City of North Vancouver Mayor Darrell Mussatto believes it time to consider building a tunnel under Burrard Inlet and extend rapid transit to the already traffic choked North Shore.

He said it could be either an extension of the Canada Line or the Millennium and Expo Lines through a bored tunnel, or perhaps a cut and cover option where a route is trenched into the inlet bottom and pre cast sections of concrete are sunk into it.
Or the Metro Vancouver region might consider other options such as an above surface crossing with one of the bridges.
Mussatto said it has to be a longer term consideration after TransLink existing priorities of the Broadway SkyTrain extension and Surrey light rail projects are looked after.

TransLink spokeswoman Jill Drews said TransLink doesn have immediate plans to study a North Shore link, but it would have an opportunity to start discussions with the update of its 30 year regional transportation strategy, which is supposed to happen later this year.
