NOBODY THOUGHT IT would be his last, least of all him. Air Max 2018 Discount . On July 18, Alex Rodriguez hit a second-inning solo shot off Baltimore Orioles pitcher Kevin Gausman deep into the left-field seats at Yankee Stadium. It was only A-Rods ninth homer of the year, but it was also the 696th of his career, and it gave the New York Yankees a 1-0 lead en route to a 2-1 victory. After the game, he told reporters, Im getting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.Turns out it was a train. Last week, the Yankees pressured him into retiring after Fridays game, when he still could hit another. Or he could decide to come back at a later date. But for now, he remains tantalizingly close to joining Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth as the only members of the 700 Club. For some of the games greatest hitters, farewells dont always end well. Parting is such sweet sorrow and all that, but theres little poetry in balls, or players, reaching the warning track.Thats something to keep in mind as 40-year-old David Ortiz tries to finish what he says will be his last season with a bang?(528 HRs and counting); as Prince Fielder is forced to call it quits with 319 homers (same as his father, Cecil); as Mark Teixeira (404 ... do I hear 405?) takes a final bow. And as A-Rod, who just turned 41, hangs em up. In announcing his retirement, A-Rod said, As far as 700 or those types of milestones, look, I would have had an unbelievable fun time trying to go after them. ... [But] those are not the cards I was dealt. If Friday is indeed his last game, and No. 696 was his last homer, its worth replaying his trot around the bases.?As he circled the bases against the Orioles, Rodriguez blew a chewing gum bubble. As it always does, the bubble burst.SOME DAY, A-ROD will go to Cooperstown. Six days after his home run, the honors belonged to Ken Griffey Jr. and Mike Piazza. This year, as usual, the hamlet was crawling on induction weekend with gods, some in a higher pantheon than others, but all adored by their worshippers. Its as good a time and place as any to dust off the memories.George Brett, No. 317. The man in a golf shirt, shorts and Kansas City Royals ankle socks is about to tee off on the sixth hole of the Leatherstocking Golf Course in Cooperstown, New York. Its the annual golf tournament that precedes the ceremonies, and while Brett waits his turn, he is asked to go back to Sept. 26, 1993 -- the day he hit his 317th, and last, home run.Refresh my memory, he says. No, wait, its coming back to me. ... It was a 10th-inning, two-out game winner against the Angels in Kansas City. High fastball into the balcony in right.Brett then hits his tee shot straight down the middle, and, as he drives off down the fairway, he shouts, Hey, that was my second homer of the game. After his round, he asks, Who did I hit it off of? Paul Swingle.Greg Swindell? It couldnt have been him. This guy was a right-hander. Yes, he was, but his name was Paul Swingle. S-w-i-n-g-l-e.Oh. I dont remember him. And who gave up my first homer in that game? John Farrell. The Red Sox manager? Really? Thats kind of neat.Neater still was that the home runs came on the day after Brett had tearfully announced his retirement. When that Sunday game ended with his walk-off, his line in the box score read: Brett 5-3-3-5.As he says, I got to be George Brett for one more day.Mike Schmidt, No. 548. Fate is funny. With the fifth pick of the second round of the 1971 draft, the Royals selected a shortstop named George Brett. Right after that, with the sixth pick, the Philadelphia Phillies also went for a shortstop: Mike Schmidt. They would become the greatest third basemen of their generation, making 25 All-Star Games between them. They went head-to-head in the 1980 World Series, won by the Phillies, and Schmidt would win three MVPs, two more than Brett. But when it came to their final home runs, Brett got the better deal.Schmidts was a two-run homer off Jim Deshaies in the first inning of a May 2, 1989 game at the Vet -- it gave the Phillies a 2-1 lead in a game they would lose 12-4. It was a high fastball that I hit down the left-field line, Schmidt says. It barely stayed inside the foul pole. I had no idea at the time that it would be my last.Nearly a month later, Schmidt broke down at his retirement news conference.Looking back, the only reason to have delayed my retirement would have been the career numbers: I was two short of 550 home runs and five short of 1,600 RBIs -- one good game. But I was feeling my age, the team was in transition, and I had what I thought were Hall of Fame credentials and enough money. Im actually very comfortable with how my career ended and how my retirement played out. I even have the home run ball in a case at home.I just wish Id have written a better goodbye speech.Frank Thomas, No. 286. There were two Frank Thomases in Cooperstown. There was one who was in the Hall of Fame, and then there was the large hulking man signing photos and balls at a card table on Main Street. The other Frank Thomas is an 87-year-old Pittsburgh native who played for seven National League teams over 16 seasons. When fans tell him how good it is to see him alive, he tells them, Well, its a lot better to be seen than to be viewed.Thomas was a pretty good slugger in his day, not to mention the Home Run King of New York in 1962 (he hit 34 for the original Mets, while Roger Maris hit 33 and Mickey Mantle 30 for the Yankees). Asked about his final homer, Frank has to think. I dont remember much about it. Wait, I was with the Astros, and it was against the Mets. And it got me traded! It was Aug. 31, 1965, at Shea Stadium, and, like Brett, Thomas hit his last two home runs in the same game. In fact, the right-handed-hitting first baseman provided all of the Astros offense in a 4-3 victory, with a three-run bomb off Larry Miller in the first inning with Joe Morgan and Jimmy Wynn aboard and a solo shot in the third off Darrell Sutherland. The next day, they sent me to my old pals on the [Atlanta] Braves for a player to be named later, Thomas says. I guess they figured I had something left. No more homers, but I got to play the last month of the season with Hank [Aaron] and Eddie [Mathews] again. Joe Torre and Phil Niekro, too. Thats four Hall of Famers right there. That was my reward, I guess.Frank Thomas, No. 521. The Big Hurt was also in town, looking as imposing as ever beside his plaque, which has him in his White Sox hat. But it didnt end well for him in Chicago: He was hurt big when the club released him after winning the 2005 World Series. He signed with the Oakland As and hit another 39 in 06, then 26 more as the Toronto Blue Jays DH in 07. Then the fly balls started coming up short. On Aug. 9, 2008, back on the As and playing at Comerica Park, Thomas hit one last home run, a two-out, first-inning shot to left-center off Armando Galarraga. He played 18 more games that season, then went into denial, refusing to announce his retirement. Finally, on Feb. 12, 2010, Thomas officially called it quits by signing a one-day contract with the White Sox, who announced that they would be retiring his No. 35. At the news conference, he said, For some reason, it seems like there is never a happy ending to superstars careers. They end up playing for other teams -- but they always end up coming back.Had he hit one more home run, Thomas would be alone at No. 20 on the all-time list. But hes in very good company with 521, tied with Willie McCovey and ...Ted Williams, No. 521. Standing sentinel on the first floor of Cooperstowns museum is The Splendid Splinter. His statue perfectly captures his lefty-swinging follow-through -- the same follow-through he used to hit his 521st homer off Jack Fisher in the eighth inning of a 5-4 comeback win over the Orioles. It was not only the last at-bat of his career but also the inspiration for one of the finest sports stories ever written. Here is how John Updike described the third pitch of the at-bat in Hub Fans Bid Kid Adieu, which appeared in the Oct. 22, 1960, issue of The New Yorker:Like a feather caught in a vortex, Williams ran around the square of bases at the center of our beseeching screaming. He ran as he always ran out home runs -- hurriedly, unsmiling, head down, as if our praise were a storm of rain to get out of. He didnt tip his cap. ... The papers said that the other players, and even the umpires on the field, begged him to come out and acknowledge us in some way, but he never had and did not now. Gods do not answer letters.Al Kaline, No. 399. As Williams was to Boston, Kaline was to Detroit. Mr. Tigers final round-tripper was a ninth-inning, two-run homer off Reggie Cleveland in Fenway on Sept. 18, 1974, but it didnt mean much to the Tigers, who lost 8-5, or to Kaline at the time.I hardly recall it, says Kaline, who was at a cocktail reception in the Hall of Fame gallery, not far from the Williams figure. I do remember my home run off Steve Carlton in the 1968 World Series and my 11th-inning homer off Rollie Fingers in the 72 ALCS. But I never really tried to hit home runs. I was more concerned with getting to 3,000 hits. That was the mark I was really after. ... It wasnt until Yaz came along that I really realized the significance of 400 home runs.Kaline did get his 3,000th hit, in his hometown Baltimore, and five years later, Carl Yastrzemski recorded both. Indeed, its right there on his plaque: FIRST AMERICAN LEAGUER TO HAVE 400 HOME RUNS AND 3,000 HITS.Roberto Clemente, No. 240. He hit it on Sept. 13, 1972, and it was his 10th homer of the season. Seventeen days later, he got the 3,000th hit of his career. Who could have known they would be the last of each -- Clemente died in a plane crash on New Years Eve, en route to delivering aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua. What a shock, says Ferguson Jenkins, the Hall of Famer who gave up the Hall of Famers final home run. I loved facing Roberto, and believe me, we faced each other a lot over the years. It was the sixth time Clemente had homered off Jenkins. The only other pitcher to give up as many as six to Clemente was Sandy Koufax. I remember it like it was yesterday, Jenkins says. Wrigley Field, seventh inning, right? Man on and two outs, score tied 3-3. He was a bad-ball hitter, so I tried to throw it off the plate, get him to chase. I forget the count, but I threw it inside, and he hit it over the ivy in left. You win some, you lose some, and that one I lost.Because this was the 25th anniversary of Fergies induction, he invited his family up to Cooperstown. He showed them the Clemente statue in the museum.Steve Garvey, No. 272. When he retired in 1988, there was no way Garvey wasnt going into the Hall of Fame -- not with his 10 All-Star appearances, his .338 batting average in 11 postseason series, the National League record for most consecutive games played (1,207).But his numbers were diminished by the sluggers of the steroid era, and his once angelic reputation was tarnished by a soap operatic personal life. Now Garvey is stuck in purgatory, and, on this HOF weekend, he is sitting at the same table in the same souvenir shop with the devil himself, Pete Rose.Garveys last home run came on April 12, 1987, a three-run, first-inning homer off the Cincinnati Reds Guy Hoffman at Riverfront Stadium that gave the San Diego Padres a 3-0 lead en route to a 5-2 victory. One Hall of Famer, Tony Gwynn, scored ahead of Garvey, and another, Barry Larkin, watched it sail out of the park.It went into the seats in left-center, Garvey says. I didnt think it would be my last, but then, you never do.?Bicep tendinitis got to me, and I [missed the rest of the 1987 season]. I didnt know what became of the ball. But then a funny thing happened. Six or seven years ago, a box arrives in the mail. Its from one of the groundskeepers at Riverfront. Back in those days, you could buy game balls and stuff in the team store, and he bought the home run ball. I guess he saw the date and realized the significance. Eventually, he tracked me down and sent it to me because he thought I might like to have it.Its kind of special. Not so much because of its significance but more because a fan went out of his way to send me a gift he thought I might want.George Foster, No. 348. Right across the street from Garvey, in another souvenir store, is another man who thought he might be going to Cooperstown for a different reason. I really thought I would get 500, which would have gotten me into the Hall of Fame, Foster says. Just five more 30-homer seasons. But injuries got the best of me.When Foster hit 52 home runs for the 1977 Reds, only seven other players had hit more in a season. But after the Mets acquired him in 82, he went from great to good to gone: He and manager Davey Johnson locked horns, and he was released in August of 86. The White Sox picked him up, and it was for them that he hit No. 348, a solo shot in the fourth inning off Bill Wegman on Aug. 15. Two months later, his ex-teammates on the Mets won the World Series.Though his MLB career was soon over, Foster still had a little left in him: He reappeared in 1989 in the Senior Professional Baseball Association, where he hit 11 homers in 70 games for the St. Lucie Legends.Eddie Murray, No. 504. A final home run ball is worth saving. But sometimes circumstances prevent that. Murray was playing for the Angels on May 30, 1997, when he hit a solo shot in the second inning of a game the Minnesota Twins would win 4-3. It was off Bob Tewksbury to center field, he says. Thats about all I remember. I dont even know what happened to the ball. The funny thing is that, the year before, when I hit 22 for the Cleveland Indians and Baltimore Orioles, the balls kept bouncing back on the field, and people were collecting them for me. I think I have 19 of those. But that last one happened so early in the season that I had no idea it would be my last.Actually, that was not the last professional home run that Murray hit. Yeah, I hit two more that season for Albuquerque after the Dodgers picked me up. That was weird, me playing with all those kids. I have no idea who gave up my last one.Just for the record, it was a Phoenix pitcher named Mike Villano.Donora, Pennsylvania, No. 1,259. Seven hours west-southwest of Cooperstown is another baseball mecca, a town of 5,000 that, thanks to native sons Stan Musial, Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr., can claim more home runs per capita than any other place on earth. Together they hit 1,257 -- the other two came from Steve Filipowicz, a Donoran who had them for the 1945 New York Giants. The last one was hit by one of the men celebrated in this Cooperstown weekend, Ken Griffey Jr. It came on Oct. 3, 2009, in the bottom of the fourth inning of a game between the Rangers and Mariners at Safeco Field. Junior took Tommy Hunters 3-1 pitch deep to right field to give the Ms a 1-0 lead in a game they would win 2-1. At the time, it was his 19th homer of the season, the 630th of his career.Nineteen years and 595 home runs earlier, there was another date to remember: Sept. 14, 1990. Thats when the Griffeys homered back-to-back off the Angels Kirk McCaskill to become the first father-son combo to go yard in the same game. After touching home plate, Senior told Junior, Thats how you do it, son.Willard Brown, No. 1. Hes in the Hall of Fame for his hitting, baserunning and outfield play for the Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro Leagues. But he did play for the St. Louis Browns in 1947, and became the first African-American to hit a home run in the American League: an inside-the-park homer off future Hall of Famer Hal Newhouser of the Tigers on Aug. 13. It was also his last in the majors, and the last for the bat he used.It seems he had borrowed it from teammate Jeff Heath, who was so enraged at his presumption that he smashed the lumber to pieces in the dugout.Hank Aaron, No. 755, and Billy Williams, No. 426. Whats it like to give up a Hall of Famers last home run? Dick Drago knows. Pitching for the Angels, he gave up two in a two-week span.Aarons I knew about, Drago says. But I had no idea I also gave up Billys last one.The Aaron homer came first, 40 years ago on July 20, 1976, in County Stadium, a solo homer deep to left in the seventh inning of the Milwaukee Brewers 6-2 victory. It was a hanging slider. I tried to get cute. Not the best inning of my career -- I gave up a homer to George Scott when Hank was in the on-deck circle. Other than that, I dont remember much, just him circling the bases and me fuming on the mound. When was the Williams home run?Aug. 8, an eighth-inning solo shot in a 9-3 loss to the Athletics in Oakland.I did give up a few. I guess its kind of a distinction that I gave up Hank Aarons last. You know, we signed balls together a few years ago. But Ive never seen the actual ball.Therein lies a tale. A part-time groundskeeper named Richard Arndt caught the ball in the bleachers. Not knowing its future significance, he just wanted to give the ball to Aaron and maybe have his picture taken. But he was told that Aaron was busy and that he should hand the ball over. When he refused, he was fired.Later that season, Arndt tried to get Aaron to sign the ball, but the legend balked, saying the ball belonged to him. Over the years, Arndt entertained various offers for the ball, even some from Aaron and the Brewers. He finally sold it to a Connecticut portfolio manager for $655,000, a large chunk of which he gave to Aarons Chasing the Dream Foundation. (What, nothing for the guy who hung the slider? Drago says.)That ball is now on loan to the museum, in a third-floor exhibit called Hank Aaron: Chasing The Dream. As for the Williams ball, Billy had it once. I threw it in my baseball bag, he says. The next year, I was in Midland, Texas, looking at some hitters for the Cubs, and a kid asked me if I had any baseballs. That was the only one I had to give him.Barry Bonds, No. 762. Bonds hit two balls worth a lot of money. The first was the one he hit to pass Aaron, No. 756, an Aug. 7, 2007, homer off Mike Bacsik of the Nationals. It was caught at AT&T Park by college student Matt Murphy and sold to fashion designer Mark Ecko for $752,467.20 so that he could make a statement by engraving an asterisk on it. Thats now housed on the third floor of the HOF museum, in an exhibit called One For The Books: Baseball Records and the Stories Behind Them. The second was the last home run ball of Bonds career, a two-run homer off rookie Ubaldo Jimenez in the first inning of the Giants 5-3 win in Colorado on Sept. 5, 2007. (Rockies outfielder Matt Holliday actually asked that the homer be negated because of fan interference. You decide.)The fan who emerged from the scrum with the ball was Jameson Sutton, who put the ball in a safe-deposit box in the hopes that it would be Bonds last waltz around the bases. When Bonds retired without another home run, collectors predicted that Sutton would get as much $1 million for the ball.He sold it that offseason to an unnamed collector through SCP Auctions for $376,612. Sutton used the money to pay off the medical expenses of his stepfather, who had just died after a battle with lung cancer. That ball is not in Cooperstown. It remains to be seen whether Bonds himself will be there.Babe Ruth, No. 714. It was May 25, 1935, and the 40-year-old Bambino waddled up to the plate for the truly dreadful Boston Braves on a chilly Saturday afternoon before 10,000 curious Pittsburgh fans in Forbes Field. No longer wanted by the Yankees -- firewood had been stored in his spring training locker and No. 3 had been given to George Selkirk -- he signed with the Braves, who needed a turnstile draw.He came into the game batting .183. But in the first inning, he hit a two-run homer into the right-field stands off Red Lucas. That was 712. He gave the Braves a 4-0 lead with another two-run shot, this one off Guy Bush, in the third -- 713. The Pirates tied the score, but Ruth put the Braves back ahead 5-4 with an RBI single in the fifth. In the top of the seventh, with the home team back ahead 7-5 but the crowd behind him, Ruth took a mighty swing at Bushs 3-1 pitch ... and launched it clear over the right-field roof. No batter had ever done that in the 26-year history of the park: 714.In an article for the Society of American Baseball Research, Jack Zerby described the scene thusly: After rounding the bases in a 1935 version of his classic trot, Babe saluted the fans with a tipped cap, and then excused himself from the game. Sole access to the visiting clubhouse was through the Pittsburgh dugout. En route, he plopped himself down at the end of the bench and told rookie Pirate pitcher Mace Brown, Boy, that last one felt good. After going 4-for-4 with three homers and six RBIs that day, Ruth played five more games, but he never got another hit.The ball that Ruth hit for No. 714 is now part of the Hall of Fames touring exhibit, We Are Baseball, which is at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City until Aug. 21. Then its on to St. Louis. Thats the thing about last home runs. Long after the batter touches home, the ball is still traveling. Cheap Air Max 2018 China . Vettel was 0.168 seconds faster than Red Bull teammate Mark Webber around the Suzuka circuit. Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg was two tenths of a second off Vettel. "The car balance is decent, but I think we can still improve," Vettel said. ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- How good is Tyrod Taylor? Well, hes better than you think he is. Yes, seriously. He ranked seventh in Total QBR last year and is No. 8 so far this season. That complicated metric makes the Buffalo Bills quarterback look like one of the better quarterback bargains around. But while he might be better than you think, Taylor still isnt as good as he thinks he could be.To be one of the best -- if not the best -- to play this game, Taylor said last month in response to the question of what drives him. I think, with my skill set, if I maximize the potential that I have, I can definitely be remembered as one of the best this league has had.Is he crazy? Taylor isnt in anyones top 10 of current QBs. He has started 22 NFL games and thrown for 300 yards in none of them. Because he was behind Joe Flacco in Baltimore, he didnt get to start until he was 26 years old, and only when two guys in front of him on the 2015 Bills depth chart flopped.Yet Taylor, whose Bills take on the Seahawks in a Monday Night Football matchup in Seattle, is the guy Buffalo considers to be its franchise quarterback. Sort of.We feel like, if we have a good defense and a running game to support him, we can do kind of what Seattle did with Russell Wilson, Bills offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn said last week. He knows that the formula to win here may not be throwing for 400 yards per game. But when hes had people around him, he has made plays. The Wilson comparison has come up throughout the past week thanks to the Monday night meeting. For some, it fits because Taylors running ability is such a big part of his game -- as it was with Wilson prior to this season -- and because Wilson has always had a strong defense and run game to support him.The comparison falls apart, though, when you look at records. Wilson has won at the very highest level on a consistent basis for a number of years. He has elevated a substandard receiver corps. He has delivered in the fourth quarter -- an area in which Taylor has so far fallen woefully short. Comparing Buffalos defense in Taylors tenure to the defense Wilson has had in Seattle is ridiculous. But, at this point, Taylors ability to win with a high-quality defense is still a matter of speculation, whereas with Wilson there is proof.Theres a learning curve, and a year and a half into being a starter, hes still going through some things, Lynn said. But if youre able to move around, that gives you some time to figure some things out. Theres a lot of upside to him.The way Taylor is viewed inside the Bills building might not match up with the mezza-mezza perception the outside world has of him, but in a lot of ways its the only perspective that matters. Buffalo gave Taylor a new contract in the offseason that raised his 2016 salary over $9 million and established a series of option years beginning in 2017. If Taylor flops,, the Bills can walk away. Air Max 2018 Clearance. They could pick over a free-agent crop that includes the likes of Kirk Cousins, Jay Cutler and Ryan Fitzpatrick (whos already been through there), or they could turn to a trade market that might feature Tony Romo.If he doesnt, and they pick up his option, his 2017 salary cap number would be just over $15.9 million -- the 20th highest among quarterbacks currently signed for next season. His 2018 cap number would be only $16.78 million. What that actually means, believe it or not, is that its likely a no-brainer for the Bills to pick up Taylors option.[Taylor] is an interesting guy, said one NFL talent evaluator whose team will not be in the offseason quarterback market. He throws a good deep ball, and the legs are obviously a big plus. I think it helped him being in Baltimore those years. You can see he has that veteran cool about him.Taylor agrees with the notion that spending his early years as a backup in a winning environment in Baltimore was a benefit to him. He says he learned a lot being around veterans like Ray Lewis, Haloti Ngata and Ed Reed (whos now a member of the Buffalo coaching staff) that prepared him to take advantage of his chance to start when it arrived.Watching those guys come to work every day with their mindset, even after years of being in the league, seeing what drove those guys made me better as a player, Taylor said. It encouraged me in the days when I thought, Oh, man, maybe the opportunity wont come. The Bills are pleased they gave Taylor his opportunity. The way they look at it, he works for them -- or would, if they could get their running back corps and wide receiver group healthy.Taylor has barely had Sammy Watkins, who missed three games last year then another six this year, and has played hurt much of the time hes been on the field. Taylor has also played the past couple of weeks without feature back LeSean McCoy. Robert Woods has been in and out. Keep in mind that Total QBR stat in which Taylor looks so good favors quarterbacks whose supporting casts are substandard. And while Taylors offensive line has actually performed well this year, the skill position group around him has been an injury-riddled mess.Tyrods going to be fine, Bills coach Rex Ryan said after a loss Oct. 30 to New England, in which Taylor was a somewhat miserable 19-for-38 for 183 yards but chipped in 48 yards and a touchdown as a runner. It seems like every week Im defending him, and I dont understand why.Its because Taylor doesnt give off the impression of a very good NFL quarterback, but there are numbers that say otherwise. In todays NFL, where there arent 32 perfect quarterback solutions, hes a better long-term solution for the Bills than you might think he is. Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China Cheap NFL Jerseys Authentic Wholesale Jerseys China Cheap NFL Jerseys China NFL Cheap JerseysCheap Jerseys ' ' '

(STATS) -- Even veteran teams and coaches can learn from their mistakes. Adidas Magnus Paajarvi Jersey .Richmond wasnt exactly in a New York state of mind -- or the right state of mind -- during the first road trip of its CAA Football schedule. A late arrival and early start time had the then-No. 2 Spiders out of whack throughout their Sept. 17 visit to Stony Brook, and the disorder was evident in a lethargic and mistake-filled performance that ended in a stunning 42-14 defeat.Having since regained their bearings with a pair of hard-earned wins over quality opponents, the sixth-ranked Spiders have a chance to leave the Empire State with a far more positive memory in Saturdays conference clash with No. 16 Albany (3:30 p.m. ET). Coach Danny Rocco insists his team will be better prepared for this Northeast sojourn, which carries considerably more weight than one might have initially expected following the events of the seasons opening five weeks. At Stony Brook, other than the fact that we got our butts kicked, we were on a tight window when we got there, he said. It was a noon kick, we didnt get there as early as we were supposed to get there. I will make sure I get my team into the locker room well in advance of the 2 1/2 hours prior to the kick.If that humbling outcome didnt get the 2015 FCS national semifinalists attention, the Great Danes impressive start surely has. Behind a resurgent rushing attack and a remarkably resourceful defense, upstart Albany (4-0, 1-0 CAA) stands as the leagues lone unbeaten team and owns the highest national ranking in program history.Coach Greg Gattuso attributes his young squads turnaround to its own lessons learned from last years visit to Richmond (4-1, 1-1). Down 38-10 early in the third quarter, the Great Danes scored 21 unanswered to put a considerable scare in the eventual CAA co-champions on Halloween.I thought we struggled with being resilient last year and got ourselves down when things when bad, he said. I saw a change last year, actually against Richmond when they got up big on us in the second half early. Instead of quit playing we started to fight back, and we started making progress from that point. That fortitude has shown up this season in the form of fourth-quarter comebacks against FBS member Buffalo and Saint Francis, in which the Great Danes -- picked 11th of 12 teams in the conferences preseeason poll -- outscored the Red Flash 20-0 after halftime in the preceding game to last weeks bye. Cheap Blues Jerseys China. Albany has outscored its opponents 53-14 in the fourth quarter thus far.Richmond displayed some grit of its own in last weekends matchup with Towson. Down by seven early in the third quarter, the Spiders rallied for 10 straight points to pull out a 31-28 victory and avoid a potentially disastrous 0-2 start in CAA play.I think what is critical with this team is that when we need each other, were there to pick each other up, quarterback Kyle Lauletta said. When the offense has struggled to get in rhythm, the defense has picked us up. When the defense has needed us, weve been able to put a few drives together. The win was Richmonds school-record 10th straight at Robins Stadium, but it has lost its last three conference road games dating back to last November. Lauletta, the CAA preseason player of the year and league leader in passing yards (1,504) and touchdown passes (13), has thrown eight interceptions in those defeats. The junior will have to choose his spots carefully against Albanys highly opportunistic defense. The Great Danes lead the FCS with a plus-13 turnover margin and 2.25 interceptions per game.Albany hopes to use another strength to its advantage as it vies for its first league win over a Top 25 opponent. The Great Danes, 0-6 against ranked CAA members since joining in 2014, possess the conferences leading rusher in Elijah Ibitokun-Hanks, who piled up a career-high 202 yards in last seasons meeting with the Spiders.Richmond has struggled to defend the run in recent weeks, having surrendered 640 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground over its last three games.Gattuso also seeks a boost from an anticipated large Homecoming crowd in a game billed as Albanys biggest since entering the CAA.The reason this is a big game is because weve played well, he said. (The Spiders) are very good, theyve jumped out big on us the last two years and I think they kind of pulled off the gas a little bit. But hopefully this is a game where were going to show up and play a full four quarters and were going to give it our best shot. Its obviously a huge challenge, but were excited about it. Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China Cheap NFL Jerseys Authentic Wholesale Jerseys China Cheap NFL Jerseys China NFL Cheap Jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

What a sack of shit. I so sick of seeing this bullshit from hacks. "Yes, well, it really not that difficult you see, anyone could have done it, and, yes, she had lots of time, and money ." Could anyone have done it? My opinion is no, anyone could not have done it, but it ultimately irrelevant. She did do it, and that is so often what separates the remarkable people from the ordinary.

To the question posed in the title of the article: yes, she is overrated, or at least, John Maloof perception of her is overrated when viewed relative to her contemporaries and those who immediately followed (thinking specifically of Andre Kertesz, Diane Arbus, Garry Winogrand, Werner Bischof, Rene Burri, and the like). She was still wickedly talented though, and combined with the story of her discovery it makes sense that she garnered so much attention. And I mean, look, if the thing people most commonly say about me after I die is, "He wasn quite as good as Garry Winogrand," that a successful life as far as I concerned.

edit Also, and this is probably a bit pretentious, but I don think it unfair to say that someone knowledge of photographic history is most likely inversely proportional copy cartier pendant to how many times they name drop Henri Cartier Bresson. When I visited the museum in Amsterdam, I kept thinking that if I spent years meticulously recreating Starry Night one stroke at a time, I think I could produce a fairly convincing copy. Compare this to a Van Eyck painting with fine chiaroscuro and a lack of visible strokes, and it very much makes you feel like you can paint just as well as Van Gogh, and yes, maybe you can, but you didn and neither did I.

I not going on the offensive here, I just curious: when you say you look at a painting by Van Gogh and think that you could do the same thing, are you factoring in the painter vision (which to me includes everything from the overall image they saw in their head to the choices they made in color, brush, stroke, etc.)? Even if you are personally a painter, and could technically create a painting with the same style as another artist (famous or not), that doesn mean you could necessarily create a work with the same impact (ignoring Van Gogh impact and whether or not you think it is deserved).

As an analogy, I am a musician among other things, and I can play all the instruments and parts required to reproduce many classic songs, but I wouldn say "I don appreciate this music because I could created it". I know I don have the same type of creative vision that those artists needed to write and arrange those particular songs.

Maternal and fetal risk factors for stillbirth

AbstractObjective To assess the main risk factors associated with stillbirth in a multiethnic English maternity population. Results Multivariable analysis identified a significant risk of stillbirth for parity (para 0 and para 3), ethnicity (African, African Caribbean, Indian, and Pakistani), maternal obesity (body mass index 30), smoking, pre existing diabetes, and history of mental health problems, antepartum haemorrhage, and fetal growth restriction (birth weight below 10th customised birthweight centile). As potentially modifiable risk factors, maternal obesity, smoking in pregnancy, and fetal growth restriction together accounted for 56.1% of the stillbirths. Presence of fetal growth restriction constituted the highest risk, and this applied to pregnancies where mothers did not smoke (adjusted relative risk 7.8, 95% confidence interval 6.6 to 10.9), did smoke (5.7, 3.6 to 10.9), and were exposed to passive smoke only (10.0, 6.6 to 15.8). Fetal growth restriction also had the largest population attributable risk for stillbirth and was fivefold greater if it was not detected antenatally than when it was (32.0% v 6.2%). In total, 195 of the 389 stillbirths in this cohort had fetal growth restriction, but in 160 (82%) it had not been detected antenatally. Antenatal recognition of fetal growth restriction resulted in delivery 10 days earlier than when it was not detected: median 270 (interquartile range 261 279) days v 280 (interquartile range 273 287) days. Stillbirth rates in the United Kingdom are among the highest in high income countries2 and have shown little improvement since the early 1990s.3Despite free availability of postmortem investigations in the English National Health Service as many as 50 70% of stillbirths have until recently been categorised as unclassified or unexplained4 and are, by implication, often considered unavoidable.5 Further investigation found that many stillborn fetuses had failed to reach their growth potential,6 7 8 and inclusion of fetal growth restriction as a category in stillbirth classifications resulted in imitation van cleef gold necklace a substantial drop to around 15% in the proportion of cases considered unexplained.8 9 This encouraged a renewed focus on understanding the underlying, mostly placental disease related, causes of fetal growth restriction. Recent reports of laboratory investigations10 and postmortem studies11 have confirmed the large contribution of placental failure in the cause of stillbirth. The clinical relevance of such findings van cleef alhambra necklace imitation is that although there are limited means by which to treat fetal growth restriction in utero, recognition that the fetus is at risk after appropriate maternal fetal investigations can lead to well timed delivery and improved perinatal outcome.12 13 However, there are currently no established and routinely used means to predict stillbirth, and risk factors known at the beginning of pregnancy are considered weak predictors of outcome.14We investigated the role of demographic, social, and medical risk factors that can be ascertained at the beginning of pregnancy together with those that become apparent as pregnancy progresses, and their respective contributions to the incidence of stillbirths in an NHS region in England with a multiethnic population.15 To focus on potentially avoidable factors we excluded congenital anomalies, as their contribution to stillbirth is contingent on incidence as well as cultural choices on antenatal screening, prenatal diagnosis, and decisions in response to positive results. We therefore explored the risk factors in pregnancies with normally formed singletons and estimated the respective contribution of these factors to the overall burden of stillbirth in our population.MethodsMaternity dataThe database was derived from the regional, NHSnet based perinatal episode electronic record (PEER) hosted and managed by the West Midlands Perinatal Institute.16 This electronic record was first implemented in April 2009 in the 19 maternity units in the West Midlands. For this study we used the data collected over a two year period, representing births between June 2009 and May 2011.The data originated from prospective records created in the standardised hand held maternity notes during pregnancy by the midwives and doctors.17 Trained data clerks in the respective hospitals transfer information from the notes on to the perinatal episode electronic record at the end of pregnancy. Quality was assured by central project staff through training workshops and regular on site data quality audits. The dataset contained 87 regionally agreed and defined data items,18 with information about maternal characteristics, including age, parity, ethnic origin, and maternal height and weight (expressed as body mass index); social factors, including employment status of the mother and her partner, consanguinity with the partner, and index of multiple deprivation; history of mental health problems, pre existing diabetes or hypertensive disease, or previous stillbirth; smoking status, alcohol consumption, non prescription drugs, folic acid intake, and time of first visit in pregnancy (the information for all these previous variables was usually recorded at the early pregnancy booking visit); complications in pregnancy, including gestational diabetes, antepartum haemorrhage, pregnancy induced hypertension, and pre eclampsia (defined as pregnancy induced hypertension with proteinuria); and fetal or neonatal characteristics, including sex, gestational age and weight at birth, and estimated weight during pregnancy. Gestational age was determined on the basis of routinely offered dating scans, which were carried out in the first or second trimester (The presence of intrauterine growth restriction was established on the basis of a birth weight below the 10th weight for gestational age centile, using the gestation related optimal weight standard (GROW),19 with coefficients derived from the West Midlands population. This method defines the fetal growth potential by excluding pathological factors such as smoking and diabetes, and individual adjustment or "customisation" for the baby's sex and the mother's height, weight, ethnic origin, and parity.20 21 A weight that is small for gestational age after such adjustment by growth potential has been shown to represent pathological smallness22 and is referred to as fetal growth restriction. We applied the 10th centile as the cut off, as it is in standard clinical use and has been validated through receiver operator curves as being close to optimal for predicting pathology by customised centiles.23The case notes were also examined for any recording of fetal growth problems. Fetal growth surveillance is usually done by a protocol of measuring fundal height at each antenatal visit in the third trimester, with referral for ultrasound assessment of estimated fetal weight when the serially plotted fundal height measurements do not follow the predicted curve. In pregnancies where assessment of fundal height is difficult (for example, maternal obesity) or where the risk of fetal growth restriction is considered increased (for example, due to obstetric history) serial estimated fetal weight measurements are done according to local protocols of varying scan frequency. Antenatal recognition of fetal growth restriction in pregnancies with birth weights below the 10th customised centile was defined as at least one antenatal entry with this diagnosis, usually based on one or more estimated fetal weights below the 10th customised centile, or an abnormal umbilical artery Doppler, or both. This assessment of the maternity record is part of routine ascertainment, as the proportion of pregnancies with antenatally detected fetal growth restriction is a regionally agreed key performance indicator.Linkage to mortality dataData on fetal, neonatal, and infant deaths and congenital anomalies were notified to the Perinatal Institute by a network of coordinators, and had a consistently high level of ascertainment. The information is held on secure NHS servers and is pseudonymised before any further analysis. Data linkage was established with the electronic maternity database, using the NHS number as unique identifier.Stillbirth was defined as a child born after the 24th week of pregnancy who did not, at any time after delivery, breathe or show any other signs of life. Along the lines of previously applied methods,6 we adjusted the gestational age of each stillborn fetus by deducting two days from the length of pregnancy at delivery, to correct for the estimated 48 hour average delay between intrauterine death and delivery.24Confidentiality and consentMaternal consent was obtained by provision of information and opt out. Mothers are informed at their first antenatal visit about the intention of collection and analysis of secondary data, and this is also explained in text printed in their standardised, hand held pregnancy notes. That this information has been given and explained is recorded in the notes and signed by the midwife. A mother can opt out at any time from her data being used, in which case her NHS number is added to an "opt out register" and further analysis is blocked. The Perinatal Institute's confidentiality and consent protocol has been reviewed and passed as appropriate by UK Connecting for Health, the NHS, and the Information Commissioner.Statistical analysesAfter initial exploratory analysis, we assessed the independent and multiple variable effects of explanatory variables on stillbirths in Poisson regression models. Variables entered in the multivariable analysis are those of known clinical relevance and from previous publications2 14 and included maternal age, parity, ethnic origin, place of birth, body mass index, history of mental health problems, pre existing hypertension, pre existing diabetes, cardiac disease, previous stillbirths, smoking in pregnancy, alcohol consumption, antenatal folic acid intake, late booking (13 weeks), gestational diabetes, pregnancy induced hypertension, pre eclampsia, antepartum haemorrhage, and fetal growth restriction. In addition to the index of multiple deprivation, we included maternal and paternal employment status as social factors in the multivariable analysis. We entered variables using the manual stepwise (forward backward) method. To reduce the over reliance in the estimates and the selection mechanism that may arise due to rarity of stillbirths, we used the bootstrapping approach to calculate standard errors. In the multivariable analysis all variables reaching a 0.05 significance level were retained in the model. We also considered van cleef and arpels earrings fake all two factor interactions between the explanatory variables and used empirical probability plots to check the final model to assess whether the modelling assumptions were met. We carried out sensitivity analyses to assess the influence of factors excluded because of P>0.05, potential clustering by maternity unit, and the effect of repeat pregnancies from the same mother. To assess the proportion of stillbirths that could be potentially prevented if risk factors were removed, we calculated adjusted population attributable risk estimates using standard methods25: population attributable risk=expected number of cases in the populationexpected number of cases if nobody in the population has the risk factor of interest/expected number of cases in the population 100The analyses were done using statistical package STATA version 11.ResultsA total of 105476 cases were entered during the two year collection period. Of these, 13258 were excluded because of congenital anomaly or multiple pregnancy, which left 92218 normally formed singleton pregnancies leading to 91829 live births and 389 stillbirths. This represented a stillbirth rate of 4.2/1000 births and compares with nationally reported stillbirth rates of normally formed singletons of 3.9 4.1/1000 over the same period.26 The analysis included 841 (0.9%) repeat pregnancies during the two year period of the 92218 mothers in the cohort.Univariate analysisTable 1 lists the variables, grouped according to maternal and fetal characteristics, social factors, medical history, and complications during pregnancy. Analysis was for complete cases only. The stillbirth rate is presented for subgroups, together with relative risks and 95% confidence intervals in relation to the respective reference values.Table 1 Univariate analysis of risk factors associated with stillbirths compared with live birthsView this table:View popupView inlineFor maternal characteristics, stillbirth rates were increased in first as well as third and subsequent pregnancies compared with second pregnancies, and in mothers of African, African Caribbean, and South Asian ethnic origin compared with their European counterparts. First generation migrants had an overall higher risk of stillbirth. Maternal age indicated a slight increase in younger (Social factors with significant associations included deprivation and unemployment of the mother or her partner. Pregnancies in which the parents were blood relations were not at significantly increased risk. Obesity (body mass index 30), active as well as passive smoking, lack of antenatal folic acid, and booking after 13 weeks were all associated with an increased risk of stillbirth. A history of mental health problems, diabetes, and stillbirth increased the risk. In the current pregnancy, pre eclampsia and antepartum haemorrhage were strongly associated, whereas gestational diabetes was not.The strongest factor was fetal growth restriction, with a relative risk of 4.0 (95% confidence interval 2.8 to 5.7) when fetal growth restriction was detected antenatally, doubling to 8.0 (6.5 to 9.9) when it was not detected. The overall stillbirth rate (per 1000 births) was 4.2, which was a composite of a rate of 2.4 (185/76356) in pregnancies without fetal growth restriction and 16.7 (195/11697) in pregnancies with fetal growth restriction (table 1). Of pregnancies with fetal growth restriction, the stillbirth rate for cases detected antenatally was 9.7 (35/3601), whereas the rate increased to 19.8 (160/8096) when cases were not detected (fig 1).

    nation fracking rules

California's newregulations require oil companies to expand monitoring and reporting of water use and water quality, conduct broad analysis of potential engineering and seismic impacts of their operations, and disclose chemicals used during fracking. Above, drilling equipment in Kern County.

(Brian fake van cleef & arpels bracelet van der Brug / Los Angeles Times)

State officials on Wednesday formally adopted new rules governing hydraulic fracturing in California, setting in motion some of the toughest guidelines in the nation for the controversial oil extraction practice. The oil and gas agency also released its environmental impact report that concluded fracking could have "significant and unavoidable impacts" on a number of fronts, including air quality, greenhouse gas emissions and public safety.

The regulations, which lawmakers approved in 2013, require oil companies to expand monitoring and reporting of water use and water quality, conduct broad analysis of potential engineering and seismic impacts of their operations, and comprehensively disclose chemicals used during fracking and other operations.

The full implementation of the law comes as the Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources the agency charged with enforcing the rules faces increasing criticism from lawmakers over its failure to adequately oversee oil and gas operations. The landmark legislation greatly expands the volume of information about oil operations that will be publicly available. Implementation of the new law has also exposed impacts of oil production operations on air and water, drawing the attention of the state agency charged with protecting those resources.

It has particularly shed light on the intersection of California's extensive oil industry and the state's dwindling water supplies. Oil production generates large volumes of wastewater that contains oil and other chemicals and has been routinely injected into protected aquifers.

The new rules were released by DOGGR along with its environmental impact report, which may provide ammunition to drilling opponents. The three volume report concluded that fracking could, in a worst case scenario, "generate greenhouse gas emissions that may have a significant impact on the environment." The operations could also increase pollutants "to levels that violate an air quality standard or contribute substantially to an existing or projected air quality violation," the report said. Transporting crude from fracking could also expose the public to potential oil spills and accidents.

    Julie Cart

Mitigation efforts could reduce the hazards in some cases, the report said.

"It is concluded that the public remains severely divided on the subject of whether well stimulation treatments should be entirely prohibited at a statewide level, or if they should remain legal practices," the report fake van cleef bracelets said.

Critics, including lawmakers in Sacramento, question whether the state's scandal plagued oil regulator is up to the task of implementing the wide ranging new rules. The agency has admittedly fallen behind in monitoring oil field wastewater injections into federally protected aquifers. It has failed to obtain required data from oil operators and has missed deadlines imposed by legislators.

"Regulations are only as good as their enforcement," said Andrew Grinberg, California oil and gas manager for the environmental group Clean Water Action. "Unfortunately, knock off van cleef and arpels perlee clover bracelet DOGGR has already shown that they are unable to enforce existing laws."

The agency is working to "strengthen compliance and enforcement," said state oil and gas supervisor Steve Bohlen.

"With these strong regulations, we are confident that well stimulation can continue in California without the kind of environmental problems that have plagued other states with lesser levels of environmental protection," Bohlen said in a written statement.

Also on Wednesday, the California Council on Science and Technology announced that its independent report on fracking risks was made available to state officials but will not be published until July 9. The multi volume report has been kept under close wraps by those working on it and is said to take a hard look at how fracking may threaten the state's water supplies.

"Oil regulators can't protect us from oil industry pollution if they won't wait for experts to explain the dangers," said Hollin Kretzmann of the Center for Biological Diversity. "The state's weak fracking rules focus on notification and do almost nothing to safeguard California's air, water or public health."

Pavley said she was concerned that the state issued its environmental analysis before the science report. But she said the California Resources Agency assured her "that all pertinent findings in the scientific study will be taken into account.".
