Shanghai Travel Guide

As heady and exotic as they come, Shanghai is a city able to sate even the deepest wanderlust cravings. Shanghai, or Hu for short, serves as the most influential mecca for international trade, commerce, economy and all things finance in East China - if not all Asia. It’s a city of indulgence where you can feed your love for art and architecture, whet your gourmet palate, spend a morning selecting a custom-made wardrobe and an afternoon immersed in rich, ancient culture. Magically orphic, in this Asian city the most important things to have on hand are an appetite for ardour, a yearning for style and a keen sense of adventure. Smaller than one might expect given the city’s behemoth size, the Shanghai gay community continues to come out of the shadows and into its own. And while public displays of same-sex affection may be more common than they once were, don’t expect to find many rainbow flags flying over the city. Be assured though, as both a gay destination and icon city, the ties between Shanghai and the LGBTQ community weave themselves into tapestry worthy of exploration. To get more news about Shanghai travel advice, you can visit shine news official website.

China is nothing if not passionate about all things luxury. And nowhere is that voracious appetite for indulgence more apparent than from the glittering surroundings of some of Shanghai’s finest hotels. Case in point, the PuLi Hotel and Spa. An urban resort offering round the clock butler service, all imaginable services, a Michelin starred restaurant, upscale workout facilities, and a heated, infinity edge pool (just to name a few); PuLi’s biggest draw is the sheer luxury of their accommodations. An artful melding of minimalistic design and white glove service, the PuLi’s club level accommodations are sumptuous havens that offer guests daily breakfast, 24-hour butler service, a daily in-room aperitif, daily laundry or pressing services, high tea, and elevated bathroom amenities for which we sigh a grateful, “xièxiè”. Equally luxurious with an aesthetic that reflects a ‘shikumen’ style is the Middle House where two towers bring together Chinese and European influence. The hotel’s ‘east meets west’ ideal reaches through Middle House’s dining venues as well by offering guests three eatery choices; a chic Chinese restaurant, an Italian-inspired hotspot, and an all-day café with an international flair. The lower level of the hotel is devoted to wellness and features a sensational destination spa, a sprawling fitness centre, and an adults-only heated pool that invited guests to take a dip until 11 pm. This is one ‘middle’ we wouldn’t mind being stuck in!

Inspired by the works of William Shakespeare is The Drama, an aptly-named, theatre-themed boutique hotel where chicly appointed rooms are named after literary masterworks. In a prime location on West Beijing Road, the Drama is only a twenty-minute walk to Shanghai Center – but given the well-appointed rooms, themed restaurant, bar, café, gift shop and gallery you’ll find onsite; you may not ever want to leave the hotel’s delicious digs. For another boutique option, check out the award-winning design at URBN, a 26-room, Chinese-modern hotel is housed in a converted factory in Jing’An – just a stroll away from the French Concession.

During his extraordinary tenure as C.E.O. of The Walt Disney Company, Bob Iger methodically and dexterously transformed the organization from a single brand to a brand of brands, stringing together an M&A trophy shelf perhaps unparalleled in modern media history: Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and, in the final years of his tenure, the majority assets of 21st Century Fox. In sum, the accumulation of these extraordinary creative companies positioned a bulked-up Disney to enter the streaming business in a full-throated, double-barreled manner. It took Reed Hastings ten years to get Netflix to one hundred million subscribers. Disney+ achieved that feat in a year-and-a-half, and it continues to gain on Netflix every quarter. To get more latest news on disney, you can visit shine news official website.

As Iger grew the company, Disney was also buttressed by another set of assets: the linear television businesses, particularly ESPN, which came over in the 1995 Cap Cities deal that brought Iger to the mothership in the first place. For a generation, stars like Keith Olbermann and the late Stuart Scott turned ESPN into a synonym for the global sports business. The company competed aggressively for the live rights to franchises such as Monday Night Football and the College Football Playoff; SportsCenter, among other shows, seemed as much a part of the cultural firmament as Disney I.P., from Star Wars to Toy Story to Frozen. Not only was ESPN core to the overall business, but Iger also appeared to personally cherish it. After all, he came of age as a stage manager on ABC television sets and got his break as a senior program executive on the 1988 Winter Olympics. Today, he remains a loyal Packers, Yankees, and Clippers fan, and is friendly with the likes of Aaron Rodgers and Chris Paul. He even tried, and failed, to bring two NFL teams to Los Angeles. (The rival bid won.)

Even as consumers began cutting the cord on cable years ago, Iger remained steadfastly supportive of ESPN. For years, private equity firms have reached out to Disney and ESPN leadership to encourage them to spin off the sports channel, current and former high-level Disney sources told me. Industry analysts have similarly been beating the drum for the company to go all-in on streaming. By freeing itself from the stagnation and costs of the linear business, they argued, Disney could become a direct-to-consumer “pure play” and be valued at a far higher multiple, like Netflix. Iger spent years listening to this argument, the sources said, but assured his colleagues that ESPN would never leave Disney under his watch.

Ericsson on Wednesday launched a new network data analytics function for the 5G core, which it says can reduce costs and enable automation capabilities for better service quality. To get more latest news about ericsson, you can visit shine news official website.
The Network Data Analytics Function (NWDAF) helps on the 5G automation front by ensuring AI and machine learning-based models get the right data at the right cost to support a range of simple to complex tasks.

NWDAF is a set of microservices that are part of Ericsson’s cloud-native dual-mode 5G core and integrated in its multi-vendor big data analytics offering called Expert Analytics.5G NWDAF aims to streamline how core network data is produced and collected, while generating insights that drive actions for service providers to deliver better experiences for end-users. It’s based on 3GPP Release 17.

Data created in the network is used to identify and solve network problems at different levels for more data-driven operations. Ericsson called out enabling automated closed loops as an example. It involves data retrieval, analytics processing, generating insights and action enforcement, on various network and application levels.

“Everything 5G, especially 5G Core networks, must be automated. Automation will improve operational efficiency, reduce time to market for new services and is required to handle the magnitude of tailor-made services that will be introduced with 5G,” said Monica Zethzon, head of Solution Area Packet Core at Ericsson, in the press announcement.

According to the vendor, its NWDAF product can reduce service providers’ opex and capex costs by up to 45% compared to third-party NWDAF implementation. The data-driven network feature boasts easier integration and simplified orchestration.

BT Group Chief Architect Neil McRae, in the announcement, gave kudos to the launch and the importance of automation for customer experience. BT, owner of mobile operator EE in the UK, is using Ericsson for its cloud-native core, which can support both 4G and standalone 5G.With Ericsson we are working on cloud native solutions for 5G Core architecture to support multiple generations of technologies and we see the need for greater automation and analytics to manage complex networks and ensuring the best quality experience for our customers,” McRae stated. “I’m pleased to see that Ericsson is launching NWDAF building upon Ericsson’s built-in software probes and Expert Analytics (EEA), a natural next step development to enhance closed loop automation and service assurance that could benefit BT’s Customer Network Experience (CNE) platform.”

As Ericsson reported third quarter earnings this week, the vendor touted momentum for its 5G core and digital services business. To date it counts 45 standalone 5G core contracts, with eight live networks.

The sixty-four photographic works in “CHINA: Then & Now – Jan Serr” focus on Asia’s ancient Middle Kingdom. They depict the “Old Town” Hutong neighborhood streets, the restful Scholar’s Garden, and the ultra-contemporary world of Maglev bullet trains traveling 375 miles per hour. The exhibition is a visual presentation of the passing of time in China. To get more art in the news 2021, you can visit shine news official website.

Mirroring these efforts represented in Serr’s subject matter, the collection employs large-scale installations to transport visitors from the modern streets of China to its quaint historic neighborhoods.

Arranging prints of her meticulously curated compositions within the immersive exhibition, Serr’s work asks what is remembered and what is forgotten. Co-curated by Kate Hawley and Jan Serr, the time-travel journey of sorts beckons visitors to experience China through her eyes.

“What I saw in China, and how I saw it, is what you see here now. You are standing with me, looking though my camera, looking through my eyes,” said Serr.

As visitors walk through a full-sized Moon Gate, they enter a “Humble Administrator’s Garden” adorned with meditative scholar’s stones and an ever-soothing water feature, designating a space for personal contemplation.

Other works include two large figurative ceramics by Pamela Leung, never before exhibited in the United States, hand-colored brass rubbings, and other Chinese objects. All exhibitions at The Warehouse and their related programing are free and open to the public.

While Serr has worked with many types of image-capturing systems, in China she chose to be a street photographer. Her tool was a digital Nikon camera, and her operating principle was “See it, Shoot it, Be safe, Be gone.”

“I compose looking through the camera’s viewfinder,” added Serr. “I do not crop images. I sometimes wait a long time for a composition to develop, for traffic to move in a certain way, or for someone to look into or away from the camera. I shoot thousands of images, I select just a few.”

In addition to Serr’s photographs, the exhibition includes a never before displayed painting of the Tiananmen Square massacre, created in 1989. The events in China’s capital also coincided with the Berlin Wall coming down in Germany.

“Seeing these images, seeing these events happen, Jan did what she does as a visual artist. She stretched canvases and started painting images of the Berlin Wall and the Chinese students. They were just her private visual diary of the events,” said John Shannon, managing director of The Warehouse. “They were taking the wall down and celebrating, and in Tiananmen Square there were demonstrators. Jan wasn’t there, she saw the images on TV, but she was very moved.”

Shannon said that showing the painting was important, because he did not want the public to think the collection celebrated an “autocratic, corrupt, and merciless political system.” It served as a touchstone of civility and protest.

“Right now, China, in Hong Kong, are jailing artists and journalists. Right now, Chinese fighter planes are flying very near Taiwan. This is Chinese expansionism,” added Shannon. “And that’s the reason why the painting is here early in the show. We’ve noted as to why it’s here and what it means to us. It really pivots everything else that we’re doing.”

Shanghai, though the biggest city in China and the nation's financial heart, never appeared as a royal city back in Chinese history (weird more or less). So no palace, no imperial mausoleum here, probably not that bad if you happen fly from historical Beijing or Xi'an. So what we get here? A living 'Museum of International Architecture' in the Bund; breathtaking panoramic city view at 468 m high, on top of the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and maybe a fancy meal its revolving restaurant; indigenous Shikumen architecture with poles and clothes seemly everywhere; older generations playing Mahjong from day to night in small alley; elegant and quiet Yu Garden as an arcadia in the modernity…To get more news about Shanghai travel tips, you can visit shine news official website.

Don’t forget Shanghai is also a city of food lover, nothing feels better to eat a way through the Yunyuan Market; by the way, be prepared to give your first shot to eat a bun by a tube (yes! tube) in your life, when you get Sugar Spice Cafe in the market.
For a classic Shanghai tour, there is no way to miss Jinmao Tower, check out the metropolitan by a birds-eye view at China’s tallest building (and 3rd tallest in the world), really not bad. The Bund also tops many travelers’ lists of what to see in Shanghai, those 100+ years old buildings are all living evidence for the city’s old glamour and prosperity. If you are a fan of shopping or good food, head over to Yuyuan Market, Tianzifang and Xintiandi, stroll around, discover gadget, bargain and eat, be sure you set aside an afternoon.

Want to have something different? A short tour to water towns near Shanghai brings you that different experience. Like other super cities, Shanghai never lacks skyscrapers and shopping malls. But there are attracting water towns make Shanghai like no others, Zhujiajiao, Xitang for instance. What? Xitang belongs to Zhejiang Province, not to Shanghai, no big deal, 1 day is quite enough for a round trip!

If schedule allows and you need more interaction with Shanghai, why not being a Shanghai people for 1 day. Start with a trip to local vegetable market with a housewife, pick materials while taking a crash course on how to bargain and win, cook and enjoy your own Shanghai lunch. Afternoon is left for Mahjong, a 'sport' with the largest playing population in China!

Apart from the classic attractions, Shanghai has many other places to go and things to do, such as taking a stroll along then French Concession, doing shopping on the bustling Huaihai Road, etc. If you have a loose schedule, try these optional tours of Shanghai.

Disney Plus' new Home Alone movie trailer doesn't look like a fun time

Disney Plus has revealed the first trailer for its Home Alone revival, which bears the less Google-friendly title of Home Sweet Home Alone. Technically, it's the fifth Home Alone movie in the franchise, following the first two films you know and love, the third Culkin-free one from 1997 you might like, and the two straight-to-DVD ones we all try not to think about. To get more disney updates, you can visit shine news official website.

On paper, everything seems to fit with Home Sweet Home Alone: Jojo Rabbit's Archie Yates stars as the boy who finds himself home alone, while Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney play the husband-and-wife thieves who he must brutalize in creative ways as they invade his home. Other cast members include Aisling Bea as the family's mother, and Buzz from the original movies makes a cameo in the trailer, suggesting a vast extended fictional universe of boys being left at home.

It just isn't very funny. The reception seems a little mixed on YouTube towards the trailer, with around 2,600 upvotes to 1,900 downvotes at the time of writing. As one user puts it, "I look forward to seeing how they can make this premise work in an age where everybody has a phone."
There is only one great Home Alone movie, and that is the original. You might find the second or third charming, built on a foundation of nostalgia, and they certainly have their moments, but it's fundamentally a premise that only gets worse the more times you do it.

What's amiss about this one, based on the trailer, is the lack of good jokes or charm. Young actor Archie Yates certainly proved himself to be a great performer in Jojo Rabbit, but the protagonist here just seems like a slightly smarmy posh British boy – he's got 'big early Harry Potter movies kid actor' energy. Being compared to Macaulay Culkin is just a tough break for anyone, though, so this movie was always facing an uphill battle in that respect.
Back to the trailer: this lad's house is gigantic, and his parents can afford a family trip to Japan, even though they have about 40 children. I'm supposed to feel sympathy for this kid? Hell, I hope the burglars win – think how much that place is insured for. They can afford to lose a few lamps and laptops to victims of the wealth gap.

These are all criticisms you can level at the original Home Alone too, of course. We're just being flippant because, on paper, this should look like more fun than it seems in the trailer. Alongside Kemper and Delaney, Rick and Morty's Chris Parnell and Veep's Timothy Simons are among the supporting players – so where are the laughs?

Hopefully the hard edges of the original haven't been sanded off entirely – it just looks very conventional and inoffensive. We wouldn't put too much money on there being a big twist that's hidden in this teaser (imagine the burglars were secretly the boy's real parents, and he only found out after he had them thrown in jail – that would ruin a lot of Christmases).

There's arguably an element of punching down when you're criticizing something aimed squarely at kids – but Home Alone has more baggage than that, because the target audience is split between younger viewers and older fans of the films.
