Crossing through the Dark Portal for the first time was a huge event in the WoW timeline. The journey through the Blasted Lands to the landmark was an adventure in itself on launch day, especially on a PvP server. Having the Horde and Alliance in the same place at the same time rarely ends without some sort of mischief. For The Burning Crusade, this mischief was trying to prevent players of the other faction from crossing over into Hellfire Peninsula by murdering them on their way up the ramp to the big glowing portal. Whether it was fun, or absolutely infuriating, that trip was certainly memorable. The other side of the portal wasn't bad either.
World of Warcraft players questing their way across the introductory zone were inevitably introduced to a new type of enemy in The Burning Crusade, the Fel Reaver. This huge mech would wander across the landscape, bringing instant death to whomever was unfortunate enough to attract its attention. Despite the fact that its heavy footfalls literally shook the screen, the Fel Reaver was shockingly sneaky and developed a reputation for surprising players at the worst possible times. While Illidan Stormrage was the ultimate villain of the expansion (and one of the most powerful characters in World of Warcraft) the Hellfire Fel Reaver was a much bigger menace for the average player.
Another memorable moment for The Burning Crusade players came when replacing their favorite epic gear with lowly greens. The bittersweet feeling of upgrading a piece of gear that may have been the result of months worth of weekly raids with a random uncommon green became the standard operating procedure in expansions, but was first introduced in The Burning Crusade. Even gear from Naxxramas, the final raid of the original game, was no match for the boosted power of those early The Burning Crusade quest rewards.
Hitting World of Warcraft's new max level of 70 was an accomplishment, but getting a flying mount was perhaps an even bigger one. Nowadays, flying mounts are the standard way to get around in World of Warcraft, but they were brand-new in The Burning Crusade. Originally, this type of mount was only useable within the Outlands, and cost a pretty penny. Getting one required quite a bit of work, but the first time that the winged beast leapt up into the air made it well worth the investment.
WoW players who were looking for a fresh start, or just wanted to take a break from their mains, had the option of rolling new characters as two new races were introduced to the game. The blue-skinned, space fairing Draenei sided with the Alliance, while the Horde was bolstered by the addition of the magic-addicted Blood Elves. After years of playing as the same starting races, playing as - or even just walked by - these fresh faces was an incredible moment. Both races were a blast to play, but the Blood Elves had access to the best song in The Burning Crusade.
While existing WoW Classic servers will be automatically converted to their Burning Crusade forms, complete with new races, class updates, and a whole new region of the Warcraft universe to explore, players don't have to journey through the Dark Portal and into the broken world of Outland if they don't want to. Whether it's to stay in the current form of WoW Classic forever or move into the future, Blizzard says the decision players make will be permanent to a point, though there is technically an option for players who want to have their cake and eat it too.
It's a tough decision for those who have spent hundreds of hours acquiring the best gear and items in WoW Classic, only for a new expansion to come and make the majority of that hard-earned loot obsolete. For those looking to stay in "vanilla" WoW and remain on Azeroth, here's what is known about the Burning Crusade's rollout and the options players have.
According to Blizzard, players will be able to decide the future of their characters when the Burning Crusade Classic pre-patch arrives on a yet-undetermined date. Once that happens, players will find two different clients of WoW Classic: one for the original version of the game, which contains "Classic Era" servers, and another for Burning Crusade Classic, which contains "Progression" servers. All of a given player's characters will appear in both of the clients. However, logging in to a character on a given client will ask the player if they want to "activate" that character on that particular version of the game. If a player activates a character on the Burning Crusade Classic game client, it will be unplayable on the original WoW Classic client (and vice versa).
The good news is players don't have to decide immediately on pre-patch day. The option will persist until a choice is made (or, presumably, until another expansion releases years from now). Players do technically have a way to take all difficulty out of the decision and choose both options, too: When the pre-patch arrives, Blizzard will be taking a virtual "snapshot" of each character in the game, including all that character's gear, gold, and items. For a fee, players will be able to "clone" their character snapshots. The original version of the character can move on to Burning Crusade Classic, while the cloned version can stay in the original WoW Classic, keeping all of their gold and items as snapshotted on the day of the pre-patch. Cloning, however, will cost real-world money, though Blizzard has not yet revealed the price.
The move comes courtesy of WoW Tokens, first introduced in 2015 as a way to exchange in-game gold for game time. Players can purchase WoW Tokens with gold, and are then free to trade them in a special marketplace. It’s similar to a system that’s been part of CCP Games’ Eve Online for some time.
Blizzard will now allow WoW Tokens to be converted into general Battle.net credit. That means players will be able to take any currency they may have accumulated on World of Warcraft, or even sell off items they might not be using, and convert it into loot boxes in Overwatch or packs of cards in Hearthstone.
So, if you’ve got some spare cash or high-level raid gear you’re no longer interested in keeping around, it might be a good time to cash out. The Chinese New Year has brought with it tons of new character skins, sprays and emotes for Overwatch.
Called the WoW Token, the in-game item works similarly to EVE Online's PLEX or Wildstar's CREDD. It needs to be bought for real money via the World of Warcraft in-game Shop, though the exact pricing is yet to be announced.
The buyer can then sell the WoW Token via the in-game Auction House's Token Exchange for in-game currency at a market price set by Blizzard, which will circumvent players trying to exploit the system.
The token is then bound to whoever buys it from the Auction House -- meaning each WoW Token can only be sold once -- and can be redeemed for 30 days' play time for the subscription-based World of Warcraft. It effectively allows players who have more gold than they know what to do with to play for free, while ensuring that Blizzard still gets paid for that game time. The going rate for a month's subscription is $14.99, the WoW Token will probably sit at a similar price, if not slightly higher.
It will also, Blizzard said, give players an option to effectively and safely (if circuitously) buy in-game gold, while hopefully cutting third-party gold sellers off at the knees -- a black-market system that relies heavily on hacked and stolen player accounts.
"We've heard feedback from players that they'd be interested in a secure, legitimate way to acquire gold that doesn't involve the use of unauthorized third-party gold-selling services--one of the primary sources of account compromises. We also know players who've amassed large amounts of gold through regular play would be interested in the ability to trade some to other players in exchange for game time, helping cover their subscription costs," Blizzard wrote in a FAQ.
"The WoW Token feature gives players on both sides of the equation a secure and straightforward way to make that exchange. It opens up a new kind of payment option for World of Warcraft players, and we hope that it will also help lead to fewer account compromises and a better game experience overall."

Zhu Min decided to put her three-bedroom apartment on the market two months ago. She had inherited the aging first-floor unit from her grandparents and felt it was time to trade it in for a newer, higher-floor unit, away from the noise and exhaust of bustling Chengdu, one of China’s biggest and fastest-growing cities. To get more China real estate news, you can visit shine news official website.
She got an agent through the country’s leading real-estate brokerage, Lianjia, who agreed to help her sell her apartment and hunt for a new one. Within a day, Lianjia sent a photography team to Zhu’s apartment, took panoramic footage that was uploaded to allow virtual “walkthroughs” of the apartment. Zhu was impressed with how realistic the digital viewing was.
“I’ve lived here for five years, and it was pretty much like actually being in my apartment,” she said of the virtual-tour experience. The next week she was busy showing the place to a stream of prospective buyers. She and one of them began haggling over the sales price.Few sectors have escaped the impact of the epidemic, which has brought China’s economy to a standstill. But the blow to some industries has been cushioned by an ability to continue business online.
Within China’s property market, a number of popular apps offer everything you’d need to find and buy a house — search functions with easy-to-use selection criteria such as location, price and unit type; realistic virtual-tour experiences; the ability to chat with agents and sellers; a section showing how “hot” properties are with real-time updates on how many people have viewed units; and even mortgage services.
Industry insiders were hopeful the rich digital experience would translate into at least some online sales. Buying a home is obviously a much bigger commitment than purchasing a microwave from Amazon AMZN, +2.08% , but Tesla TSLA, +4.43% has proven that customers are willing to plunk down sizable sums for items with which they may have no firsthand experience.
Xiao did hear of one exception — with a colleague at a different Lianjia branch in the city closing a sale without the buyer ever seeing the property in person. “But word is that the buyer is rich and this is just a second or third property as an investment,” Xiao said.
Newly released data show just how deep sales declines have been. New-home prices rose at their slowest pace in two years in January, due in large part to the standstill at the end of the month as the severity of the epidemic became apparent.
Prices for new homes inched up 0.27% from December to January in 70 big cities, China’s National Bureau of Statistics said. Sales of new and existing homes plummeted 90% from the same period of 2019, according to a survey by China Merchants Securities. A survey by Huatai Securities put that number closer to 98%.
February data are expected to be worse, as numerous cities have been put under lockdown, showrooms for many agencies were ordered closed, and potential buyers have been either unable or unwilling to view properties.
As with other sectors of China’s slowing economy, the hit to the property market comes as the industry was already experiencing pain. In an attempt to reduce a property bubble and rein in speculation, the government last year implemented measures to cool the market by restricting multiple-home purchases and tightening mortgage access.

Atlas Hotel Hoian preserves the magical charm of the once peaceful Old Town in Quang Nam, Vietnam.
