American Gary Russell dominated Jhonny Gonzalez en route to a fourth-round technical knockout on Saturday to seize the Mexican's World Boxing Council (WBC) featherweight world title.
Gonzalez had no answer for Russell's speed and power.
Russell knocked down Gonzalez three times in the fight - once in the third round and twice in the fourth Adidas Superstar Argento Saldi , with referee Tony Weeks calling a halt less than a minute into the round.
"This is the kind of performance I -expect, but you can't get these every time," said Russell, who was making his second bid for a world title after losing in June to Ukrainian southpaw Vasyl Lomachenko in a World Boxing Organization title bout.
"We put the work in at the gym. We grind three times a day, hard," said Russell, who indicated after the fight he wants a -rematch with Lomachenko.
Russell knocked Gonzalez down with a big left-right combination at the end of the third round, Gonzalez regaining his feet just as the round ended.
Russell opened the fourth by landing a flurry of blows to Gonzalez's head and body, a left to the head sending him down again.
Gonzalez rose but was clearly hurt when the action resumed, and another flurry from Russell sent him down again and had Weeks stepping in.
Russell, a 2008 Olympian, improved to 26-1 with 15 knockouts while Gonzalez fell to 57-9 with 48 wins inside the distance.
Gonzalez was making his third defense of the title he won for the second time in 2013.
Gonzalez first won the crown in 2011 but lost it in 2012 when an accidental head-butt brought an eighth-round end and a loss to Daniel Ponce de Leon in Las Vegas.
SHIJIAZHUANG, July 20 (Xinhua) -- At least one was confirmed dead and eight others went missing, after heavy downpours began to hit north China's Hebei Province on Tuesday.
The Hebei Provincial Meteorological Bureau on Wednesday morning issued a red rainstorm alert, forecasting more heavy rains in the coming hours.
Red is the most serious in China's four-tier color-coded system for severe weather.
The one death and one missing were reported in Luluo Township, Xingtai City. While, seven others missing were reported in Handan City.
In the provincial capital of Shijiazhuang, 13 underpasses were waterlogged.
The maximum rainfall up to 500 millimeters hit Cixian County.
The provincial land resources bureau warned disasters of landslides and mountain torrents.
HARBIN, Heilongjiang Province, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Halfpipe, a popular discipline in the snowboarding world championships held at Yabuli ski resort of northeast China, was cancelled due to venue problems on Sunday.
The cancellation decision is made out of athletes' worries after rainfalls a week ago damaged the track condition. "The U pool is not good enough. It's not flat and the radian is not standardized now. The scheduled pre-game trainings and qualifications have been postponed a couple of times, so we're worried about athletes' injury snowboarding on the pool," said swiss rider Verena Rohrer.
WCS 2016, the top event organized by TTR Pro Snowboarding and World Snowboard Federation and Yabuli ski resort, set up three disciplines of halfpipe, slopestyle and big air from March 9 to 16, drawing over 200 athletes and coaches from 23 countries and regions to the tournament.
"The rainfalls on March 3 and 4 in Yabuli resort had harmed the venue a lot. Snow conditions still can not meet the competition requirement though we tried to mend it up many times. For the sake of athletes' safety, we decided to cancel it,"said Reto Lamm, president of TTR.
"We invited expert riders from many countries this time, so we change the halfpipe competition to exhibition and American snowboarder Shaun White will enter the U pool," Lamm said.

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. — Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber dropped out of the BNP Paribas Open on Saturday and two other top-seeded women also exited in the second round at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
The second-seeded Kerber, from Germany, lost 7-5, 7-5 to Denisa Allertova of the Czech Republic in the opening match of the day on the main stadium court. Fourth-seeded Angelique Garbine Muguruza of Spain dropped a 7-5, 6-1 decision to American Christina McHale, and sixth-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain withdrew because of a right ankle injury.
Kerber, who beat Williams for the title in Australia, led Allertova 4-2 in the second set but got down 6-5, then double-faulted to give Allertova match point and hit a forehand long to finish off her third straight opening-match loss in the event.
"I was trying to find my rhythm and play my game but it was not my day," said Kerber, who still is adjusting to the time demands that go with being a Grand Slam champion. "The pressure is much different than it was a few months ago, it's a completely new situation for me, but I'm trying to get used to it. I will try to learn from this experience, this match, and get better in the next few weeks."
Seventh-seeded Belinda Bencic of Switzerland survived with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory over U.S. wild-card Lauren Davis, and No. 9 Roberta Vinci of Italy held off Margarita Gasparyan of Russia, 6-3, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (5).
But the big winner was Serena Williams, who didn't play — she'll face Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan on Sunday — and seldom needs any help.
The top-ranked Williams is in the top half of the bracket with No. 3 Agnieszka Radwanska, a possible semifinal foe, No. 5 Simona Halep, a potential quarter-final opponent, and No. 8 Petra Kvitova. Bencic and Vinci are the highest seeds left in the bottom half of the bracket.
