seller drops medical requirement at dispensaries

Two Vancouver pot dispensaries are no longer requiring a doctor note or membership from those seeking to buy marijuana.

The Vancouver Dispensary Society runs storefront operations on East Hastings and Thurlow Streets. Founder and pot activist Dana Larsen said other medical marijuana dispensaries have quietly dropped their requirement for medical notes, but he elected to go public with imitation van cleef and arpels necklace sale the change.

"We've always required a membership and medical documentation since we opened in 2008 we the city third oldest dispensary," Larsen said Thursday at the Hastings outlet. "When we opened things were a lot different in Canada and Vancouver."

In June 2015, Vancouver city council made a bid to regulate illegal marijuana dispensaries, launching a two tiered business licensing system aimed at weeding out for profit dispensaries in favour of non profit compassion clubs. Dispensary owners were given 60 days to apply for knock off van cleef and arpels alhambra necklace a licence under criteria that included criminal record checks and restrictions on where their shops can be located.

As of this month, just over a year into the new regime, two Vancouver pot dispensaries had city issued business licences, and six more were in the final stages of obtaining licences, according to the city website. Fifty three more continued to operate without licences and were "subject to enforcement," while another 34 shops have stopped selling marijuana.

Under the rules, clubs qualify for licences more easily than so called profit shops that don provide additional services, as long as they are registered societies.

Larsen said his Thurlow Street outlet was among those in the final stages of getting a licence. Both outlets continue to operate without city licences.

"Although I strongly believe in medical access, I believe everybody should have access to cannabis," Larsen said. "I've always thought the medical user should be at the front of the fake necklace van cleef arpels line."

He said society members with medical needs will get discounts and special services. Other users will simply require ID and proof of legal age.

"I haven't spoken to the police," Larsen said. "The police haven't come in here in the past nine years, and I don't think they'll come in any time soon."

Vancouver Coun. Kerry Jang, who stickhandled around the city response to a proliferation of pot shops last year, said the city bylaw attempted to regulate land use, making sure the buildings themselves met fire and safety codes, and were located more than 300 metres from schools and community centres.

"This is why we need the federal government to regulate and legalize the substance, Jang said. issues around whether you need a medical marijuana card, that's a federal issue. It comes under Health Canada. We're only regulating land use."

Technically it against the law for a person to buy pot without a federal certificate issued on the advice of a physician or nurse practitioner. But dispensaries have long skirted that law by teaming up with other health professionals, such as naturopaths, who issue certificates allowing users to get marijuana after a brief chat about symptoms as benign as insomnia.

Meanwhile, Jang said the city is issuing $250 tickets to unlicensed pot sellers against whom they have received complaints. The city has also gone to court seeking injunctions to shut down 27 of the worst offenders. epaper, Digital Access, Subscriber Rewards), please input your Print Newspaper subscription phone number and postal code.

    Shane Meadows on his era

The television series This Is England was born out of sadness. Shane Meadows drama which returns tomorrow for its final instalment started life, in 2006, as a Bafta winning film.

It featured a cast of unknown youngsters, with heavyweight support from Stephen Graham as an older skinhead with links to the National Front. It was a beautifully soundtracked celebration of youth tribes and teenage friendship, threatened from without by a gathering storm of violent racism.

Then, only months after filming, Turgoose mother died suddenly of cancer. And the teenager, who was raised on rough estates in Grimsby, turned immediately to Meadows. rang Shane, and he was on his way to Grimsby at four in the morning, says Turgoose. For the funeral, the director hired a minibus to bring the film cast up to support its young star. was born that day I think, says Meadows. in that van with everyone on a very sad day, when you can help someone.

weirdly became like the gang [in the film] after the event. I think that was why, a few months later, I started thinking we should do something else with it.

This Is England '90 (Photo: Channel 4)

Arriving on Channel 4 in 2010, This Is England also began with a bus journey, with the gang back together and on raucous form on their way to the wedding of the mod/skinhead couple at the heart of the film, Woody (Joseph Gilgun) and Lol (Vicky McClure). What followed over the next four episodes was a feat of dramatic intensity, one of the most powerful television dramas ever made.

Amid the riotous comic scenes depicted by Meadows a director as lord of misrule whose gift for capturing earthy excess has a Bruegel like quality Lol was sent spiralling into darkness. In the climactic scene, she murdered her abusive father (Johnny Harris) with a hammer.

A year later, a third chapter, This Is England a one off Christmas imitation van cleef and arpels bracelet alhambra special that grew into a three part series, followed Lol struggle to cope with the aftermath of the murder, for which Stephen Graham Combo had taken the blame. It was bleaker and more meditative, with the gang fracturing and adult reality invading.

In the four years that have passed since, Meadows has made the Stone Roses reunion film, Made of Stone the realisation of a boyhood dream for a film maker whose career includes the Bafta nominated Dead Man Shoes and the brilliant A Room for Romeo Brass. He has developed a unique voice that mixes the very funny with the very dark.

This Is England '90 (Photo: Channel 4)

Now he back with the long promised denouement of This Is England, set against the backdrop of the acid house/Madchester scene. As ever, though, this won be the glamorous official history, but what Shane calls my version of it

The first house scene in the new series is set in the town hall and looks like any regional disco night. just get a DJ up there, and he say have a good night, get p . And then he just film around you, says van cleef clover necklace replica Turgoose.

always planned to do a big rave thing, Meadows says. It ended up in the Daily Mirror the next day, devil worship in Staffordshire. I was there with a f poncho on and a little hat.

Thomas Turgoose, then 13, in the original This Is England

I sitting with Meadows in an Edinburgh cinema. He looks tanned and relaxed. He just got back from a holiday in Majorca with his wife, Joanne, and children, Louie, four, and Artie, who about to turn seven. It midday and he's ignoring the bottle of sparkling water on the table before him in favour of a pint of lager. He broad shouldered and beefy, a heavy handed middleweight boxer maybe, whom long time friend and collaborator Paddy Considine recalls sporting a black eye at their first meeting on a drama course at Burton College in 1990. He almost fits the description of the working class thug he once described himself as, but for the fact that he radiates not toughness but warmth and volubility.

There great humility there, too. When I ask him what he might have become had his short film Small Time not won an award at the Edinburgh festival in 1996, setting him on the road to a film making career, he decides he would probably be concreting one of three or four lads going around in a van. I loved that.

think I always be telling stories, but I be one of those guys in the pub. I not saying I the best storyteller in the world, but I just got a knack for remembering the lunacy or the violence or the funny thing. As a kid it was always tell about that thing I was naturally that person, from my early teen years when you sat around in winter in bus shelters or disabled toilets.

Meadows mother worked in a fish and chip shop; his father was a long distance lorry driver. Meadows recalls standing on a table performing an Elvis pout for his dad, when he was about five. thought he was Elvis, says Meadows, I heard him play guitar.

Turgoose again, in This Is England '86 (Photo: Channel 4)

As a director, Meadows work is often cinematic there an amazing shot of Lol in despair in TIE 88, out of focus but beautiful, that he just holds and holds. But there also a slightly gratuitous use of slo mo and music to heighten emotion. His genius is in casting and performance.

something about each person that just is meant to be doing that part, Meadows says. could have all the same actors and make swap roles and the whole thing would be rubbish.

I put it to him that the instant he chose Joe Gilgun to play Woody, he had already injected the film with more unpredictable energy than 99 per cent of the competition. is one of the funniest people I met in my entire life. The first time I met him at a casting, he told me a story about how he been pulling a bin bag out of his dog arse. His dog had eaten a bin bag, and he said, started tugging Shane and this whole great f bin bag came out. I was like, he Woody.

In person, the lanky Gilgun is even more vivid than his on screen character, though the boundaries between them are blurred. The rough etched tattoo just above his right thumb is real, his knuckles bear the legend SINK or SWIM, and he has an unstoppable, unfiltered verbal flow.

Some of the original cast from This Is England

In some ways, Woody seems a closer fit for Shane, the natural storyteller and leader of the gang, than Turgoose Shaun. I find the easiest person to write because I hear his voice in my head, he just speaks, says Meadows.

The key element of Meadows method, however, is improvisation. When I ask Gilgun about it, he says, all knock off van cleef pendant improvised. All of it, dude

like foundations, the script. When you read it, it really, really good, and to then just go [he mimes tossing it away].

What we know so far about the charged Baltimore cops

Six Baltimore police officers were charged Friday in the death of Freddie Gray, the 25 year old black man who died while in police custody after suffering a severe spinal cord injury. All six officers were taken into custody on Friday and posted bond later that day, according to NBC Baltimore affiliate WBAL.

Goodson, a 45 year old black man, drove the police van that carried Gray to a local booking facility. Gray was placed in the van head first and on his stomach, according to Baltimore State Attorney Marilyn Mosby, who provided a time line Friday of Gray April 12 arrest. Officers did not secure Gray with a seat belt in the van, which is against Baltimore police protocol, Mosby said. fashion cheap hermes handbags Gray suffered a "severe and critical neck injury as a result of being handcuffed, shackled by his feet and unrestrained" inside the police van, Mosby said. During the ride to booking, while Gray lay injured on the floor of the police van, Goodson made a stop to pick up another arrested individual, according to Mosby, who called that decision "grossly negligent."

Goodson faces the most severe charge of second degree depraved heart murder, which carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison.

    Goodson faces the following charges:

The AP also reported that Rice had been placed on administrative suspension at least twice.

According to Mosby timeline, Rice was the first officer to make eye contact with Gray, which prompted Gray to flee. A foot chase ensued before Gray was ultimately arrested.

Officer Porter, a 25 year old black man, arrived at imitiaton hermes bag the police van transporting Gray after it had already been on the road, replica birkin handbags Mosby said. Along with Goodson, Porter checked on Gray, who told them he could not breathe. The officers asked Gray whether he needed medical attention, Mosby said, and Gray said more than once that he was in need of care. While Porter lifted Gray from the floor of the van to a bench, Mosby said Porter and Goodson did not restrain Gray nor call in a medic.
What Sets A Home Based Business Franchise Apart

What Sets A Home Based Business Franchise Apart?

A lot of fancy words get thrown around whenever people talk about franchise businesses, and for even a seasoned businessperson, unfamiliar with exactly what every term means, things can get a little fuzzy. The term home based business could very well be one of those terms. When you start an Entech USA Vending franchise, your home computer, phone, and a vehicle for towing vending machines and energy drink stock around town is all you need.

    No Stock

The average home based business has this going for it too. Sparky, allow franchisees the opportunity to expand the service to include multiple trucks and as many employees as desired. Generally, though, because a home based business is designed to be run entirely from home, they are not structured to require the use of other people. So while many franchises (particularly those with a storefront) need to worry about finding, hiring, paying, and maintaining fashion cheap hermes handbags a certain number of employees in order to properly function, work at home businesses do not.

    Very Little Overhead

What no storefront, no stock, and no employees adds up to is a much less expensive business than most. There is no rent to pay, no paychecks, and no trouble of buying and returning merchandise all the time. A Creation Carpets Flooring of America franchisee, carrying nothing more than client paperwork and chip samples of flooring, has no overhead other than maybe fuel for the car that he drives to a client meeting. Likewise, all a 1 800 DryClean owner has as a regular expense is the upkeep of the company delivery van, and even that kind of expense is minute in comparison to the average franchise.

Freedom To Set Your Own Schedule

Not everyone works best from 9am to 5pm; for whatever reason, some of us do our best work between 6pm and 2am. Work from home franchises allow you the freedom to work whenever Hermes birkin bags fake is best for you, because along with not having to accommodate to a supervisor, you don have to accommodate to the waking hours of a public clientele like a retail franchise does. For instance, if you a Homes Land Magazines franchisee, there are times that you have to work within ordinary business hours so that you can make sales calls to find buyers for your real estate ad space, but any part of daily business that doesn involve contact with clients can be done whenever you see fit.

One Difficulty all the things that separate a home based business from other kinds of franchise businesses are perks, however. One difficulty specific to home business is the challenge of separating work from all other aspects of life. Since a PreQuence imitiaton hermes bag franchisee works in the same place that he lives, eats, plays, sleeps, and enjoys his family, it can often be hard to not mix those different things and wind up getting distracted from full engagement in any of them. Watching TV when you planned on working; working when you planned on playing with your kids; if you don have the self discipline to separate work from home, make sure to factor this into your decision. It takes a great degree of diligence to keep everything fake hermes bag in order when working from home.

In a nutshell, home based business is a completely different ballgame than any other kind of franchise business. For some, those differences may make it a great deal more appealing, but it isn for everyone. Before diving into any business opportunity, make sure that it gives what you looking for and will work well with your natural tendencies.
    Revived From Siberian Permafrost

A team led by and of Aix Marseille University in Marseille, France, made the discovery of the previously unknown virus, which has been dubbed Pithovirus sibericum and can be revived in the lab.

Their findings are detailed in a new article in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Lest Siberian excavation makes you think of frozen woolly mammoths, make no mistake: These giants are still decidedly microscopic. But in the diminutive world of viruses they're larger fake van cleef and arpels alhambra earrings than normal specimens, measuring 1.5 microns in length and 0.5 microns in diameter. The pandoraviruses, the largest viruses previously discovered, also by the fake van cleef arpels earrings team of Claverie and Abergel, measure 1 micron in length and 0.5 in diameter.

"'Giant' viruses are loosely defined as the ones that you can see under a regular microscope," explained Claverie and Abergel when contacted via email.

Giant viruses also dwarf other viruses in terms of genetic complexity. The newly discovered Pithovirus contains 500 genes, and the aforementioned Pandoravirus can contain up to 2,500.

For comparison, the HIV virus contains only about 12 genes, explained James Van Etten, a professor of plant pathology at the University of Nebraska, when reached for comment. "We use amoeba on purpose as a safe bait for capturing viruses. We then immediately verify that they are not able to infect animal/human cells," stressed the researchers.

Giant viruses are not just bigger but are hardier than others as well, said the researchers. This hardiness, along with a favorable environment, likely helped the newly discovered specimen stay intact for the thousands of years that it did. Viruses are often destroyed or rendered inactive by a number of factors, including light and biochemical degradation.

"Among known viruses, the giant viruses tend to be very tough, almost impossible to break open," said Claverie and Abergel. "Special environments such as deep ocean sediments and permafrost are very good preservers of microbes [and viruses] because they are cold, anoxic [lacking oxygen], and in the fake van cleef and arpels clover earrings dark."

The past decade has seen something of a renaissance in the discovery of large, genetically complex viruses, with the discovery of three distinct groups (Mimivirus, Pandoravirus, and now Pithovirus) suggesting that viruses can be much more intricate and varied than previously thought, and that giant viruses may not be especially uncommon.

The newly discovered diversity in genetic makeup and morphology among viruses leads Van Etten to surmise that different types of viruses may have evolved separately.

"The idea that all viruses evolved from one common origin, I suspect is not true," said Van Etten.

    Changing Climate: Growing Threat?

If long buried viruses can be unearthed, what else might be capable of coming to the surface? Climate change as well as industrial activities may shake up the ancient ice enough to bring potential pathogens to the surface.

"Mining and drilling means . digging through these ancient layers for the first time in millions of years. If 'viable' [viral particles] are still there, this is a good recipe for disaster," said Claverie and Abergel.

But Edward Mocarski, a professor of microbiology at Emory University, says the risk of a virus pathogenic to humans being released from the ice is very small.

"The idea would make a great movie but is extremely unlikely unless the virus came from a frozen human being who possibly died from a virus that is no longer in circulation," said Mocarski when contacted via email.

"A very small proportion [of the viruses on Earth] represent viruses that can infect mammals and an even smaller proportion pose any risk to humans."

University of Nebraska's Van Etten agreed that such a situation was unlikely but possible with the right conditions.

"The biggest source of genes on the planet is probably from viruses, and they're just everywhere, but in general they're highly specific for the organisms that they grow in," said Van Etten.

The researchers behind the discovery, Claverie and Abergel, believe that whether or not it's likely, such a scenario remains feasible. They counsel vigilance and continued testing. As their latest research has shown, large DNA viruses may remain infectious for very long stretches of time.

"The fact that we might catch a viral infection from a long extinct Neanderthal individual is a good demonstration that the notion that a virus could be 'eradicated' from the planet is plain wrong and gives us a false sense of security. At least a stock of vaccine should be kept, just in case," said Claverie and Abergel.

Their research will now turn to assessing how real a threat these ancient viruses pose.

"We are now doing more work to analyze the DNA content of these permafrost layers in a search for the genetic signature of viruses resembling human pathogens," said Claverie and Abergel, who stressed that they are not attempting to "revive" any such pathogenic viruses, but rather hoping to determine the potential danger.
