The Haunted Mine Quest I started a long while ago, when I was about level 58. However my death occurred and some of my valuable items were lost. I'm considering doing it again. I'm level 77. I use lobsters. Though I prefer melee I'm far more proficient at it. I have blue Dragon hide. I have splitbark armor.

Melee has been the most effective combat style since the release EoC and continued through the Global Combat Improvements. But melee is the most effective combat method. Although melee is able to cause the most damage to targets with infinite HP, it is impossible to hit targets with unlimited HP. The time required to run toward new targets severely dampens the effective damage rate, to the point where melee's higher base dps is surpassed by even range, which is the weakest of the styles, in most Slayer scenarios.

Defensively it is melee that is one of the weakest. Melee is vulnerable to splash damage from multi-target attackers such as Vorago, Nex and Beastmaster. However, melee is not able to maneuver against ROTS spins, Araxxor swipes and such attacks. Melee protects enemies who attack with melee or other methods.

Even if the argument is one of pragmatics versus pure power, the force doesn’t always outweigh all the issues that could be faced. It's a choice between an iron bars and guns. The bar can cause more harm when it's hit hard enough, however the gun will still be efficient.
