Diablo Immortal recently concluded its closed beta on the 7th of January and is currently scheduled to be released in the second half of 2022. While Diablo IV never had an official release date it was revealed that an Activision Blizzard earnings call last year revealed that the game had been delayed and was arriving later than the original date. The game's delay came amidst the ongoing fallout from multiple claims of discrimination, harassment and sexual harassment and investigations at Activision Blizzard.
Prior to Diablo: Resurrected's release, Blizzard was hesitant to make significant changes to the action-RPG original, which would later come to define a genre. Even the tiniest of new features that included player characters instantly grabbing gold off the ground when they walk near the area, could be turned on and off in setting options in the game. The message seemed to be clear: Diablo: Resurrected may be adorned with a fancy, optional, new coat of paint, however, under its hood it's still the game so many of Blizzard's faithful fans have played for more than 20 years.
A few months post-launch, and Blizzard's plans of Diablo Resurrected are different most likely because of feedback from the community. A recent update introduced an optional Diablo-like action bar to PC players, something that only a few months ago seemed impossible.
The addition of more modern-day quick-cast functionality appeared to suggest that an important threshold had been crossed with Buy D2R Ladder Items regard to the future of Diablo--perhaps Blizzard was becoming more open to updating Diablo in a manner that it had not been at the time of Resurrected's creation.
