Israel is in the news nonstop this week, with the pope visit making headlines and today being Israeli Independence Day. Inspired, IT Editor Janelle Nanos is revisiting some of her favorite holy sites from her recent trip.
I don tend to do much heavy reading while on vacation, but I quickly learned that along with the numerous guidebooks I brought with me to Israel, it probably would not have been a bad idea to toss a Bible into my suitcase. Luckily, my tour guide, Ziv Cohen, had one with him at all times. The heavily dog eared tome provided us with a handy, albeit ancient, reference point which underlined the significance of the sites we visited, and spurred a favorite quote from the trip: Israel, the Bible is our GPS.
Driving in the van between destinations, I grab the book and thumb through its thin, onion skin like pages. And like an onion, Israel history enfolds layer upon layer, which explains the fact that sites like the tomb of David is housed in the same building where it is said the Last Supper took place. (The tomb is on the first floor, the room as it is known, is just upstairs). As you can see from the many tabs Ziv uses as a reference, Israel role in the Bible can be covered in a mere blog post. But after the jump, I share some travel highlights from the Biblical stops along my trip.
Biblical Location: Site where Jesus hosted the ultimate bread and fish picnic and gave the Sermon on the Mount.

Biblical Location: The 15 stations, depict the last hours before Jesus is crucified.

KEY: If an officer's actions are so grossly negligent that a reasonable person would believe that it would lead to the person's death, then that would be the standard to prove involuntary manslaughter.
KASTE: Police officials in Baltimore have already said that Freddie Gray was not buckled up in the van. That violates department policy. And it might be evidence of gross negligence, depending on other circumstances.
KEY: If, however, the officer that's driving the wagon and I'm again, hypothetically, slams on the brake on purpose; the guy's banging around in the back of it; the wagon driver gets tired of hearing it and this is sheer speculation and he slams on the brake, they might be able to bring that to the level of a second degree murder charge.
KASTE: But proving intent for that second degree murder charge can be difficult. It often requires testimony from other officers. Lou Reiter is one of the country's top trainers of police internal affairs investigators. And he says in his experience, it's hard to get one cop to testify against another.
LOU REITER: I'll be honest with you, there's not many departments where that officer would not face retaliation.

Curling out of the Victoria Curling Club this winter, Vandepoele is perhaps the best young curler in this province never to have won a major provincial championship and that's at least partly a function of the era in which she's curled.
She has competed in two of the last three provincial junior women's finals and lost both of them. But the identity of the skips who beat her Kaitlyn Lawes in 2009 and Breanne Meakin in 2011 should tell you everything you need to know about the formidable obstacles the 19 year old university student has faced as she continues to try to fake hermes brown belt whosale claim her first provincial curling title.
