Supercars driver Chaz Mostert feels hes back to the form that had him as a championship contender in 2015. Custom San Jose Sharks Jerseys .The Ford stars 2015 title tilt came to a sudden halt at Bathurst in October when a crash in qualifying left him with a broken leg and wrist.Since returning to the sport at the start of this year, the 24-year-old has struggled to regain the race form he had before the crash.A pole position in his first event at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide allayed fans fears over his quick return from such serious injuries. But while Mostert is consistently qualifying inside the top 10, his average race finish so far is 12th.However, a third in the first race at Junes Darwin event and an impressive showing in practice at Townsville on Friday has Mostert in a bullish mood heading into this weekends Townsville 400.It was up the pointy end in both sessions but we still have a bit of work to do as well, he said. Its just practice but its nice to go to bed tonight knowing that were up in the top five.Mostert isnt sure when hell join the list of 10 different drivers to win races in 2016 but is feeling success is only a matter of time.Ive just had a bit of an up-and-down year so far, he said.In terms of my weekends, its been one bad race, one good race. INDIANAPOLIS -- Theyre only 14 games into the regular season, but that isnt preventing the Golden State Warriors from campaigning for an individual honor on behalf of Draymond Green. Madison Bowey Stanley Cup Jersey .I hope he wins [Defensive Player of the Year], Warriors coach Steve Kerr said after Mondays 120-83 win over the?Indiana Pacers. Were well aware of how great (San Antonio Spurs forward)?Kawhi Leonard is. And its one of those votes that the last couple years could have gone either way, but I would love to see Draymond rewarded for his efforts.Kevin Durant weighed in as well. Why not? Thats my teammate. Hes covering a lot of ground for us guarding one through five, he said. Rebounding, blocking shots, hes doing it all. That stuff is a popularity contest, so my campaign starts now: Draymond Green for Defensive Player of the Year. So hopefully you guys realize what he does on the court, the small things that go into being a great defender.Green told ESPN last week that he desperately wanted to win the award this season after finishing runner-up to Leonard the past two seasons.Thats something that I want to win, and if theres anything Ive ever been selfish about, its that award, Green said. Like, I want that award.Green has certainly made a case early on. He entered Mondays game in the top 10 in steals (2.2) and blocks (1.7). At 6-foot-8, he anchors the defense and does it in dominant fashion. At this rate, it seems certain hell be in the conversation for the award once again.I know hes talked about going after that award, but hes does it night in and night out with his effort, Steph Curry said, so I like his chances for sure. Oshie Stanley Cup Jersey .Y. -- Marcell Dareus and the Buffalo Bills defence made life miserable for Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco. http://www.cheapcapitalsjerseys.us/ . PAUL, Minn. For the 336th time in the series, Jason Holder ran up to the bowling crease. The 335 previous times, he had powered through the crease with hope and expectation, followed through, and gone back to the top of his run-up, or to the umpire to retrieve his floppy hat, a wicketless bowler. In the overs preceding this one, he had come closer than ever. Three times he had appealed loudly, perhaps even confidently, after striking Ajinkya Rahanes front pad. All three times, Aleem Dar had shaken his head. And, on closer examination, he seemed to have made the right decision each time.Apart from the incoming deliveries, Holder had also bowled a few that had gone the other way. Twice in one over, he had nipped the ball past Rahanes outside edge. All these close shaves had occurred in the space of eight straight overs Holder had delivered from the Michael Holding End, named after a man who took a wicket every 50.9 balls he bowled in Test cricket. At that rate, Holding would have taken 6.58 wickets in 335 balls.Whether the 0.58 was no wicket or an extra wicket might have depended on the umpire at his end.Holders 336th ball of the series, in the ninth over of his Monday-morning spell from the Michael Holding End, came back in off the pitch, and kept a shade low. Wriddhiman Saha, going back and across to defend, couldnt bring his bat down quickly enough, or along the right line, to keep the ball from hitting his back pad.Holder appealed. Aleem Dar raised his finger. Replays, with the benefit of imaginary lines drawn along the length of the pitch, suggested only a fraction of the ball had struck the pad in front of off stump. Umpires call, and it was out according to this umpire. Bowling from Dars end, Holding might have had seven wickets rather than six in 335 balls.Nonetheless, the wicket was fair reward for an unflagging spell of probing seam bowling. It was reward for Holders persistence right through Indias innings. On Sunday morning, he had bowled a relentless fifth-stump line to KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara, and had earned their respect - Pujara, who made 46, only scored one run off the 38 balls he faced from Holder - but not their wickets.By the time India declared, Holders figures reflected the respect all of Indias batsmen had shown him: 34.2-12-72-1, and an economy rate of 2.09. He had played a large part in India scoring at less than three an over through their innings, and as a consequence needing to spend more time at the crease than they may have desired in order to build the lead they wanted. In a Test match that has lost 43 overs to rain, and is expected to lose even more time on the fourth and fifth days, West Indies bowling discipline, exemplified by Holder, their captain, could prove the difference between losing and drawing, or at least between losing and having a fighting chance of drawing. Devante Smith-Pelly Stanley Cup Jersey. Before the start of the series, Holder had defined himself - and Carlos Brathwaite - as a workhorse. Here he had played the role as well as he could have. But he had taken only one wicket, and his economy rate was down in large part to a pitch that continued to offer bounce and seam movement even halfway into day three. His bowling at Sabina Park had showcased both his strengths and his limitations. In the first Test in Antigua, on a pitch that offered the fast bowlers bounce but little else, he had looked a lot less impressive. Bowling with control but little incision, he had ended the first day with figures of 0 for 41 in 17 overs. At the start of day two, against two set batsmen in Virat Kohli and R Ashwin, even his good-length balls went for boundaries in a four-over spell that cost him 30 runs.Right from the start of his career, Holder has looked like an international cricketer, whether hes running up to bowl or driving down the ground with that combination of orthodox technique and extreme reach. But he has always looked like a fourth seamer, a batsman with the potential to bat at No. 6, and perhaps someone who could captain the side after gaining a little more experience. Instead, he has usually been West Indies third seamer, or sometimes even a new-ball bowler, batted at No. 8, and captained them.England have done something similar with Moeen Ali, and attempted to convert a middle-order batsman who bowls handy offspin into a frontline spinner who bats at No. 8. It has not always worked, but England play most of their Test cricket on pitches where their spinner does not need to bowl long spells. Their attack also contains four Test-class fast bowlers, one of whom also bats in the top six.West Indies are not blessed with those resources. Holder - and Brathwaite, when he plays - does not have that sort of cushion around him. By squeezing him into this uneasy situation, West Indies have simply reduced the impact one of their more talented players could be making. Holder has worked hard to be everything he is asked to be, but he, and his team, will probably be better off if hes just allowed to be himself. LAHAINA, Hawaii -- North Carolina had a hard time shaking pesky Chaminade early. Wholesale Grizzlies Jerseys . Once the Tar Heels turned into a bully, they were able to run away from the Silverswords.Isaiah Hicks scored 22 points, Kennedy Meeks had 20 points and 10 rebounds, and No. 4 North Carolina overpowered host Chaminade 104-61 Monday night in the Maui Invitational. Were just too big for them, Tar Heels coach Roy Williams said.North Carolina (5-0) needed a little time to gain some separation from the Division II Silverswords, doing so midway through the first half by pounding the ball inside. The Tar Heels outscored Chaminade 46-8 in the paint and had 26 second-chance points on 17 offensive rebounds to earn a spot in the semifinals against Oklahoma State on Tuesday.Tony Bradley added 14 points and North Carolina shot 57 percent from the floor. Meeks and Hicks, both seniors, scored 20 points in the same game for the first time.We knew they were going to compete, said Meeks, who hit all seven of his shots from the floor. I know through watching them through the years and seen them knock off teams in this tournament. We definitely took advantage of the things we should have, getting the ball inside and hitting shots.Chaminade (2-1) shot well early to hang with the Tar Heels, but had little chance once they picked up the defensive pressure and got the ball inside on offense. The Silverswords went 10 of 28 from 3-point range but were outrebounded 52-23.Rohndell Goodwin led Chaminade with 18 points, and Kiran Shastri added 13.It was pretty obvious to everybody that size and strength was the difference in this game, Chaminade coach Eric Bovaird said. They had (17) offensive rebounds and we had 23 total. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure that out.Chaminade has a team filled with upperclassmen and has had a penchant for pulling off upsets. The Silverswords helped start the Maui Invitational with their shocker over top-ranked Virginia in 1982 and have knocked off big-name programs at this tournament through the years, most recently Texas in 2012.North Carolina was not a favorable matchup for them. The Tar Heels are long, athletic and considered national-title contenders even with forwards Luke Maye and Theo Pinson out with injuries. The Silverswords only shot at another upset would be to shoot the lights out. They did early, making 12 of their first 21 field goal attempts to stay within 28-24 midway through the first half. But then North Carolinas size inside began to wear Chaminade down.Behind the 6-foot-10 Meeks and the 6-9 Hicks, the Tar Heels started to stretch the lead. Meeks had 14 points by halftime, Hicks 13 and they combined to hit 11 of 13 shots to help North Carolina build a 50-34 advantage. The Tar Heels opened the second half with an 11-4 run and never looked back.We felt like we could play them with our guards, but what can you do with three 6-11 guys? Goodwin said. Its only so much we can do.BIG PICTUREAfter a slow start, the Tar Heels did what they were supposed to against an overmatched opponent. Theyll need a better start against Oklahoma States pressure defense in the semifinals.Chaminade again showed it can hang with the big boys, at least for stretches.UP NEXTNorth Carolina faces Oklahoma State in the semifinals on Tuesday.Chaminade meets UConn in the second round. TEMPE, Ariz. Jarell Martin Jersey . -- Bruce Arians is a hard man to please. His Arizona Cardinals rolled for 416 yards and accounted for 33 points in a 40-7 rout of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and still he wasnt happy.Because we should have had 50, you know, the coach said in his Monday news conference. We left 100, 120 yards and two touchdowns just on mental errors by David Johnson. No matter that Johnson accounted for 143 yards -- 45 rushing and 98 receiving, 58 on one play. The score doesnt indicate how poorly we played offensively, Arians said. We can get a hell of a lot better.Johnson acknowledged his mistakes. My bonehead plays, he said. They are plays that I know what I was doing, I just didnt do it. Theyre easy reads and easy routes. The dynamic second-year running back joins a long list of prominent Cardinals to be called out publicly by his coach. Its good motivation, Johnson said. Its good that he keeps us grounded. He keeps level-headed and lets us know, especially me, that I have some work to do.Arians was pleased that his team scored two touchdowns late in the first half to blow open a 24-0 lead.Carson Palmers 51-yard touchdown throw to Jaron Brown with 20 seconds left in the half wasnt planned. The Cardinals were trying to get into field-goal range. They gave us a coverage where Jaron had a chance to go over the top of the safety ... Carson saw it immediately and put a perfect ball out there, Arians said.We really had Smoke (John Brown) working the middle of the field and Larry (Fitzgerald) coming in on a dig, to get 20 yards. We just found the right spot. Dont ever play scared, play smart.Arians criticism aside, the Cardinals did rebound decisively from a season-opening home loss to New England. The coach gave game balls to safety Tony Jefferson and cornerback Marcus Cooper. Nobody on offense got one.Jefferson matched his career high with 11 tackles. He had two tackles for loss, a quarterback hit and a fumble recovery.Cooper, acquired in a trade with Kansas City on Sept. 2, intercepted two of Jameis Winstons passes, returning the second one 60 yards for a score.Calais Campbell also earned praise from Arians, something that doesnt happen often, as well as the rest of the defensive line.Really all of them, Arians said. Ed Stinson played well. The entire group, as a group, was one of their better games. I thought we got a really good 20-something snaps out of Xavier (Williams). Josh Mauro had a great game with the tip for the interception.Chandler Jones, who came from New England to bolster Arizonas pass rush, got his second sack in as many games. Arians wasnt impressed.Id like to see him get one in the second or third quarter when it counts, he said, more than when youve got a 30-point lead. Now the Cardinals (1-1) head across the country to Buffalo (0-2) for their first road game.Youve got to respect your opponent every week, Arians said. Buffalos got a ton of talent. Dont get caught up in the coaching stuff (the firing of the Bills offensive coordinator). You just watch the film. Theres enough up there to scare you.Game notes Arians said there were no injuries in Sundays game that will cause anyone to miss any playing time. ... The Cardinals have seven takeaways in two games and have yet to commit a turnover. ... BROOKLYN, Mich. -- Greg Biffle gave Ford a milestone victory -- right down the road from company headquarters. Biffle raced to his second straight Sprint Cup win at Michigan International Speedway, easily holding off Kevin Harvick after points leader Jimmie Johnson smacked the wall in the final laps Sunday. It was the 1,000th victory for Ford Motor Company across NASCARs three national series -- Cup, Nationwide and Truck. "What a great moment this is," said Jamie Allison, director of Ford Racing. "We couldnt be prouder to have this moment come here today at Michigan in front of so many of our Ford friends. What a great race and a great day for Ford." It was Biffles first win since he overtook Johnson to win at MIS in August. Johnsons engine faltered with six laps left in that race. This time, he was about a second behind Biffle with three laps to go -- but a tire give way, and he dropped all the way to 28th. "I dont want to see anybody wreck," Biffle said. "It makes you feel good when you push the guy over the edge. He made a mistake, and thats what makes you feel good. You outsmarted him, or you beat him at his game." Harvick was second, 3 seconds behind Biffle. Martin Truex Jr. was next, followed by Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart. Johnson wasnt the only big name who ran into trouble. Jeff Gordon was out of contention almost immediately when he hit a spinning Bobby Labonte less than 10 laps into the 200-lap, 400-mile race. Gordon finished 39th, one spot behind Kasey Kahne, who led at the halfway point but appeared to blow a tire and went sliding into the wall. Kahnes car caught fire, but he was able to climb out quickly. Dale Earnhardt Jr., who won at MIS last June, finished 37th Sunday. He led for 34 laps, but his engine acted up about two-thirds of the way through the race. There were eight cautions for 38 laps. Biffle cruised to the finish in his No. 16 Ford. He finished second to Johnson the previous weekend at Pocono, but this time there was nobody left to challenge him at the end. It was Fords third Cup victory of the year -- Carl Edwards and David Ragan won at Phoenix and Talladega. Sundday was Ford Motor Companys 110th birthday. Wholesale Grizzlies Jerseys. "There have been a lot of great teams and a lot of great drivers, a lot of great engine builders that have contributed to Fords success," Roush Fenway Racing owner Jack Roush said. "Im just proud and honoured to be part of that." This was the second Cup win of the year for Roush Fenway. Its been an emotional week for the racing community after the death of driver Jason Leffler on Wednesday at a dirt-track race in New Jersey. Biffle was quick to acknowledge Leffler while he celebrated his Fathers Day victory. "We are thinking about little Charlie Leffler that doesnt have a father today," he said. Biffle earned his 19th career victory and boosted his chances to reach the Chase for the Sprint Cup, moving from 10th to eighth in the standings. Biffle finished in the top 10 for the 13th time in 21 races at MIS, which is about 60 miles from Ford headquarters in Dearborn. Edwards finished eighth. Kurt Busch qualified second but went into an early spin and finished 35th. Johnson still has a comfortable lead in standings, although Edwards closed the gap at the top from 51 points to 31. Johnson had a chance at his fourth victory of the year before scraping the wall late. Johnson has still never won a Cup race at MIS. "I thought this would be the year," he said. "Most of the time were leading and something happens, but I thought, OK, maybe coming from behind would be the difference. But something happened." Johnsons late mishap in his No. 48 Chevrolet did not result in a caution, so Biffle maintained his comfortable lead over Harvick. "I wasnt catching the 16 and didnt really feel it necessary to have a tire failure or an issue at that particular point," Harvick said. "So our best bet at that point was the 48 catches the 16 and something happening as those two guys were racing. But we just maintained and managed our gap between us and (Truex) to just hold that track position and not have anything silly happen." Harvick moved up one spot to fourth in the standings. Earnhardt fell from fourth to seventh. Jerseys From China Cheap Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys NFL China Cheap Jerseys 2019 NFL Jerseys China Wholesale Jerseys 2019 Cheap Jerseys Wholesale ' ' '

Vernon Philanders parting words to his new-ball partner Dale Steyn were a promise: that Philander would do everything in his power to try and finish the job Steyn started and return home with a series win. Justin Holiday Jersey . Steyn will play no further part in the Tests after fracturing his right shoulder and Philander has taken it on himself to lead the pack.Losing big players leaves a big gap but theres always an opportunity for someone else to step up, Philander said. In this game KG [Kagiso Rabada] and myself will have to step up. That serves as motivation for us to step up and deliver. Dales done it for a long time and we owe it to him.So far, Philander has followed through. He took four for 56 in an exceptional second-day spell in which he found subtle seam movement and admitted he knew it would be up to him to ensure Australia did not get too far away. Dales been the leader of this attack for a very long time and its sad to see him go down like that. We had a job to do and that was to get the Aussies out as cheaply as possible, and it was a job well done by the rest of the bowlers, Philander said. Its a responsibility that will be well taken by the rest of the team and the squad. We want to win this game for Dale as well.Steyn made one mark on the match though - and it may yet to prove to be the most important - when he had David Warner caught at slip on 97 and sparked the Australian collapse. Although Warner may be secretly pleased he does not have to see Steyn for the rest of the series, he will miss the contest. I am disappointed for Dale. After all the amp and the talk before the series, I know how pumped he would have been to play a big role. It is disappointing for him, Warner said. I hope he can get back on the park and play the competitive cricket that weve seen him play.Warner remains wary of a South African attack that has already shown it can bowl Australia out sans Steyn and despite depleted resources. He mentioned less than 300 as a target the Australians think might give them a chance but cautioned against getting too excited by South Africa being a man down.We have to respect each individual. There are two very good fast bowlers there and weve seen the wickets they can take, Warner said. We cant look too far ahead. In this match, we still have to bowl well and then bat again but we know know that if we get through that first period with the new ball, they will have to revert to spin. Nikola Mirotic Jersey . RIO DE JANEIRO -- Taking the Olympics to Rio de Janeiro was always considered a bit of a risk. http://www.brownsrookiestore.com/Browns-James-Burgess-Jersey/ . Now that South Americas first games are drawing to a close, the question is: Did the gamble pay off?The answer, according to experienced Olympic officials and experts, is a mixed bag.Yes, Brazil managed to pull it off under difficult economic and political conditions, with the sports competitions, venues, athletes, friendly hosts, television images and Rios scenic backdrops all rising to the occasion.Yet, behind the scenes, these were also troubled Olympics that fell short in other areas -- empty seats, ticket fiascos, organizational mishaps, spread-out venues, green water, street crime, traffic chaos and lack of a clear Olympic feel in the parks. The Olympics on TV are never the same as the Olympics on site. Thats been the case more than ever this time, reminiscent of the 1996 Games in Atlanta, where great sporting moments contrasted with lost buses, failures in the technology system and other off-the-field problems. This has been probably a little below the expectations of the experts, but will have televised well for the 99.9 percent of the population of the world that experiences the Olympics, senior Canadian IOC member Dick Pound said.International Olympic Committee vice president John Coates of Australia acknowledged the games have not run as smoothly as desired. Its been difficult, he said. To be fair, some of that was because of the economic and political background on which the games are being held. For Olympic historian David Wallechinsky, attending his 17th games, the shortage of volunteers, lack of Olympic signage and other logistical glitches have outweighed the well-run competitions and welcoming Brazilian people.I think these games will be seen in the continuum of Atlanta, Athens, Rio -- the ones that didnt work out, he said. One just hopes the lessons are learned. But the games must also be judged from a local perspective. Many Brazilians and Rio residents -- known as Cariocas -- will feel pride over how theyve put on the worlds biggest sports event and will cherish their moments on the global stage. And, for the host country, the games are ending on a delirious high- with a gold medal in mens soccer. Brazilian fans wanted more than anything to finally win the top Olympic prize that has eluded them in their national sport.Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes said the Olympics have been a catalyst for building new public transport lines and renovating the port area, insisting that no white elephants will be left behind. Comparing Rio to the richer cities that lost out for the 2016 Games would be misguided, he said.We come from a tropical experience, the Latin ways of Brazil, which sometimes made the IOC members a little bit crazy, Paes said. If you want to be fair to Rio, you cannot compare us to Tokyo, to Chicago, to Madrid. These are cities that have much better infrastructure. They come from developed countries. You have to compare Rio to Rio.When Rio was chosen as host city seven years ago, IOC members were convinced the time had come to take the games to South America. Brazil was a rising economic force at the time. But local organizers quickly fell behind in preparations and were forced into an Athens-like mad dash to catch up.Then, over the last two years, the economy plummeted into its worst recession in 80 years, the country was engulfed by a massive corruption scandal centering on the state-run oil company Petrobras, and the president was suspended and sent for impeachment. Its also a games in the middle of reality, not organized in a bubble, IOC President Thomas Bach said Saturday. They were games in a city where there are social problems and social divisions. ... The IOC has shown that it is possible to organize games also in countries which are not at the top of the GDP rankings. The athletes produced the goods -- Bolt with three more gold medals to take his career tally to nine, Michael Phelps with five more golds for a total of 23, and gymnast Simone Biles with four golds. But the games also were marred by the bad behavior -- and concocted stories -- of Ryan Lochte and his U.S. swimming teammates. For all the drumbeat of bad news in the months ahead of the Olympics, two of the biggest issues caused barely a ripple. The Zika virus, which had led some scientists to call for the games to be postponed or moved, was hardly mentioned. Worries over Rios sewage-filled waters did not hamper the competitions, with only a handful of athletes falling ill.Elsewhere, there were embarrassing setbacks, mostly during the first week: the green water that marred the diving and water polo events; the windows of a media bus shattered in an attack; foreign team officials and government ministers mugged in the street; volunteers who never showed up or just quit. Its just not acceptable with seven years in advance not to signs ready, not to have volunteers who know anything, as friendly as they may be, Wallechinsky said.Arguably the most damaging drawback was the lingering issue of empty seats. Some venues, such as tennis, basketball, swimming and gymnastics, drew good crowds and produced a lively atmosphere. But others suffered from lesser turnouts and lack of buzz. The track and field stadium was a quarter- or half-full for some sessions; the stands were not even completely packed for Usain Bolts gold medal races. The long distances and travel times between the three main venue clusters meant there was no single area where large, colorful crowds could congregate and produce a Carnival atmosphere. For the future, Olympic officials believe greater oversight and concrete benchmarks are needed to make sure organizers are on time and delivering as promised. Pound said the IOC and international federations should carry out a forensic analysis after Rio on what worked, what didnt and why.Going forward, the IOC has to learn from the experience in Rio if it wants to take the games to places other than settled, affluent cosmopolitan cities, IOC vice president Craig Reedie said. We should train the city well in advance. We have to work out how better to prepare them and help them.http://www.brownsrookiestore.com/Browns-Sammie-Coates-Jersey/ . It was not one of the best games that Ive pitched. There were too many hits and its amazing they only had one run.Handed a three-run lead before he threw a pitch, Nova (2-0) has won both starts for the Pirates since they obtained him from New York at the Aug. 1 trade deadline. It gives us confidence and were winning games.Stripling (3-4) started in place of Rich Hill, who remained on the disabled list with a middle finger blister on his pitching hand. After a rough first inning, Stripling retired 17 of 19 hitters but gave up five runs, including solo homers to McCutchen and Mercer. Those were probably the two worst pitches I made all night, Stripling said. They definitely punished me for them.McCutchen also made an outstanding, over-the-shoulder catch near the warning track in left-center in the second inning to take an extra-base hit away from Yasmani Grandal.McCutchen had a fantastic game. LOUIS -- St.SILVERSTONE, England - As Formula One expands its reach into the United States, theres still a missing ingredient that could keep some fans away from the stands — an American driver on the grid. There hasnt been an American in Formula One since 2007 when Scott Speed drove for Toro Rosso. But the pressure is building for an American to make the jump now that the United States successfully hosted the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, last year and is set to hold second grand prix in New Jersey as soon as 2014. "It would be tremendous boost for Formula One to have an American driver," Mario Andretti, the Formula One champion in 1978, told The Associated Press. "It would not only be good for America but also Formula One. No question about it. The U.S. is a very powerful nation from the standpoint of the financial situation. Every company in Formula One now does business in the Unites States." Scores of Americans have given F1 a try but few have succeeded. Andretti was the last American to win a drivers championship title and before him it was Phil Hill in 1961. More common were the likes of Andrettis son Michael, who raced 13 grand prix races for McLaren in 1993 with a third-place finish as his best result. Speed never scored a point in the two years he raced in F1. There was talk in 2010 of creating an American team dubbed USF1 team with strong backing from YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley and featuring Danica Patrick and possibly Speed as drivers. But USF1 struggled to attract sponsors amid the global recession and ran afoul of F1 when it didnt race in 2010. The dearth of drivers — there are only Americans Alexander Rossi and Conor Daly in all the F1 feeders — is blamed on the a mix of cultural and financial factors. Among the biggest challenges is raising the millions needed to fund a team from American corporations that may have doubts about the benefits of investing in a sport that is not a major attraction in the U.S. "Its extremely difficult for an American mostly because there is no American support from companies," said Speed, who now races in NASCAR and Global Rally Cross. "Why would an American company spend x amount of money in Formula One when they can get 10 times that exposure in America racing NASCAR? It makes zero sense financially." F1 drivers and executives said it also can be difficult for an American to make the transition to F1 since they are raised on tracks and a system that grooms them for IndyCar and NASCAR rather than serpentine circuits of Europe. There also isnt the kind of support system that European drivers can count on to provide mentoring and the occasional break as they attempt to rise through the ranks of the sport. "Formula One has flirted with North American for many years but Formula One hasnt been seen as the pinnacle of the sport in the eyes of youngster in North America. North America has evolved in a slightly different approach with things like NASCAR," said McLarens Martin Whitmarsh, who heads the F1 teams association. "North American doesnt have the karting program. Without exceeption, every single one of these (F1) drivers started at 8 or 9 in karting and went into competitive karting. Terry Porter Jersey. Karting became the launch pad for their careers." In the short term, Whitmarsh said prospective American drivers will have to go to Europe early on in their careers. But Andretti said the addition of two American races should help in the long-term — by inspiring more youngsters to take up the sport, providing the facilities needed to develop that talent and convincing American companies to step up their sponsorship. Rossi and Daly have beaten the odds partly because they are not your typical American drivers. Rossi is a reserve driver for Caterham and drives for them in the series GP2 which is a notch below F1. Daly drives in a lesser, GP3 series with ART Grand Prix. Both grew up on F1 — Rossi watching as a 6-year-old with his father — and Daly benefiting from the stories a father, Derek, who raced in F1 from 1978 to 1982. They also raced in Europe at a young age which Whitmarsh and others recommend. Rossi moved to Italy at 16 to pursue his F1 dream while the 21-year-old Daly first raced as a 16-year-old in Europe before moving there in 2011. The duo also have the belief they will make it to F1 — emboldened by the success they have had so far. Daly won a race in Barcelona last year and again this year in Valencia and sits fifth in the GP3 standings. Rossi joined Caterham in 2011 as a test driver and was named a reserve driver this year. He then replaced Chinese reserve driver Ma Qing Hua in GP2 after the opening race in Malaysia and placed third place in Bahrain. "When we were able to come over here and win races and qualify on pole, it justified that we can do it too. That is what has been encouraging," Daly said. "Rossi has been great so far and he has done an awesome job and he has kind of gotten there with Caterham already," he said. "Its not just one American we want in F1. Its as many as we can get. Right now, its just us two that at least have made it into Formula One cars and are kind of getting there." The two also understand the significance of becoming the next American on the grid. They have already witnessed a few flag-waving Americans at European races and the kind of support that comes across Twitter and Facebook when they win races. Doing that in Austin or New Jersey, they said, would be special.
