1. My background
On my first try, I spend most of the time reading and preparing all night long, believing I will undoubtedly pass the NCLEX-RN because my nursing core is better than average. However, things were going the wrong way. I did fail the NCLEX-RN with 140 questions. I was shocked and embarrassed by the biggest question “Am I qualified to be a nurse?” However, I didn’t give up and conquered it the next time with 75 questions. Hence, the most important thing you should bear in mind is that you are not a loser or a bad nurse, keep doing it and you will succeed someday!

After the first try, I realized that only reading and taking notes is not enough. Sometimes, I read the text and thought that I memorized them all, but on the second read, nothing stay in my mind. I also struggled with the Pharmacology term as well, which lead me to the never-ending bunker. Then, I was taking some advice from my friends, and they told me practicing with NCLEX Test Pro can help.
I started to practice with NCLEX practice questions and only got 35% or 40% for each quiz. That knocked into my mind that I had studied improperly. Thus, I changed my study habit, from cramming as much as I can to having a detailed study plan. Luckily, I found out that there were NCLEX practice topics, which can help me a lot in determining which knowledge areas I need to improve.

Only 3 weeks later, my score has raised perfectly. Especially, Pharmacology can’t bother anymore. Then, I tried the NCLEX simulator test. I created tests has a familiar format with NCLEX to prove I do better than before. I think it’s a good tool to increase your ability as well as gain knowledge faster.
Besides, I spend time watching some tutorial videos, and listening to experts in NCLEX to get some helpful tips for the NCLEX exam, for instance, mnemonics, a very interesting field of nursing that any learners should know about.
3. Tips I wish I know the first time- Plan first: Don’t just jump into it without any plan. For example, the best plan for me is to spend 1-week studying Maternity, 1 week for Pharmacology, etc
- Practice frequently: I just want to say that NCLEX practice questions really can help. Explore their question bank and might be one of those will be on your test. I even met 10 questions I did in NCLEX practice questions.
- Break more: You don’t have to spend too much time a day studying. Each person has his own limit to imparting knowledge. Just take a break if you can’t hold it any longer.
- Stay humble: You did well in school doesn’t mean you can pass the NCLEX. Don’t over expectation on yourself because when you lose, it takes time to wake yourself up!
