Vanguardia looking replica hermes handbags outlet to stay with Dragons after winning ABL title

PETALING JAYA: Head coach Ariel Vanguardia could be parting ways with Westports Malaysia Dragons despite leading them to their first ever Asean Basketball League (ABL) title.

The charismatic Filipino is out of contract at the end of this month and it no secret that he has offers to return to the Philippines.

believe this group of young players, especially the Malaysians, still have fake hermes bag lots of potential for growth. Honestly, I couldn see myself coaching anywhere else.

the decision is up to the team management and I leave it to them to decide, said Vanguardia.

When asked about Vanguardia contract, Dragons general manager Yakub Hussaini said they could only make a decision after reviewing next fashion cheap hermes handbags season programme.

need to speak to the Malaysia Basketball Association (Maba) first because we may enter a partnership with them.

would love to have Ariel back with us for next season ABL (due in October). He also be an asset to the Malaysian imitiaton hermes bag players preparing for next year Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.
Victoria in urgent need of an architectural renaissance

Can one imagine the thrill of being asked at the age of only 24 to build one of the greatest buildings the world will ever see? That was what happened to Bernini when fake hermes bag Pope Urban VIII presented the young man with the opportunity to design and construct the Vatican.

Most of us, after regaining consciousness, would have declined, or like me, hid under the bed. Thankfully, Bernini did not, and we have what we have in Rome, because after taking a large gulp, he started to design.

I often wonder what prevailing building codes Bernini must have overlooked or dismissed out of hand before inventing or at least bringing to flower the Baroque school of architecture. I once attempted to have a design student construct a petite garden shed that had a lyrical theme and would have bothered no one and brought only pleasure to the eye. A surly public servant claimed that said shed broke several hundred rules and would not be built on his watch.

I have begun to notice that our lovely city has now many wounds of an architectural nature scattered about the place. Let us start with that well known outrage, the library on Broughton Street. One is faced with a wall of uninviting brick from one end of the street to the other. Why did the villagers not riot upon completion? Why were the people responsible not dragged from their comfy offices and made to repent?

Another canker is the CIBC building in the very middle of Victoria. A more unattractive edifice is hard to imagine and yet it looms over us daily. Hermes birkin bags fake I do not lament the nightmares of design that also seem to flower in the suburbs, but in our midst, downtown? Where sensitive chaps gather to write sonnets to their true loves? I say not.

There is something called the Nootka Court that must be included here, a visual calamity at the corner of Humboldt and Douglas staring back at us with a loathsome look in its windows. Where is our native culture when we need it? The building is horrible on so many levels and yet very near to that glowing example of stone and beauty, the Fairmont Empress hotel.

That is my point in all of this we have, unlike friend Bernini, past examples of what we should be aspiring to all around us, wonderful edifices that could remind us of our history.

Instead, it appears that architectural schools turn out dullards of design to go along with our withered building codes, which seem to only pour cold water on individualism and scope.

Perhaps many would think I am too hard on our civil servants, who are, after all, only doing what is expected of them in our modern civilization. However I am always taken aback when I hear those same workers, after their wonderful sabbaticals in Italy, France, Spain, etc., describe the vibrancy of colour and design of daring young architects fitting so splendidly with the old buildings extant. But upon replica birkin handbags their return they fling their berets into back rooms and start rubber stamping the same old dreck. Where is the sense?

We need to be struck dumb by art and buildings; we should be awed by our surroundings, not made vomitous. Every culture will be remembered for its design and I fear that will be the case for us. There might just be an asterisk beside us with a note at the bottom of the page saying: "What were they thinking?"

There is time with leaders who are not frightened by election defeat or loss of pension. In Bernini's time it simply took the direction of a pope who had the grandest scheme of his time, but it was also the time of Da Vinci, Michelangelo and the Renaissance. Never have we needed a renaissance more than now, and a committed leader who could galvanize us imitiaton hermes bag and all who visit us. Build on the past for an exciting future.
Roy Whiting's first victim

by HELEN WEATHERS, Daily Mail

Like most teenagers, she often drives her parents to distraction. Just turned 16, she can switch in seconds from being the lovely little girl they remember usually when she gets what she wants into a silent, sulking stranger when she doesn't.

Their battlegrounds are common to most parents. The untidy state of her bedroom; her refusal to study; the non communicative grunts which greet most questions; and her mother's insistence that Anne be home by 10.30pm when she goes out.

They hope it is just a phase, but they are not sure. Indeed, they worry incessantly that her behaviour, far from being normal, is instead betraying some terrible inner turmoil which they are powerless to stop.

Their fears are not without foundation. For their daughter has to live with the knowledge that, aged nine, she was paedophile Roy Whiting's first victim, and eight year old Sarah Payne was his second. Anne survived and Sarah did not.

It is something she has barely spoken to her parents about since the Saturday in March 1995 when Whiting grabbed her off the street in broad daylight and threw her, kicking and screaming, into his red Ford Sierra. Then he drove to some woods where, after threatening her with a knife, he subjected her to a terrifying sexual assault.

Anne has become even more guarded since Whiting's trial last month in which the harrowing details of Sarah Payne's murder on July 1, 2000, emerged. Snatched and bundled into his white van as she walked alone to her grandparents' home in West Sussex, Sarah was sexually abused and then murdered. Her naked body was discovered in a shallow grave 17 days later.

Sentencing him to spend the rest of his life in prison, Mr Justice Curtis branded the 41 year old divorced father of one 'every parent and grandparent's nightmare come true'.

The parents of his first victim know only too well the truth of that statement. Tom and Susan's only comfort if it can be called that is that the police picked up Whiting so quickly because Sarah Payne's abduction bore all the hallmarks of the previous attack on their daughter.

'Our daughter rarely talks about what happened to her, and we don't like to pry for fear of dragging up all the memories,' says 37 year old Susan, an office administrator. 'We told her from the start "We are here for you if you want to talk", but she has rarely wanted to.

'We can't help but worry about the effect all this has had on her. She is very headstrong and rebellious replica van cleef and arpels turquoise alhambra necklace if you tell her something is black, she will tell you it is white.

'She is fiercely independent and acts as if she is invincible. It's almost as if she thinks: "No one can ever hurt me that way again."

Tom, 41, an airport worker adds: 'We don't know if she is simply being a normal teenager, or whether her behaviour is a result of what she went through. One minute she is gorgeous, and the next a fake van cleef long necklace complete monster.

'I'm not convinced we know the full details of what Whiting did to her. She has told us and the police only so much, because, we believe, she didn't want to upset us.

'All she will say is: "You don't know what it was like." I think she needs counselling, but you can't make her do anything she doesn't want to do.'

There is no doubt that the murder of Sarah Payne, and Whiting's conviction 18 months later, have forced the family to relive a nightmare they were only just beginning to put behind them. They also feel intensely the grief of Sarah's parents, Sara and Michael, whose daughter they know was not as lucky as theirs.

Anne, then aged nine, was still in bed when Susan, who also has a son two years older than her daughter, left for work that Saturday in 1995. The family car wouldn't start, so she had to take a taxi to her office instead.

'I phoned home at around 1pm and this man answered the phone. He said "Who are you?" and I replied: "Who are you?" I thought we'd been burgled and that the burglar had picked up the phone. Now, of course, I wish it had been that.

'The man on the end of the phone told me he was a police officer and said: "Something has happened where are you?" I immediately thought my husband had been in some kind of accident, but the officer wouldn't tell me anything. He said he would send a car to pick me up.

'That was the worst feeling in the world, sitting in my office for half an hour not knowing what had happened. My mind ran riot.

'On the journey home, I was told my daughter had been abducted. My first reaction was absolute anger. I kept demanding to know where she was, who had her, what had happened, but they couldn't tell me anything. By the time I got home, I was desperate. I thought I would never see my daughter again.

'They told me the police helicopter was out looking for her and they had set up roadblocks, but I thought: "How many children kidnapped by copy van cleef and arpels long necklace strangers are released?" I thought she had gone for ever.

'I could feel the panic rising and couldn't stop crying. I didn't know what to do. I phoned my husband, who was with some friends, and told him she was missing.

He rushed straight home. He was beside himself with anger and the sheer frustration of not being able to help her.'

That morning, Anne had set off to an indoor adventure playground with three girl friends and her elder brother, telling her father that she would be back at around 5pm.

At around lunchtime, however, she remembered a friend's birthday party she was supposed to be at and the four girls left together, refusing her brother's offer to walk them all home.

Having dropped off one girl, the remaining trio were walking back to the housing estate in Crawley where they lived when a man came rushing towards them and tried to bundle all three into a car. Two of the girls ducked under his arms, but he managed to grab hold of Anne's arms and throw her, twisting and screaming, into the back of the car, then drove off.

Her two friends ran to raise the alarm, but as Tom and Susan sat in the lounge of their three bedroom terrace house, surrounded by police officers, they could only imagine what terrors their daughter was going through and wonder whether they would see her alive again.

Sidney schoolyard fire hall alarms parents

Saanich school district trustees will make recommendations March 4 regarding a proposal to locate Sidney's new emergency headquarters on the property of Sidney Elementary School. But worried parents are weighing in already.

"People are very concerned trustees are getting a lot of emails," said school district chairwoman Victoria Martin, adding that the final decision will not necessarily be made March 4.

But two committees finance and facilities, and educational directions will have looked closely at the initiative, which was unveiled to the board on Feb. 10.

The proposal involves the municipality buying the southern third of the nine acre property, about half the schoolyard. The area is overlooked by multi storey townhouses and condos on James White Boulevard. Ambulance services, the Peninsula Emergency Measures Organization, an RCMP school liaison officer and training facilities.

Sidney considered seven sites for a new fire hall. A drawing in the town's feasibility study shows four bays for fire trucks and three for ambulances. The vehicles would exit onto Seventh Street.

"My first instinct is that it's a very, very bad idea," said Heather Carley, mother of a kindergarten student at the school.

Carley, a member of the district wide parent advisory committee, said Martin has reassured parents that the district has agreed to nothing.

But the municipality would have been wise to specifically invite parents to its Feb. 2 meeting about the proposal rather than allowing them to "panic" at the idea of what might happen, she said.

Parents picking up their children at school this week sounded more con than van cleef and arpels long necklace knock off pro at the idea of emergency headquarters so close to an elementary school.

"I think it would be pretty disruptive for the kids," said mother Lauralee Mitchell, whose son is in Grade 4 at the school. "I understand it needs to be in a central space and there's not lot of land in Sidney, but I don't think this is the best spot."

She's not keen on the idea of emergency vehicles "flying" onto Seventh Street and said she would worry about children on the sidewalk crossing the exit for emergency vehicles.

"Doesn't sound like a good fake van cleef inspired necklace idea to me," added dad James Holliday, who was picking up his Grade 1 child.

He said the children about 300 students in kindergarten through Grade 5 attend the school need the field and the new headquarters would take up a lot of space. The feasibility drawing shows structures with an estimated size of 38,000 square feet.

Mother Jennifer Van Tankeren could see how the setup could be distracting, but noted her Grade 2 son would find it "super exciting."

"We need emergency services," she said.

Pam Dupont, whose children are in Grade 2 and 4, said some parents might find it a comfort to have emergency services so close to their kids.

There are precedents to schools next to emergency services, including South Park Elementary in James Bay, which is far closer to Victoria Fire Station No. 2 on Michigan Street.

But noise, disruption of teaching, the sense of safety and whether emergency services are appropriate on a site filled with young children need to be examined, Martin said.

Despite the time and energy the town has invested in its proposal, Martin said, the board needs to respond to the educational community. All school boards could use the money, but the board needs to consider what might be needed in 10 or 20 years, if the community grows, she said.

Sidney Mayor Steve Price has said that even a mild to medium earthquake in Sidney would destroy the current Third Street fire hall and likely incapacitate the town's first responders and their life saving equipment.

There are also concerns that the fire hall is too small. When it opened in 1989, the town had barely half the 12,000 residents it has today.

Moreover, 37 per cent of Sidney residents are over 65, meaning the town has a "markedly higher" number of at risk residents, noted a report to Sidney council by director of copy van cleef and arpels long necklace development Marlaina Elliott.

Victoria Royals are eager to show it's their time

The Victoria Royals have headed into the second round of the Western Hockey League playoffs the past two hermes black belt knockoff years as prohibitive underdogs: Against an eventual Memorial Cup finalist Kelowna team with Leon Draisaitl and Madison Bowey last year, and a 54 win Portland squad loaded with the likes of Nic Petan, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Mathew Dumba, Brendan Leipsic and Derrick Pouliot in 2014.

The Royals head into the second round this year, beginning tonight against the Kelowna Rockets, as 50 game winners and WHL regular season champions. But few around the league are placing the Royals in the same pantheon as the 2015 Rockets or 2014 Winterhawks, so Victoria hasn't quite gotten that chip off its shoulder yet. And that is probably a good thing. As the most interesting man Hermes belt replica paris in the world says in those beer commercials: "Stay thirsty, my friends."

Some may buy that argument, while others will still put Victoria as the odds on favourites in what is the most wide open WHL playoff race in years. Under coach Dave Lowry, nobody plays a relentless and disciplined team game better than the Royals.

The Kelowna Rockets, however, were 48 20 4 and only two wins behind Victoria. But the trend is to Victoria, with the Royals nearly unbeatable in overtaking the Rockets in the second half of the regular season while Kelowna faded down the stretch. The Rockets, though, were able to hold off a surging Kamloops Blazers team in a seven game opening round playoff victory.

"The talent is more spread around the league this year," noted Jack Walker, another veteran Victoria forward. "It makes for better matchups."

This is where Kelowna's talent is concentrated. Tyson Baillie had 43 goals, Justin Kirkland 31 and Dillon Dube, Rourke Chartier, Tomas Soustal all 20 or more in the regular season. But the playoffs can be a strange beast. While Baillie, Kirkland and Dube were largely held in check in the first round by Kamloops, a physical role player like Rodney Southam stepped up to score a hat trick in a crucial 4 0 victory in Game 5.

Victoria scored a Western Conference leading and WHL third best 281 goals. The Royals' scoring is so deep and evenly distributed that it keeps the opposition guessing by providing no easy forwards to target. Alex Forsberg led the Royals with 91 regular season points, and has five points in the playoffs. imitation hermes mens belt Soy set a Royals team record with 46 goals, and has followed up with five goals and nine points in six playoff games. Walker had 36 goals and 84 points in the regular season and has also put up five goals and nine points hermes belts Knockoff in the playoffs to match linemate Soy. Matthew Phillips led all WHL rookies with 37 goals and has added three more in the playoffs.

The young Kelowna defence is going to have to do a lot of growing up and quickly. How Cal Foote, 17, Lucas Johansen, 18, and Gordie Ballhorn, 18, hold up to Victoria's non stop offensive pressure will be the key to the entire series. Much needed older balance is provided by Devante Stephens, 19, Joe Gatenby, 19, and Riley Stadel, 20.

On the Victoria side, veterans Chaz Reddekopp and Ryan Gagnon will need to continue to provide the leadership as long as captain Joe Hicketts is out of the lineup. The young blue liners Ralph Jarratt and Scott Walford have matured faster than most expected, which has been a huge bonus for Victoria this season, as has the improving play of Russian import Marsel Ibragimov.

The Royals' pair of rookie Griffen Outhouse, who led the WHL in the regular season with a 1.82 goals against average in 27 appearances, and over ager Colemann Vollrath, who was third in the league with a 2.40 GAA in 51 games, tailed off to about a C+ grade in sharing the crease in the six game victory over the Spokane Chiefs in the opening round of the playoffs. Vollrath was 3.67 in the first three games and Outhouse 2.51 in the final three. There was a spotty night each for both, but they did what was required and the Royals advanced.

Michael Herringer of the Rockets was pressed into the starting role when Jackson Whistle was lost for the season to surgery. The Comox Valley product is mercurial. He can steal a game with his size and quick reactions, as evidenced by his two shutouts against Kamloops in the first round and 2 1 victory in Game 7. And yet he sported a 3.18 GAA in the regular season and 2.39 in the first round, so there have been nights when opposing shooters have gotten to him.

Those are almost all on the injury front. Kelowna lost its top forward, Nick Merkley, a first round NHL draft pick of the Arizona Coyotes, and starting goaltender Jackson Whistle to season ending injuries. Victoria captain and Western Conference MVP Joe Hicketts, out since Game 1 of the Spokane series, and useful import forward Vladimir Bobylev, injured late in Game 5 after accumulating seven assists in the Chiefs series, both did not skate in practice Wednesday for the Royals and are unlikely to play tonight.

The other intangible is Kelowna's playoff experience. They graduated a lot of talent from last year's team, but there is still a returning core group that went all the way to the Memorial Cup championship game.

Advantage: Victoria, only because Merkley and Whistle are gone for good, while Hicketts and Bobylev could return at some point

Series Prediction: Victoria in six games

OTHER WESTERN CONFERENCE SEMIFINAL

Seattle Thunderbirds (45 23 4 regular season) vs. Everett Silvertips (38 26 8 regular season): The Thunderbirds have won 17 consecutive games, 13 to end the regular season, and in a 4 0 sweep of the Prince George Cougars in the first round of the playoffs.

It will be Mathew Barzal of the Thunderbirds, an NHL first round draft pick of the New York Islanders, shooting against Carter Hart of Everett, the top rated North American goalie for the 2016 NHL draft. But Seattle looks to have too much for the 'Tips, who got past Portland in the first round.
The ethics of celebrity endorsement Religion EthicsAustralian Broadcasting Corporation

It's a notable milestone for a celebrity to snag a coveted endorsement deal. Not only are they a profitable income stream, they also have a coolness factor that boosts the star's credibility as a major force in pop culture.

Michael Jackson famously pitched Pepsi as the "next generation" in the 1980s, while Beyonce is the current ambassador, her face adorning Pepsi products in what amounts to a sparkling US$50 million deal. Jean Claude van Damme saw his career revived when he did the splits to Enya for Volvo, shooting the brand into the viral video stratosphere, a rare kind of success story where both sides get a boost.

But things get sticky when the celebrity's endorsements collide with activism and the objections of a cyber savvy public. Beyonce, for example, has been taken to task for promoting unhealthy sugar laden soft drinks. Russell Crowe famously attacked celebrities who capitalise on their popularity in order to sell products, resulting in a fairly public spat with George Clooney, who has been more than the face of Nespresso chic.

Cue Scarlett Johansson siren, luxury brand and Oxfam ambassador, and the new face of Israeli owned company Sodastream, which specialises in home made soft drinks. Much excitement surrounded the Superbowl ad for Sodastream, due to air on 2 Febuary, which cost a sweet $4 million and features Johanssen as the company's first global ambassador. Latest reports say Fox has banned the ad, with Sodastream arguing the network is afraid of Coke and Pepsi.

The real controversy, however, began elsewhere. There is uproar in the cyberverse, and it's not about competition or an actress selling sugar to the masses. Johansson's endorsement of the brand rapidly descended into the political when it was revealed that Sodastream has a factory located on an illegal settlement in the West Bank, Maaleh Adumim, a settlement that reportedly forcibly displaced 200 Palestinian families. The factory is one of 25 globally, but its mere existence is enough to taint the seeming innocuousness replica vca alhambra bracelet of home soft drink systems.

The memes came pouring out, featuring a Photshopped Johanssen in scenes of destruction, while she stayed noticeably silent on the issue. Sodastream van cleef knock off clover bracelet hit back, saying it treats it employees fairly 550 of them are Palestinians who, the company says, are awarded the same benefits as Israeli workers. A report from Electronic Intifada suggests otherwise.

But it was really Johansson's response that pro Palestinian activists were waiting for, and she finally delivered one by means of a statement released to The Huffington Post last week. Johansson isn't backing down, responding to the public criticism with the assertion that she's not in this to take sides more specifically, she didn't intend on "being the face of any social or political movement, distinction, separation or stance".

I have no doubt Johansson had no idea that representing a soft drink company would get political. But now that it has, does it really cut it to churn out lines like: "I remain a supporter of economic cooperation and social interaction between a democratic Israel and Palestine"?

Johansson goes on to make it clear that she cares about peace for all, saying that "SodaStream is not only committed to the environment but to building a bridge to peace between Israel and Palestine, supporting neighbours working alongside each other, receiving equal pay, equal benefits and equal rights." Johansson's off handed dismissal of public objection shows loyalty to the brand employing her, even if she skirts around the politics behind it all with neutral statements about bridges to peace.

To what extent, though, does it make her complicit? In essence, you have a factory being run on an illegal settlement being brand managed into a vehicle of economic and social interaction, and the morally conscious public aren't buying it.

Meanwhile, Johansson's agreement with SodaStream has also brought her into conflict with global charity Oxfam, an organisation she has represented since 2007. Oxfam is appalled by Johanssen's association with Sodastream, publicly saying that it's "opposed to all trade from Israeli settlements, which are illegal under international law."

What makes the Johansson SodaStream Oxfam issue interesting is how unalike this episode of "Celebrity Endorsement Failure" is to previous episodes. Usually, when endorsements fall apart, it is commonly the brand disassociating itself, rather than the celebrities from sports stars who skirt scandal and end up losing major endorsements (Stephanie Rice, Tiger Woods and Lance Armstrong to name just a few), to Pepsi pulling Madonna's "Like a Prayer" ad imitation vca alhambra bracelet because burning crosses and sex don't mesh well with the youthful brand.

Yet this was an entirely different kind of awkward stand off. For days Oxfam didn't pull the plug, much to the chagrin of activists, and Johannsen remained unmoved until now. Johanssen has announced that she has decided to bow out of her ambassador duties, saying in a statement that she has "a fundamental difference of opinion" with Oxfam International. Although Oxfam clearly rejects trade from settlements, it hasn't declared a boycott. Nevertheless, the statement reads:

"Scarlett Johansson has respectfully decided to end her ambassador role with Oxfam after eight years. She and Oxfam have a fundamental difference of opinion in regards to the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement. She is very proud of her accomplishments and fundraising efforts during her tenure with Oxfam."

Palestine and Israel make for a frequent zone of contention, which is understandable given Palestine's status as an occupied land. Performers choosing to do concerts in Israel are frequently petitioned to back out by a very noisy internet collective. Gone are the days when you needed to send snail mail to voice your discontent just ask the institutions and film festivals that have been subject to boycotts.

It's an issue that is perhaps at odds with Johansson's previous endorsements. As an ambassador for Moet she oozes sexiness, but as a representative of global charity Oxfam she collected brownie points from the Left.

This all leads to a fairly obvious question no one seems to be asking: do celebrities have a social and ethical responsibility when being a commercial ambassador? More importantly, how much research should a celebrity do before signing the contract and cashing the endorsement cheque?

The Johannson SodaStream Oxfam issue proves that brand risk travels both ways. As consumers, we're happy to suspend disbelief about a celebrity's use of a product they endorse after all, who truly believes Johannson loves sugary drinks so much she makes them for herself at home, or that George Clooney whips out Nespresso pods for visitors relaxing in one of his mansions? But it appears we are no longer willing quietly to acknowledge that celebrities are merely cashing in on a branding opportunity without our collective social conscience coming into play.

Celebrities would do well to be mindful that in a social media drenched world, signing on to the wrong deal may also risk alienating large portions of the public.

The howling mob may no longer brandish pitchforks and flaming torches, but one thing is certain: celebrity association has enough pull that when it comes to a product being ethically questionable in any way, you'll hear the cyber howls from many memes away. A Palestinian Australian Muslim, she graduated with an arts/law degree, but following a brief stint in legal practice became an editor and journalist.

Today's populism, which is once again nationalist and secular, presents conservative Christians with opportunities to gain political advantage over the secular progressivism they see as a threat. That rhymes with the interwar years. Do Christians therefore need to speak, yet again, about human dignity in ways that put limits on populism, too?

Against the Market in UniversitiesFlannel about empowerment and the increase of purchasing liberty conceals a barbarous indifference to the notion that learning changes you, that this takes time, and that the point of the intellectual life is not productivity but comprehension, and the liberty to ask awkward questions. The proposal that the quality of teaching should be measured by levels of graduate salary is simply one of the more egregious versions of this indifference .

There is No Such Thing as Western Civilisation

Kwame Anthony Appiah

Culture like religion and nation and race provides a source of identity for contemporary human beings. And, like all three, it can become a form of confinement, conceptual mistakes underwriting moral ones. Yet all of them can also give contours to our freedom. Social identities connect the small scale where we live our lives alongside our kith and kin with larger movements, causes, and concerns. They can make a wider world intelligible, alive, and urgent. They can expand our horizons to communities larger than the ones we personally inhabit. But our lives must make sense, too, at the largest of all scales.

Video Released Of Black Teen's Fatal Shooting By White Chicago Police Officer

Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Chicago, sometimes weaving in and out of traffic Tuesday night, following the release of a squad car video showing a white police officer shooting a black 17 year old. WBEZ's Yolanda Perdomo tells our newscast unit, some of the protesters chanted "16," which was the number of times Laquan McDonald was shot.

More than a year after prosecutors say Chicago police Officer Jason Van Dyke shot and killed Laquan McDonald, 17, city officials have released the dashcam video of the shooting. Van Dyke has been charged with first degree murder.

The video is graphic and may be upsetting to viewers.

McDonald was shot 16 times in October 2014. Police say he had refused to follow officers' instructions as he walked down a street with a knife and that he had punctured several cars' tires. An attorney for McDonald's family says he had his back to the officers when he was shot.

If convicted, Van Dyke could face a prison sentence of 20 years to life. ET: 'It Is Graphic; It Is Violent'

Noting that a federal investigation is ongoing, Alvarez says that while she had intended to announce the charges against Van Dyke alongside her federal colleagues, the recent court ruling that requires Chicago to release police video of McDonald's death "certainly moved up the timing" of her announcement. But she adds that she had determined her office's charges "weeks ago."

Calling the video everything that media stories about it have suggested, Alvarez said, "It is graphic; it is violent; it is chilling."

Alvarez says she knows that when the video is released, it will "tear at the heart" of many in Chicago including McDonald's family. ET: Details Of The Shooting

When Van Dyke arrived at the scene that night in October, he was there "for less than 30 seconds before he started shooting," Alvarez says at a fashion cheap hermes handbags news conference Tuesday afternoon.

She added that 14 15 seconds passed from the first shot to "clear visual evidence of a final shot" with McDonald lying on the ground for the bulk of that time.

Citing witnesses who said it seemed McDonald was focused on getting away from, rather than confronting, police, Alvarez says that he did not pose a threat of great bodily harm or death.

Our original post continues:

The Chicago Tribune says it's the first time one of the city's officers "has been charged with first degree murder for an on duty fatality in nearly 35 years."

The announcement comes as many in Chicago have been anxiously awaiting the court ordered release of a dashcam video of the shooting, worried that it could spark unrest in the city.

Ahead of the Wednesday deadline for the footage to be released, fake hermes bag Mayor Rahm Emanuel and other community leaders have been calling for calm, while activists are planning protests including one demonstration that would block a major commercial street on Black Friday.

A recap of the shooting comes from member station WBEZ:

"Officer Jason Van Dyke, who is white, shot McDonald 16 times. He arrived at the scene after other officers had been following the African American teen as he walked the streets carrying a knife and refusing to follow orders. An autopsy report showed that the hallucinogenic drug PCP was found in McDonald's system, according to the Associated Press. Van Dyke's attorney says the officer feared for his life."

WBEZ adds that Van Dyke, 37, who was put on administrative duty after the shooting, had not received voluntary crisis intervention training, which focuses on options other than force to resolve conflicts.

In April, Chicago's City Council approved a $5 million settlement with McDonald's family, which had not filed a lawsuit.

Emanuel says he hasn't seen the video but as he called for calm, he also said that from what he has learned about the case, "What happened here is wrong. There is no justification and it's profoundly hideous, in my imitiaton hermes bag view."

The Chicago Sun Times recently filled in some replica hermes handbags outlet of the details about McDonald's life, relaying the story of a young boy who was twice taken out of his mother's care owing to abuse allegations. The newspaper reports that he was a ward of the state when he was killed, and adds that "McDonald was particularly close to his grandmother, Goldie Hunter, and was in her care until she died last year. His daily life seemed to unravel after her death."
