A thumbnail look at the players selected in the first round of the NFL draft Thursday night (x-denotes early entry).
1. Cleveland (0-16)
Baker Mayfield http://www.tampabaybuccaneersteamonline.com/vinny-curry-jersey , 6-foot-1, 215 pounds, Oklahoma
Article continues below ...Strengths: Accuracy, competiveness, and command of the offense. Gets the ball out quickly and decisively.
Weaknesses: Undersized. Elusiveness and mobility that was a plus in college might not translate to the NFL.
Fact: The former walk-on is the eighth player to win the Heisman Trophy and then be picked No. 1 in the proceeding draft. First since Cam Newton in 2012.
2. N.Y. Giants (3-13)
x-Saquon Barkley, 6-0, 233, Penn State
Strengths: Quick feet, sharp cuts, top-end speed, powerful lower body, solid pass catcher, willing blocker and, by all accounts, excellent work ethic.
Weaknesses: The one knock: He needs to use that power to run through more tacklers and push piles forward.
Fact: The first Penn State player to reach 3,000 yards rushing and 1 Authentic Tyquan Lewis Jersey ,000 yards receiving, and the 10th Nittany Lions running back to be selected in the first round of the NFL draft.
3. N.Y. Jets (5-11; from Indianapolis, 4-12)
x-Sam Darnold, 6-3, 220, USC
Strengths: Excellent arm, good size and can make accurate throws – or the occasional positive run – when the pocket breaks down. Works his progressions.
Weaknesses: Ball security. Ball security. Ball security.
Fact: Darnold is the fifth USC quarterback to be drafted in the first round since 1970, and the second to go in the top five to the Jets. New York took Mark Sanchez No. 5 in 2009.
4. Cleveland (0-16; from Houston, 4-12)
x-Denzel Ward, 5-10, 196, Ohio State
Strengths: Blazing speed, physical for his size, and gets his hands on a lot of passes.
Weaknesses: Any issues stem from size and strength, neither of which is optimal but have hardly held him back.
Fact: Sat out Ohio State’s Cotton Bowl game against USC, a decision he made late into game preparation. Ward is the fourth Ohio State player taken in the top 10 of the draft in the last three seasons.
5. Denver (5-11)
Bradley Chubb http://www.neworleanssaintsteamonlines.com/rick-leonard-jersey , 6-4, 269, North Carolina State
Strengths: Rushes with a good combination of power and speed, and varied moves. Holds his ground well against the run.
Weaknesses: Not quite the elite athleticism of a player such as Myles Garrett, which could limit his upside.
Fact: Wore No. 9 at N.C. State the last two seasons for former Wolfpack defensive end and No. 1 overall pick Mario Williams.
6. Indianapolis (4-12; from N.Y. Jets, 5-11)
Quenton Nelson, 6-5, 329, Notre Dame
Strengths: Maybe the most likely to succeed of any player in this draft class. Powerful, tenacious and sound.
Weaknesses: Not much to complain about. Could do better at getting off the line and getting to second level.
Fact: Nelson is the second Notre Dame offensive lineman taken in the top six in the past three seasons. Baltimore took tackle Ronnie Stanley at No. 6 in 2016.
7. Buffalo (9-7; from Tampa Bay 5-11)
Josh Allen, 6-5, 233, Wyoming
Strengths: Arm strength, athleticism, size. It’s all ideal.
Weaknesses: Accuracy and ability to change speed on his throws while still being on target.
Fact: Had no major college scholarship offers coming out of high school. Coached in college by the same head coach (Craig Bohl) and offensive coordinator (Brent Vigen) that Carson Wentz had at North Dakota State.
8. Chicago (5-11)
x-Roquan Smith, 6-1 Cheap Ed Dickson Jersey , 236, Georgia
Strengths: Excellent recognition, sideline-to-sideline range and athleticism, with coverage skills to keep him on the field on passing downs.
Weaknesses: A bit undersized and can get engulfed by big blockers – if they can get to him.
Fact: Won the Butkus Award as best linebacker in college football in 2017.
9. San Francisco (6-10)
Mike McGlinchey, 6-8, 312, Notre Dame
Strengths: Good athlete, solid technique and team leader.
Weaknesses: Could use more bulk and might be better suited for right tackle.
Fact: Four-year starter and team captain. Teamed with Quenton Nelson to form the best left side of an offensive line in college football last season.
10. Arizona (8-8; from Oakland, 6-10)
x-Josh Rosen, 6-4, 226, UCLA
Strengths: Polished passer with excellent mechanics and nice touch.
Weaknesses: Durability issues in college. Will force plays unnecessarily.
Fact: Was an elite youth tennis player. Is the fourth UCLA quarterback to be taken in the first round and first since Cade McNown in 1999.
11. Miami (6-10)
x-Minkah Fitzpatrick, 6-1, 201, Alabama
Strengths: Versatility, intelligence Cheap Lorenzo Carter Jersey , instincts, leadership and smooth athleticism.
Weaknesses: The nits to pick: He is not an explosive hitter and maybe he could use a few extra pounds.
Fact: Returned four interceptions for touchdowns in his first two seasons at Alabama. The Crimson Tide has had a first-round pick in 10 straight seasons, second longest streak to Miami’s 14 from 1994-2008.
12. Tampa Bay (5-11; from Buffalo via Cincinnati, 7-9)
x-Vita Vea, 6-4, 347, Washington
Strengths: Athleticism and quickness for his size outstanding.
Weaknesses: Production and playmaking inconsistent.
Fact: Played some wildcat quarterback as a 270-pound high schooler in San Jose, California.
13. Washington (7-9)
x-Da’Ron Payne, 6-2, 311, Alabama
Strengths: Massive and powerful with quick hands. Run stuffer.
Weaknesses: His pass rush is almost all power.
Fact: Caught a touchdown pass against Clemson in a College Football Playoff victory last year.

.EDEN PRAIRIE Authentic Ryan Jensen Jersey , Minn. (AP) The changes made to the offense in Minnesota for this season have helped propel the Vikings toward the top of the NFL, from a reimagined scheme to the running back replacements to a revamped line.
There’s been no better enhancement than Riley Reiff. The hefty contract the Vikings gave him in free agency has been well worth the salary cap space for a left tackle who has started all 10 games and has yet to allow a sack.
”Riley’s just a good, hard-working, lead-by-example guy, everything you want from an offensive lineman,” right guard Joe Berger said.
Article continues below ...”That’s what Riley’s got for us. He kind of leads the room that way, and we kind of all follow that leadership. I think we’ve got a good room that just kind of plays together well.”
Reiff took over as Detroit’s left tackle midway through his rookie year in 2012, when he was drafted in the first round out of Iowa. He kept that spot until last season http://www.detroitlionsteamonline.com/tracy-walker-jersey , when the arrival of rookie Taylor Decker, another first-round draft pick, triggered a move to right tackle.
The Lions let his contract expire, and the Vikings, so desperate to upgrade their most problematic position in 2016, gave him a five-year deal in free agency worth as much as $58.75 million.
Reiff will play his first game at Ford Field on Thursday as a visiting player, when the Vikings take on the Lions in a pivotal NFC North game.
”I’ve got a lot of good friends up there. It’s a tough place to play. I’m excited to go up there,” said Reiff Authentic Mark Walton Jersey , who’s the softest-spoken member of an offensive line that’s as low-key and spotlight-averse as can be.
Reiff was hardly Detroit’s trash, solidifying a critical position for one of the league’s most potent passing attacks, but he sure has been Minnesota’s treasure.
”We’re going up there trying to win a game. That’s about it,” said Reiff, dismissing any questioning from reporters about a desire to take it to a team that no longer wanted him. ”We’ve got a short week and a lot to prepare for.”
The Vikings (8-2) have already faced the Lions (6-4) this season. The 14-7 defeat at home on Oct. 1 was Minnesota’s last loss, actually, thanks to three lost fumbles and a ferocious performance by Detroit’s defense that featured two sacks by Anthony Zettel.
Pressure such as that on the quarterback last season was the primary reason why the Vikings collapsed following a 5-0 start. They used five different left tackles, with season-ending injuries sidelining Matt Kalil and Jake Long and opposing pass rushers overwhelming T.J. Clemmings. Jeremiah Sirles and Rashod Hill also saw time there.
Reiff’s presence as the bulwark protector of Case Keenum’s blind side has set the tone for this vast improvement by the group Redskins Troy Apke Jersey , with rookie center Pat Elflein also manning a key role and the 13-year veteran Berger playing as well as ever.
Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur has engineered a shift toward more zone blocking than man-to-man assignments, and an overall increase in athleticism for this unit has helped fuel a resurgence by the running game as well.
”The offensive line, thank goodness it’s been the strength of our football team this year,” coach Mike Zimmer said. ”I just like their toughness and their mentality and their grit and the way they go about their business.”
The protection of Keenum, who dodged a couple of likely sacks with his own awareness and mobility, helped the Vikings fend off one of the best players in the NFL in Aaron Donald and a dangerous Los Angeles defense on the way to a 24-7 victory on Sunday over the Rams.
The Vikings have the league’s best sacks-per-pass-attempt rate at 2.91 percent, with only 10 allowed in 344 opportunities. Since Keenum replaced the hobbled Sam Bradford late in the first half at Chicago on Oct. 9, he has only been sacked once in 5+ games.
”Case does a good job of getting rid of the ball Broncos Isaac Yiadom Jersey , and he’s pretty squirrely, squirmy,” Reiff said, adding: ”Receivers are getting open, running backs and tight ends are blocking. It’s a group effort.”

.PITTSBURGH (AP) Cam Heyward walked into the Pittsburgh Steelers locker room earlier this week less than 24 hours removed from a humbling home loss to Jacksonville http://www.pittsburghsteelersteamstore.com/mason-rudolph-jersey , his portable speaker blasting a playlist that served as a not so subliminal message for a team in search of good vibes.
Al Green was up first, singing about ”Love and Happiness.” Bill Withers followed, praising the optimism of a ”Lovely Day.”
”Just sometimes it just needs to even out,” Heyward said Wednesday. ”I don’t know if it’s a big thing or not, but positive energy is a good energy.”
Article continues below ...Something in short supply at the moment for the Steelers (3-2), who have spent a large portion of an uneven season trying to put the right spin on one off-the-field headline after another.
There was the ”botched’ decision to sit out the national anthem against Chicago last month, one that was meant to serve as a symbol of unity but ended with left tackle Alejandro Villanueva saluting the colors by himself while his teammates stood in the tunnel 50 feet away due to a miscommunication.
A week later wide receiver Antonio Brown held a one-sided bout with a water cooler in a moment of frustration after quarterback Ben Roethlisberger failed to find him running free early in a victory over Baltimore http://www.sanfrancisco49ersteamonline.com/jeremiah-attaochu-jersey , a ”temper tantrum” that led Roethlisberger to publicly chastise Brown multiple times and led to Brown issuing yet another in a growing list of apologies for diva-like behavior.
Moments after the Jaguars came into Heinz Field and dealt Pittsburgh its worst home loss in a decade, Roethlisberger sarcastically questioned whether he still has “it” after throwing a career-high five interceptions, a comment whose intent was lost in translation on social media and elsewhere.
Throw in Le’Veon Bell’s frustration over not getting enough carries against Jacksonville’s league-worst run defense and the Pro Bowl running back’s own Twitter battle with former Steelers safety turned commentator Ryan Clark and it’s easy to forget the Pittsburgh is in first place in the AFC North heading into Sunday’s visit to unbeaten Kansas City.
Center Maurkice Pouncey good-naturedly chalked up the melodrama to ”fake news.” Still, there’s also a sense that enough is enough.
”As a team I think we’ve got to learn how to grow up,” linebacker Ryan Shazier said. ”I feel like just the NFL in general just so much noise you hear every week and people just need to focus on football. We focus on football, then we’re going to be straight.”
While Roethlisberger stressed he hasn’t lost confidence in himself, he also bristled when asked if he’d like to get back to talking about his job instead of the latest dust-up for a team that can’t seem to go more than a few days without one.
”I think you guys are much more panicked than we are Cowboys Jihad Ward Jersey ,” Roethlisberger said Wednesday. ”As you can see I’m not really shaken by last week, or nervous and worried so we’re getting ready to go play football this week.”
Something the Steelers have done only sporadically well so far, fitting a pattern that’s become almost a rite of fall during the team’s run to three straight playoff berths. Pittsburgh starts off shaky, drops a couple of seemingly winnable games against teams with a lackluster resume then gets it together late.
In 2014, the Steelers were 3-3 before going 8-2 the rest of the way to win the division. In 2015, they were 6-5 heading into December but rallied for the wild card. Last year they found themselves at 4-5 after a last-second loss to Dallas before ripping off nine straight victories to reach the AFC title game.
This year was supposed to be different. So far, it’s not. Yet there are no concerns about a snowball effect from the distractions – each sparked by the actions of a player or players before mushrooming – having some sort of long-term effect.
”It’s a long season http://www.denverbroncosteamonline.com/courtland-sutton-jersey , not everything is going to be perfect,” Heyward said. ”There’s going to be tempers, there’s going to be stuff said. It’s just about tempers and focusing on what you can control.”
And that focus is on shoring up a run defense that’s been erratic and getting an offense long on talent but short on touchdowns into something resembling a rhythm and not trying to sew up any signs of dissension, because they insist there aren’t any.
”When we had that anthem thing, that’s probably the first time since I’ve been here we’ve had to really sit down and have a discussion on something other than football,” said Moats, who signed with the Steelers in 2014. ”Any other time http://www.seattleseahawksteamonline.com/will-dissly-jersey , it’s just media being media or just fans being fans and we just leave it at the door.”
Of course, Moats and the rest of his teammates know there’s one simple way to put it all to rest.
”Ultimately we go out here and win this week
, people won’t be talking about this anymore,” Moats said. ”Just got to go out here and win.”
NOTES: RT Marcus Gilbert (hamstring) practiced on Wednesday and expects to play against the Chiefs after missing three straight games. … Pouncey (chest) and G Ramon Foster (back) did not practice. … Shazier (quadriceps) was limited.

.SANTA CLARA http://www.newenglandpatriotsteamonline.com/trent-brown-jersey , Calif. (AP) Kyle Shanahan isn’t ready to decide between quarterbacks C.J. Beathard and Jimmy Garoppolo just yet.
The San Francisco 49ers coach is waiting to see how Beathard recovers from the hip and knee injuries that forced him out of Sunday’s loss to Seattle. Garoppolo replaced him late in the game, and now Tom Brady’s former backup could get his first start for San Francisco next week against the Bears.
Garoppolo threw a touchdown on the final play against the Seahawks after Beathard was sidelined with 1:07 left. Shanahan said he’ll announce his starter by Wednesday in order to maximize practice time ahead of Chicago.
Article continues below ...”To give those guys the best chance to be successful, you want to give them all the reps – which still isn’t enough reps,” he said. ”Any time you split those evenly, it’s kind of a disservice to both.”
Shanahan said Beathard has a knee contusion and a hip strain from a low hit by defensive end Michael Bennett during an incomplete pass on the final drive.
”It was nothing serious or long term. He was pretty sore today,” Shanahan said. ”(Beathard’s) pretty banged up Redskins Troy Apke Jersey , though.”
Garoppolo played the final three snaps. He scrambled for four yards, converted a fourth-down pass to Aldrick Robinson and threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Louis Murphy after rolling left.
Shanahan planned to talk with his coaching staff and break down game film of Chicago’s defense before choosing a starter. He watched tape from the Seahawks game Monday afternoon before addressing the media.
After the game, Shanahan said Garoppolo’s three snaps, including his impressive touchdown throw, won’t factor in his decision.
”Those plays have nothing to do with anything. That’s just running around and made a great play, but those have no bearing on it at all Lions Kerryon Johnson Jersey ,” he said.
Garoppolo was acquired from the Patriots before the trade deadline Oct. 31, and San Francisco is grooming him to start next season. The four-year veteran is slated for free agency after the season, but Shanahan said the 49ers are willing to give him the franchise tag to ensure he stays in 2018.
”When you’re making a long-term decision on someone for your organization, for you to pay him the amount of money that you do for quarterbacks, that’s a big deal,” Shanahan said. ”… So I think knowing how the franchise tag works and stuff is what made it kind of a no-brainer to make that trade. Hey Cheap Jihad Ward Jersey , you have this opportunity to get such a good player, what’s the negative? Well, you don’t want to lose him in six weeks or eight weeks. Well, if you have the franchise tag, you don’t have to ever worry about losing him.”
NOTES: Shanahan said OL Eric Magnuson (foot) and RB Raheem Mostert (knee) will be placed on season-ending injured reserve. Mostert led the team with eight tackles on special teams and handled kick return duties. Magnuson was injured early in the loss to the Seahawks and played through it. … OL Trent Brown, who missed the game with a shoulder injury Cheap Jonathan Cooper Jersey , will be re-evaluated before practice Wednesday. Magnuson took his place. … S Adrian Colbert (thumb) will be questionable to practice after having surgery on his thumb during the recent bye week.

SANTA CLARA http://www.newyorkgiantsteamonline.com/kyle-lauletta-jersey , Calif. (AP) After eight straight losses to open the Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch era in San Francisco, the 49ers finally won at something this week.
The Niners acquired what they hope will be their quarterback of the future when they dealt a second-round pick to New England for Jimmy Garoppolo.
They are still seeking their first win on the field and if they are going to get it Sunday against Arizona (3-4), it most likely will come without the help from Garoppolo. He is still learning the offense and only expected to play in an emergency.
Article continues below ...”We didn’t bring Jimmy here to save our season,” Shanahan said. ”We brought Jimmy here to improve this organization and we’re going to figure out the best way for him and the best way for our team how we go about that.”
The 49ers are looking for any kind of boost they can get to snap the worst start in franchise history. After becoming the first team to lose five straight games by three points or fewer, including an overtime loss in Arizona on Oct. 1, San Francisco has been blown out the past two weeks, getting outscored by 53 points against Dallas and Philadelphia.
”If you’re 0-8 Broncos Courtland Sutton Jersey , if you’re losing, something has to change,” receiver Trent Taylor said. ”You have to figure out what it is and figure out what changes to make.”
The Cardinals are looking to bounce back from their own blowout loss. Arizona fell 33-0 to the Rams two weeks ago in London and lost starting quarterback Carson Palmer to a broken arm.
After a bye last week, the Cardinals look to rebound behind backup Drew Stanton, who beat the Niners last year and in 2014 when Palmer got hurt.
”He makes plays to win games, and he doesn’t beat you,” coach Bruce Arians said. ”Some people call that a game manager. I call that a pretty good quarterback.”
Here are some other things to watch:
BANGED-UP LINE: The 49ers will have to play without left tackle Joe Staley Dolphins Durham Smythe Jersey , who broke an orbital bone when he was hit on a blindside block by Philadelphia’s Fletcher Cox last week. San Francisco at least should get its other starting tackle back with Trent Brown expected to move to the left side after missing last week’s game with a concussion. C.J. Beathard knows he will need to take some pressure off the line.
”I think if anything try and get the ball out quicker,” he said. ”Obviously you’ve got to trust the O-Line and your protection, stuff like that. It’s real. We’ve got a lot of guys injured right now.”
49ERS VS FITZ: Larry Fitzgerald’s game-winning 19-yard touchdown catch in Arizona’s 18-15 overtime victory over San Francisco was only the latest time he’s burned the 49ers. In 27 games against San Francisco, Fitzgerald has 158 receptions for 2,099 yards and 17 touchdowns. He has more yards receiving, receptions and TD catches than any other player against the 49ers. Fitzgerald needs 52 yards receiving to pass Hall of Famer Tim Brown into sixth place on the career list.
BEATHARD’S DEVELOPMENT: Beathard’s time as the starter in San Francisco is limited after the trade. He hasn’t exactly shined in his first two starts. He has completed just 52.7 percent of his passes, averaging 5.9 yards per attempt with two touchdowns http://www.denverbroncosteamonline.com/isaac-yiadom-jersey , three interceptions and a 65.2 passer rating. He has also been sacked 11 times on his 110 pass attempts.
”He has had some bumps in the road like first-time players will have and like a lot of veterans have, but I think C.J. has shown a lot of things that we’re excited about,” Shanahan said. ”I think C.J. will continue to get better. If we get better around him too, that will help him get a lot better also.”
CARDINAL FUNK: The Cardinals offense and defense are mired in a six-quarter funk. Since building a 31-0 halftime lead over Tampa Bay, Arizona has been outscored 66-7 in those six quarters. Arizona’s 33-0 loss to the Rams in London was the most one-sided regular-season defeat for the team in Arians’ five seasons. Among the statistics in that blowout, Los Angeles was 13 of 19 on third downs to Arizona’s 3 of 12. The Rams had 425 yards to the Cardinals’ 193. Adrian Peterson, after rushing for 134 yards in his Arizona debut against Tampa Bay http://www.seattleseahawksteamonline.com/dontae-johnson-jersey , gained 21 yards in 11 carries in London. Among the curious negative stats this season for Arizona, the Cardinals have yet to recover an opponent’s fumble.
MOVING BACK: Eric Reid’s move from saf
ety to linebacker for San Francisco might have been a short one. After playing the new position the past two weeks, Reid is expected to move back to his usual strong safety spot after Jimmie Ward went on injured reserve this week with a broken arm. Jaquiski Tartt will move from strong safety to free safety and Ray-Ray Armstrong should move back into the base defense at weakside linebacker.
