A singular scentsation

Rich, sensual and wearable florals of all kinds are bursting into bloom throughout the scent world. And that's good news for copy bracelets like cartier love scentophiles. 'A fragrance based on a favourite flower can be a wonderful short cut to a scent you'll wear and love,' says Nick Gilbert (Les Senteurs' fragrance consultant who, at 27, is something of a perfume prodigy). 'The new florals aren't fusty and musty: contemporary perfumers have an ability to strip away a floral till it leaves transparent, light, sparkling elements that truly create the illusion of the flower in question,' he says.

The other great advantage: bottled flowers don't need digging, weeding or pruning. Just apply to your pulse points (see below) to drench your senses. There are dozens of new florals, and some blooming classics are enjoying a renaissance, too. So the question is, which flower do you love the most? Just follow your nose and let that steer you towards a perfect petal (or two)

We all know about dabbing scent on the wrists and the neck, but we have many other pulse points. 'Be bold and play with applying scent to the temples, jaw line, just above the insides of your ankles and the backs of the knees,' says Nick Gilbert, 'not to mention, more saucily, the navel and between the breasts this is a lovely one because the fragrance wafts upwards towards the nostrils. Scarves also hold perfume beautifully just double check using a sheet of kitchen roll that there's no staining from the scent before you spritz.'
