency used in the
online casino gambling industry).

A Reddit user and Old Navy shopper is claiming that the store recently screwed up his online order and mistakenly mailed him 40 pounds of security tags instead of the two shirts he ordered for his kids.security ink tag
Ordered two shirts from Old Navy, received 40 pounds of security tags and a coupon. from pics
Sharing his story earlier this week, the shopper — who goes by Mgbgtv8 on Reddit — said he was actually home when UPS came by to drop off the package, but assumed it was something his wife had ordered separately.I opened the door, saw my wife's name on label, pushed the box with my foot and thought, ‘That's my wife's problem,'” he wrote.
Eventually, he opened the box, only to discover the aforementioned security tags and what appeared to be an expired $60 coupon. He later took to Reddit to share a photo of the discovery, much to the Internet’s delight.Since sharing his post, several other Reddit users shared their similar stories with online orders, including one who claims he ordered ramen soup from Amazon only to receive an external hard drive, and another who claims to have received urinary tract testing kits instead of eye drops.
Mgbgtv8 later explained that he called up a local Old Navy to see about bringing the tags back, but they instructed him to contact customer service. A representative was eventually able to resolve the situation, telling him they’d send over his shirts and a $20 coupon.
She also said she’d send over a return label for the tags, telling him he could “send them back … or not.”It’s still unclear exactly how Mgbgtv8 ended up with the 40 pounds of security tags, but a former Old Navy employee hypothesized that the tags were supposed to be sent between Old Navy shipping facilities, and somehow got slapped with the wrong label.
Regardless, Mgbgtv8 claims Old Navy is working to resolve his case. And in the process, he’s also learned something new about himself: People seem to hate his living room rug, which was barely visible underneath his huge box of Old Navy security tags.
Studies estimate that there are 27 million shoplifters in the United States alone. However, if retailers are diligent about their loss prevention strategy, explore best practices advised by experts, train employees properly and implement an advanced video surveillance system boosted by analytics and business intelligence, their efforts are far more likely to deter potential thieves and disarm employees who are considering using their inside knowledge for financial gain.
A few weeks ago I was in Macy’s in New York City with my wife, who was shopping for birthday presents, when I spotted an unusual and cool-looking shirt. I tried it on. My wife approved, and I bought it and brought it home.types of security tag
When I started to put it on I was surprised to find that the white plastic anti-theft security tag was still attached. No alarm had gone off when we exited Macy’s, and now I had to get that thing off.First thing I did was call Macy’s at the Buckland Hills mall in Manchester and learned that if I had the receipt, which I did, a clerk would remove it, which he did.
But what would you do if you didn’t have the receipt? How would you get the tag off?
and here’s what I found: All tags, whether circular or rectangular, use the same locking mechanism, a simple spring and clip.
• Ink tags: First determine if the tag is an ink tag, which is
usually white or red and circular and usually says it contains red,
pink, or blue and yellow ink that may combine. If you try to remove it
improperly the tag will “explode” marking the thief — or you — and the
item with ink.
Method 1. Use scissors, a screwdriver, a high-powered
magnet, a knife, or a pair of pliers. With a magnet, place it on the
table and position the tag bottom side down on the magnet. You should
hear it click. Manipulate the pin up and down, and it should come out.
• Method 2: Use a lighter to melt the top part of the cone on the ink tag. It should take about 15 seconds. Scrape the melted part of the cone off with a knife. Then use the knife to pop out the first ball bearing. Carefully pop out the rest of the ball bearings. After the first one comes out, the others should easily pop out. Then slide apart the two pieces of the security tag. Once the ball bearings are gone, the tag should come apart easily.
• Method 3: Using a flathead screwdriver on a rectangular tag, put the clothing on a table or the floor with the rectangular piece pointing up. Place the screwdriver along the edge of the raised area of the tag. Press down hard so that you pierce the plastic where the head is located. Repeat all the way around the raised area until you can remove it. Take the screwdriver and lift up one of the metal arms that you can see keeping the pin in place. The pin should slide through the hole, allowing you to part the two pieces of the security tag safely.
• Method 4: Using a large rubber band, find where the pin is on the inside of your clothing next to the ink-cartridge part of the security tag. Wrap the rubber band around this pin several times until it is tight. Add a second rubber band if the first one doesn’t pop the two pieces apart.
An alternative: Place the ink cartridge, which is on the opposite side of the pin, face down. Slip the rubber band around the pin. Hold the larger part of the tag with one hand. Pull the pin off with the other hand. The pin should eventually pop off or pull apart.
Clothing store anti-theft device usually uses anti-theft hard label, which is the most commonly used anti-theft label. There are two systems for the matching garment burglar guard, one is the acoustic and magnetic system, the other is the radio frequency system. Radio frequency system, the price is more affordable, anti-jamming ability is poor, acoustic and magnetic system, the price is more expensive, but the performance is excellent
