GWANGJU, South Korea, July 13 (Xinhua) -- The United States beat Germany 84-77 in the second overtime of men's basketball final at Gwangju Universiade here on Monday.
After Mathis Moenninghoff shot the first two points for Germany, Perry Ellis had seven points to lead American's 14-point streak to build the lead.
Team USA began to slow down in the late first quarter and the second. Germany tried to attack in the painted zone and the strategy worked.
Konstantin Klein hit the three-pointer to cut the deficit down to only two points, 40-42. Wayne Selden responded with a alley-oop. Kevin Bright had a crucial three pointer to help Germany surpass by 54-53. Frank Mason scored one point behind the free-throw line to help the Americans tie at 54-54.
Both teams exchanged lead in the early fourth quarter until Germany's Lo Maodo and Niklas Geske hit two to lead by 64-59. They were still 66-64 up before Frank Mason lifted the team to overtime with two free-throws.
In the breathtaking first overtime, it's again Mason who had a layup at the last moment to help America tie with 73-73 to continue.
After Moenninghoff helped the team lead with 77-75 in the second overtime. Americans stormed nine points with a three pointer and six free throws. Germany gained nothing besides two turnovers. Wayne Selden threw the ball to the audience, Team USA became the champion at Gwangju Universiade.
Lo Maodo led Germany with 16 points while Wayne Selden had a game-high 22 points for the United States.
In the bronze medal game earlier today, Russia defeated Brazil 80-72.
URUMQI, May 28 (Xinhua) -- A cultural relics collector Alip Jappar in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region recently donated 11,696 folk antiques to the museum of Hotan prefecture.
Experts said the relics, including accessories, coins, vessels, fabric and documents, mostly dated back to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). They reflects the development of agriculture, craftsmanship and life of different ethnic groups in Xinjiang and have significant historic and artistic values.
Alip Jappar, 41, opened his own jade company in 2008 and has been collecting cultural relics from the region ever since.
Wang Weidong, head of the regional cultural heritage bureau, said the donation reflected the collector's strong sense of social and cultural responsibility and contributed to local public cultural service.
"I donated the antiques in order to carry out corporate social responsibility as an entrepreneur," Alip Jappar said. "At the same time, I also did it to make the best from the items by allowing people to know better about the local culture and strengthen friendship between ethnic groups."

The southern Chinese city of Shenzhen will host the WTA Finals from 2019 for a decade with record prize money of US$14 million for the season-ending event -- a move welcomed by players.
The elite tournament, which sees the top eight female players battle it out for the Billie Jean King trophy, has previously been held in Singapore.
"It gives me great pleasure to announce that the dynamic city of Shenzhen has been chosen to host the WTA Finals, the WTA's crown jewel season finale, for the next decade," WTA chief Steve Simon said on the sidelines of the Australian Open.
"This will easily be the largest and most significant WTA Finals deal in the 45 years since the WTA was founded and promises to take the event to a spectacular new level."
Simon said in 2016 that the body was searching for a permanent base for the event, with interest reportedly received from Singapore, Manchester, Prague, St Petersburg and Shenzhen.
The winning bid was submitted by Gemdale Corporation, one of China's largest property developers, and will include building a state-of-the-art venue in the city center, with seating for 12,000 people.
Prize money will double from the current US$7 million.
"Shenzhen is an exciting, fast-evolving metropolis and staging the WTA Finals there will ensure the WTA's global fan base goes from strength to strength," said WTA President Micky Lawler in explaining the choice.
China already hosts a number of top-level tour tournaments.
'Go where growth is'
The WTA made a decision in 2008 to grow the brand in China and the wider Asia-Pacific, and with the Shenzhen announcement they will now have nine tournaments in the region.
Billie Jean King, founder of the WTA, said it was "absolutely incredible" to witness the growth of the season-ending event.
"Shenzhen will be a fantastic home for the WTA Finals," she added.
