US banks earned $10 billion in two weeks processing the loans from the government scheme to protect small businesses from financial ruin during the coronavirus crisis, according to an NPR report. The rescue plan worth $349 billion offered businesses loans of up to $10 million to thousands of US companies and were guaranteed by the federal Small Business Administration. The banks charged a transaction fee of 5% on loans worth less than $350,000, while on loans worth between $2 million - $10 million, the cost was 1%.The banks defended the massive windfall of loan transaction fees, saying that processing the loans involved complicated vetting procedures.Treasury Department guidelines are less rigorous than for regular loans, and the taxpayer provides the funding, so there is little risk for the banks.Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories. To get more news about WikiFX, you can visit wikifx official website.
Banks have earned a quick $10 billion processing US government loans to small businesses affected by the coronavirus crisis, according to a new report. The $350 billion rescue program aims to funnel cash to small businesses distressed by the economic blows of the COVID-19 crisis. In two weeks, banks including JP Morgan, Bank of America, and PNC Bank vetted thousands of applications for federal loans of up to $10 million. Transaction charges start at 5% for loans under $350,000, reducing to 1% for loans between $2 and $10 million, according to NPR.The loans are guaranteed by the government, and the guidelines issued by the Treasury Department indicate that they require less vetting than regular loans. There is no risk to the banks which are merely the middlemen.
The banks have defended the costs, arguing the vetting process for each loan can still be complex. In an email statement seen by NPR, Bank of America said the program included “collecting, personally examining, and storing data” that is required for each application. One example highlighted by NPR was on April 7, when the parent company of Ruth's Chris Steak House, RCSH Operations LLC, received a loan of $10 million. JPMorgan Chase & Co., took a $100,000 fee on the one-time transaction for which it assumed no risk. The scheme, known as the Payment Protection Program (PPP), exhausted its funds last week. Aimed at small businesses with less than 500 employees, it was hit with controversy as larger companies exploited loopholes to tap into it.
Some large, well-funded companies were granted millions of dollars from the $350 billion pool of funding, while many small, mom-and-pop shops were unable to access any funding at all, sparking public outrage. The initial PPP funding was snapped up in less than two weeks. Congress has now approved an additional $310 billion and new loans will be issued again starting next week.

Mississippi residents had their first chance Monday to turn $5 into $100,000 legally. Convenience stores in the state began selling lottery tickets, ABC reports, under a law passed last year. Business was booming. A gas station manager said employees came in about 4am to prepare and sold the first ticket just before 6. "It's been wild, crazy, exciting, and I got a headache!" the manager said. By 7, the state had taken in $300,000 from scratch-off tickets, per WTOK.Get more news about https://www.nb68.com,you can vist nb68.com
More games will be in play soon, but for now, the state offers four scratch-off games. Powerball and Mega Millions will arrive in late January, per Newsweek. The first $80 million the state makes will go to improving roads and bridges, and anything on top of that will be earmarked for education. Players have to be 21 or older. A man in suburban Detroit was given the wrong lottery ticket. But there was no mistake about the result: a $2 million winner. The Michigan Lottery said the man stopped at a gas station in Eastpointe, Michigan, to put air in a tire. He needed change for the air machine and also asked for a $10 Lucky 7's scratch-off ticket, the AP reports. "The clerk handed me the $20 ticket by mistake. He offered to exchange it for me but something told me to keep it. I am sure glad I did!” the man said in a statement released Tuesday by the Lottery. The name of the 57-year-old man wasn't released. He decided to take a lump sum of about $1.3 million instead of $2 million spread over many years, the Lottery said. (Read more lottery stories.)Get more news about 牛博棋牌包网,you can vist nb68.com

The "Lottery Lawyer" advertised his services while noting that many lottery winners "are not sophisticated enough" to see potential scams. "You really have to rely on the professionals," Jason Kurland told Vice in 2016. Now three winners who relied on Kurland have lost more than $80 million, according to federal prosecutors, and Kurland and his associates are facing charges of fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy. Prosecutors say Kurland, 46, a partner at the New York-based Rivkin Radler law firm, worked with three other men—including alleged Genovese crime family associate Christopher Chierchio—to persuade the winners to invest $107 million in various projects, per the New York Times. Some of that money was then spent on yachts, private jets, luxury cars, golf club memberships, and shopping sprees at high-end stores, prosecutors say.Get more news about 牛博彩票包网,you can vist nb68.com
Winners, including the winner of the biggest lottery jackpot payout in US history, paid upward of $200,000 to hire Kurland, whose monthly fees ranged from $15,000 to $50,000, per the Times. Kurland would receive kickbacks for directing funds to projects controlled by Chierchio, 52; Frangesco Russo, 38; and Francis Smookler, 45, prosecutors say. In one case, Kurland allegedly took $19.5 million from a client's account without permission, sending most of it to Chierchio. In another, money was allegedly sent to Gregory Altieri, a jeweler accused in a $200 million Ponzi scheme, per the Times. Prosecutors say Russo and Smookler threatened to torture Altieri and kill his family after he failed to repay a loan. They also say the accused discussed how to cover up the scheme in a wiretapped phone call, per the AP. All three have pleaded not guilty. (Read more fraud stories.)

Episode 5 of "The Last Dance" (9 p.m. ET, Sunday on ESPN and the ESPN App) delves into the global phenomenon that was the Air Jordan sneaker franchise and the off-court business surrounding the Chicago Bulls.

In advance of that episode, longtime designer Tinker Hatfield and Jordan VP of Footwear Gentry Humphrey spoke with ESPN about the iconic Air Jordan line and the sneakers that were on Jordan's feet when he won each of his six championships.Jordan established himself atop the NBA hierarchy, knocking off Converse icon Magic Johnson and the Los Angeles Lakers in his first NBA Finals. Jordan ushered in a new era in the NBA in an amplified shade of Bulls red -- dubbed "infrared" -- with a molded heel tab inspired by the rear spoiler on his Porsche.

Michael actually started influencing more design power over the process, and I was cool with that," Hatfield said. "He started feeling like his signature look shouldn't have a [toe] tip. He was wearing dress shoes at the time that had a cleaner toe and a molded toe."

Gone was the extra toe panel that defined each of his models to that point, while the heel tab was complemented by a taller, rubberized tongue that allowed for easier entry.

"We always say that if some things are similar from one year to the next, there should always be something that's radically different," Hatfield said.
