There's a huge demand for RuneScape across iOS and Android. It has over 1.8 million players registered for OSRS Gold those versions. The company has filed two trademarks in the UK and in the US, one that reads "OSRS Gold" and another in the name of "RS Gold" The filing indicating that the company registered trademarks that use the phrases as words. This should stop third-party websites from being able to advertise that they sell RS Gold.

A simple Google search of the terms yields hundreds of websites, majority of them using one of the terms in their URLs. These websites offer currency in RuneScape in exchange for real money. This followed the news on October 13 that Jagex announced that it was ending with "real-world trading". In a post to its blog "The RuneScape Team" stated that "gold bought through RWT real world trading is a problem in every online game with exchangeable currency."

Jagex promises to have to send "messages to those we've identified that are engaged with"RWT" within "the next few hours". "For anyone who was involved, we want to emphasize that this is your single and only warning," Jagex added.
