Friday's testimony centered on Holmes' apartment a few miles from the theater, that he had elaborately but ineffectively "booby- trapped" to create a diversion away from the surprise attack he unleashed at the Century 16 Theater in the Denver suburb of Aurora.

Had Fonzi entered the apartment and touched a trip wire, she would have been triggered an explosion and been engulfed in the inferno staged by Holmes, according to FBI bomb experts.

Adams County Sheriff Shane Heiter, who helped dismantle the incendiary devices rigged by Holmes, testified Friday the carpet " sloshed" with gasoline when he later walked across Holmes' living room.

Bomb experts say the apartment building would have burned to the ground, creating a diversion planned by Holmes to draw rescue personnel away from the theater, thus maximizing the carnage he carefully planned.

Testimony revealed Holmes had rigged three different ways for his apartment to explode, but all failed.

Holmes was arrested without resistance by alert police responders shortly before 1 a.m., just minutes after unloading three weapons into the packed theater and walking calmly out of the back door.

He soon confessed his nearby apartment was rigged to explode, and at shortly after 2 a.m., about 20 bomb squad and SWAT team members descended on the 1690 Paris Street brick apartment building.

Fonzi fell back to sleep, but only minutes later was jolted awake again by a "loud crash coming from the back of the building" as a heavily armed, black-clad SWAT team smashed through the apartment's rear door.

Adams County Bomb Squad Sergeant James Gerdeman then walked his 800-pound robot up the vacated building's stairs to the third floor.

From safe outside the building in a van, Gerdeman controlled the robot to blast off the door lock using a shotgun round, then nudge it open slightly to look around using four video cameras from slightly different angles.

Gerdeman narrated a 15-minute robot video shown in court Friday and fielded pointed questions from prosecution lawyer Rich Orman. The video showed dozens of incendiary devices that cluttered the apartment floor, including Napalm, set by Holmes to explode.

Holmes has plead "not guilty by reason of insanity" after firing hundreds of bullets into an unsuspecting theater crowd watching the midnight premiere of "The Dark Night Rises" on the hot summer night in 2012.
