KANSAS CITY, Mo. Chad Williams Jersey . -- The Blue Jays recalled outfielder Anthony Gose and selected the contract of infielder Steve Tolleson from Triple-A Buffalo in an attempt to jumpstart their struggling offence before Thursday nights series finale in Kansas City. To clear roster space, Toronto optioned infielder Jonathan Diaz to Buffalo and designated outfielder Moises Sierra for assignment. "Just looking to beef up the offence a little bit, and add a little team speed, something we dont have a lot of," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. The 23-year-old Gose was in the starting lineup Thursday night, batting ninth and playing left field in place of Melky Cabrera, who left Wednesday nights game when he was hit by a pitch. Cabrera walked through the clubhouse with his bruised left shin tightly wrapped but without a noticeable limp, and Gibbons said its possible he could pinch hit against the Royals. Gibbons also said its possible he could play Friday night when Toronto opens a series in Pittsburgh. "Hes doing better," Gibbons said. "He got hit pretty good, but theres no crack (in the bone) or anything like that. He just got hit square." Gose has spent parts of three seasons with the Blue Jays, hitting .238 with three homers and 23 RBIs in 109 games. Hes known for his speed but also his strikeout rate, and Gibbons said Gose must get that under control if hes going to stick as the clubs fourth outfielder. "When it comes down to the big leagues, its about production," Gibbons said. "Thats why its so hard to make the big leagues for any length of time. Guys go up and down." Tolleson, who was hitting .236 in 19 games for Buffalo, provides some versatility with the Blue Jays heading into interleague play. He has played in both the infield and outfield, though Gibbons said its likely he will platoon with Chris Getz at second base. "Maybe get a little more offence out of that spot," Gibbons said. "Hope he does something." T. J. Its the byproduct of having an unrivaled fan base and expectations that anything less than a league title is unacceptable for management. "To be honest it was time. Every couple of years a team is going to have to go through changes to grow and you get a certain amount of time with a certain group of players, and if you dont win you change it," Seattle midfielder Brad Evans said. "Most of the time its your star players you try and change and bring them in with other well-known players around the league and thats just the nature of the game and thats the business part of it. It kind of is what it is and we did lose some big names and some very good players but I think weve brought in some great players to fill in the shoes. And I think the group is a little bit stronger." Seattle will go into the 2014 season with the same belief that anything less than an MLS title is not success. But theyll do it with a completely overhauled roster, the result of the slide at the end of 2013. The question of whether changes were needed stretched from the bottom of the roster all the way up to coach Sigi Schmid. Eventually, general manager Adrian Hanauer and majority owner Joe Roth decided keeping Schmid and remodeling the team was the path Seattle would travel. It wasnt a complete overhaul. Evans is still around. So is Lamar Neagle, Obafemi Martins and rising homegrown star DeAndre Yedlin. Midfielder Osvaldo Alsonso was rewarded with a designated player contract and Seattle is about to get its first full season with Clint Dempsey on the roster. But the names that are gone are notable. U.S. national team striker Eddie Johnson is now with D.C. United. Defensive centre backs Jhon Kennedy Hurtado and Patrick Ianni are gone. Midfielder Mauro Rosales is now with Chivas USA. Goalkeeper Michael Gspurning is back in Europe. Its a completely new look for Seattle and only success on the field wwill determine whether the right choices were made. Chad Williams Womens Jersey. "Its not really up to me what changes we make on the roster but the new guys have been great and very positive," Yedlin said. "They are good players and Im excited to see what they can bring to the team." The additions made by Seattle arent on the same level as the move last summer to bring Dempsey back from Europe. But they could end up being more important. Up front, Seattle brought in veteran striker Kenny Cooper, along with Chad Barrett and Tristan Bowen. In the midfield, Seattle acquired Marco Pappa through allocation when he decided to return to MLS from Europe. Chad Marshall, who played for Schmid in Columbus, was acquired in a trade to anchor the middle of Seattles defence. And former Toronto goalkeeper Stefan Frei was brought in to compete with 41-year-old Marcus Hahnemann for the starting job. "It is pretty obvious the mentality they are going for," Neagle said. "They want to be more aggressive and a lot more pressure and I think the guys theyve brought in have that same mentality, so its nice. Its easy to get on the same page when you have similar guys on the field." While all the roster changes mean some sort of acclimation period, how Dempsey fits during his second season will be watched closely early in the year. His first few months with Seattle late last season were a disappointment as the American star recorded just one goal and one assist in his nine games. Getting fully entrenched as Seattles leader will be difficult this season as well with Dempsey likely getting called away for U.S. national team duties even before training camp for the World Cup in Brazil starts in May. Dempsey may not even be available for Saturdays opener after being called into national team duty for an exhibition match against Ukraine. "Were still getting to know each other. Were still getting to know what the tendencies are of each player, but I like the spirit of the team, I like their attitude," Schmid said. MILWAUKEE -- For about a three-minute stretch of the second half, Milwaukees Brandon Knight just could not be stopped. Adam Shaheen Youth Jersey . A quick first step to get to the hoop for a layup. A rousing dunk on the break off a high outlet pass saved by teammate Ramon Sessions. A back-breaking 3 from the wing. Knight scored 11 straight points during a stretch between the third and fourth quarters to help the Bucks erase an 18-point deficit and defeat the Orlando Magic 105-98 on Monday night. The Bucks fed off their lead guard once Knight got going. "He was attacking, finishing, finding guys and making plays for us," said Khris Middleton, who added 21 points and three crucial 3s in the fourth quarter. Maurice Harkless had 14 points to lead seven players in double figures Orlando, which got guard Victor Oladipo back after the rookie missed two games with left ankle soreness. Oladipo finished with 12 on 5-of-6 shooting off the bench. The Magic just had no answer for Knight. "I thought his aggression as far as attacking the basket was a huge plus," coach Larry Drew said. A game between two of the worst teams in the league -- the Bucks and Magic had combined for 95 losses coming into the night -- turned into an entertaining affair down the stretch that saw the Bucks snap a three-game skid. Several times early in the contest, it looked as though the Magic would hold on for their fifth road victory of the year. But the stretch run belonged to Knight, who had an emphatic answer to start the fourth quarter to answer two buckets by Oladipo that ended the third. "NBA games are extremely long and an 18-point lead in the first half doesnt mean a lot," Orlando coach Jacque Vaughn said. Knight nearly singlehandedly blew past Orlando to start the fourth. A layup with 11:21 left gave Milwaukee a 72-71 lead, its first advantage since the quarter. Then came Knights dunk. Rookie Giannis Antetokounmpo threw a high pass downcourt back to Sessions, who jumped with one arm outstretched and got the ball to the streaking Knight for the throwdown. After another missed Magic shot, Knight hurt Orlando again with a 3 from the wing for a 77-71 lead with 10:30 left. "Its real frustrating. We were playing basketball the right way. But we stopped playing team ball," said Tobias Harris, who scored all 11 of his points during a 13-0 run in the first half that allowed the Magic to build a 31-13 lead. Knights hustling play was in stark contrast to a lethargic Bucks squad that couldnt hit shots and appeared to be just standing around the hoop defensively during Orlandos early spurt. "I just wanted to come out and be aggressive, come out and be strong and attack the basket," Knight said. "We were able to get out and get a lot of easy baskets, so that got us in a good rhythm and we were able to steamroll from there. Not quite, even if Middleton added three fourth-quarter 3s to help the Bucks build its own double-digit lead. The lead swelled to 95-81 with 2:49 left before Orlando mounted its own late charge to get within three off a 3 from Jameer Nelson with 35 seconds left. But the Bucks hit their foul shots late and Orlando was hurt after Nikola Vucevic was whistled for an offensive foul with 22 seconds left. Nelson finished with 13. Sessions had 16 points and eight assists and went 6 of 6 from the line. Sessions combined with Knight to effectively lead the Bucks up-tempo attack in the second half. Even Oladipos return couldnt help Orlando. The rookie said after the game he wasnt working out or shooting for about a week because of his sore foot, so Vaughn eased Oladipo back into the rotation Monday. "I felt like I was kind of slow with my reaction time because I havent played in a while. Still no excuse," Oladipo said. "I feel like I let my team down a little bit today but Ive just got to keep growing and getting better." NOTES: The Magic fell to a league-worst 4-30 on the road. ... Vucevic finished with a double-double off 12 points and 12 rebounds. ... Knight extended his career-best streak of scoring in double-digits to 18 straight games. ... PDO is nothing more than a combination of shooting percentage and save percentage, expressed in thousands. It’s a simple calculation, but imperative when conducting analysis and forecasting future outcomes. The theory behind PDO is that shooting percentage is primarily luck-driven, and save-percentage is primarily luck-driven, and at the team-level, teams will consistently regress towards this 1,000 (i.e., the league average) number. Teams with extremely high PDO’s, say 1020 and above, are great bets to regress unfavorably. Teams with extremely low PDO’s, say 980 and below, are great bets to regress favorably. From time to time, we’ll see small deviations in genuinely great and genuinely terrible teams. But in most cases, it simply pays to (a) be skeptical that any percentage-fueled run is real; (b) focus on winning the shot-differential battle, because shot-differentials will predict future outcome far better than past shooting and save percentages will. PDO was at the heart of the 2013-2014 Toronto Maple Leafs debate – a team whose predictable and catastrophic end-of-year collapse pushed professional hockey into the analytics era. A bunch of smart hires were made by organizations around the league, and it seemed as though the debate over percentage-fueled runs and team-level shot quality myths were put to bed. Still, there seems to be some lingering doubt. Many, many words have been spilled about the 2013-2014 Colorado Avalanche, a team that – despite endless precaution – decided to double-down on mythological shot quality, ignoring innumerable red flags in the process. It wasn’t just the Avalanche organization buying stock, either. Bovada, an online sportsbook with a vested interest in outcomes, opened with Colorado as a 98.5 point team. On the other hand, that same online sportsbook opened up with the New Jersey Devils as an 83.5 point team – 15-points less than Colorado. Are these two teams fifteen points different? It’s possible the answer is yes, but not in the way you’d think. First, let’s look at each team’s ability to control play via Corsi%, starting with game one of last season and running it through today’s data. We’ll use a 10-game rolling average to smooth out results. Not a whole lot has changed from last year to this year, which is signified by the vertical line at the game 82 mark. New Jersey has consistently earned a better percentage of the shot-share, never once dipping below the 50% threshold over any 10-game stretch. Mitchell Trubisky Womens Jersey. Colorado, on the other hand, has been consistently subpar at controlling play. Other than a five-game window (31-36), they’ve been regularly under 50%. If you looked solely at the possession numbers and were aware of the tight correlation between controlling the puck and winning in today’s NHL, you would think that New Jersey was a playoff caliber team. Colorado? A lottery team. But, the hockey gods are funny sometimes. We know Colorado’s off to a horrendous and predictable 3-6-5 start, but the possession numbers don’t explain why things suddenly went south. Nor does it explain why New Jersey – who was a possession world-beater last year – failed to make the post-season. So, let’s go to the percentages, captured by the aforementioned PDO. Again, it’s more or less a measure of “puck luck”, and the likelihood of a team’s number regressing to 1,000 is extremely strong. We’ll roll Colorado and New Jersey’s PDO over 10-games to again smooth things a bit. Colorado sat well above the 1,000 mark for the vast majority of last season. New Jersey sat well below the 1,000 mark for the vast majority of last season. Whereas Colorado (8.07% Sh%, .931 SV%) saw all of the bounces at 5-on-5, New Jersey (7.12 Sh%, .914 SV%) did not. I think the dividing vertical lines on both of these graphs are amazing in the sense that they capture precisely what we’re looking for in terms of forecasting future outcome. When it came to a team’s ability to control play at 5-on-5 via Corsi%, both teams in 2014-2015 are reasonably near their respective 2013-2014 performance. This is because puck possession is repeatable. On the PDO graph, it’s the total opposite. The shooting and save percentages have flipped entirely, which is consistent with what we have seen in PDO volatility across many different teams over many, many years. New Jersey may have made the right move going from Martin Brodeur to Cory Schneider, but a goaltending switch wouldn’t explain how the team jumped from 26th to 14th in shooting percentage seemingly overnight. Randomness, of course, would. Combine that with generally out-possessing the opposition, and you have a respectable 6-4-2 record. On the Colorado side, the team has seen somewhat unfavorable percentage luck, but it’s far closer to the league averages than anything the team experienced last year. And, of course, the team is still getting drilled in the shot department. It’s a combination that generally ends up in fan bases paying attention to the draft lottery, rather than preparing for the post-season. OXNARD, Calif. Cheap Air Max 2017 . -- Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says former defensive tackle Josh Brent is out of rehabilitation and could have his future with the NFL resolved before the team leaves training camp in California in two weeks. Jones said Wednesday from training camp that Brent was released from rehab this week. The 26-year-old Brent was convicted in January of intoxication manslaughter for the December 2012 crash that killed Jerry Brown, a Cowboys practice squad player. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail and 10 years probation. He left jail last month and entered a rehab facility in Dallas. A spokeswoman for the Dallas County District Attorneys Office didnt return a message, and NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league had nothing new on Brents case. Brent retired last year and will have to apply for reinstatement. He could face a suspension under the leagues personal conduct policy. The release from rehab came about the same time the Cowboys lost rookie defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence for at least two months with a broken right foot. Dallas is revamping its defensive line after releasing franchise sacks leader DeMarcus Ware in March. Brent had been a backup but was starting at the time of the fatal crash in the Dallas suburb of Irving. "He has played at a level before that would help us, yes, and obviously were trying to build this defensive line," Jones said. "I know that one thing for sure, he is contrite and I know he feels one of the best ways to pay his debt to what he feels to the family is to do what he does the best and that is be a football player." Brent crashed his Mercedes sedan on the way back from a nightclub. Brown was in the passengers seat. Witnesses recalled seeing Brent trying to pull Brown from the wreckage of the vehicle. Tests later showed Brent to have a blood-alcohol level of 0.18 per cent, more than twice the legal limit for drivers in Texas. Browns mother, Stacey Jackson, testified she had forgiven Brent. Brent and Brown were college teammates at the University of Illinois and roommates in Texas, where Brown was a practice squad linebacker for the Cowboys. "He can be a great example," Jones said. "Theres no place like the NFL to rehab your credibility or show that you are contrite. Its a great opportunity for him under the circumstances to have made the mistake that he made to do some real good, help a lot of people and basically leave a better taste in peoples mouths about Josh Brent." Colorado Springs, CO (SportsNetwork. Chad Williams Youth Jersey .com) - Will Conant booted a 39-yard field goal as time expired and Air Force played spoiler with a 27-24 win over 21st- ranked Colorado State on Friday. Colorado State faced a 3rd-and-2 from the Air Force 42 with under a minute remaining when Jasen Oden Jr. was stopped for no gain. The Rams gambled on fourth down, but Dee Hart was also stood up and the Falcons took over with 38 seconds to play. On 3rd-and-4 of the ensuing possession, Nate Romine fired to Garrett Brown for 26 yards, setting up Conants game-winner. Romine, who made his first start of the season, was only asked to throw 15 times for the run-heavy Falcons (9-3, 5-3 MW). He completed just six passes for 135 yards while racking up a team-high 61 yards and a touchdown on the ground. D.J. Johnson and Shayne Davern also scored on the ground for Air Force, which finished the regular season with a 6-0 record at Falcon Stadium. The loss overshadowed another big game for CSU receiver Rashard Higgins, who led the nation in yards heading into this week. Higgins made a career-high 12 receptions for 193 yards and a pair of scores. Garrett Grayson threw for 366 yards, three touchdowns and an interception for the Rams (10-2, 6-2), who had won nine straight. Their loss opens the door for the winner of Saturdays matchup between Boise State and Utah State to advance to the Mountain West title game. Grayson found Higgins for 22 yards on the second play of the game, then went to him on 3rd-and-9 and extended Colorado States drive with an 11-yard pickup. On the very next play, Higgins caught a 31-yard pass down the left sideline. Grayson and Higgins put the stamp on a dominant first drive with a 7-yard touchdown connection. The dynamic sophomore made four catches for 71 yards on the 9-play scoring drive. Jalen Robinettes 47-yard catch on the first Air Force series led to Johnsons 5-yard TD run to tie the game at 7. Jared Roberts kicked a 30-yard field goal to cap CSUs next series, but Air Force scored 10 straight points before halftime. A 12-play series that spanned the first and second quarters culminated with a 1-yard Davern TD run, and Conant was pure with a 33-yard field goal later in the half to send the Falcons into the break with a 17-10 lead. Romines QB keeper with 3:09 left in the third quarter put the Falcons up by two touchdowns. Late in the third, Grayson scrambled on third down and found Xavier Williams near the sticks in traffic and the redshirt freshman did the rest, turning on the jets and outrunning the entire Air Force secondary for a 76- yard touchdown. After Romine was sacked on third down and Air Force punted, CSU marched down the field in seven plays. On 3rd-and-goal from the 2, Grayson lofted a fade to Higgins in the back right corner of the end zone, and Higgins made a diving catch to tie the game. Grayson was picked off by Weston Steelhammer on CSUs next drive. Game Notes Steelhammer has an interception in three straight games ... Air Force has won five of six overall ... The Falcons have won nine of 10 in the series ... Air Force ran for 242 yards as a team ... Hart had 115 yards but was kept out of the end zone. He had five rushing touchdowns and a receiving TD last week against New Mexico. Dorian Johnson Cardinas Jersey . Tyler Zeller scored a season-high 18 points and grabbed a career-best 15 rebounds, Kyrie Irving added 14 points and the Cavaliers pushed their winning streak to five games Tuesday night with a 114-85 victory over the skidding Philadelphia 76ers.TSN Baseball Analyst Steve Phillips answers several questions surrounding the game each week. This weeks topics include comparing Bryce Harpers playoff record to Mickey Mantles, the more intriguing LCS matchup, Kershaws playoff struggles and Mattinglys job security. 1) The Division Series saw some dubious stats comparisons: Bryce Harper tied Mickey Mantle (amongst others) for all-time post-season home runs before the age of 22 (with four) and Nelson Cruz passed Babe Ruth for all-time post-season home runs (16). Do these records mean much, given that the records being broken are from players whose only post-season games were in the World Series? Make no mistake about it: Bryce Harper hitting four homers before the age of 22 and Nelson Cruzs 16 career post-season homers are special accomplishments. It is amazing. Stats tell a story about patterns of behavior/performance. They only have meaning, though, in comparison to something else. The reality is that the sheer number of homers doesnt tell the whole story. The number of games played and at bats matter. The post season is different now than it used to be. We have more rounds now, which give todays players more opportunities to accumulate stats. Bryce Harper is not Mickey Mantle but any player earning four post-season homers before the age of 22 is special no matter how many games it takes to get them. By the way, it took Mantle 59 at-bats for his homers and took Harper just 40. Nelson Cruz has hit his 16 homers in 138 plate appearances, while Ruths 15 homers came in 129 at bats. Many people look at baseball today and say that the talent is diluted compared to the eras in which Ruth and Mantle played. Expansion has spread the talent across more teams. They believe that todays numbers are fortified by lesser competition. That is not necessarily true. Remember Ruth played in the era of segregation, when the best African American and minority players werent allowed in the major leagues. Therefore, his performance was enhanced by lesser competition too. Other factors to consider today are that stadiums are more hitter friendly and the pitchers mound was lowered in the early 70s to provide another advantage for todays hitters. Dont forget that Cruz was found to have used PEDs in his career. I dont know for sure when or for how long he did, but I assume the effects of the drugs may have helped him for some number of his homers. The bottom line is that whether you played in the 1920s or 1960s or in the 2010s, hitting post-season homers should be celebrated. For the record I will take Ruth and Mantle over Harper and Cruz on my team. 2. The LCS match-ups could not be in greater contrast. In the American League, the Orioles and Royals meet with a combined World Series drought of 60 years. In the National its the Cardinals and Giants, who now have seven combined NLCS appearances between them over the past five seasons, including a previous head-to-head match-up in 2012. How will these match-ups stack up against one another in terms of entertainment value? I believe there will be more interest in the National League Championship Series than the American League Series. Fans like name recognition and brand recognition. That is what garners more interest than anything. Pitching matchups also pique fans interest and the Madison Baumgarner vs. Adam Wainwright matchup will be phenomenal. I cant wait to watch it. The ALCS will be interesting for those that watch it but the casual fan might not take the time to sit and view. James Shields vs. Chris Tillman doesnt stimulate the senses quite like the names in the NLCS. I think both series will be interesting and exciting. The Giants and the Cardinals are pretty evenly matched. The Cards have a slight edge in starting pitching because I prefer Adam Wainwright over Madison Baumgarner in the head-to-head match-up of aces. The bullpens are comparable, although I like the strikeout ability of closer Trevor Rosenthal of the Cards over the contact style of Giants closer Santiago Casilla. Offensively, neither team possesses great power but the Cards have better overall lineup. Giants manager Bruce Bochy is the best in the game today and has an edge over the Cards Mike Matheny despite his early success at the helm. Im picking the Cards to win the Series in seven games. The Royals and Orioles starting rotations are pretty comparable. I give the edge to Kansas City because they are led by Big Game James Shields. Shields has previous playoff experience with the Tampa Bay Rays, which will prove helpful in this series. The bullpens are both very good, but again I give the advantage to the Royals even if set-up man Kelvin Herrera is hurting. Defensively the Royals have been playing out of their minds this post-season. Their outfielders have run down just about everything the opposition has hit in the air that hasnt gone over the walls, advantage Royals. The Orioles offence is far superior to the Royals. They have much more power and quick-strike production. Although the Royals hit several homers in the ALDS, they are by far more of a manufacturing offense than a power club. The Royals have great speed on the bases and that will be a challenge for the Orioles, yet having to lump multiple hits together for a single run could be a problem for the Royals. Oppositely, the Orioles are often in scoring position when they are standing at home plate with their power. The differential between the two offenses is more substantial than the Royals advantage in pitching and defence. Add the five-day layoff after the ALDS that hurts the Royals more than the Orioles, and Ill pick the Orioles to win the series in six games. I believe the ratings for the NLCS will be better than the ALCS. I just ask that fans give the AL series a chance. I think you could really like the type of game the Royals and Orioles play. Plus, the fans in these two cities are rabid right now, they are desperate for a pennant. That always makes the games more interesting. 3. The Dodgers got bounced in four games by the Cardinals, despite getting two starts in the series from ace Clayton Kershaw. Haason Reddick Womens Jersey. Did Kershaw choke? If not, who should be held accountable for the loss after a 94-win regular season? For the record, I hate the word choke. Sometimes players get the job done and sometimes they dont. The same player may get the job done in a critical situation one time and not the next time. That doesnt mean he choked. Clayton Kershaw threw six innings of one-run baseball in Game 1 before things blew up in the 7th inning. Does that mean Kershaw choked? Not for me. He pitched great for six innings and then choked? No! So what happened in the 7th inning? Baseball happened! Rather than criticizing Clayton Kershaw credit the Cardinals for taking advantage of the situation. They made him pay for his mistakes. They found holes and they put up eight runs before you can say Red Schoendist. In Game 4 Kershaw threw six shout out innings before getting tagged with a three-run homer by Matt Adams. Kershaw made very few mistakes in that game despite pitching on three days rest. He unfortunately hung a curve ball and Adams hit it out of the park. Since it went out of the park Kershaw choked? No way. That ball could have easily been a line drive right at some one for an out. It could have been caught at the wall or hit off the wall and the game could have been dramatically different. No one is to blame. Just give credit to Matt Adams. Clayton Kershaw does not have great post-season numbers does that make him a choker? The same is always said about Peyton Manning in football. He has all the MVP awards from great regular seasons but only one Super Bowl championship. They call him a choker. For the longest time Barry Bonds was called a choker because of poor post-season performance. That is until he finally hit in the post-season. Alex Rodriguez was the same way. Forever he was ripped in New York for being a poor post-season hitter until he hit in the post-season. Give me the player who continuously gets me to the post season and sooner or later he will perform then. Talent always finds a way. Give me Peyton Manning over Eli Manning everyday of the week. Doug Fister of the Nationals has pitched in three elimination games for in his career and his teams have won all three with him getting two of the wins. Ryan Vogelsong of the Giants is 3-0 with a 1.19 ERA in five post-season starts, while Clayton Kershaw is 1-5 with a 5.12 ERA in his career. I will take Kershaw over both of them without hesitation. If I could draft one pitcher today to start Game 1 for my team in the 2015 playoffs I would choose Clayton Kershaw. Give me the best player with the most talent and I will take my chances. The Dodgers lost to the Cardinals because their team got outpitched and outhit. Sure Kershaw has a share in that but they would never have been in that position without him. He can pitch for my team anytime. 4) After the Cardinals defeated the Dodgers on Tuesday night to advance to the NLCS you would have thought that it was an upset the likes of Appalachian State beating Michigan or the 1980 US Mens Hockey team defeating the Soviets. There was slight acknowledgment of the Cardinals great play but mostly everyone wanted to crush the Dodgers for the loss. Specifically, fans and media are screaming for Don Mattingly to lose his job. The argument is that since the Dodgers had the highest payroll in the game, the season is a failure if they dont win the World Series. In fact, the Dodgers had somehow assumed the expectations of the Yankees. Heads must roll if the Dodgers didnt win the World Series. I mean, really, what was Mattingly thinking pitching Clayton Kershaw (21-3 1.77 ERA), the best starter in baseball? How did Mattingly not know that his ace, who will win both the NL Cy Young Award and MVP, would lose two games in the series? How dare he bench Yasiel Puig in Game 4 after he had struck out in eight of his last nine at-bats? The Twitter-sphere was abuzz with criticism of Mattingly for pinch running with Puig in the ninth inning while pinch-hitting Justin Turner. Why wouldnt he have batted Puig and run Turner instead? Why did Mattingly opt not to pinch-hit Puig who had a measly four homers and 17 RBI after the All Star break? What is so impressive about Turners .419 batting average with runners in scoring position? People couldnt believe Mattingly could have been so stupid. The fact is that the Dodgers lost to a very good team in the Cardinals. There is no shame in losing to them. The Dodgers won the NL West title for the second straight season. Under Mattinglys leadership they have gone from 82 wins in 2011 to 86 wins to 92 in 2013 and 94 this year. They advanced to the NLCS last season where they lost to the Cardinals. This season the Cards got them in the NLDS. How can this be looked at as failure? This Dodgers team was a tough one to manage. Just because a team has the highest payroll doesnt mean that it is as easy as just rolling the bats and balls on the field and writing a line-up. It takes work. Mattingly earned his money. It started the season with having four everyday outfielders for three positions. The call-up of two young outfielders made the juggling of playing-time even more difficult. Yasiel Puig is a handful who lives recklessly and plays recklessly. He made the most outs on the bases and he ran until he was tagged out at times. Puig has a bit of an attitude that at times rubbed his teammates the wrong way; there were several issues between Puig and his teammates this season. Hanley Ramirez can be a bit moody too. I understand that the Dodgers had the largest payroll in baseball, but the notion that it is a failed season if they dont win a World Series is absurd. Its arrogant. There are plenty of other good teams in baseball too. Remember it is not always the best team that wins but the team that plays the best. Don Mattingly did a good job this year and any thought of his termination is crazy. KANSAS CITY, Mo. Adidas Pure Boost . - Three weeks ago, the Kansas City Chiefs were charging toward the top of the AFC West. They had as much momentum as anybody in the league, winners of five straight. They had just beaten the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks. They also had barely heard of Latavius Murray.Everything changed over four quarters in Oakland, though. The Chiefs struggled through the rain against a team that had lost 16 straight. Murray needed only four carries to run for 112 yards and two scores before leaving with a concussion. And the Raiders squeaked out a 24-20 win that started Kansas City (7-6) on a disastrous three-game skid. Now, the Chiefs are in playoff peril as they prepare to face the Raiders (2-11) on Sunday. In much the same way their season did an about-face with their first meeting, the Chiefs hope to turn things around when the longtime rivals meet again at Arrowhead Stadium. We still got a chance, Chiefs defensive tackle Dontari Poe said. Long as we got that and were trying to push, were going to keep moving. Theres really never any pointing fingers.Maybe thats because there are more places to point than fingers to do the pointing.Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith has been sacked 11 times in two games. Kansas City still does not have a touchdown catch from a wide receiver. Running back Jamaal Charles is banged up, as is tight end Anthony Fasano and linebacker Tamba Hali. The Chiefs run defence has been gouged by everyone. Their pass defence hasnt fared much better lately. With games still to go against Pittsburgh and San Diego, two teams also in the playoff mix, the Chiefs may be reaching the point of no return against the Raiders. The positive is there are some things we can do here to fix the issues, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. They are not things that we cant work out.The Raiders (2-11) could be an ideal get-right opponent, provided its the bunch that was whacked 52-0 by St. Louis two weeks ago and not the one that stunned San Francisco last week.Murray missed the Rams game while recovering from his concussion, but the break-out second-year running back returned to run 23 times for 76 yards against the 49ers.We missed him for that St. Louis game, but he came back last week, played in the game, did a nice job, Raiders coach Tony Sparano said. Hell be ready to go.With their season slipping away, the Chiefs insist theyll be ready, too. Here are some things to watch for in Sundays game.TRAINERS ROOM: Charles, Fasano and Hali all missed practice this week with knee injuries, and missing any of them would be a blow to the Chiefs. Charles is their most dynamic playmaker and Fasano helps to carve out holes for him. Hali helps to keep league sack leader Justin Houston from getting double-teamed. Next man up, weve got to go, Smith said.FAST CARR: The Raiders Derek Carr is coming off the best game of his rookie season, completing 22 of 28 passes for 254 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. He threw for 174 yards with a touchdown and no picks against Kansas City earlier this season.POWERFUL TRUCK: Khalil Mack may hit like, well, a Mack truck, but he hadnt been hitting the quarterback much until only recently. The Raiders first-round pick had his first sack in Week 11 against San Diego, and is coming off his first two-sack game against San Francisco. Thats the part of my game that Ive always thought about, he said, making plays in the backfield.SWISS CHEESE: Running backs have merely had to pick their hole against the Kansas City run defence lately. The Chiefs have allowed at least 100 yards rushing in six straight games, and at least 200 yards in two of them. Even without star running back Andre Ellington, the Cardinals still ran for 141 yards last week. They make plays, too. Theyre professionals, linebacker Joe Mays said. We just have to work on our stuff in practice and be better.GOING FOR TWO: Oakland will be trying to win back-to-back games for the first time since Weeks 7 and 8 in 2012, and win on the road for the first time in 10 games. Theyre calling it a revenge game. Were knowledgeable of that, Raiders tight end Mychal Rivera said. We know that and were going to come in with the same kind of mindset.___Online:AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL Adidas Original Femme Pas Cher .Y. - Through three quarters, the Brooklyn Nets could not shake the NBAs worst team. Andre Drummond contributed 17 points and 22 rebounds, and D.J. Augustin added 11 points and 10 assists off the bench. Detroit has won three straight games, all of which coming without forward Josh Smith, who was released and has since signed with the Houston Rockets. The Pistons set a franchise record with 17 triples in a win over Cleveland on Sunday, then registered 14 shots from beyond in this one, led by the 9-of-11 effort from Meeks. Detroit coach Stan Van Gundy returned to Orlando after spending five seasons leading the Magic, highlighted by a trip to the NBA Finals in 2008-09. He took the past two years off before accepting the position in Detroit. Our bench turned it around in the second quarter and then I thought our starters did a better job in the third, Van Gundy said. Victor Oladipo led the Magic with 16 points and Tobias Harris deposited 15, while Nikola Vucevic had 10 points and five rebounds. We need production from our guys every single night to get the win, Magic coach Jacque Vaughn. They made shots. Meeks then got hot in the second, scoring 11 straight Detroit points at one juncture, including three consecutive 3-pointers. His 3-point barrage spearheaded a 13-6 run that Drummond capped with a dunk to give the Pistons a 46-37 edge. The Magic closed to within three minutes later after an Elfrid Payton layup. However, Meeks and Anthony Tolliver both knocked down a 3 around a Vucevic jumper to help Detroit to a 54-47 lead at the break. After Oladipo hit a pair of free throws to open the third quarter, the Pistons embarked on a 20-7 run that Brandon Jennings capped with a trey at 3:47. The Pistons led by as many as 18 in the quarter, but a 14-4 run from Orlando closed its gap to eight prior to Kentavious Caldwell-Popes jumper that made it an 80-70 game entering the fourth. UNIONDALE, N. Cheap UA Shoes .Y. - The Boston Bruins worst period was also their most prolific in a win over the New York Islanders. After a dominant first in which the Bruins scored only once on 18 shots, Boston overcame sloppiness in the second and scored three times en route to a 6-3 victory Monday night. The line of Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand and Reilly Smith combined for three goals and six assists to power the Bruins offence that has scored 12 goals in two games. "Were expected to do a job out there," said Marchand, who had a goal and three assists. "We got contributions from every line. Thats how we win games and what makes us so tough to play against." The Bruins have had trouble with the Islanders this season, dropping the first two meetings before avoiding a series sweep Monday. Boston, which has won four of five (4-0-1), is not used to a speed game. The Islanders used that element to offset the bigger Bruins, who took four leads before putting New York away. "It wasnt the type of game that we like to play," said Bergeron, who had a goal and an assist. "They are a team that likes that. That run-and-gun type of game is not really our style." Loui Eriksson, Carl Soderberg and hulking defenceman Zdeno Chara added goals for the Bruins. Chad Johnson gave Tuukka Rask the night off and made 34 saves. Charas goal 8:12 into the third made it 6-3 and chased Kevin Poulin from the net in favour of Evgeni Nabokov, who came off the injured list earlier Monday following his second groin injury. The goal was the 500th NHL point for Chara, chosen by the Islanders in the third round of the 1996 draft. "I am very fortunate to play in this league for so many years," Chara said. "Points have always been secondary in my view, but if I can contribute offensively it is a big plus." Kyle Okposo, moved off the top line, had a goal and two assists for the Islanders, and Frans Nielsen and Michael Grabner also scored for New York, which lost its third straight (0-2-1) heading into its outdoor game at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday against the Rangers. Poulin made 30 saves. "We played well but didnt bury enough changes," Okposo said. "We have to get over this loss and come back strong against the Rangers." The Bruins recorded 18 of the first 20 shots. Eriksson made it 1-0 at 7:47 when he scored his sixth goal and first in 12 games, dating to Nov. 25. Momentum shifted with 7:50 left in the first when the Islanders received their first power play. They didnt convert, but found their game. The Islanders got four of their 12 first-period shots during that power play and got even when Nielsen netted his 18th goal with 4:31 left. New York started the second period on the power play after Chara took a penalty for throwing a retaliation punch at Cal Clutterbuck. But again the Islanders fell behind. Marchand made it 2-1 at 4:50 when he took a pass in the left circle from Bergeron and lifted in a shot. The Islanders answered again, taking advantage of a turnover in the Boston zone by Gregory Campbell. During a delayed penalty, Okposo made a pass into the middle to Grabner for his ninth goal and second in three games, scored at 8:20. "That power play really gave them momentum, and we finished on our heels in the first," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "From that point on until the end of the second period, I thought we got really sloppy and shot ourselves in the foot." The Bruins went ahead 3-2 at 12:21 during another delayed penalty. Shawn Thorntons pass hit New Yorks Matt Martin and caromed to Smith, who tapped in his 17th goal. Another Bruins breakdown cost Boston the lead again. Defenceman Dougie Hamilton leaped at the blue line to knock down a puck, but missed. The speedy Grabner took off and was joined by Okposo, who came out of the penalty box. They came in on a 2-on-0 break and passed the puck back and forth before Okposo slammed in his 23rd goal with 4:52 left. It appeared the teams would be tied to start the third, but Soderberg steamed in on the right wing, got around defenceman Thomas Hickey and beat Poulin with 32.7 seconds remaining. The Bruins posted their first two-goal lead when Bergeron slammed in a feed from Marchand at 2:17 of the third. "We cant panic," said Islanders captain John Tavares, who had a six-game point streak snapped. "Have to trust each other in this room." NOTES: Okposo has seven goals and eight assists since his daughter was born earlier this month. ... The Islanders activated D Lubomir Visnovsky off the injured list. ... Hot prospects flamed out. Free agents fizzled. And every year, the Royals languished near the AL Central cellar. But things changed in December 2012. General manager Dayton Moore thought enough pieces had been assembled and all that was missing was the right starting pitcher — someone who could be the staff ace and change a clubhouse culture accustomed to losing.Moore called up the Rays and made the deal.Thats when I knew, Gordon said, that we were going for it.Two years later, a trade that was panned by many has helped the Royals reach the World Series for the first time since 1985. Shields, who will start Game 1 at home Tuesday night against San Francisco, has been everything Moore had hoped he would be.Those opportunities to acquire a top rotation starter and an impact pitcher like Wade Davis, theyre not presented year-in and year-out, Moore said. We were fortunate the timing of it was such that it was staring us in the face and put us in a position to compete in 2014.It was a gamble. The Royals sent baseballs top minor league talent, Wil Myers, and a bevy of other promising prospects to the Rays.Shields went 13-9 with a 3.15 ERA last year, helping the Royals to their best record in more than 20 years. And over the course of the season, Davis established himself as one of the most dominant late-inning relievers in the game. This year, Shields finished the regular season 14-8 with a 3.21 ERA, helping the Royals return to the post-season for the first time since their only World Series title. He started their wild-card win over Oakland. He allowed two runs over six innings in earning the victory in a Division Series game against the Angels. And he was good enough to help the Royals beat Baltimore in the ALCS, running their poost-season winning streak to 11 games. http://www.cheapshoesfree.com/. Hes earned the nickname Big Game James for a reason, Royals manager Ned Yost said.On a team with few veterans, Shields has proved invaluable in October. And when he takes the mound against the Giants, hell be drawing on the experience he gained in 2008, when he tossed 5 2-3 innings for the Rays against the Phillies in the only other World Series start of his nine-year big league career.Hes been tremendous, said Greg Holland, the Royals All-Star closer. He takes that starting five as kind of collectively, Hey, we want to be the backbone of this team. We want to throw 200 innings apiece. We want to push each other, learn from each other.I think he also leads by example, taking the ball every five days and giving his heart and soul, Holland said. I think once you start rattling off good start after good start, it kind of builds on itself. You want to do just as good as the guy in front of you did.Shields also keeps the clubhouse jovial between games and ratchets up the intensity when its time to compete. Once hes on the mound, he stalks around like a lion, often roaring as he heads back to the dugout after a big strikeout. His teammates took notice, adopting many of his mannerisms.I just try to be myself and hopefully its contagious, Shields said. Thats about it. I mean, I have fun with this game. I feel like Im a grinder. I feel like I have a winning attitude, so hopefully it feeds off these guys, and we have fun with it. Were all little kids at heart.Shields can become a free agent after the World Series, and few expect him to re-sign with the small-market Royals. Clubs with far bigger budgets figure to drive up the bidding to the point that Moore is forced to bow out of the negotiations. All of that is for later, though. Shields is too busy with the present, trying to win a World Series ring, to worry about any of it.Obviously we understand the magnitude of whats going on in Kansas City, he said. Were going to go out there and play our game and trust our ability to win ballgames. Anderson said, referring to how sick Michael Jordan was when he scored 38 points in Game 5 of the 1997 NBA Finals. He went out there and battled, Anderson added. He battled the Chargers D, battled the crowd, battled the adversity and battled himself. Thats a lot of battles going on in one mans lifetime right now. I think its a tribute to the kind of toughness Peyton has and the kind of competitor he is that he got up and did a tremendous job in those conditions.Manning was back in time for Denvers first possession of the third quarter. He capped the second possession with a 28-yard touchdown pass to Thomas to give the Broncos a 16-3 lead.PASSING PEYTON: Manning completed 14 of 20 passes for 233 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. He extended his own NFL record to 14 seasons with 4,000 yards passing.A week earlier, Mannings touchdown streak came to a halt at 51 games, three shy of Drew Brees NFL record.SLUMPING SAN DIEGO: The Chargers (8-6) entered the game as the AFCs No. 6 seed and saw their wild-card chances diminished. They lost a week earlier to New England. Its just a two-game streak against the two top teams in the conference, said Philip Rivers, who threw one touchdown pass and was intercepted twice. Were not in their company yet. Its not like weve lost to the bottom of the barrel.GATES: San Diego pulled within six points when Antonio Gates caught a 5-yard pass from Rivers with 10:13 left.
