Tauranga Community Foodbank van overflowing with generosity

A van "chocka" of food was loaded up by smiling Tauranga Community Foodbank volunteers after a commercial business hub pulled together for a building wide can drive.

The efforts of the 247 Cameron Rd tenants resulted in a van three quarters filled with food and other donations for the foodbank, which volunteers loaded up on Friday afternoon.

Can drive organiser Michelle Senkus, the administration manager for Cooney Lees Morgan, said the collection was fantastic and each year the building's tenants were getting more on board.

"It went really well. I don't know which tenant did the best, but that doesn't matter."

Mrs Senkus said the collection got lots of tinned food, particularly fish, which the foodbank had requested. There was also a lot of cake mixes, Christmas goodies, Weet Bix, rice, nappies and toilet paper.

"People put a lot of thought into what to bring. Last year, the foodbank gave us a wish list of items they needed, so we used that again. Nicki [Goodwin, foodbank manager] told us the same things were always in high demand, such as personal products and toiletries."
