"Detailing and designs are crucial when you are making a mobile that's worth Rs 450 c. You cannot afford to slip up on the customer delivery part," believes Frank Nuovo, creative director and designer, Vertu.
Manufacturing has to be extra meticulous, especially when dealing with precious components like the ruby bearings that go in keypads, the gold and platinum plates for the exteriors. The process is completely manual.
So, that's all about the body, but what about the technology? The mobiles are really a piece of art that, at best, are show off pieces. As far as technology goes, they are no better than a Nokia 6600. The surprising bit is that the phone sports no camera and that's a company policy.
"How many millionaires and tycoons whip out their phones and take pictures? The phone camera is of no use to our customers," reasons Nuovo, who shifted gears from designing Nokia phones to classic editions at Vertu.
To set itself a class apart, the manufacturer offers concierge services for its users. The massive Jewel Court had been exquisitely draped from ceiling to floor to create a magical dining room for the opera crowd. Standing at attention were smartly dressed women in very high heels and classic black cocktail dresses passing out Chinese red and gold embossed envelopes each containing three two dollar bills, a custom of the Chinese New Year meant to bestow good luck and prosperity upon the recipient.
The sold out, pre opera dinner crowd of some 150 patrons contributing $1,000 or more per person had come to support the Pacific Symphony's fifth semi staged production of Puccini's "Turandot."
The setting in Jewel Court was nothing short of spectacular for the Thursday evening celebration. South Coast Plaza's Lunar New Year exhibit,van cleef and arpels clover fake necklace, the centerpiece of the party, consisted of an 18 foot tall money tree adorned with whimsical flower ladened monkeys in honor of the New Year symbol of prosperity and rebirth. LIULI crystal sculptures by artist Loretta Yang were surrounded by spectacular florals interspersed with flickering candles, adding to the overall first class tone of the evening.
Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve, Stag's Leap Karia Chardonnay and Migration Russian River Pinot Noir flowed freely, served in oversized tall stemmed crystal wine goblets.
The Pacific Symphony President John Forsyte joined Music Director Carl St. Clair and his wife, Susan St. Clair, in table hopping throughout the party, welcoming patrons, thanking them for their support and sharing insider tips into the creation of the massive opera production, which was set to debut at the Ren and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall later that evening.
In between dinner courses, the opera lovers were treated to musical performances including a piano solo by Rueibin Chen and a duet by violinist Navid Kandelousi and yangqin player Lily Yuan.

I recently became addicted to WoW. out of a month I played for nearlya week straight. Finding good people to group with orpeople on the same quest is very difficult. Just the other day a guy wasgetting swarmed and almost dead so I went over to help him out. If I hadnthelped he would of died. Afterwards he tells me to stop attacking what he isbecause there is plenty for everybody. There are so many tards playing thisgame its rediculous. it had the feel of ammorpg but also the same problems. After saying all this for those of you that haveexplored most of WoW is it worth all the time? im trying to resist loggingon and just picking up guild wars when it comes out.
