Texas City Requires Oktoberfest Costume Lingerie Store Get Food Permit for Selling Edible Undies

A Texas lingerie store owner says she’s shocked after Wholesale Babydoll Lingerie being told she is going to need a food permit in order to keep her business.

The health department said even though vxvxa001 Rosemary Benitez’s San Antonio store Shades of Love isn’t a restaurant, it still requires a food permit because it sells items like edible underwear, local news station KENS 5 reported.

Benitez told the station she Wholesale Babydoll Lingerie believes the permit, which costs about $230 a year, and the routing health department inspections that come with it are completely unnecessary.

“Everything in the box says 'novelty item' only... It's not something you sit down and actually eat. It's more for licking and tasting,” she told the station.

San Antonio's Sanitarian Services Manager, Stephen Barschewski, told the station, Any facility in the city of San Antonio that sells edible substance requires a food establishment permit. One, it's the law. Two, in case there's a recall, we certainly want to know the source.
