Kristen Bell loves that the dialogue in

truth, I swear a lot, said Bell, whose series is in the midst of its fifth season, airing on The Movie Network in Canada and channel of origin Showtime in the United States.

use a lot of language, not all of it is clean. I don't mean it in an offensive way, I simply use colourful language. I also use a lot of crazy adjectives.

don't find that a lot of people edit out their swear words during the day, unless you in a business setting. These people (the main characters in House of Lies) are harsh and edgy and severe, van cleef and arpels necklace clover replica, and their language mirrors that. in some ways the dialogue on TV has caught up to real life.

cable television has, Bell agreed. can drop your guard and write how humans talk. You don't have to deal with the censorship issues you have on network.

yes, Bell said. would dominate. on a group of cutthroat management consultants, House of Lies stars Bell as Jeannie van der Hooven, van cleef & arpels alhambra necklace replica, Don Cheadle as Marty Kaan, Ben Schwartz as Clyde Oberholt and Josh Lawson as Doug Guggenheim.

As maniacally driven and greedy as Jeannie, Marty, Clyde and Doug can be, they often form the cumulative voice of reason for clients who might be successful and rich on the one hand, but are frighteningly flaky on the other.

What I'm saying is, if House of Lies has taught me anything, it's that super high achieving people are also nuts. Bell laughed when I said that, but she didn't disagree.

think you're spot on, Bell said. really do.

think that anyone who achieves there are enigmas, of course but anyone who achieves greatness or massive success has probably done it by seeing the world in a different way. They have different glasses than the rest of us, and usually that means they're a little bit nuts. Their priorities are different. They're not the norm.

think highly successful people see the world differently. And if you see the world differently, you're often a bit crazy or eccentric. of course, has been a well known showbiz fixture for a dozen years now, going back to the debut of her TV series Veronica Mars in 2004.

Bell recently has been linked to a new NBC sitcom called Good Place, from Parks and Recreation co creator Mike Schur, in which she will co star with Ted Danson. But that is not expected to interfere with Bell's work on House of Lies, if in fact that show is granted a sixth season.

feel like there's much more story to tell (in House of Lies), particularly because Jeannie and Marty have just had this baby, Bell said. we all know, having kids embarks you on an entirely different journey. It's a time when your personal interests and professional interests hit a collision point and you have to make a lot of tough decisions about who you want to be.

I feel like there's plenty of story left to tell and certainly hope that it goes on. I also love working on this show. I love these people and this part, so I don't ever want it to end. Kristen Bell gets to swear on camera in House of Lies. Who could f ask for anything more?

London mother and daughter living in a Mini tell how they once had a

They once lived in a lavish five bed property in a desirable area of north London, complete with a swimming pool, a third of an acre of land and a view of a sprawling golf course.

But for the past 13 months, 72 year old Louise and her daughter Laura, 38, have been living in a cramped, 11 year old Mini, in an incredible fall from grace which has seen them sneaking into McDonald's just so they can brush their teeth.

The mother and daughter now spend their days driving around residential roads in Barnet, north London, trying to find places to park their makeshift home.

Scroll down for video

Louise, 72 (left) and her daughter Laura, 38, (right) have spent the past 13 months living in a cramped Mini after being evicted from their home when they fell into rent arrears. They say they are in a 'desperate' situation

Their nights are spent huddled beneath old blankets in a unlit supermarket car park, where they try to squeeze in four hours' sleep before the day's deliveries begin.

Louise and Laura now face another harsh winter and another lonely Christmas living out of their rusty convertible and say they have reached the point of desperation.

The shocking riches to rags tale has striking similarities to the new film starring Maggie Smith, The Lady in a Van, which features a homeless woman who parked her camper in Alan Bennett's driveway.

'It was absolutely freezing last night,' Louise tells MailOnline. 'My knees get so painful it's not just the cold, but being all cramped up as well.

'I can't live like this it's no life. I promised myself I would end my life in the sunshine. I simply can't see any way out.'

Their current plight is a million miles from the somewhat glamorous existent they previously enjoyed in the affluent neighbourhood of Hadley Wood.

But after more than a year of effectively living on the streets, replica van cleef and arpels alhambra diamond necklace, the two women have honed their lifestyle into a military operation.

They know exactly where and when they can park without being fined or moved on and they have a trusty list of hotels, cafes and restaurants where they can use the facilities, free of charge.

They also rely on the kindness of pseudo strangers to help them with everyday needs. They are on first name terms with a worker at McDonald's who sometimes gives them reduced price hot drinks, while another friend, who works as a hairdresser, washes and dyes their hair when needed.

Laura, pictured washing her face, says they have to sneak into private businesses to use the toilets and wash

Louise and Laura tend to eat just one meal a day and even ration their drinking so they do not end up needing the toilet at inconvenient times.

When night falls, they drive to a supermarket car park where they drift off to sleep 'with one eye open',van cleef diamond necklace replica, amid fears of being targetted. With hardly any room in which to recline their seats, they sleep almost upright in repetitive discomfort.

Then, as staff start to arrive in the early hours, they drive off to another car park where they can stay until office workers park up for the day's work.

By that time, Laura says they are 'bursting' for the toilet and will make their way to a cafe or hotel to use the facilities and, occasionally, rinse their clothes.

Showering takes place simply as and when they can pluck up the courage to ask a friend to use their bathroom. Otherwise, they clean themselves with wipes while sat in their car in a routine which Louise describes as 'humiliating'.

'It really is just horrible. It's embarrassing to even admit it. Being dirty is my worst fear. It's not ever where we imagined ourselves to be,van cleef arpels alhambra necklace replica,' Laura said.

But where they can get a decent shower is the least of their problems. The pair also have to battle the cold, which is made all the harder due to Louise's arthritis. In a desperate attempt to combat the pain, replica van cleef necklace wholesale, she keeps a pair of old pink slippers next to the pedals which she puts on between driving.

'We sometimes put the heating on in the car, but we try not to very often because we don't want to waste petrol,' Laura said.

Their car a 2005 Mini which they have owned for several years is rammed full of blankets, which sit beside bags of dirty washing and worn clothing.

I can't live like this. It's no life. I promised myself I would end my life in the sunshine

Louise, 72, who lives in a car

They carry these around until a friend offers up a washing machine.

There's no sign of photo albums apparently left with friends while their valuables and furniture were sold off years ago in a bid to give the couple a bit of extra cash.

Laura said: 'It's pretty much all our belongings just cramped into the boot of this car. All mum's jewellery and other possessions were sold off years ago. This is pretty much what we have left.'

How the Dutch confront the rise of the oceans

Windmills are more than just a traditional part of the Dutch landscape; they have played a key role in the war the Dutch have been waging against the ocean for the past thousand years. Our Cover Story is reported by Martha Teichner:

The windmills at Kinderdijk were built nearly 300 years ago, to pump water out of the surrounding farmland. But the Dutch have been outsmarting the water that's everywhere around them for a thousand years,

A massive storm surge barrier called the Maeslantkering, or Maeslant Barrier, was completed in 1997, to protect Rotterdam, Europe's largest port. It's equal in size to two Eiffel Towers, on their sides.

A massive storm surge barrier called the Maeslantkering, replica van cleef onyx necklace, or Maeslant Barrier, replica vans necklace, was completed in 1997 to protect Rotterdam, Europe's largest port.

"This Maeslant Barrier is really here to safeguard us for the future," said Henk Ovink. He is water envoy for the King of the Netherlands a water ambassador, quatrefoil necklace van cleef replica, if you will.

The Dutch are the world's go to water management experts. Ovink spent two years working in areas hit by Superstorm Sandy. "I said [to them], 'Did you think of preventing the disaster?' And they were like, 'Preventing the disaster? No, we couldn't. No, we have to make sure that we respond faster.' And I said, 'But suppose that there is no disaster because you prepared better?'"

Who doesn't know the fable about the little Dutch boy who plugged the hole in a dike with his finger and saved his country?

What really happened taught the Netherlands about preparedness. A ferocious North Sea storm in January 1953 flooded 500 square miles and killed more than 1,800 people. The Dutch built themselves a fortress of flood protection.

Today, the Netherlands considers itself protected against a 10,000 year storm, in part thanks to research done by Deltares, a gee whiz kind of place, with the largest wave machine in the world.

At their experimental facility, they can test structures that protect against the coast from ocean waves.

The largest wave machine in the world, at the Deltares engineering facility.

Deltares has worked with clients in 140 different countries, including the United States. Ap van Dongeren, a coastal flooding expert with Deltares, says all of their designs are assuming a rise in sea levels. "And that will come with higher waves, so you have to figure that all into your design," he said.

Sea levels in Holland are expected to rise more than three feet by the end of the century. This projection prompted the Dutch government so used to walling water out at all costs to rethink, and let the water in instead.

"For the Dutch, this is a revolution the idea that you're safer by lowering the dikes? This is extraordinary," said journalist Tracy Metz.

In her latest book, Metz, a longtime Netherlands resident, tells the story of how the farmers of Overdiepse Polder voluntarily agreed to give up their land so that it could become a spillway for a nearby river when it floods, in order to protect cities and towns downstream.

For Nol Hooijmaiers, it was a sacrifice with a silver lining. Huge mounds were constructed, so that he and a few of his neighbors were able to build brand new farms high above the floodplain.

"So you're happy, not angry?" aske dTeichner.

"Everybody is happy, ja," he replied.

Learning to accommodate water has led to innovation, for example: The Sand Engine (), a 24 million ton pile of sand dumped off Holland's south coast. Nature was the engine that spread it into a flood barrier and a beach.

Jim Murley, the man in charge of confronting Miami Dade County's water issues, and who has consulted Dutch engineers, says parts of the Dutrch model are applicable elsewhere. "Just the way they go about thinking about managing water, how they use their land, replica van cleef rose gold necklace, creates a mindset," he said.

In South Florida, flooding has become a regular occurrence. According to current estimates, sea levels here will rise as much as six feet by the end of the century. At stake: trillions of dollars of real estate and more than seven million lives.

So at a vulnerable Miami waste water treatment plant, critical infrastructure is being rebuilt higher.

"We want to be sure that this facility will withstand a storm surge," Murley said.

In Miami Beach, streets are being raised 2.5 feet. A new art museum in downtown Miami is designed so flood water can flush through its foundation.

Murley said, "We're starting to think about how we might develop in the future, if we were having to live with water like the Dutch are."

Like Rotterdam, where there is a floating conference center surrounded by floating trees; and Amsterdam, with its whole neighborhood of floating houses.

How to Transport Propane Tanks in the Car

In the United States, the regulations concerning transportation of propane cylinders for home use are elucidated in NFPA 58, section 9.3.2. According to these regulations:

You must transport propane cylinders upright. They cannot be laying on their sides. You must secure the cylinders in place usually with bungee cords to prevent them from falling over.

Propane cylinders must be as far from the driver as possible and must be isolated from the engine and exhaust system, replica cartier clover necklace, which means putting them in the trunk if you're driving a conventional automobile. If you're driving a pick up, the cylinders can be in the bed of the truck, and they can be transported in the same enclosure as the driver of a box truck or single compartment van.

The total weight of the cylinders, including the propane they contain, cannot exceed 108 pounds. Since a filled appliance cylinder typically weighs 20 pounds, this requirement imposes a limit of five cylinders.

If the cylinders have safety caps to cover the valve opening, those caps must be in place. Only older cylinders lack these caps.

You can only transport propane in leak proof containers if you have an older cylinder you're not sure about, replica van cleef and arpels black clover necklace, don't use it.

You must place the cylinders on a flat surface, such as the floor of the car, a truck bed or the bottom of the trunk.

In Canada, replica van cleef rose gold necklace, regulations may originate from Transport Canada or from the CPA. They are essentially the same as the NFPA regulations with a few key differences:

You cannot transport more than five cylinders, replica van cleef blue necklace, but each cylinder can weigh as much as 66 pounds (34 kilograms). If you exceed this weight limit, your vehicle must bear a placard. You also need vehicle documentation, and the driver must be properly trained.

Ventilate your vehicle. CPA regulations do not proscribe transporting cylinders on the floor of a car behind the driver, but if you do so, you must open the windows.

Ventilate the trunk. If you transport propane in the trunk, you must leave the trunk open slightly for ventilation. The propane dealer typically supplies you with a latch for this purpose.

How to Communicate With an Unborn Baby

Before babies are born, replica van cleef tiger eye bracelet, they sleep, practice breathing, replica van cleef & arpels alhambra bracelet, swallow and even suck their thumbs in other words, act like babies. During their time in the womb, babies receive many types of stimuli from the outside world, including tastes, sounds and they can even perceive light. These are all forms of communication, whether intentional or not, provided by the parents. Conscious communication with your unborn baby can help you bond before the birth experience.

Step 1

Communicate verbally with your unborn baby by reading books aloud or speaking to him. According to Pregnancy Magazine, if your baby hearing is developing normally, he can hear sounds from outside the womb as early as 18 weeks. Your baby will most likely be able to recognize your voice after the birth because he heard it for several months.

Step 2

Play mimicry games with your unborn baby as a fun and carefree mode of communication. Tap on your stomach and wait to see if your baby kicks back. Dr. F. Renee Van de Carr, a retired obstetrician based in California, replica bracelet alhambra van cleef, explains that unborn babies can learn to respond to different kinds of stimuli, van cleef and arpels bracelets replica, including touch.

Step 3

Play soft, slow, calming music at the end of day to communicate that you ready to unwind. The Ask Dr. Sears website explains that babies often respond to classical and other soft music by slowing their movements; on the other side of the coin, babies who are exposed to heavy metal or loud music may kick more forcefully or frequently.

Step 4

Relax your body and exude a feeling of peace and stress free existence. Stress hormones rise when you uptight and may affect your baby, according to Ask Dr. Sears. Getting involved in a hobby you enjoy or other activities can help you communicate positive emotions to your baby.

Leicester's dream stays alive with late Ulloa winner

LONDON (Reuters) Leaders Leicester City belatedly grasped their golden opportunity to pile the pressure on their Premier League pursuers on Saturday as a late strike from Leonardo Ulloa sank struggling Norwich City 1 0 at the King Power Stadium.

With closest challengers Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal not in action until Sunday, Leicester had the stage to themselves to forge five points clear at the summit and made the most of their chance with a victory they scarcely deserved.

Even though the team produced one of the least convincing displays of their surreal season, Ulloa's 89th minute contribution, sliding in to knock home Marc Albrighton's cross, proved decisive for them.

It stretched Leicester's advantage significantly over the north London duo although both second placed Spurs, at home to Swansea City, and Arsenal, who visit Manchester United, can reduce the deficit to two points again on Sunday.

More importantly, it demonstrated to manager Claudio Ranieri that, following the heartbreak of the stoppage time loss to Arsenal a defeat his men had two weeks to stew over they are not going to be easily deflected from their title ambitions.

"We believed until the end," the Italian told the BBC. "This victory was very important to restart after the Arsenal defeat.

"I said before the Arsenal match that Norwich would be more difficult. The conclusion I have drawn from this is that my players believe until the end. For us, the next match is always the final match. That is our mentality."

Chelsea also provided a rare reminder of their champions' mettle, fighting back from a goal down to take an excellent 2 1 win at Southampton, with an 89th minute booming header from Branislav Ivanovic earning the spoils.

With Chelsea's Guus Hiddink and his former PSV Eindhoven player Ronald Koeman now doing battle as managers, it appeared the pupil might come out on top when Southampton took the lead through a Shane Long header just before the break.

Yet the visitors equalised through Cesc Fabregas in the second half, a goal which Koeman felt was lucky as his side had been deprived of what should have been a free kick moments before.

Afterwards, Hiddink, replica van cleef new bracelet, delighted that Chelsea had moved into 11th place under his soothing stewardship, reported that he was in no hurry to bring captain John Terry back into action after his recent hamstring injury.

"I hope that John is close to returning but we have a lot of games remaining. I don't want to take a big risk on his fitness, replica van cleef and arpels sweet alhambra bracelet," Hiddink told the BBC.

At the bottom of the table, Aston Villa's mission looked ever more impossible, with them still seven points adrift of the pack after a Marko Arnautovic double in the space of five minutes just after halftime helped Stoke City to beat them 2 1 at the Britannia Stadium.

Despite a late goal from Leandro Bacuna, Villa boss Remi Garde was left reflecting glumly to reporters: "We don't have enough quality."

In the day's early game, West Ham United surged into fifth place in the table in what has become their best ever Premier League campaign in their final season at Upton Park, holding off a stirring fightback from Sunderland to win 1 0.

A fine curling shot on the half hour from winger Michail Antonio, replica van cleef rose gold bracelet, courtesy of some poor defending from Patrick van Aaanholt, replica van cleef flower bracelet, sealed the points.

Yet for Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce, back at his former club, there was nothing but frustration as his side squandered chances to still lie 19th, a point behind Newcastle United and Norwich.

Bournemouth earned a valuable point in their relegation fight, a goalless draw at Watford taking them to 29 points in 15th place, five clear of the drop zone, even though manager Eddie Howe felt they had played well enough to earn the win.

The day's late game witnessed spectacular fare at the Hawthorns as West Bromwich Albion opened a three goal lead over Crystal Palace by halftime, including a first since October for Saido Berahino, only to eventually be left clinging on to a 3 2 win after a second half double from Connor Wickham.

Light is the Bright IDEA for Transport

When exploring a European city, one of the many differences an American might notice is how people get around. Look a little closer, and the traveler might notice differences in how things get around, too. cities, a more varied fleet that includes smaller, more efficient vans does the job in Europe, as in most markets outside North America.

A company in Anderson, Indiana, called Bright Automotive, which recently scored the first investment from General Motors' new venture capital arm, aims to help steer commercial fleets toward more efficient options by decoupling size from efficiency. In other words, it lets customers have their cake (sip less fuel) and eat it too (carry more stuff). To accomplish this, Bright is developing a plug in hybrid van called the IDEA with advanced materials that could shave thousands of pounds off the weight of conventional counterparts.

Bright vice chairman and founder John Waters caught the electric car bug in the 1990s when he was an engineer working on GM's electric EV1 model a project that made him realize he could "be part of the solution" for smog choked cities, he recalled in a recent interview. "That's what made it so crushing," he said, when automakers started pulling out of the electric vehicle game.

Waters, however, stayed in. Helping corporations like Alcoa and Johnson Controls craft strategies for alternative fuel vehicles, he became known among some clients for "preaching the gospel of electrification," said colleague Michael Brylawski. Today, that old electrification gospel enjoys a growing congregation, from Silicon Valley to Detroit to Capitol Hill.

According to GM Ventures President Jon Lauckner, GM hopes its $5 million investment and future collaboration with Bright will advance GM's work on plug in hybrid technology, fuel efficient propulsion systems, and alternative materials. At this point, said Bright CEO and Chairman Reuben Munger, the two companies have agreed to the idea of sharing parts, but they now have to go through the "engineering and legal exercise" of integrating GM parts into the IDEA design.

Having spun the company out of RMI in January 2008, Bright aims to commercialize the IDEA within a few years if long sought loans from the Department of Energy come through. Waters described the IDEA, unveiled in prototype last year, as a "physics based solution, van cleef arpel bracelet replica," a vehicle that employs lighter, high strength materials including an aluminum body and carbon fiber components as well as an aerodynamic design and other engineering tweaks to boost efficiency without shrinking cargo room. roadways with an average fuel economy of 12 19 miles per gallon. The company claims the IDEA can traverse about 38 miles in its all electric mode before it switches into a hybrid mode that gets between 36 and 38 miles per gallon.

GM Ventures' investment in the 30 person company comes at a time when GM is gearing up for the November launch of its Chevy Volt sedan, its first plug in vehicle since the EV 1, and a slew of other car makers have plug in hybrid and all electric models in the works. Power and Associates power train analyst Kevin Riddell, they are increasingly "open to many avenues," including partnerships with smaller, more nimble players.

According to Bright executives, the start up's real challenge will be competing not in the niche market for plug in vehicles, but rather in the broader market for commercial vans and trucks. As Brylawski, Bright's corporate strategy chief, put it, "That's the flip we're trying to pioneer."

Bright's target market is just starting to heat up in North America. Decades of relatively cheap and stable fuel costs in the United States have meant that many fleet managers have stuck with heavy duty vans and trucks as their mainstay, Riddell explained. Higher fuel prices and taxation (as well as narrow city streets and customer preferences) in European and other global markets have helped nourish demand for more small and mid size cargo vehicles in the commercial fleet market. These include the Renault Kangoo, Ford Transit Connect, Mercedes Benz Sprinter, Citroen Berlingo, Hafei Minibus, and Fiat Fiorino.

In Bright's view, the holy grail in this race is lower cost of ownership. Postal Service can "feel pain" on the order of an $8 million hit to its bottom line. Bright needs to persuade fleet managers to consider not just the initial purchase price of the vehicle, but the money they spend on fuel over the vehicle's life. Although as a plug in hybrid the Bright IDEA inevitably will cost more up front than traditional heavy duty vans, the company believes it can drive down fuel costs substantially.

Waters says Bright has been able to improve fuel efficiency in part by ignoring the auto industry's old mantra, "Lower your spec." Instead of urging its engineers to lower the cost of particular parts, Bright looks at the vehicle as a whole, with the aim of minimizing weight and drag . Ultimately these design choices could contribute to savings of up to 18 cents per mile and 1,500 gallons of fuel per year for some fleet customers. "There's no 'unobtanium' or magic materials," just a systems approach to engineering, said Brylawski.

For example, Bright has opted for a 13 kilowatt hour pack, smaller than the battery size most car manufacturers are eyeing for their plug in hybrid and electric vehicles. Increasing the size to 16 kilowatt hours could potentially qualify the IDEA for a higher federal tax credit, Brylawski said, but it "would have a cascading effect," forcing the company to beef up the entire vehicle to handle the increased battery size and weight. The result would be a vehicle that, despite the government subsidy, would cost more to own due to fuel costs than the version with a smaller battery pack and more streamlined design.

Plenty of hurdles remain for Bright and its IDEA, however. Amid the current swell of entrepreneurial activity around greener vehicles, "there are going to be a lot of failures," warned Lux Research analyst Jacob Grose,.

Financing has already presented challenges for Bright, which requested $450 million from the Department of Energy in December 2008. When the economic crisis hit, Bright slowed development on the IDEA, shifting gears to selling engineering services. The company also endured a shakeup among its executives, with Munger taking the reins as CEO after Waters stepped down this spring into the role of vice chairman. Said Brylawski, "We've kept the lights on for a year and a half by building and developing hardware."

Bright says it's now getting back on track to where it left off in 2008, and has scaled back its DOE request to a lower sum it declined to disclose. If approved, the funds would help Bright complete a few more iterations of the IDEA design, launch a pilot program and set up manufacturing. According to Brylawski, Bright needs at least three years to bring the IDEA to market after the project is fully funded. "The loan doesn't necessarily make or break Bright Automotive," he explained, "but it's a key ingredient for the IDEA."

At the end of the day, Grose argued, Bright will need to win over a large fleet operator who's looking to make a splash with green marketing claims, or who's willing to seed plug in hybrid technology on the bet that it will lead to cost savings down the road.

To Waters, van cleef mother of pearl bracelet replica, Bright's IDEA is a matter of "dollars and sense," and an opportunity to make an impact nationally through small changes for even one customer, if the fleet's large enough. But for Bright, said Grose, "even if they have the best technology around, it's a long road ahead."

Floating ferry removal options with pricey road, van cleef & arpels knock off necklace

Liberals are calling for public feedback on a proposal to replace the existing ferry links between the Lower Mainland, the Sunshine Coast and Powell River with a multibillion dollar network of roads and bridges.

A prime option would replace the existing Horseshoe Bay to Langdale ferry service with a $2 billion to $2.5 billion road and bridge crossing via the distinctive Anvil Island in Howe Sound. It would entail the construction of two 1.5 kilometre long suspension bridges, a major intersection on Highway 99 at Brunswick Point, a two lane highway across the north side of Anvil Island, van cleef necklace fake alhambra, and a 14 kilometre highway to link up with Port Mellon on the far side.

A similar road and bridge combination could supplant the existing ferry between Earl's Cove and Saltery Bay on the mid coast, crossing Nelson Island with lengthy suspension bridges on both sides. Price tag: $1.5 billion to $2 billion.

Also under consideration is a new 58 kilometre road link along Howe Sound, clover necklace replica van cleef, via Port Mellon to Squamish, priced at up to $2 billion or $35 million per kilometre. Projected cost is $2.5 billion to $3 billion and because of the roundabout routing and the lengthy travel time, neither ferry would be replaced.

By providing vehicle travellers with access to an undeveloped part of the coast, the latter option would be a throwback to the visionary road building of the provincial past. But are any of these options for the future? The road and bridge replacement for the Horseshoe Bay Langdale ferry would appear to be the most viable. By halving commuting time (including waiting time), it could transform the Sunshine Coast into more of a bedroom community for Metro Vancouver.

But with the current population of the coast hovering around 30,000, it would take a long time to pay back the $2 billion to $2.5 billion construction cost, even with the cash savings from eliminating the ferry subsidy.

The other possibilities discussed in the report are more speculative, including mentioned only in passing options of floating bridges and tunnels.

The responses from the online survey and the public meetings will feed into a process that includes a $250,000 technical study, due before the end of the year. Liberals would be prepared to commit much political capital to a multibillion dollar link to a riding, Powell River Sunshine Coast, held by the New Democratic Party Opposition.

"I've never heard as much talk about a fixed link as I have in the last four or five years," as three term NDP MLA Nicholas Simons said when the Liberals floated the idea earlier this year. Liberal challenger in the riding. He's Mathew Gordon Wilson, emphasis on the Gordon, for he is indeed the son of former MLA Gordon Wilson. Liberal, the Progressive Democratic Alliance and the NDP. advocate to the liquefied natural gas industry at $150,000 a year.

Wilson the younger, just 40, worked for the federal government as a transportation analyst and as a regional representative on the residential schools case. His official biography refers to his "multi generational perspective" on the political scene. His mother Elizabeth Kool, a former school trustee, and stepmother Judi Tyabji, a former MLA, both held public office as well.

When I spoke to him earlier this month, he said he has the "support of all my family" in seeking office and has "no illusions" about the rougher side of public life. But given how his family was put through the media wringer in the 1990s (you could look it up) I had to wonder if at least one relative did not first say: "Mat, what are you thinking?"

In any event, Wilson is the only declared candidate to make it through the approval process for a nomination meeting set for Nov. 12. New Democrat Simons, be it noted, won the riding last time by more than 5,000 votes. So no less than the proposed fixed link, Wilson would appear to be facing a steeply uphill fight.
