Teacher Van Cleef & Arpels gold ring imitation charged with sex assault on students

At least two former students from Toronto Waldorf School have come forward fake Van Cleef & Arpels ring with allegations of sexual impropriety involving Robert Pickering from 1985 to 1992, York Police said Friday.

The women, now in their late 30s and early 40s, were 17 years old when they claim they were taken advantage of by their teacher at the high school, which is on Bathurst St., near Hwy. 7, in Thornhill.

Pickering, 56, is still employed by TWS, police said. He is listed as teaching science, chemistry, physics, mathematics and music. He's also listed as a Grade 9 class advisor and guidance counsellor.

The Kettleby resident was charged Thursday with two counts of sexual assault and one count each Van Cleef & Arpels gold ring copy of sexual exploitation and seduction of a female between 16 and 18 years, police said.

TWS has been teaching kids from kindergarten to Grade 12 since it was founded in 1968.

"We recognize and welcome the unique gifts brought by each child we serve, and we are committed to supporting all of our students in their intellectual, physical, emotional and spiritual development," the school's mission statement reads on its website.

The current fee for one year of high school at Waldorf is $16,200.

"The safety of our children is paramount and York Regional Police will diligently investigate all instances of child abuse, including sexual assault," police said.

The accused teacher is expected to appear in court in Newmarket Friday.

"Investigators believe there may be more victims that have not come forward and are urging anyone with information to call police," police said.
