The character slot thing is far from my favourite thing they've done, but it is certainly not EA-tier shitty if you look at the context of what they let you perform using the totally free slots they do provide you. The one thing that gets close to EA-tier shitty is Fresh Finds.
Most games would only give you the level 30 Mag meals only or once allow you to get credit for a weekly each account. I have played games where folks were called"economic terrorists" by neighborhood managers for less than that which PSO2 allows you to do infinitely with your free personality slots.
New Genesis was always likely to be a global release due to the value they found in other Western MMOs like Final Fantasy and even games such as Monster Hunter.
The gaming industry was very different eight years ago, which was a huge factor in why they decided to maintain PSO2 JP-only. The biggest factor, however, was the anime industry that is global. Eight decades back you'd anime such as Bleach, Dragon Ball, and Naruto, but not one of the less main stream anime ever took off globally.
Now anime has had this, plus they knew making New Genesis money would be literally printed by a global release. However, how do you do so, and also have each one of the cosmetics/weapons/mags carry over so you don't lose players who invested a metric-fuck-ton of money in your present IP? Easy. You create your IP a release .
Anime is bigger than it was but are the animes. The only 'new' hit is Attack on Titan, but does it hold up as well as Naruto, Bleach, and Dragon Ball in the West? Netflix/Amazon and CrunchyRoll have increased in the previous 8 decades so even the non mega arcade strikes get seen. Regardless, I'm pleased to see PSO2 doing! They needed to make it global and they are buy Phantasy Star Online 2 Meseta using PSO2 to build the franchise .
