SAN FRANCISCO -- Jeff Samardzija struck out a season-high 10 for his first win since last August, leading the Chicago Cubs past the San Francisco Giants 8-4 on Monday. Joakim Nordstrom Blackhawks Jersey . Samardzija (1-4) allowed six hits and walked none in seven-plus innings. He also had an RBI double during a three-run fourth to help snap his 16-start winless streak. The right-hander entered with six no-decisions in his first 10 outings this year despite leading the majors with a 1.46 ERA. Nate Schierholtz hit his first home run of the season, and Darwin Barney drove in two runs to help the Cubs come back from a 3-1 deficit. Pablo Sandoval homered and drove in three runs for the Giants, who had won four in a row. Sandoval has five home runs and 12 RBIs in his last eight games. Yusmeiro Petit (3-2) gave up four runs and six hits in five innings while filling in for injured starter Matt Cain, who was scratched after exiting his last outing with a strained right hamstring. Petit struck out five and walked none. Left-hander David Huff allowed four runs and seven hits in 1 1-3 innings of relief as the Cubs provided plenty of runs to back Samardzijas long-sought victory. Chicago had lost nine of Samardzijas first 10 starts. He had not won since Aug. 24 at San Diego last season, even though he has allowed more than two runs only twice this year, including Monday. Cubs manager Rick Renteria pulled Samardzija after Angel Pagan singled leading off the eighth. It was the sixth time in Samardzijas career he had at least 10 strikeouts. Justin Grimm got three outs in the eighth and Neil Ramirez pitched a scoreless ninth. That Samardzijas skid ended at San Francisco -- which entered with the best record in the majors -- only made it that much sweeter. The Giants hottest hitter capitalized on two of the few mistakes Samardzija made. After Pagan reached when Samardzija dropped the ball for an error while covering first base, Sandoval singled with two outs in the first to give the Giants a 1-0 lead. The Cubs came back in the third on a solo shot by Schierholtz, a former Giants outfielder. Sandoval put San Francisco up 3-1 with a golf-like swing on a pitch that looked well below the strike zone in the fourth. Samardzija hit a tying, two-out double and scored on Emilio Bonifacios triple during a three-run fifth that put the Cubs in front 4-3. Welington Castillo and Barney each hit RBI singles in the sixth off Huff. Anthony Rizzo and Luis Valbuena each drove home a run in the seventh to extend Chicagos lead to 8-3. Brandon Crawfords RBI single in the seventh accounted for San Franciscos final run. NOTES: The Cubs activated OF Justin Ruggiano from the 15-day disabled list and optioned OF Ryan Kalish to Triple-A Iowa. ... Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Cain is progressing well and the team hopes the right-hander will take his next turn in the rotation Saturday at St. Louis. ... Tim Hudson (4-2, 2.13 ERA) takes the mound for the Giants opposite Chicagos Jake Arrieta (1-0, 2.33) on Tuesday. Keith Magnuson Jersey . Thats when the eight-time champion revealed that a painful back is slowing his serves -- and, all in all, giving him more trouble than his opponents so far. Jeremy Roenick Blackhawks Jersey . The 23-year-old Woods, Tiger Woods niece, closed with a 4-under 69 at Royal Pines to finish at 16-under 276. Lee also shot 69 in the event sanctioned by the European and Australian tours. Woods birdied the par-5 15th to open a two-stroke lead, hitting a wedge from about 120 yards to 4 feet.Theres a disturbing trend happening this year in the National Hockey League - players are getting suspended for dangerous hits at an alarming level. Tom Wilson of the Washington Capitals could be getting punished by the NHL Department of Player Safety after his hit Brayden Schenn on Tuesday night. Wilson has a hearing scheduled with the NHL for Thursday at Noon et. If NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan suspends him, that will make 10 suspensions in 11 days and 20 over two-and-a-half months of hockey so far this season. Not to mention the seven suspensions that were handed out in the pre-season. To make matters worse, it seems more players are getting carted off on stretchers this year than ever before. Players are just not getting the idea of what is legal and illegal. Or they just dont care. So what needs to be done for players to get the message and stop these sort of hits? They could make the suspensions harsher. Instead of giving David Clarkson and Dion Phaneuf just two games for their respected inciidents, how about sitting them down for five or more contests? Maybe the answer is to go after their wallets. Glenn Hall Blackhawks Jersey. . To many NHL players, charging $2,000, $5,000 or even $10,000 is a drop in the bucket. If the league increased fines dramatically (say, six figures?), players would probably be outraged but they might also think twice about hitting a defenceless player from behind. Rules changes could be another option. Modifying the laws of fighting and hitting could work. But players dont seem to be getting the idea as it stands, so any minor tweaks or changes could be irrelevant. Then theres the thought of sidelining an offender for however long it takes for the victim to get cleared by doctors for game action. Now its also possible that little can be done to prevent said injuries and suspensions. Maybe the players have gotten too big, strong and fast to prevent this type of thing from happening. All that considered, what do you think needs to be done to prevent the rapid rate of dangerous hits in the NHL? As always, its Your! Call.
