40-52 is a good range, but I would recommend going with Granite Crabs. It is MUCH less costly than the other alternative, Bull Ants and it's really difficult to RuneScape gold obtain the marigolds for Bull Ants. To make Granite Crabs the whole way, you'll require 4,010 plain pouchesand gold charms iron ore and 28,050 spirit shards. This will cost you in the high 600k's, to lower 700k's.

Between 52 and 55 you will create Spirit Terrorbirds. You can keep these pouchesbecause they are helpful, of empty pouches, 220 gold charms, raw bird meats and the 30,000 spirit shards needed. I am currently using this as my setup for mage, I use the Helm of Neitiznot (Acctually provides a small defenes bonus and magic attack plus prayer). Ancient Staff/Drag Dag P++/Whip (They actually don't reduce magic attack bonus plus I like casting them manually while holding a melee wep so I can freeze them in place and then DDP++ spell them or cheap RS gold just whip)
