Saad now has 13 points in the postseason, two points behind Chicagos team leaders. One of those leaders is Patrick Kane, the talented winger who had managed one assist in the first four games of the series, but delivered a big game for Chicago in Game Five, putting up four assists. The only other player in Blackhawks history to register four assists in a playoff games was Steve Larmer, agsinst St. Louis April 30, 1990. Kane and Saad also had the best possession numbers for the Blackhawks in the game. With Kane on the ice, at 5-on-5, the Blackhawks had 28 shot attempts for and 16 against (63.6%); with Kane off the ice, the Blackhawks had 46.0% of the shot attempts. Over the past four games, Saad has been on for 68 of 103 5-on-5 shot attempts (66.0%). Blackhawks D Johnny Oduya had a goal and an assist, giving him 15 points in 40 playoff games, which ranks 11th among defencemen over the past two seasons. Blackhawks RW Andrew Shaw had quite a game, picking up a couple assists and tying Bryan Bickell for the team lead with eight hits, doing so while playing on a clearly injured right leg after getting tangled up with Kings D Jake Muzzin. For the Kings, captain Dustin Brown is relishing his return to Anze Kopitars wing and scored a goal and an assist, with a team-leading eight hits. Marian Gaborik also had a goal and an assist for the Kings; it was Gaboriks playoff-leading 11th goal. The standout for the Kings was D Drew Doughty, who didnt register a point, but had nine shots on goal and a dozen shot attempts, in a game-high 39:04 of ice time. Both goaltenders, Corey Crawford and Jonathan Quick had ups and downs throughout the game, but each ended up stopping 40 shots in a game that saw the Blackhawks outshoot the Kings 45-44, and out-attempt them 81-76. It was close and competitive, and included a thrilling overtime period as the Blackhawks staved off elimination in front of their home crowd. The kind of game that makes fans yearn for more between these two teams. Now, its to Game Six, back in Los Angeles and Chicago, which seemed to be on its last legs going into Game Five, has some life. They still need to win two more against a Kings team that has been playing tremendous hockey, but weve seen momentum swings in this years playoffs -- teams losing multi-goal leads in games and multi-game leads in series -- that should hearten the Blackhawks. If they can find a way to take Game Six, theyll get Game Seven back in Sweet Home Chicago. Cruz had an arthroscopic debridement of the knee Thursday afternoon in Pensacola, Fla. after getting a second opinion on the injury he sustained last weekend against Seattle. The surgery is similar to the one former Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora had before the 2011 season. The recovery period is at least three weeks. The Giants (5-9) have two games left in the regular season. The team listed him as out for the Lions game in Detroit on Sunday and spokesman Pat Hanlon said he would not play in the season finale against Washington on Dec. 29 Cruz was injured Sunday in the third quarter of the Giants 23-0 loss to the Seahawks. He jumped to catch a pass and landed hard on his head. After he walked off the field, the Giants said he sustained a concussion and injured his knee. Cruz was cleared of the concussion Wednesday. The knee injury was more serious. Cruz, who signed a $43 million contract this summer, had a team-high 73 catches for 998 yards and four touchdowns this season. He was 2 yards short of his third straight 1,000-yard season. The City of Edmonton and Katz Group said that the $480 million Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for Rogers Place has been met. "For the Katz Group and the Edmonton Oilers, we have always believed Edmontons need for a new arena was a huge opportunity to help transform our downtown into the vibrant, diverse and dynamic community that is the hallmark of every great city," said Oilers owner Daryl Katz in a statement. "We couldnt be more excited to see that vision becoming a reality and I want to thank Mayor Iveson, City Council, former Mayor Stephen Mandel, and the entire team at the City and everyone else who has laboured over this project for years for their tenacity and faith in this project." In addition to the $480 million for the arena, the cost was also confirmed through the GMP process for the four other components of the project - a community rink, Winter Garden, LRT cconnection and pedestrian pedway. EDMONTON -- The Calgary Stampeders went north looking for the win that would send them back home for a game that really matters. Meghan Klingenberg Jersey . It was the fourth win in a row for the league-leading Stampeders (13-3), who can clinch first place in the CFLs West Division with a B.C. win over Saskatchewan on Saturday. "It was a big win for this team," said Stampeders quarterback Kevin Glenn. "It was a real team effort. Those types of wins are what bring teams closer. Especially at this time of year when we know we are going to need it from everybody to get wins now." Glenn had a milestone game as he moved into the top 10 on the CFLs all-time passing yards list, eclipsing Tom Clements 39,041 yards in the first quarter. "It feels a lot better that we got it on a win," said the 34-year-old. "Just to be in that type of company and be mentioned with those guys that are in the top 10, its a blessing. "Its just hitting me right now. I have to say I am really proud of myself and would like to give myself a pat on the back." The Eskimos (3-13) lost their fourth consecutive game as they are limping through the remainder of the season having already been eliminated from playoff contention. Edmonton did not win a single game against a Western Division opponent all season and had just one victory at home, setting a new franchise low. "Its sorely disappointing," said Eskimos head coach Kavis Reed. "We arguably have the best fan base in the league and our performances at home have been inconsistent, for lack of a better term. Calgary failed to score any points on the turnover, however. The Stamps came back with a 27-yard Rene Paredes field goal on their next possession to go up 3-0 heading into the second quarter. Edmonton tied the game three minutes into the second frame on a 47-yard Grant Shaw field goal that was set up by a long 48-yard passing play to Fred Stamps. Calgary went up 10-3 five minutes into the second as Glenn hit Marquay McDaniel with a pass and he was able to just edge the ball across the plain of the goal line for a 29-yard touchdown. The Stamps added a 32-yard Paredes field goal with four minutes left in the first half. Edmonton gave away seven more points with a minute-and-a-half remaining when Shaw rolled out on a third-and-20 punting situation only to have it blocked by Wall, who picked it up himself and went 19 yards for a touchdown. "I dont think it was a called fake punt," said Calgary head coach John Hufnagel. "They do that, what we call a rugby kick where he will run and if he thinks he has the opportunity to run for the first, he will do that. If not he will kick it. We were just one him too quick when he was making that decision. We watch film." The Eskimos were able to get those points back with just three seconds left in the first half as they gained a ton of ground on a pass interference call to set up a leaping seven-yard TD catch by Bowman to make it 20-10 at the half. There was no scoring in the third quarter. The Stampeders gave the scoreboard operators something to do again early in the fourth quarter as Paredes nailed his third field goal of the contest. Edmonton countered with a Shaw field goal six minutes into the fourth to make it 23-13. Calgary added a punt single before the Eskimos came back with a long drive down the field. Edmonton looked to inch a bit closer on a field goal attempt, but Shaw missed and hit the uprights. Paredes booted a 45-yarder for his fourth field goal of the game to close out the scoring. The Eskimos play their two remaining games on the road, starting next Friday in Vancouver against the Lions. The Stampeders return home next Saturday to face Saskatchewan. They do so because they know that they not only have to impress their manager, but more importantly, they have to impress their teammates. They have to earn the respect of the senior players if they are ever going to be considered one of them. You see, experienced players can suss out a fraud in less than one training session, and it doesnt take long for them to figure out if a young player comes with an ego. Those egos dont last very long though, because the senior players simply dont tolerate them. They chip away at the arrogance of youth, exposing flaws until the young player sees the light; that they arent the finished article and that they have to work hard if they are ever going to fulfill their potential. It is a humbling that involves brutal honesty, but it teaches young players humility and mental resiliency - two vital ingredients in having a lengthy professional career. That humbling clearly hasnt happened for Darren Mattocks. He has been allowed to live in the bubble that he has created for himself - one in which he thinks hes already the finished article. Mattocks spoke on a Jamaican football program this week, where he revealed that he "carried Vancoouver to the playoffs last year" and that "every team in MLS wants me". Darren, you have exceptional athletic ability, and you are arguably one of the finest athletes in Major League Soccer. But you were voted the top prospect in MLS under the age of 24 last year because of your potential, not because you are the finished article. You are a 23-year old man, but you have the football intelligence of a 15-year-old boy. You are reactive, rather than proactive, and you use your pace and athleticism to make up for the fact that you are often in the wrong position to begin with. The timing of your runs is poor, your finishing is poor, and you do not retain possession of the ball nearly well enough to be considered amongst the leagues best. You did not play a starring role this season because you simply didnt earn the right to do so. You are judged on everything you do - in training, in games, in your demeanour on and off the field - not just on your statistics. Unless you realize this, you will never be in a position to fulfill your undoubted potential. Unless you realize this, you will become just another player who failed to live up to his potential. The choice is yours, Darren. You can carry on believing that it was Martin Rennies fault that you had a poor season. But youd be wrong. You are the only reason you struggled this year. If anything, Martin tried to protect you from the things Ive just told you, because Im not alone in my assessment of your game. Many of the senior players in your dressing room think the exact same things. And I suspect that now that Martin is gone, youll be hearing it from them very soon.
