"Esas son millones de oportunidades para causar daos", afirma.
OrgenesPara comprobar que las nanopartculas provenan de los gases de escape de la combustin, los investigadores analizaron la forma de la magnetita.
Este mineral tambin puede estar presente en el cerebro de forma natural, pero en pequesimas cantidades, y tiene una forma distintivamente dentada.
Las nanopartculas que se encontraron en el estudio, sin embargo, no slo eran ms numerosas, sino tambin lisas y redondas.
Segn los investigadores, son caractersticas que slo pueden crearse en las altas temperaturas del motor de un vehculo o los sistemas de freno.
"Son formas esfricas y tienen pequeas cristalitas alrededor de su superficie, aparecen junto con otros metales, como el platino, que surgen de los convertidores catalticos", explica la profesora Maher.
"Es la primera vez que vemos estas partculas de contaminacin dentro del cerebro humano. Es un hallazgo que plantea toda una nueva rea de investigacin para entender si estas partculas de magnetita estn causando o acelerando enfermedades neurodegenerativas", agrega.
El estudio no mostr resultados concluyentes al respecto.

It didn't take long for trouble to brew around the couple, neighbors said. Once Daveggio, 37, moved into Michaud's home last year, late night parties and drunken brawls began, said , who lived nearby on in Sacramento.
