Child injured at new swimming lake in Beckenham Place Park from freemexy's blog
A child was taken to hospital following an incident in the new wild swimming lake in Beckenham Place Park.An air ambulance along with other emergency services were called to the scene in Beckenham on Monday (July 22) following reports of an incident.Children swimming in Shanghai
The child received minor injuries.A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called by the London Ambulance Service on Monday, July 22 at around 3.40pm to report of a child in the lake.
"The emergency services attended and child came out of the water. He has minor injuries."In response to the news of Monday's incident, one person who has been to the swimming lake said: "It happened to us."We were watching the kids, there were three of us adults and three children. We saw my granddaughter go under and my daughter ran in immediately and got her out.
"It’s the deep dips under the water, it’s not a shallow paddling area, they won’t be going in there again. A third commented: "I was there today and a total of five children were out of their depth. I had to jump in and save one."But the Lewisham Council website clearly states younger children are forbidden to swim in the lake.
It says: "No-one under the age of eight can swim in the lake although children can paddle for free in the shallow area."This way of managing the lake is a trial for summer 2019. Later in the year we will look at how effective it has been and work out if it’s something we want to continue with."The wild lake has a shallow beach which is suitable for children, but some parts of the water are 3.5 metres deep which will be better for more experienced swimmers.
