Power forwards at a glance

Ilyasova was acquired in a trade with Milwaukee to fill the starting spot vacated when Greg Monroe signed with the Bucks. Tolliver, replica bracelet cartier love, acquired in another trade last December, was a high value backup who gave the Pistons a much needed stretch four option. The Pistons have retooled at power forward, by design, more than any other position. Stan Van Gundy has rebuilt the spot in his preferred image, with shooters everywhere, and potential for help from small forwards playing up a position in small lineups. Griffin is on a non guaranteed contract. The Pistons may be forced to go with two power forwards anyway, as compensation for carrying a fourth point guard while Brandon Jennings recovers from his Achilles injury.

Shooting. The Pistons' top power forwards in training camp shot 3 pointers last season at an exceptional rate, Ilyasova in Milwaukee and Tolliver in Detroit. At times, replica cartier love braclet, Tolliver was the Pistons' best long range threat.

Ilyasova is a crafty offensive player inside the arc, too, with a very good mid range game, something the Pistons missed last season with Monroe and Tolliver at power forward, neither of whom attempts many mid range shots. Ilyasova shot 47.9 percent on 2 point attempts outside the paint last season, replica cartier love bracelet bangle, and is particularly adept at mid range baseline shots.

Experience. Ilyasova played his first NBA season in 2006 07 before returning to Europe for two seasons, and has started 257 games, fourth most on the Pistons roster (behind Jennings, Danny Granger and Steve Blake). Tolliver, 30, is the fifth oldest Piston (behind Blake, Granger, Joel Anthony and Cartier Martin). They offer veteran leadership via productivity and example.

Ilyasova has been an above average offensive rebounder for a stretch four, with a career average of 2.8 offensive rebounds per 36 minutes.

The Pistons don't have a bouncer at the position, an enforcer in case they run up against a particularly big front line. Teams figure to go big regularly at power forward when they see Ilyasova and Tolliver standing in the way.

Ilyasova is a stretch four but isn't particularly fleet of foot and not especially good defensively against players of his own ilk. He is a rugged defensive player who will compete in the post and challenge shots, but stretch four matchups can trouble him as much as he troubles opponents when the Pistons have the ball.

Tolliver can move on the defensive perimeter but is undersized and even more vulnerable than Ilyasova to being posted up by opposing power forwards who like playing with their backs to the basket.

Tolliver works hard just to be an adequate rebounder. He averages 3.6 per game for his career, 6.5 per 36 minutes.

All the Pistons' weaknesses at the position go to the same thing, that Ilyasova and Tolliver are undersized. But the Pistons are committed to playing a four out, one in offense, which requires perimeter shooters everywhere. That generally requires some sacrifice in other phases.

Tilting low. The Pistons might move later to add a power forward once their point guard situation clarifies, and of course they would make a move for a significant upgrade. Plus, Tolliver is on an expiring contract. But having two veterans buys time and stability as the Pistons' young core develops. The Pistons have an option on Ilyasova next year for $8.4 million, which will be quite manageable when the salary cap balloons to more than $90 million, so they probably won't look to move him. Tolliver's contract is only for $3 million, money that could just as easily be used in free agency next summer as in trade this season. With the Pistons already short here, power forward may be the least likely position for a trade before the February deadline, unless it is to add one.

Any chance Tolliver starts?: The Pistons were happy to pick up his full contract this year, and were thrilled with the production he gave them off the bench in exchange for Tony Mitchell, a player for whom they had no future plans when they made the trade last December, just before the best stretch of the regular season. Tolliver was instrumental in the seven game win streak in December and January, replica cartier love bangle sale, before injury upheaval finally dusted off the 2014 15 Pistons for good. But Tolliver's size mandates that he come off the bench in specialized situations. Ilyasova, better in the post on both ends and more offensively diverse, will start.

Could Griffin make the team?: It's a longshot because he would be yet another undersized stretch four, and the Pistons might only have room for two power forwards. But Griffin's 2.4 blocked shots per game in the D League last year distinguish him from Ilyasova and Tolliver. The Pistons don't have much rim protection at the position and Van Gundy doesn't like the idea of being short staffed here. Any hint of accelerated recovery by Brandon Jennings would help his chances. Not likely, but don't dismiss the possibility.

How will the Pistons compensate if they only keep two?: That could be one of the most interesting evolutions of training camp and the early season. The Pistons will rely heavily on positional versatility this season. That could include small forwards Marcus Morris and Stanley Johnson playing up a position at times. It also could mean some two center alignment if opponents try to bludgeon the Pistons with a big power forward, with either Aron Baynes or Joel Anthony playing the hybrid role.
