Based on a new Activision Blizzard earnings call from haoxiuyun's blog

Based on a new Activision Blizzard earnings call. This delay comes D2R Items amid ongoing discrimination and sexual harassment lawsuits and investigation at Activision Blizzard. Diablo IV has just found an entirely new game director in Joe Shely, who previously served as a leading designer on Diablo following the departure of game director Luis Barriga's leaving Blizzard.

Diablo: Resurrected will bring the action-RPG from the year 2000 into the modern age when it releases later this month, complete with improved graphics and some minor quality-of-life modifications. The one thing it's missing initially, at least is any new content, but that's something that might occur in the future, according to a fresh developer interview.

As part of a group media interview (via Windows Central), Vicarious Visions studio design director Rob Gallerani and project lead Michael Bukowski discussed the creation of Diablo: Resurrected and also touched about what the future may hold. Gallerani revealed that the team has been focused on getting the core game right first but there are plenty of ideas that could be developed in the future.

"We needed to construct an extremely solid foundation prior to when we discussed the fourth and third floors on this building," Gallerani explained. "If we were to miss the mark on what the core game was whatever else we were doing was pretty insignificant.

[...]We certainly have plenty of ideas, but for this moment, we're waiting on making sure we've got the basic game correct. [...] We'll need to buy D2R Ladder Items check once the game goes live how we handle new words, new items, Rebalancing, and things like that."
