Practical Forgiveness from anus's blog
Students of a Course in Miracles (ACIM) will eventually set out to understand that forgiveness is the key principle to be learned and applied to our daily lives. It is the way we undo-options the guiltiness in the ego mind thus repairing the mind which is also known as forgiveness. While the Course provides theory, it is not an application solely on ideas. It is the request with how the Course is most concerned. Application leads to experience.
Why the Course is concerned with request of forgiveness is very straightforward when we look at the book descriptions. Remember, these are what we've all agreed to in the ego world so the Course chose these word symbols very carefully as their meaning in the mind is the experience (effect) you are asking to have (give to yourself). In this article, we are going to discuss practical forgiveness and what it is asking for in experience when applied to our daily lives.
Practical: Concerned with the actual doing rather than theory or idea.
Application: The action of putting something into operation.
Learning forgiveness is through the request of the ideas and ideas. You learn through experience. Do it everyday. Do it even on the small things. Train your brain in forgiveness so that it becomes a mind habit. That way, when a larger thing appears, which is activities like something you regard as to be different (a choice), you are more more likely to go directly to the forgiveness process because the habit in the mind goes towards what you allow it to do the most.
Correctable Mistakes
A static correction of the mind as forgiveness is a change that rectifies any error or inaccuracy in the mind. By definition, errors are "mistakes" and mistakes are "correctable errors. inch Therefore, anything in the mind that's not accurate or true is a correctable mistake. Accept that idea, and you can see the way to correct any mistake in the mind once you become practical and start applying forgiveness.
Decisions
The fastest way to understand and learn practical forgiveness is to accept that there is nothing being done to you. You are not a victim nor are you being unfairly treated. Absolutely everything is from decisions in your head and therefore, what you are doing it all to yourself. This puts the cause back in the mind with you and it is only here that you can make different choices to correct mistakes.
The mind is split and that means you are always deciding with one side or the other (ego or God). You cannot decide alone, not ever. In every decision, you research the mind for assist in deciding, i. e. who you agree with. To agree is to choose. It is always your choice as to which thought system you agree with (cause) and thus decide the experience you will get for yourself (effect).
Decisions with the ego wrong mind are judgments (opinions or a conclusion with ego meaning and interpretations on them). They are the errors or mistakes to be fixed. Where once you looked into the mind to agree with them, to give yourself that experience, now you must consider that they (both cause and effect) are not real and thus are correctable mistakes.
Not real
For any decision (cause) and its effect to manifest as a correctable error or mistake, it must be not true and not real. Let's look at the opposite descriptions:
Real: Something that holds true or actual, not imagined and real life.
True: Relative to reality and without variation; unchanging.
The Course says the ego thought system is not real and this world includes lots (imagined) from saying yes with it. If we look at this world, everything changes and nothing stays the same. Therefore, this world (effect) is not real life as it doesn't fit the descriptions. It is imagined, made up and not real. How you feel about it, the decisions we make (judgments) in the ego mind (cause) are also not real because it takes an not real cause to experience not real effects.
When you try looking in the mind and agree with the ego's model, you are choosing the experience of the not real for yourself; or as the Course says, a dream or an illusion. Perception is the great deceiver; and perception is why you have mistakenly (correctable error) believed the not real to be real.
Truth (what is true) is reality, unchanging, not imagined or made up. It is real life. Choosing this real and true side of the mind, or the right mind as your cause, leads to giving yourself the experience (effect) of what is real and true which is unseen. First, however, you must learn to forget the not real by neglecting your initial perception.
Overlook
You are just as capable of thinking (seeing) and choosing with the right mind thought system as you have been with the wrong mind thought system. You'll realize this when you completely acknowledge that you are the one choosing all the time. This full decision making ability is a necessary recognition if you want to purposefully choose with the right mind.
A distinct quality of the Holy Spirit right mind thought system is that it overlooks all error or mistakes. By definition, to overlook is "to disregard" and therefore it is neglecting the not real. Since your perception of what of is real is fake, forgiveness is about learning how to dismiss your perception of what you believe is going on. It is also about overlooking the ego's model (judgment) as well.
This is where you start choosing, purposefully, right minded thinking. You start thinking (seeing) with spiritual vision because as cause in the mind, you are saying yes (choosing) with this to be your experience for yourself (effect). Forgiveness or a static correction doesn't judge. It does not make error appear real. It overlooks error. It asks completely for the unseen experience of the truth, or what is real, to be returned in effect.
Learn to recognize all the ways you've chosen with the not real and then overlook (disregard) just as the Holy Spirit does. Practice right minded thinking. Take the not real to Him so he can do His job, i. e, replace the not real dream or illusion with the Truth.
The Unseen
Choosing with the right mind to revive what is rightfully yours is choosing the unseen. It is deciding to look beyond this world of changing and not real forms to the formless Spirit. If you are choosing to overlook as the right mind would do, as God Himself does, you are choosing to give yourself the experience (effect) of remembering Him. You are giving up all of this for Love. Ideas do not leave you (their source).
Your Part
The Holy Spirit is the Voice for God and he understands where you think and think you are in the not real. He does not believe any of it. You must train your brain to do exactly the same thing and take what you have overlooked for a static correction to Him so your mind is returned to God. Consistent choice this way, in a sustained effort, is the request of forgiveness. This is your part in the Atonement. a course in miracles podcast
Wholeness
True forgiveness tidies up the process of request. Having already initiated to consentrate right minded in overlooking the not real (correctable errors and mistakes), you must now think as the Holy Spirit ponders everything.
Remember: When you look into your brain, you are saying yes with the ego or God (cause) so for true forgiveness, you must think whole again which is thinking as the Holy Spirit thinks (spiritual vision) about everyone and everything. This is the experience you are choosing to give yourself (effect).
The Holy Spirit thinks of everyone and everything as being one, innocent (guiltless) and limitless. That is true perception, true right minded thinking and true forgiveness. Thinking whole again means you are choosing (agreeing) with the right mind (cause) to give yourself the experience (effect) of being one, innocent (guiltless), limitless and whole. You are choosing the unseen (real) in the mind and to return your brain to God.
Forgiveness is practical as it overlooks the not real and asks for the truth. At the same time, it returns the mind to right minded thinking. You are making the choices for the memories of the Truth the entire way by learning and then applying the process.
