The team earned a score of 174 across six dungeons and joined Season 1 winners Echo in the tournament’s hall of fame.
“I think it’s awesome to see [Aster.Y] succeed after coming so close the last time,” caster Moira “Meeix” Kloss said. “Seeing new teams, new team combinations and unexpected outcomes is the best thing about esports and it just makes me even more excited for the future of WoW PvEsports.”Caster Erik “DoA” Lonnquist and World of Warcraft Esports Associate Product Manager Adrian Archer-Lock also congratulated the team on their victory. While DoA said he’s really happy to see Aster.Y get the win after last time, Archer-Lock thanked the community for tuning in throughout the year.
The Great Push Season 2 was World of Warcraft’s second dungeon one-off tournament of 2021. To earn a spot in the event, Aster.Y first competed in the Proving Grounds phase. This qualifier involved over 7,500 teams and took place between Dec. 3-5.
In addition to Aster.Y, the other teams that qualified for The Great Push Season 2 between Dec. 10-12 included Echo Guardians, Method Sheesh, Mambo Jambo, Incarnation and Bonedust.One the first day of the tournament, six teams pushed keys in four different dungeons. This was followed by a fifth dungeon on Saturday and a final dungeon reveal on Sunday. At the end of each day, one team was eliminated from the tournament. While Mambo Jambo went home on Friday, Bonedust left on Saturday.
Championship Sunday involved the top four teams pushing keys as high as possible. The teams had five hours each, and Aster.Y broke a world record by clearing a Mythic+ 32 in the Necrotic Wake dungeon.
With their victory, Aster.Y won the lion’s share of the $20,000 prize pool and closed out World of Warcraft esports for 2021. According to Blizzard, future plans for competitive World of Warcraft will be unveiled in the new year.
