Retain Vancouver Aquarium cetaceans program for future generations

I have just been told by my daughter in law and grandchildren that the cetaceans program at the Vancouver Aquarium is ending and I am deeply shocked and disappointed. Born and raised in Vancouver, I first learned a love for all our fellow creatures from visits as a child to the Vancouver Aquarium. This was a major motivator for my passion for the ocean, why I got my diving ticket, and why I spent threeyears sailing the oceans of the world. My grandchildren now share this love to the point that my 13 year old grandson wants to be a marine biologist and has applied as a volunteer at the Aquarium.

Please do not let people make these decisions if they are uninformed about the good that the Vancouver Aquarium does, the kindness used with the rescue animals in their care, and the science that has done nothing but help our ocean neighbours. These people do not understand that without this safe environment, these rescued animals would be sent to aquariums where "entertainment" is the goal, or they could be euthanized. Please do not base your decision on the uninformed masses teach them what the Vancouver Aquarium does rather than bow to ignorance.

Please reconsider for the sake of future generations who should learn to love and respect the sea and all its residents and for the sake of all these creatures that need a safe and humane home.

Remove Aquarium from Park Board jurisdiction

How is it possible that the Vancouver Park Board can make a decision that affects me, a citizen of Surrey, and yet I have no recourse? I am speaking of the recent decision to end cetacean captivity at the Vancouver Aquarium. Later, I relocated to the Lower Mainland andfrequented the Aquarium with my children so they too could learn about the oceans while enjoying, firsthand, the abundant marine life of the oceans. Now, I learn that my grandchildren will not have the same educational opportunities.

The Aquarium is not a Vancouver institution, nor evena regional institution. Instead, the Vancouver Aquarium is atthe very least a provincial, if not a national, institution. To allow a body of small minded people sitting on what can only be described as a trivial political entity to make profound decisions directly affecting all British Columbians is, at best, nonsensical. In the simplest form, this decision by a minute political board like the Vancouver Park Board defies any adherence to the most basic tenets of our democratic process. This will remove them from any decisions about the future of the Aquarium so theycan focus on matters more pertinent to Vancouverites, like mowing the grass, or planting flowers, or dealing with squattersin Vancouver parks.

Clark's insult not worthy of front page news

Re: Premier Clark dismisses Horgan as a leader who lacks a spine, March 17

Couldn't you do any better, for your front page headline on Friday, than to feature a vacuous and mean spirited comment from the Premier about a political opponent? She may want to appeal to voters who respond to personal drama rather than policy, but The Vancouver Sun should not promote it. This is not the way to inform voters about critical issues leading up to a provincial election. Our complaint is not partisan: We'd react similarly if any party's leader stooped to personal insults and attempts to defame. This trend Knockoff hermes online shop is a threat to democracy, undermining as it does citizens' respect for governance and the people who stand for public office. The Vancouver Sun is debasing itself by considering this front page "news".

Bing Thom good Knockoff hermes handbags prices choice for Canada 150 profile

Re: Canada 150: Celebrated architect transformed communities around the world, March 13

Thank you to Stephen Hume and The Vancouver Sun for the profile of Bing Thom, in which are cited his many prestigious national and international awards and medals for architectural excellence. As impressive as this list is, it does not even begin to touch on the equally important contributions he has made to mentoring and encouraging innumerable individuals and groups that he has inspired with his visionary advocacy and pragmatic approach to problem solving. A fitting commemoration to all these accomplishments would be the naming of a special public place, preferably in northeast False Creek, a downtown precinct now being designed, envisioned as connecting adjacent future and existing neighbourhoods such as Chinatown, Strathcona and the Downtown Eastside Knockoff hermes togo leather with False Creek. A prominent public meeting space named in his honour would celebrate the depth of his insights into how the art of city building can be the vehicle that brings together people of all backgrounds and interests, furthering his philosophy of inclusiveness.

'Mrs. business world, March 17

Thanks for Stephen Hume column on Wendy McDonald. Bearing as one of a few women working on the inside sales desk. I worked side by side with men, and sold bearing and power transmission parts and equipment in a male dominated industry.

Mac (as we called her) was very approachable, visited her many branch offices often (along with at least one poodle) and supported other women working in the bearing industry. Bearing also provided equal opportunities for women to take courses and improve their workplace knowledge ensuring all her employees were versed in the bearing and power transmission industry.

She was also a huge supporter of Expo 86. As employees, we had access to Expo 86 family season passes at a discount through payroll deductions.

Oh, and her Christmas parties were anticipated every year.

I value my time working for Mrs. Mac.

Teacher moving on with her life; Sun should have let her be

Re: Teacher who had affair with boy is working in education again, March 16

I was deeply saddened to see a front page article about my dental patient Heather Ingram who I have treated for many years in my office. I am fully aware of her past history as a teacher on the Sunshine Coast and understand her past mistakes, which she has had to live through in this small community. I know Heather to be a dedicated and loving mother of her two children. She has a passion for education and I can see why she has re entered that field. She has the ability to make a difference and other people in that field recognize the contribution she can make. She has been open and honest about her past mistakes. I am shocked that your paper would present a front page article based on a complaint made by someone who would not identify themselves. There are Knockoff hermes garden bag names for individuals like that. I must admit I am confused by your front page article about Heather unless you are trying to appeal to some kind of prurient interest for your readership. Heather is trying to move on and be a good mum and find a source of income in the education field so she can support her family. That is a good news story, in contrast to the negative one you put on the front page.
