But whatever type a team chooses to use, the procedure is the same: The device is held by hand by a team staffer from behind home plate during batting practice and aimed at a player standing in the outfield. The staffer keeps moving the player until he is standing in the position the team wants, at which point he either must remember that precise location or, as the Dodgers requested, mark the spot in some way in the outfield.That is where the Mets objections came in.
