In 2007 in Portland, Oregon, New Air Jordan Shoes teamed up with Doernbecher Hospital to create a new model of shoes that these special kids got to design themselves. This Air Jordan 1 was designed by patient Tony Taylor Jr., a Nephrotic Syndrome and a kidney transplant survivor. Dressed in a Black, Vivid Blue, White and Varsity Maize color scheme. The vibrant colors were highlighted with palm trees referencing the Bahamas atop a Yellow rubber outsole.
New Jordans 2016, This was a dream for Tony, as he is an avid Air Jordan collector. With the help of Jordan designers Jayson Mayden and Estelle Maranan, he was able to put together a work of art that was inspired by his life experiences. The black/blue color scheme represents his success with the battle against kidney disease, while the contrasting yellow and number 15 honor his favorite player, Carmelo Anthony. Below the number 15 is the date he received his kidney transplant and below that are four stars which represent his high school's mascot, the Generals. The palm trees along the midsole resemble the Bahamas.
New Jordans 2018, The Air Jordan 1 Doernbecher was released back in November 2008 as part of the Nike Doernbecher Freestyle Collection. Doernbecher Children's Hospital has been working with Nike every year to help raise money to fund research and basic operations. Every year as you all know five shoes from the Doernbacher series drop and the money from those sales are contributed to the hospital. These were designed by Tony Taylor Jr., nicknamed Mr. Boober, who battled Nephrotic Syndrome and underwent a successful kidney transplant at the hospital.
