Runelite HD is a mod (made by a single person, 117) that uses Old School RuneScape and gives it an HD makeover. As early as, Jagex were issuing legal threats to OSRS Gold mods such as this, in the hopes of proving copyright violation. However, these seemed to have gone away when Jagex offered their support to Runelite's original Runelite.

And, in the beginning of this week just hours before the new Runelite HD was due for an official release the 117 group was contacted by Jagex in a letter requesting that work cease and the release should be pulled. This time, however, it's not due to copyright issues, but rather because Jagex claims they're creating an own HD upgrade.

While this may sound reasonable initially it's not the case, but there's an issue. Runelite HD doesn't actually seem to violate any of Jagex's modding guidelines, and the company has stated that new rules which clarify the fact that Runelite HD does actually break the rules will be released in the coming week.

Mod creator 117 has stated that they tried to work with Jagex and even offered the option of removing their mod after they had completed the project and released their own effort however "they refused outright," seemingly spelling the end of an endeavor that took "approximately over 2000 hours of work over two years."Few games have enjoyed the long-lasting popularity of RuneScape. Despite the latest release, RuneScape 3, having the fancy graphics of an up-to-date MMO, thousands of players remain loyal to the 2000s build, Old School RuneScape. It is also true that Jagex has kept the servers running and continues to roll out changes and other events despite it being (at most on the surface) much more primitive than the third MMO in the series.

This morning, Jagex continues with its long-term plans for Old School RuneScape. 11 years after its debut it is now the God Wars Dungeon storyline is coming to Buy RS Gold an end with its final boss added with an expansion coming this week.
